They're doing a super job. In the little time I've had this, I've really noticed the little things such as their Xmas boot animation. I'm aware that some don't like it, but I think most will like the little touch of 'class'. Personally, I'd like to see them really surprise me with a Superbowl or BCS bowl animation but I recognize that will only appeal to a few.

Nice, although note:
This Moto G software update is for all Global GSM and US GSM models purchased online in the United States

So I guess that still means January for the non-US models. Not sure why Motorola has shifted attention to the US so much in recent weeks after the initial launch, but I suppose we'll have to see how this all pans out.

It's almost like Motorola is a US company or something!
I wouldn't worry too much unless you got one of the phones tied to a carrier. It'll come in time.
Yes and I just got my phone today from FedEx. Can't wait to receive the update!

Heh I'm not worried, everything always comes in time ... Motorola obviously didn't launch the phone in the US and I'm just interested in the turnaround since then from the planned US launch in January. It's been a bit irritating to see all the 16GB stock suddenly appear in the US when it's been hard to get any in the UK, not to mention accessories ... anyway, off-topic.

Can't we just flash the phone with stock US then do the update ???

Hopefully. I've just flashed Blur_Version.14.14.16.falcon_umts.Retail.en.US over a UK moto G
It gave some warnings during the flash process but worked ok. Not sure though which will upgrade to KitKat first this or Blur_Version.14.14.16.falcon_umts.AWSRetail.en.US
My brother's phone just got the update. I'm searching for a way to retrieve the update, but if anyone knows how to get at it without root or anything, let me know and I'll upload it.

...I haven't installed the update yet because once I do, it won't be retrievable. I'm looking for a way to extract it from the phone, but the phone has no root, ergo, I can't reach the /cache folder. I can't find any conclusive answers on how to retrieve it though without root, so I think I'll just install it for him.
Sorry folks, but without root, I don't think I can do it.

Hi to all. I just wanna share my experiences with my Moto X here in Germany and I want to answer a few questions I had before to help persons like me which wants a moto x outside of the USA.
I've got my X (XT1053 developer edition GSM) via eBay straight from the US. I have to pay import taxes around 120€.
The first thing I've noticed was that the X only comes with 4 system languages (even on KitKat), no one of them were German. So I've tried around a bit to get German language but I doesn't succeeded.
Them I've unlocked the bootloader, flashed TWRP and rooted my phone with that.
The next step was that I've flashed eclipse ROM (which originally based on the VZW version of KitKat). That gives me all base android system languages. Even touchless control works now on German.
That I've flashed a VZW ROM doesn't break anything, I'm able to use the phone with my GSM SIM (Vodafone, nano SIM) without problems (except that LTE isn't supported because of the frequencies, but that is no problem for me since I doesn't have a LTE contact).
So far, I have a fully working Moto X here in Germany and I have to say that this is the best phone over ever had (I came from a RAZR i).
The last thing I have to say is, sorry for my English if it is not so good, but I hope it's understandable.

Does google now just google what you are saying or can it recognize things to do?
Like, remember me to pick up brian today, who is Tom Cruise (and google now speaks, not only googles it), Navigate to achtungstrasse 32 etc?
I live in Sweden and I don't care about having the system language in english, hell, every phone I'v had the last 10 years was set that way.
The problem is saying swedish street names, swedish names, swedish stores etc.
I tried to set the language to swedish in the google now options menu and sure, it recognize swedish but it only googles it. None of the commands are working so I went back to english.

Many, but not all commands work in German. Most of the important things like navigate, reminders, alarms and many questions work. What doesn't work are conversions (units and currency), translations, "what's this song?" and a few knowledge questions among other things.
All this has nothing to do with the device though, it's solely a matter of Google Now.

From which US reseller did you buy please? Did you also try/research to buy the Moto X Dev directly from Motorola US?
Why is everybody writing that the Moto X is the best phone? I am just curious, because I like it too and can't wait to see it in reality this Saturday in Germany. But performance / Benchmarks show that it is slower than the S4 Mini which I use at the the Moment, and nothing compared to the LG G2?!

Yeah benchmarks, getting this phone makes you realize that those don't compare to real world usage. Which is why the Moto X is blowing any and everyone away.
Moto X is Android smartphone done right. Not saying it beats every other flagship but it does more than what was suppose to be expected while holding it's ground.
It truly is a phone you would want to have and what to use. Also the customization option is great.

Did anybody try to install this Retail firmware? Just got my Rogers 1058 Moto X & would like to use it like a german Moto X. I have to search if there is a thread about this firmware thing ... Things have changed since my ADP 1 :-/
Motorola is offering the X at a stupid cheap price. I was wondering how the dev scene is for the phone? Is it fully unlocked including the kernel?
Its fully unlocked if you buy the Dev edition or T-Mobile unlocked edition, the latter lose its warranty when unlocking. As for the 'dev scene' you could find that out yourself, but there will be official CM for it.
sent via tapatalk
Depends on which one your buying. Dev edition? Which carrier? Seems like most people (including myself) are just rooting and installing gravity box. The phone is so solid as is that I don't think most people feel the need to be flashaholics. Do yourself a huge favor and read up on all the development threads

Main thing I'm concerned with is the lack of dev's and ROM options in comparison to my Nexus.

Roms aren't in big demand here. Xposed and gravity box give all the same customizations. Plus cm based anything takes away the unique Moto x features.
If rom flashing is anyone's thing....I'd pass on the x.
Maybe when the x is done getting updates roms will start flowing....but don't see much happening before then.

The Chinese XT1580 has no Google apps at all (Play Store, gMail, etc). You will need to unlock the bootloader to revise the OS to one that has them installed. (I'm pretty sure you can't just side-load the core Google Apps)
That said, I have a Chinese XT1580 with appended Google apps, and although it's stuck at Android 5.11, it works fine with dual-SIMs, and all current apps. It even passes Google SafetyNet with TWRP installed and the bootloader unlocked.

Hi guys
I have a Moto G4, and my previous phone was a Moto G3.
The reason of this post is that I use an app called "Star Walk 2" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....StarWalk2Free) and it uses the gyroscope, but when I open the app it does not move when I point to a star.
It's a weird issue, because I had no problems with the moto g3, and I guess that the g4 is a superior phone compared to his predecessor.
I installed other apps, like skyview, star chart and no one is working.
(sorry, my english is not so good)
Thanks in advanced.
