EDIT (Important): Could someone who requested an unlock please look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/to-unlock-bootloader-hold-help-t3437617/page1 . This would help develop for this phone much faster. Please do the steps mentioned before updating.
Seems pretty guaranteed actually all the CSRs were apparently misinformed and the one of the head forum CSRs is furious about this and seems like pretty much guaranteed unlock in a reply to the post above.
Yeah ! It was me who posted on zte forums .. Just wanted to nudge them a little so they can at least come clean
Thank god you did I almost cancelled my order. I posted my frustration in that thread too.

Yup I'm there too LoL, (not my usual username i have to change that).
So we hope we get some awesome news next week (fingers cross)
Can't wait for Monday now lol, hope there is still enough buzz with the device here on XDA for ROMs and not too many people jumped ship.
Sweet...
Definitely hope we get some good roms with the bootloaders unlocked.
Had my Axon 7 for a couple weeks now, live in Oz and chinese version works fine here, and it's a pretty sweet deal. Got an Antutu benchmark of almost 142000 edging out the 1+3 by a few hundred points....
My only gripe is the virtual assistant software is only available in Chinese...
If the bootloader is unlocked I should be able to change to WW firmware fixing this....

Yeah, i added a little gasoline on there as well
Awesome! With the confusion over whether Passport 2.0 applies to Newegg purchases or if it is final/replacement-only, I was starting to worry that I may be need to cancel my preorder just to be safe. But if the bootloader is going to be unlocked, frankly that seals the deal for me. As far as I can tell, the only issue left is low-light camera performance, but honestly, with all the positives for this phone it isn't a huge tradeoff.
I just hope the late notice hasn't turned off developers of custom roms and root/recovery builders.
Yea bootloader unlock deal was making me doubt this phone, I really hope devs are still attarcted to this too. A lot of the reviews on the ZTE forums say that manual mode is much better in low light so it is most likely a software bug.

Also on the newegg product page under Warranty & Returns it states you can return for refund before 30 days but a restocking fee may be applied so you are probably fine if you want to try out the device but you might want to check with newegg just in case.

I have the chinese model, just got an update. In Chinese forums they are talking about root and bootloader regarding this update.
Am in Vietnam now and Google translate is failing, but I'm hopeful!
Where is this chinese forum? I can never find it, really want to translate some of the stuff.

Google translate, does a less than stellar job on it.
What's interesting about the ZTE Chinese forums is that you can download the full ROM updates, which you can also do from ztedevices.com, but you can't do any of it for US based devices.
That's the link, I think. My mate translates for me. I don't speak Chinese and their slang and technical terms aren't fit for Google translation
Hopefully it arrives by the 15th, so I'll know if I should cancel my pre-order Grey model.

I believe that this is the topic.
But nothing too constructive as far as google translate can take me... As far as i could understand, it's just someone that tought the OEM Unlock menu appeared with the last update (B07) but it was already there and does nothing (a lot of interpretation in my traduction of the garbage google gave me^^).

Hey guys,
For those of us that went to Google I/O, have you heard anything about the chromebooks we're supposed to be getting? We're two days away at this point so I find it kind of strange that there hasn't been any word from Google.
I guess this probably means they won't be mailing them to us. Otherwise, they would have contacted us to ask where we wanted it shipped to. Probably some sort of voucher we can print off? We'll see on Wednesday, I guess.
Anyway, post here if you hear anything!
Thanks,
Sam

thanks, but that's not what I was asking about. I know what chromebooks are. All google i/o attendees are getting free chromebooks(just like how we got free galaxy tabs). I'm wondering if anyone has heard about those. Google hasn't mentioned anything since the event.
I've been wondering the same thing myself. Whenever I receive a new email I get excited for a second, and then realize it's not from Google
Same here.
I hope tomorrow we´ll have the answer :$
Update address
Couple of days ago I emailed them and they said I need to update my address in the google io page if it is changed, this means they may mail it, but they did not give any more information about the date and the method we get our chromebooks.

Ug, I hope they don't just send it to that address. My work address is in there and then it will be a whole accounting fiasco when it gets delivered. lol
Besides, if I remember right, they said we'd get a chance to pick which model. Might be imagining that part though.
Didn't they say June 15th during the I/O 2011 keynote? So I think we might get an email for a coupon to redeem one or something beginning tomorrow.
Sundar Pichai said, "We want to make sure every I/O attendee gets a free chromebook. These are available on June 15th. We will send you an email with details so you can claim your chromebook very, very soon."
Sounds to me like we'll be picking them up. If they just showed up at our doors, we wouldn't exactly be claiming them..
I also went to IO and am also wondering about the Chromebook. Haven't heard anything since the keynote.
I originally thought they may just give us vouchers, but there are a couple reasons I think they won't do it this way. As far as I know, Google has never given vouchers and instead has always mailed the product directly. Also, if they gave vouchers, they'd have to inform the retailers about them which seems like way too much trouble for around 5000 people across the world.
"Claim" doesn't necessarily mean we'd pick them up. You could claim something online as well. I think Google will email us about a page to go verify our address and choose our Chromebook, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Isn't really something that fits my needs either, as I don't think many developers will be able to do much work in just a browser, but it would be pretty nice for basic browsing and YouTube type stuff.
yeah, I don't know what I'll use it for.. I fully intend to attempt to get command line tools like vim, gcc, javac, etc. working on it but I don't know if that will work out.. chrome OS comes with support for python and, I believe, qemacs so that's a start. I still won't be able to write android apps but I should be able to do a fair bit of my school projects.
either way though, I'm still excited. new toys are always fun!
Come on Google!
It´s already 15th!!
still nothing?
Google just sent out a tweet on their IO account saying "#io2011 attendees - we’ll be emailing you next week with details on how to claim your Samsung #Chromebook. Stay tuned!". twitter com/GoogleIO

Email notification has nothing to do with how many they allocated for the initial release. They allocated the initial batch way before the signup page went up.
I am sure Google will have 50 allotted for us early adopters.

This is really the silliest N4 related discussion I've seen so far!
I think we are going to break a record in the amount of TRASH threads today.
Haha. I hope they do sell out. If I don't like it I will be able to sling it on ebay for a profit!
I create 100 email addresses to get notification for.. just in case
Personally, I don't think they'll have enough, to be honest, a lot of manufacturers usually struggle during the first batch. I don't think I've really seen a launch where they don't sell out. Hell, even when ASUS launched the Eee Pad Transformer Prime, I was the 6th person in line in Canada to get it through NCIX and they still managed to delay almost a month after the tablets started shipping worldwide before I got mine after I preordered it.

 Wow! I really thought this thread was one of the most obnoxious ones I've read. But that 1st link you posted was ridiculous.
Greetings!
I have ran out of options and finally decided to take this step, not really sure if it will work but still hoping though that it will. I have come here to ask for help from developers and people with great knowledge in these things. Here is my situation. My friend bought a gmate+ device abroad as a gift for me here in Philippines and unfortunately, this device can only be used in the country it was bought in. After reading things in the manufacturer's site and contacting them (they have a very not-so-satisfying customer service, sorry to mention this), it seems that there really is no cure for my case unless I have it ship back and ask for refund then buy a new one here instead, which is also almost impossible because I do not have the receipt(the item was just given to me without any receipt) and I do not know exactly from which store my friend purchase it(and according to him, he is also unsure from which store exactly because he went shopping for things as gifts not in just a single store or place). So to make the story short, I now have a useless piece of device which could have been really great for my Nexus 7 if only it works. The gmate+ is a device sold by the company Skyroam. This is a bluetooth device which allows an Android or iOS running gadget to have the ability to use GSM service through it via bluetooth pairing and software. I do not know if it is really hard, but I'm thinking ( actually hoping and praying ) that maybe somebody here could do something about my case, perhaps build a workaround via a software. I would really appreciate it if anybody would take time to work on this project. Additional info which may help, if anybody's interested, I'm running the stock update Android 4.3 for the Nexus 7 (2012).
Thanks and more power!

You might need another firmware for the gmate+.
Or someone has to rewrite the Android app.
But to me it seems as if it it needed another firmware.

This is what I'm hoping somebody here could.
The manufacturer's site is up and it has details about the product as well, so the developer could know better about it. I have also found similar gadgets online. They are mostly products that are manufactured in China and have outdated softwares.
Does http://en.miui.com/thread-254886-1-1.html work for the Redmi 3 as well?

I'm also hoping for an answer to this. Really considering buying this phone tomorrow, but I don't want to have to request the privilege of using something I bought the way I want to.
All the information I have found so far mostly talks about using the official unlocking method, but then there are bits of other information that suggest you may be able to get around this, with nothing concretely stating it.

Its not begging. It's a security feature For the example, if someone steals your phone, they wont be able to easily take off all the locks to use/sell it. So yeah, its a great solution and one can always wait a bit.

Some people have had their requests denied, it's begging. I appreciate the security concern, but that's not reason enough to lock people out of their OWN phones, just because you want to lock OTHER people out of them. I'd hardly call it a great solution, best solution would be to have the bootloader unlocked and let us lock it by choice which THEN requires a hassle to unlock.

You do realize that most people don't care about that, hence it is locked by default? I do not see how it is great solution to unlock it by default
About denying it, some people dont put in a proper reason (or give some random reason) why they want to unlock their phones, so Xiaomi keeps the idiots away from bricking their phones (I suggest you looking at miui forums. People keep bricking their phones).

Another user seems to have mentioned that the chances of getting an approval has to do with making use of the Mi account so......
And how is 'most people don't care about that' a good argument? Protecting them from thieves (and themselves, I guess, as you've also said) is a much better reason/excuse.
Anyway the world of smartphones went well with flagships (, etc) using unlocked booloaders for years so why is the change suddenly needed?

Oh, that user was just talking non-sense. I registered on miui, I requested permission (did not even have phone at a time) and I got that permission few days later after I received phone.
How is it a bad argument? Most people are just normal users. They do not care about roms, recoveries and stuff like that. They just want a working phone and, if xiaomi would open a massive security hole by default, it would be bad.
How many flagship devices have you owned, if you don't mind me asking? The last time I checked, pretty much all bootloader's are locked by default (even Google Nexus phones are).
I'd be interested in this, whilst I agree that the bootloader should be locked the process should be far more simple than what Xiaomi currently offers.

And honestly, comments which are saying that "we have to beg for permission" are ridiculous. If you really want to unlock the phone, you will wait for those 10 days. It is really not that bad. Plus, you will get a bit more friendly with MIUI, which I actually use as my main driver and I honestly believe that it is not that bad

Well, there I think we disagree. Some will want to use their phone asap or not want to be bound by Xiaomi's restrictions, rightly or wrongly. If there is a method to bypass it XDA would be the place to publish, test and feedback on it, with the usual disclaimer about bricking/losing the device.
And speaking personally, I want to throw CM/stock android onto my Redmi 3 as soon as I get it. I'll either try the workaround or wait, using my old phone instead.

I'll have to disagree here as well. If that was to happen (some sort of bootloader lock bypasser) it would happen in chinese forums, where most of the stuff comes from anyway. If you take a look at all the roms/recoveries published in here, they are, mostly, a reposts from miui forums.
And considering that every gold member on miui forums, who are actual devs, get priority for bootloader unlock (get key in like three days), they really will not bother developing something like that. Its just so much unnecessary hassle. They might as well just keep investing their time into fixing bugs on current custom roms
Honestly, we could continue this discussion for days. But currently, the only way to get your bootloader unlocked faster is becoming a gold member on miui forums or just waiting for ten days.
Any other discussion on this topic is not worth anything. We will give hundreds (or even thousands) of reasons why they should do things differently, but they will still stick with their current policies. Just like MediaTek does. They are supposed to releases their sources, but they won't. And nobody can do anything about that.
So I will return to my previous point. Anyone who bought this phone knew Xiaomi's policies. If someone does not like that, they can always buy phone from a well known brands. Of course, paying at least two times the price of what we are paying for this phone.
After all, I dont mind paying less and waiting 10 days for the well spec'd phone rather than paying twice and get my bootloader instantly unlocked.

Would be nice yes - if they made some kind of software solution for it. I'm talking with the seller in regards of my phone at the moment about the issue. They have 1 year warranty which is near closing - and I don't think this is an alright issue on a phone that is pretty expensive, at least when I got it.

It is just color calibration. There is already solution with proper kernel and color calibration with rooted devices. Someone done LGs job, they just need to apply that in Oreo, just that

And yet it takes them ages to get a fix out to the people apparently... One more reason why Mobiles should never be locked without an easy unlock feature for the people wanting it.
We need to be "LOUD" for them to hear us. This is my first LG phone and probably the last because their support.

Should be easy for them to actually just have a Guy on the forum all the time as his Job - and looking it over and keeping them up to date about what is going on.
The reason I got an LG phone was because they were the only company having a newer model with old features like the battery replacement and the Micro SD Card option! Would have been nice with 2 Micro SD cards and not 2 sim cards but anyway... A lot of improvement could absolutely be made. Yet, still the best phone on what I want - and yet so much that could have been better.
Possibly Oreo is Comming in April as I've read on many Authentic Forums.
And retention fix with Oreo update.

*Sigh* Don't think so then. Would not put my hope up for it sadly. My retention is just getting worse and worse - my whole screen is effected and the second screen as well.

You can solve that with root and proper kernel. It is software problem. Because of that I hope that they will apply it with Oreo update.
Google Enterprise Phones page shows V20 with Android Oreo. Apparently LGE send this information to Google, and it's a hope for all us.

Just because it can be fixed with software with some settings is not to say it is not a hardware issue with the screen. As we know it works out of the box without any issue and over time becomes a problem.
Anyway I have a lot of retention - and not that much experience with installing a new kernel or jail-breaking the mobile first. I have the latest update for the phone and not sure if that can be jail broken, I have not looked into it yet.
The thing is - it's going to take hours and hours to get me to the point of jail breaking, looking into kernels as it seems theres not a few to chose from? asking people and reading on the topic and there always seems to come up issues as well on the path that you need to use time for trying to fix.
People do some changes to the color for getting the retention away, right? So even if it fixes the issue or lessen it at least is not to say that is the settings the company had in mind in the first place for it. So I'm not keeping my noose up for them fixing the ghosting - but will be happily surprised if they do. But in this society of throwing away and getting you a new phone all the time - well... It's like many of the other stories where they engineer things to break on purpose so they can keep on selling new ones. This world is wicked!

Good news, everyone!
On the T-Mobile site it has now appeared that LG V20 will be getting Oreo.
