Tab 4 SM-t337a Lollipop 5.1.1 Brick Problem? - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all - I have spent the last several days searching the web for a solution and I fear I may be stuck. From what I can gather, there is no stock firmware image of 5.1.1 that I can use on my t337a Tab to restore to factory. I installed KingoRoot from the play store and then tried to install Xposed Framework. This is when all hell broke loose. I am not familiar with android as I am an ios guy and admittedly did not spend enough time researching. I now must defer to the world and accept the flaming that will almost certainly ensue. Here is the info I have:
Lollipop 5.1.1 was the starting point.
SM-t337a tab 4 8"
Knox Warranty 0x0 (not sure if that matters)
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
Reactivation Lock: Off
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enable (csb)
RP AWREV: s1, t2, r1, a2, p1
Secure Download: Enable
UDC Start
Sorry if that means nothing but I want to be thorough if anyone is willing to help. I have tried the LP Boot Fix with no luck. I boot to the AT&T logo and after a few secs it locks up and sits there. I have attempted to downgrade to KK but the write failed (auth). I believe I need to flash a pit file? but before I jump back in, I thought I would consult some people more educated than I am. My understanding is there may be a way to take it to a retailer and have them reflash but that would be admitting defeat.
Thanks in advance for any help offered. If more info is needed, I will get it promptly.
This may be in the wrong place. Can a mod move it where it should be? Sorry

Man, I must be screwed! I really thought I would be able to get out of this one. Is there not an expert out there that can point me in the right direction?

I had the same exact problem basically.
Here is how I fixed it:
I found a stock rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/general/links-galaxy-tab-4-official-lollipop-5-t3102844
And I used this guide here: https://androidmtk.com/flash-samsung-stock-rom-using-odin.
This will require a PC, and a way to connect your device to it.

Awesome! You have a SM-T337A as well? My biggest issue is AT&T locking it down.

restore back to stock rom
I have a t337a also and restoring back to stock rom fixed mine. I really wish there were a way to root and install rom on this thing. I have now been searching for another tablet that I can root. Seems like such a waste. I like this device so it's really frustrating at thus point and not an easy conversation with the wife why I need amother tablet.

Did that link to the stock rom? I thought that was an ota that I could not use. Do you have a link to the stop rom you used?

He must have never updated to Lollipop. Once you do that, your screwed. There IS NO OFFICIAL FIRMWARE FOR THIS DEVICE RUNNING LOLLIPOP!!!! You can bring it to a Samsung Service Center in Best Buy but once they see the custom lock on your boot screen, they will know that you messed around with it, and they will not flash it. From what they told me, once your tablet goes into custom kernel status, their software will not be able to restore the firmware. Not sure if this last part is true, but what is true is that there is NO FIRMWARE ONLINE ANYWHERE FOR THIS DEVICE RUNNING LOLLIPOP. I've been screwed for several months now over this same issue. I went on E-bay and bought the unlocked T-mobile version of the Tab 4 which does have the software available. I will NEVER EVER BUY ANOTHER AT&T DEVICE EVER!!!!! I will have AT&T service but I will use a T-mobile device.

This is what I see when I try that method.

That's a update file and you must be on stock unrooted Kit Kat to flash that. That's why you are getting the status 7 error. Like I said, you are screwed like everyone else. Your only hope is bringing it to best buy and u have better luck than I did.

Yeah, when you do a factory reset or flash firmware, it will take longer to boot. Its like a new device, booting for the first time.

AFAIK, it is not (yet) possible to root this device...
i have not yet tested using kingroot, which from what i've read, has been working for some new SM-T5xx devices, which are not in the support list (http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-t3107461)
If anyone can root this one, please post how you've done it.
EDIT: It's now confirmed that kingroot can root this device!

works for SM T533 Thanks a million for this app! I just installed the APK on my Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 64 bit edition (SM T533) and now I have rooted my tablet!
Most root apps I want work as usual, only installing SuperSU does not work (it cannot update the su binary). But then again, the KingUser app already has the SuperSU functionality.
Just remember to reboot the tablet after rooting, else you get frequent pop-ups of KingRoot crashing.

Kingroot works. I've just rooted my SM-T533 again, after a full factory reset.
The latest version of firmware dated 08-07-2015 (T533XXU1AOG1) does not work with any of Kingroot versions.
Just make sure you have kingroot 4.5 and (this is important), a firmware with a date of 20-04-2015 or lower (e.g.: T533XXU1AOD3). You can find them all in here. (Follow this procedures on how to install an older / official samsung firmware via ODIN)

[Q] Galaxy S5 Straight Talk variant SM-S902L

You guys are my last hope!
Got the Galaxy S5 from Straight Talk, after being fed up with a lousy upgrade experience with Virgin Mobile. Although the phone functions great, I have a real issue with ST not rolling out firmware updates like every. single. other. carrier.
First off, is there really no hope of a stable firmware update to Android 5.0?
Second, is it possible to root? Towelroot fails, and I can't find any straight answers anywhere else. Has anybody had any luck rooting?
maybe tell us model numbers etc?

Ok so I'm about to try to root an s5 tracfone model# sm-s902l and this is the only place I can even find anyone else looking for help with this particular model BUT it seams that no one could help this person. I also looked at the list and didn't see my model# does this mean that it can't be done. I don't want to end up with a brick. Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. I've never rooted a phone before.

Wait what?
How'd you pull off root I've been looking everywhere on the net since I got this phone...nobody has this variant. Towel root doesn't work haven't tried cf auto root yet I was planing 2 try.
And what roms are u using? I mean damn dude youve solved alot of my and other peoples problems i wish you had elaborated. @apsavarese did you ever give it a go?
Seriously, you guys who say you have root, what did you use to gain root access??? What was your process? And roms?? What kind of roms? And which version of cf auto root are you saying works with the s902l?
Correct me if I'm wrong (PLEASE!) I think sm-s902l is a klte. So klte roms work on this model?
Sm-s902l rooted
I've rooted this phone it has an unlocked bootloader so it's pretty easy use odin v3.07 and flash twrp problem solved i used the latest s5 klte .tar file and its working fine with full root enjoy
Thanks to @ddjr for pointing me in the right direction

Not at all, not at all, it was all you. I'm fumbling in bumbling around here trying not to Bork my phone. You da man!
Ive done lots of fumbiling lol but thanks again man. Now that i have root ill see if i can get some recovery files made for this phone unbrick.img's and the like so when people screw up these phones flashing roms they have a way out, but itll be this weekend i got alota hours to put in at work
I cannot wait to flash different roms to this phone. but I WILLwait until I see some unbrick imgs. it's just too expensive of a phone to Bork.
Ive extracted the system and boot partition with adb im pretty sure that someone can make a flashable firmware zip out of them with the andriod kitchen ill upload them when i get a chance i dont have wifi right now and the system file is pretty large.
Ill screw with cooking em myself aswell but its gonna be awhile i dont even have linux install, ill probly set up a virtual os.
Careful on messing up this phone to the point where it cannot be revived with out flashing via odin. There is currently no official firmware files on www.sammobile.com and www.samsung-updates.com.
Can we just take a backup from rom manager and turn it into a file that can be installed via odin?

The stock firmware can be extracted from this phone and set up as a flashable odin file, im working on it sort of.....as in i dont really know what im doing but i like to dabble. Ill post the needed files tonight just in case someone good at this wants to take a whack @ it. Im finding it hard to get any time but i do have android kitchen up and running.
Ill edit this post with the file links
Boot image:
http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/510266/boot.rar
System image:
http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/510279/system.rar
these were pulled with adb
Just a little update for u guys ive done alot of digging and cant find/or make stock firmware for this device so if you brick and cant get into recovery your screwed.
That being said if you make a full backup with twrp you should be ok to flash roms for the verizon s5 but you would still be taking a moderate risk something could allways go wrong. And youd be ok if you could still get into your recovery and use your backups.
Now with that out of the way i know theres people out there that can unbrick these phones with the right tools and files if anyone with the ability wants the files needed (if i havnt provided the right ones all ready) please pm me and ill give any stock files u need.
That goes for anyone else 2 i have twrp backups of system, modem, ect. If you need files to restore your phone. I also have the PIT file
Ill keep tinkering because its fun and ill post any success or failures here in the future
I'm hopeful for success for you. Waiting with fingers crossed!

After a little research, it does appear that an OTA was released for the AMZ XT1625. Sorry, I can't think of anything else that hasn't already been suggested.
It seems Moto has changed their site and updated the s/w it now shows XT1625.
I am currently downloading from motorola right now. I am also making a backup like normal. I will let you know if it works for the XT1625 as mine is retail US.
OK I downloaded and flashed it. While it came to the July 1 security update build still said -49. There was no Amazon ad crap and I got a system UI fc and retail something fc. Beyond that it was working just fine after about 5 mins.

I restored my backup. I didn't try to downgrade. I will try that tomorrow.
I reflashed the moto firmware from moto website. Tried to downgrade and got an error myself. However I did have the factory -48 firmware. I don't remember where I got it from so sorry I cannot link it. I was able to flash twrp and wiped all data then flashed -48. I instantly received software update after I finished the normal setup. It updated to build number MPJ24.139-64. As soon as everything finishes reinstalling on my XT1625 I will post a screenshot.
Okay I found it again. Hope this will help out. Also this is only for Retail US. I do not think that it will work for AMZ
Firmware That I flashed. http://www.filefactory.com/file/3t2...PJ24.139-48_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
im in the same situation with a soft bricked, bootloder locked, amazon g4. and i would like to try to update with a zip file of the update if there is one to be found somewhere.

So, does "remaining updates: 0" mean they are done supporting the phone?

I've been dodging installing the PJ1 update for a while. I went and checked, and it has the same line: "remaining updates: 0" I don't think we can assume that Samsung is going to stop updating our Note 4s. Whether they'll give us Nougat, well, that's another question. But I'll bet they keep giving us the security updates a while longer.
remaining updates have absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the device is still being supported. it is an indication of how many updates remain before you're "up to date." for example, if you were to flash PH4, then update, you'd have that number go from 0 to however many updates will get you to PL1

No noticeable changes, maybe somethings related to performance only.

@aaron74 is it possible to get Grace UX on stock or deodex MM for N910P?

Short answer: No
I guess anything is possible, but because Grace is not a specific thing. It's the whole look and feel of the rom. So you'd have to rewrite and edit every aspect of the rom, because I assume samsung builds their rom around grace.
So this would be too much work for anyone.
So really only viable way to get Grace, is you just port a Grace rom. Hence the Note 7 ports.
Hope that answers you question. Best way i can explain it and understand it myself.
This will be the last update we will ever get!
Does anyone know if this update has locked the bootloader?

You have an inside line on this or just a feeling?
bootloader still unlocked, now I want to know if I can flash any MM roms on this PL1 baseband and software
can someone upload the zip?
Well, ****. My dumbass updated to PL1, then wiped the hell out of everything and now it won't let me revert to PK1....and there's no PL1 stock out there yet haha.
Does anyone know which samsung software we're supposed to use on these? i've tried kies 2.6, 3 and smart switch....none are working.....multiple PCs with fresh drivers, still nothing :/ I'm afraid i'm screwed until someone uploads a copy of PL1....and even then, who knows lol
---------- Post added at 02:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:39 PM ----------
Update- tried flashing PK1 again thru ODIN....this time it got about 70% of the way thru flashing system.img.ext4 and then failed, kinda random.......but that's progress, right? Just means i need to keep trying i hope...
---------- Post added at 03:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:46 PM ----------
--Further update--
So, relentlessly, I kept attempting....different USB ports, different cables, etc, and finally it worked 100%. Had to install TWRP, and reboot a few times cuz it got stuck, but....IT WORKED
What's wrong with Pl1, mines working great

I can't count how many installs I've had fail due to crappy USB cords. You fight with it thinking it's software and then it dawns on you, wait maybe it's this cable that's only a few months old! I'm no IPhone fan, but they did it right with their phone cable port.
Also I thought I had read somewhere that you need to use your USB 2.0 port as sometimes that is an issue as well.

I know USB 2.0 was a common recommendation a while back but recently read that USB 3.1 is backward compatible. Perhaps 3.0 is too but I was looking for latest.
Recently built a modular PC and got an USB adapter, if needed, but didn't need it. Last Odin session was Windows 10, did not run as administrator, used original Note 4 USB cable, USB 3.1 and USB driver downloaded from Samsung support for Note 4 which passed without issue. Flashed PJ1 stock tar (verified md5 from AFH upload by @LMMT from stock thread in general forum) using Odin 3.12.3 with Odin defaults.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711451
TWRP flash was with auto reboot option unchecked.
https://dl.twrp.me/trltespr/twrp-3.0.2-0-trltespr.img.tar
Motherboard is Gigabyte if that makes any difference.
Yeah, I get the frustration you're facing, I've dealt with it too. But my PC was 2009 era, not modular for component swapping and seriously needed replacing. Good news is Note 4 is compatible with updated PC and Windows 10.

I'm thinking maybe nothing's wrong with PL1....this phone I have is apparently a victim of the widespread Note 4 eMMC error :/
In other words, flashing back to PK1 didn't fix it for me. random reboots, and frequent boot failures requiring extended battery pulls.
Still not convinced it's a hardware failure.... but that's probably due to my ignorance and optimism lol. No one seems to have truly found a fix-all for this :/

Can someone send me in the right direction - G930V --> G930U?

I have tried multiple zips to try to get the U software on my phone but always ends up not booting. It will show galaxy S7 and then boot straight back into recovery.
Can someone please provide a link to the exact download files I need. Sorry to start a thread over this. I'm just having a hard time finding the correct files. Thanks in advanced.
Anyone?
It should be as (simple) as..
Rooting your phone -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039 (this won't trip KNOX)
Downloading the proper firmware from SamMobile -> https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G930U/
Flash the firmware via odin (you can use the same method found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/official-stock-firmware-update-odin-t3335065)
Profit
I just did this recently to switch from SM-G930R4 to SM-G930V
Note, you will lose all data on the phone if you try this.

Go to Updato.com and get the newest SM-930U firmware from January and flash via Odin. The 930U firmware you flash must have a bootloader the as or newer than your current firmware or it will not boot. You do not have to root to update via Odin.

Thanks. I actually already got this done. The problem is I was using the CSC HOME file instead of the Other one. Thank for the reply tho! Maybe it will help someone else!
Just curious what the benefits of converting your Verizon phone to the U version is?

Less boat , no Verizon boot animation, and my favorite the spam dialer Verizon thought was a good idea to remove. I like to think of the U as pure Samsung vs the Verizon gimped software.

Is the bootloader unlocked? Is there any down side? LTE performance etc? Can this still be done if I loaded the Nougat beta on my G930V? Thanks in advance.

Bootloader is locked because it is a snapdragon variant. Only downside is can think is you would have to pay your bill in store or on a PC. Lte seems the same. Yes if nougat is on. You just load up the most recent U firmware and flash over nougat in odin.

it shoudl be simple...but it failed for me in one of my two phones. now it keeps going to recovery (downloading the original firmware to reflash it). the one that worked was a SMG930VZDA (made in vietnam) while the one that didn't is a SMG930VZKA (made in korea). I hadn't updated either one from the original firmware, but not sure what firmware they came with....
so if it works, it's great, but if it fails...
I used the instructions and file in

You can still use the My Verizon app to pay, if you want to. You do lose Verizon's native VVM app, but there are workarounds to use Voice or another third-party VVM app (I personally use YouMail).

Hey your right! One less hassle.
Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a new g930r4 (US Cellular) because my last samsung got stolen. Anyway, the first time I turned on the phone, I started having multiple issues (kept rebooting, unable to recognize headset, kept freezing). Then I decided to change it to the g930U firmware and I noticed a HUGE difference. I totally recommend this to anybody that has same problems I mentioned. Thanks to all the information from this post, I was able to successfully flash the firmware. Thank you all for the support! I hope this helps someone out there whos still got some doubts.
Hello, I have the SM-G930V Snapdragon variant in the US and I would really like to root it to get a custom ROM. If you wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate a reply (if you have one) to this thread I made on the topic: https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s7/help/questions-bootloader-rooting-custom-t3721109
