FlashFire w LG Leon OTA Update? - LG Leon Questions & Answers

I rooted my T-Mobile LG Leon 5.1.1 using directions in this forum for LG Stylo. Painless. And, of course, almost immediately thereafter, a new OTA roles out. Can't apply it directly, and I can't get FlashFire to apply the OTA update, either. It tries, but fails. No response as yet in the FlashFire thread. Anyone using FlashFire to do this with their LG Leon? Thanks

It could be that since you rooted your phone, it can't apply the update. T-mobile and Metro updates always try to eliminate root...

Yeah...that's the whole point of trying FlashFire. It finagles installation of the OTA update on ROOTED phones w/o either losing root or doing anything to prevent subsequent OTA downloads. I'm looking for anyone who HAS tried that. It's not been tested on LG phones, and I'm the only person I know who's tried it on an LG Leon. W/O success so far.

Stagefright updates.

Just read that LG is planning on monthly updates for security reasons....
http://phandroid.com/2015/08/06/lg-...ey-too-will-release-monthly-security-updates/
Wish I didn't unlock? Or are we going to have those patches here available?
They better should enable bootloader unlocking for everyone.
Then each LG user can flash his own ROM and solve security issues very quickly with the community.
Nice announcement, but the stagefrighter hole is gaping and gaping...

you have unlocked the bootloader, so you have a custom recovery and could of course install any rom .
Sure at the moment there are not a lot roms available, but the official ones are however posted...
beside that, i don't think that unlocking the bootloader (and rooting the phone) will disable the OTA feature...

Not? On HTC OTA updates were not possible...
Yes those custom roms.... Sigh... I think we will get them if a can choose another phone[emoji3]
Or... Use an app with built in protection for that issue?

As I read OTA won't work on a unlocked phone.
But you can get the KDZ and flash this - you will need to root again though...

You will still be able to receive the updates, unlocking the bootloader does not stop you receiving OTA updates.

the bootloader itself does not change anything to the OTA process
but changing the recovery may block the OTA from working ... the phone may download the update but the custom recovery may not understand it :silly:
but most of the time, people find a way to create a flashable zip to make an update for custom recovery

I didn't try it myself, but people in the low effort root thread wrote it didn't work.
They got an error like "update not possible - suspicious root" or something.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62250050
I will try today and see if it works.
I could download the OTA Update, if it works I will try this evening.

Yeah they couldn't OTA as they had rooted, not because they had unlocked their bootloader.
OTA are still made available to people with unlocked bootloaders, just not to people who have rooted. At the end of the day you can just find the KDZ and flash it to update or make an update zip to do it from custom recovery.

That might be right, but as they said a simple unroot wouldn't work.
And BTW what is the point in unlocking the bootloader when you don't want to root?
I mean custom rom maybe but they are usually rooted as well for obvious reasons etc.

Unrooting via flashing a clean image worked fine for me, got OTA and then flashed new root.

As I said one could always get the most recent KDZ and flash this and reroot. A working OTA would make this just a little more convenient...that's all.

Just unroot, uninstall SuperSu and fire up LG Bridge. Install update. Flash root with twrp. Finish. Did that yesterday.

does the new update fix stagefright?
On t-mobile it did.

Alright so I have a problem with the touch functionality of my phone. I have an LG G4 811 T-mobile variant. The new update is supposed to resolve that but I'm not sure how to update on a rooted device with twrp installed (update stagefrieght). I'm looking for a zip file and i have not managed to find it at all. Could someone help? Also if this is misplaced please devs move it or point me in the right direction to which my question can be answered.

and this for sure worked with you?
Yes, it worked perfectly fine for my LG G4 H815 unlocked! Now on V10d-EUR-XX. Stagefright is fixed. ****ing sim issue (com.android.phone crashes, does NOT restart itself) remains. Support is worthless. Found a workaround myself.
LG lied about that updates. They never repaired these bugs and now it has About 50 stagefright etc vurnerabilities.
What updates you say? I'm still on V20D since January LoL LG is a joke.

6.0 OTA for Telus H812 now available

V20e being pushed by Telus/Koodo which is OS update to 6.0. Size is 927mb.
Edit based on recommendation: you will lose root access with updating to marshmallow
Edit 2: LG description of updates http://dyk.lgmobile.com/dyk/osupgrade/mosu.dev
Missing some important information here. Might want to mention the loss of root access and the need for LG Bridge to update, since it is not available via OTA right now to my knowledge. That could change within the day or so, however.
Downloading now through OTA, no need for LG Bridge.
Edited the OP to reflect the lost of root access.

Just checked on two G4's I have kicken around and no OTA yet so if some want MM right now, they will need LG Bridge.

Yes, updates through OTA are usually rolled out by s/n so the servers are not overloaded.
I manually checked on mine and it was there.

H815 Sea variant - finally Mm ota

My sea variant finally got an ota update to MM (20C) this evening.
Tempting... Except for the part about losing root
How did you root it? I am on build v20b, and i haven't gotten the update yet either.

Actually - I'm still on LP with 10f. I checked LG Bridge several times and have never seen an update, and this is the first time I've seen it on OTA. Just thought I'd mention the fact that the OTA update is out there now for those that haven't noticed yet.

You can't root MM on the G4 unless you have an unlocked bootloader.
I didn't get 20c Ota but I got it when I used lg bridge
I don't know what is the problem with LGBridge, but the speed is low as hell. I have a 20 mbps internet speed connection and it has been downloading for more than 2 hours.
Always the same with every update.

LG G2 Verizon OTA. Is it real?

Update: Yeah never mind, it's just a minor software change from VS98039A to VS9803AA
I'm getting forced to update via OTA. Currently running 5.0.2. Scouring the net, I don't see any mention of a new OTA.
Anyone else getting an update?
Likely just a security update. How big is the OTA?
Backup and update

Well if your device is rotted then you are gonna stuck in bootloop .

flash fire and ota.

Is it possible to use flash fire to update our devices to the new OTA? If so, I might actually consider rooting.
Once rooted you never want to take an ota

Flash fire updates with OTA while keeping root. I just don't know if flash fire works with the v20
I am also very curious about this!
T-Mobile just released an OTA update, and I heard about FlashFire. But opening it leads to "UNTESTED ON LG DEVICES!" so I'm worried. Can anyone confirm that FlashFile can handle this?

I tried it. It will not update. I just went back to stock. Don't need root.
