The past few weeks I've been noticing that my DHD often vibrates at random times, when it should not do this at all.
It just vibrates (in stby mode), nothing else but I always think I'm getting a call or a text, which is pretty annoying.
Sometimes it vibrates just once, but also sometimes it vibrates 3 times, very fast and hard. Last night it even woke me up...
Anyone having the same issue?

Had this today when I bought it out of standby. Thought I had a text or email or something but there was nothing. Never noticed it happen when in standby though.
This happens regularly on mine too! its frustrating! you think you have a call or a message but you dont! :s
Its probably caused by your signal going from hspa (3.5g) to 3g to gprs

Isn't this called Blackberry syndrome? Imagining your phone vibrating, just so you can check it!
Seriously though, I dont have this on my DHD. It was present on my Hero though. I think its your phone getting lonely because your not using it.
If you press the volume rocker right in the middle it will vibrate 1 time and sometimes it will do 2 quick vibrates following the first one. This is probably not related to your case but it fits under the random vibration for other that might not know about it.
I noted you get a vibration when you signal goes out, and when it comes back again.
it does happen on mine too...
but i think i know the cause... its usually after using the volume buttons when it does it
but after installing CM, it doesnt do it anymore... i think its something to do with stock ROMS (mainly sense)
+1 more for that, i thought i was going mad when i first noticed it, but after reading this im feeling a bit more sane,
stock rom btw
Mine does it too. I'm using Custom Modaco Rom. When I go to unlock the phone it vibrated but not all the time. Never in my pocket though. I thought it was 3g watchdog playing up but other people getting it too so not that. It did it just now reading these posts hope it doesn't get worse.

Mine does it too. Got used to it now though.
Mine does this, but I know when it does it and why.
Usually it's either when unlocking the phone, or pressing the power button to lock it.
The reason why? It's because I have fat hands and accidentally press the volume down button when using the phone, causing it to go into vibration mode (which makes the phone vibrate once to let you know).
It's confusing, but entirely my own fault.
That's kinda diffirent from what I'm having. Mine does this without going into vibration mode or anything elsr for that matter. It just vibrates, even when locked and when the screen's off...
Just noticed that it does indeed have something to do with the volume buttons. Just lock your phone, press down both of the volume buttons, unlock it and then you will feel the 3 vibrations
I've noticed mine vibrates when launcher pro crashes, happens while i'm listening to music and try changing the volume sometimes, every time it happens the next time i unlock the phone launcher pro has to restart.
Although I have noticed it some times vibrates when I try to lock or unlock the phone and accidentally hit the volume buttons, not sure what happens there though.
EDIT: Just been trying to lock and hold one of the volume buttons, I've noticed it locks up for a second or two, so it's most likely something crashing I think.
Really sorry to bump a thead from a few weeks ago - but has anybody had any luck with resolving this?
This is the only thread I could find on the matter, and it's becoming a big annoyance for me. It's NOT when I go into vibration mode or anything, it can be anytime - even when the screen is off.

I just tried this and you're right - the three vibrations. Perhaps it's by design but I can't see why.
Anyway it's nice to know how to do it on purpose; mind you I used to get it all the time with my old cheap case, with my new case it's never done it "by itself". It seemed a bit odd but I assumed the case was "pressing" both volume buttons when on standby from time to time (makes sense).
I've noticed when i'm putting the phone in my pocket (or out), i tend to grab it on the top with the volume buttons. And yes, it does vibrate when i accidentally press them.
Try it yourself.
Regards, clumsy long fingered dude.
Mine used to do this as well. It would be sitting on the desk not touching anything, screen off and it's just idling doing nothing on stock sense rom, then it would just vibrate randomly a few times. It was a bit spooky and it kept doing it randomly :/
It has since stopped doing that, no real reason I can see why, I have flashed LeeDroid but it stopped randomly vibrating before that.
I'm on AR HD and it's still doing it.
I'm not too bothered, but a fix would be nice.
If I keep randomly pressing buttons on the phone, it will make random vibrations. Sometimes one, two or three. I don't have to press the power button, the phone screen can be turned off, and the phone doesn't go into silent/vibration mode either.
I just played about with the volume buttons now and I got a bit of lag on my phone, lasted for about 15 seconds then went away...
Hi guys
Had a search and nobody else seems to be having this problem, but seems so basic that I'm sure I must be missing something obvious!
When I'm in a call (either incoming or outgoing) I can't get the screen to turn on properly in order to hang up or use other programs (check calendar etc). This is particularly annoying on outgoing calls as it makes hanging up very difficult!
To be more detailed, a single tap on the power button has no effect on the screen - it stays off. If I repeatedly click the power button, sometimes the screen will flash on for a miniscule moment - this is my hang up method at the moment, repeatedly press the power button and tap the screen near where the hang up icon will be, and eventually I'll catch it while the screen's on. Once I'm off a call, things act as normal.
I have Pattern Lock set up, and am prompted to unlock the phone once I'm off a call, this is what I'd expect from previous Android phones but might be causing problems here?
I found this previous thread where people have had very similar symptoms because their screen protector is over the proximity sensor, but I don't have a screen protector. Might I have a dodgy proximity sensor? Is there any way of testing it?
Cheers for the help!

I have the same problem. It doesn't happen all the time, naturally, but it's been frequent enough to be irritating. If anyone figures this out, I'd love to hear a solution.
Frustratingly this does seem to happen to me every time - although it might only be once the timeout has activated the pattern lock. Or I could be barking up the wrong tree entirely!
Think I might have to do some testing tonight . . .
After some fiddling it does seem that it's a problem with the proximity sensor - Elixir 2's settings show the proximity sensor always showing "near"
If someone could run Elixir 2 on their N4 and confirm that they do get changing settings, it would be a great help!
Hi. I'm having an issue with my Verizon S5 where the screen turns on randomly, sometimes a few times a minute, for no apparent reason. Researching the issue, I found a lot of people said the reason they found was that the charge port was bent slightly and after bending it back it fixed the issue. They noticed the screen would behave when it was plugged in because all the connections were forced into their proper places by the charger. However, mine turns on and off regardless of whether or not it is plugged in. I downloaded Wakelock Detector to try to see if there were any apps forcing my screen to wake up but it only listed a couple apps and processes and, combined, they didn't come anywhere near the number of times my screen was woken up. Interestingly, the same day I noticed this problem, my home button also stopped working. It will not turn on the screen when off and it will not bring me to the home screen when the screen is on. I thought maybe it was occasionally functioning, causing my screen to turn on. However, I have never experienced the opposite issue; I have never been using my phone with the screen on and had it suddenly bring me to the home screen. Also, oddly my screen does not have this issue when I am playing music either through the speaker or via bluetooth. If I have music playing, the screen never turns on randomly. If I pause my music, the issue returns and my screen turns on randomly unless I resume my music.
The fact that it doesn't do it while playing music (either over bluetooth or through the speaker) means it must be a software issue rather than a hardware issue. The fact that my home button stopped working at the same time seems to make it seem like a hardware issue but maybe my home button not functioning and my screen turning on and off randomly are both part of the same software issue? I have attached a screenshot of my current version of Android and other details.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Generally, I'd recommend a factory reset just to make sure whether it is or not a software issue.
If the issue is not solved, return the phone.

I was able to fix the problem so I thought I might as well share. I replaced the circuit board that goes under the home button (cost about 10 bucks lol). This is not the home button and cable itself. If you disassemble the S5 to the point where you can see the motherboard, the circuit board at the bottom with the charge port, capacitive buttons, and home button contact is the one I replaced. Hope this helps others with similar issues get working in the right direction. Be very careful disassembling your S5 if you decide to try this route.
I've had this problem since since the beginning; both on OxygenOS 2.1.1, and 2.1.2 – sometimes, when I click the power button to turn the screen off, and put the phone on a desk, or into my pocket, after a few seconds the phone wakes up by itself suddenly, and most often shows the list of recent apps.
It's only a minor annoyance when it happens after putting the phone on a desk, but it can be a bit more serious when this happens in a pocket. For example, a couple of days ago, I was riding a bike, when suddenly, the phone started skipping through music, and doing who knows what else. (I know it tapped around a bunch in a number of different apps that one time.) Certainly a lot of potential for butt-dials.
At first I thought it was an issue with the DT2W implementation being overly sensitive, so I disabled it, but the problem persisted. Anyone else experiencing this, and perhaps any solutions?
Hi, I just got my Galaxy s8 about 3 weeks ago. I've had very little in the way of problems with it. Well, except one thing... Everytime I make a call on it the screen will wake up at random. It doesn't matter if it's a call from the installed phone app or hangouts. I thought this might have something to do with the apps edge so I disabled that. Didn't fix it. I thought it might be the home button so I put it on the lowest sensitivity. Didn't fix it. I frequently call while laying in bed (who wants to hold a phone up all the time?) so the phone is between my head and a pillow. When the screen wakes up it clicks and than shuts off after five seconds because I turned on the keep off when in pocket or whatever it's called in settings. Before I turned that on the screen would stay on and buttons would get pressed usually ending up with me ending a call. I still think it's the home button but I'm not sure how to fix it. It anyone has any ideas or has the same issue please let me know.

Its the proximity sensor.

Proximity sensor is working though.. I have no way to test it properly but if I place my hand near it the screen goes black and when I move it it lights up again. It also doesn't make the click
Had this bug on every device
So it's just a bug? No fix currently? I'm just wondering because I haven't seen anyone talking about this specific issue before ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm also suffering from this issue
