Heat issues - OnePlus X General

Hello onyx users
Recently I experienced extreme heating issues on every ROM I tried(also on OOS).
I can feel the heat trough my OPX case which is very annoying.
CPU-Z displays temperatures around 48-55°C.
When playing Pokemon GO the temperatures are around 70°C(I don't think that's normal).
I tried underclocking to 1.9Ghz but that doesn't changed a thing.
The problem occurs on every ROM and doesn't change with another kernel.
I guess this is a hardware problem ?
Thanks in regards :good:

With Boeffla`s kernel, try to undervolt the CPU. I have also underclock the CPU at 1958 Mhz. I have selected the "Undervolt heavy" profile and now I don`t have heating issues anymore.

I believe you can turn on thermal controls on some kernels. So when a certain temperature is met will throttle back.

I'll try doing that, I'll let you know if the problem is gone or not

Hey man, I have the exact same problem.. it is so bad, sometimes even if I am just surfing internet I experience some heavy heating issue.. please let me know if you find a decent solution. Thanks

I sending back my phone for repair

My OPX gets quite warm as well too, I have a cputemp app it often reads ranges from 32-60c. I've seen it get UpTo 70 if I'm rebooting it over & over. Avg use is between is about 45c. About 50-55c on heavy use

You may use an app such as System Tuner to watch your CPU temperature. Mine get 50 celcius after 15minutes playing NFS MW... I dont know if it is still normal.
What version are you on? Mine used to be uncomfortably warm, but since 4.2.2, that has been fixed for me.

Hi,
It feels hot... its very subjective without a real measured CPU or battery temp. Like opticaldh said, install an app with monitoring CPU temp and see. What kernel ?
Also what is the battery temp?

Hi,
Normal with these kind of games... But without more informations, overclock, underclock, undervolt, what kernel?
In any case with such of but playing heavy game I don't see where is the problem.

I am on Franco kernel, fast CPU, UV 150 (Default for 384Hz is 850, now it is 700). That's what makes me worry.
My Nexus has been getting uncomfortably hot. I first noticed it last night after getting to a friends place and took the phone out. It was really hot and the battery had dropped about 20% for a 15 minute drive. I checked the battery and Google Maps was showing at the top with the most usage even though it wasn't enabled.
I then proceeded to check the settings in Maps and turned off all the location tracking stuff which was unfortunately enabled.
However, even today my phone was again quite warm after driving around. Battery didn't even show Google Maps so that wasn't the cause.
It may have something to do with signal issues always trying to get the strongest signal as it doesn't happen when I am at home and not moving around.
Maybe your friend is hot

is this your first smartphone? they all get "hot"
Only way to really reduce heat without an impact on performance would be to undervolt. Another way would be to underclock. Both you need a custom kernel to do.

well its normal then
@Detailed, @opticaldh, shutup and stop telling people to undervolt, youll just get them into more trouble.
Matrix kernel runs at 288 MHz when idling, you can under volt it at around 650ma there.
I am running Motley kernel, idling at 308 MHz, UV at 700 ma. The only time I notice my n4 getting hot is when I use GPS and charging simultaneously.

i don't have a problem with heating on my Nexus 4, running latest franco kernel + uv settings makes it a lot cooler than before, when i don't use uv settings it heats up too pretty fast but with those settings it even stays cool on benchmarks and stability tests, cause i don't play on my Nexus 4, could try that out too to see if it gets hot. well it gets slightly warm but never "hot" i would never call it that.

Nexus 4 overheating issue

I know that overheating in nexus 4 is common problem, but today after installing custom ROM CyanogenMod 10.1 my phone has started overheating more quickly. Is anybody know any solution of it?

overheating i doubt, what was the cpu and battery temperature? just because it feels warm, doesnt mean its overheated. when it actually overheats, first the cpu will lower in cpu speed(safety), then if that doesnt help itll shutdown. is the weather around you warm btw?
+1 @simms22
Also, if it's really getting to warm your phone would run unstable.

Thanks for your replay, I still don't understand why my mobile has started getting warmer more quickly ever since I've installed custom rom. I've hardly played any graphics intensive game on it so far.
I don't know from where to know cpu and battery temperature. Do I need to install any application from playstore? Weather around here is warm. On average 35-40 degree temperature.
My phone CPU reaches 70˚C and battery 50˚C when driving in my car, charing with gps on a this time of the year(hot as hell here as well).
Everything seems to be find, didn't even turn itself yet so I doubt theres anything to worry about.
My gf forgot her phone in the car stand in the sun for a few hours, when she came back it wouldn't turn on until it was cooler so you can be sure your phone can take care of itself.
Maybe your governor was changed when you flashed the ROM, depending on the governor (like performance) your cpu clock speed may be increased more often then with the original governor.
You can check your governor with apps like no-frills cpu or setcpu and check the temperatures with cpu z

its easier to use an app for battery and cpu temp. being 35-40C around you, id expect the phone to be warm most of the time. anyways, after installing a custom rom your device spends a lot of time syncing stuff. so itll be a little warmer than normal. after about a full battery cycle it should stop, and will be a little cooler. also, a reboot after several hours after a rom flash should help a little too.
Ok, thanks for your quick response.

[Q] How to tweak this kernel?

How to tweak this kernel for stopping G2 from overheating? Even I lowered my CPU to 1ghz it is still overheating. :crying: please help. thanks
Hi,
What is exactly overheating for you???
Can you share your CPU/battery temperatures?
Overheating... But when? When playing a game while downloading a huge file over 4G and while charging?
viking37 said:
Hi,
Guys you realize that you have a quadcore at 2.26 Ghz... And when you play a (heavy) game or some other heavy tasks (browsing in 4G for example) it's normal that the CPU heats, right?
Temperature is very subjective without reading the CPU temp with an app, it feels hot in your hand (you can have cold hands and in this case you feel much more the heat) and it's hot because the CPU temp is about 90°C is different...
Heat and overheat (or "maximum overheating" like above ) is different too..., in any case there is a thermal throttling that prevent overheating. Our CPU shutdowns at 120°C so there is a little room... Even 80°C is nothing for the CPU...
Even 90°C for the CPU temperature is almost nothing (for the the stressed people) and there is a thermal protection in any case. Thermal throttling that reduces the CPU freq according to the CPU temp, same thing for the battery. And in case of extreme temperature -> shutdown.
And if you speak about "overheating" when playing a game or browsing while charging your phone...
Check your CPU temp with an app and report here...
It remembers me all the threads about "overheating" in the Nexus 4 forum...

After that you can try to undervolt a little (be carefull, step by step and don't set your undervolt at boot unless you're sure it's stable) and play with the thermal control by decreasing the max CPU temperature before thermal throttling...
You can use an app like Trickster Mod or Faux123 app (kernel enhancement) on the Play Store.

After playing heavy games, I can use my phone to iron clothes. lol. Well, I know it have quad core that's why I bought it. And I think having this kind of power is a disadvantage too because it heats very quickly like 10mins of heavy gaming.. And by heating it decreases the battery life.. I don't want to use this quad core phone in just browsing and watching video only, i bought this for gaming also.. lol
I don't know now where to use these quad cores.. lol... I envy my brother now, playing games smoothly on his ip5s with cool temp.. >.<
I have fauxclock and leave it to Intellithermal frequency throttle temp:80c and core throttle temp 85c. Is that ok?
Thanks :cyclops:
Re,
Hummm.....
Decrease the two temperatures of 10°C... And use Ondemand or Interactive governor with MpDesicion "on"...
Try undervolt/underclock a little... No need to underclock at 1 Ghz otherwise, right, it will lag...
But I don't think you really understand what I was trying to say... Heavy games+quadcore 2,26 Ghz+10 mins of use with that...= heat (and not overheating), are you sure there is something wrong or abnormal?
What is your CPU/battery temperatures???
And please don't compare our CPU's with the one in the Iphhone 5, it's not the same thing.

Begin with -25 mV but don't set at boot, use your phone for a day like as always (games, browsing, etc...). If you don't have reboots or anything wrong then try another step by - 25 mV. If you went too low your phone will reboot, (so don't use the set/apply on boot setting or you could have a bootloop), at this point you"ll know the undervolt possibility. Apply your last setting before the crash and see...
I don't know what we could do more... I think you need to read a bit more

Heloo i have the same problem when i play games likeplants vs zombies my phone hetas badly imen like 70°C(160°F) and i dont think it normal in like 10 to 15 min to be like that,i have root andtrickster app instaled and i alawys check the temperature.
I know its normal for the phone to heat but not so fast i seen thrads where users reported theyre g2 doesent heat bad att all.I have cpu threshold. on ,activated it from secret men.
So please helpwith advice and youre experience with this problem.
Thank you!
Hi,
Strif3, it's normal, point. 70°C is the CPU temperature limit before thermal throttling. What can I say more??? Read my posts above...
Use your phone like you want, as usual in any case there is a thermal protection! I think that Qualcomm knows how their SoC needs to be set about thermal stuff and I think (I'm sure) you can play heavy games without any issues even if your phone is at 70°C.
If your CPU temp was at 100°C (without modifie the thermal throttling), ok maybe here there is a problem (it depends also what you are doing), but I repeat 70°C during a game and after 10 mins i's totally normal!
If you all guys are worried about the CPU temperature, stop playing games, browsing in 4G and underclock your CPU to 300 Mhz and all will be fine...

Lg V20 Aggressive Thermal / CPU Throttling?

Phone: VS995 Rooted running WETA rom + Werewolf Kernel.
Issue: Phone heavy CPU throttling when charging, gaming or even just booting. The CPU throttles to 652mhz on the small cluster and 1036mhz on the big cluster whenever I do something cpu intensive for a couple minutes. Obviously this causes a lot of stuttering and lag. I have to let it sit untouched and it will go back to normal.
I've monitored the temps and CPU doesn't go above 50c when playing games and my battery temp is below 25c. Even if the cpu temps go back down to 35c, it takes a while for the frequencies to ramp back up to max.
I'm using EX kernal manager and have disabled core_control and msm_thermal but doesn't help.
I've tried the stock WETA kernel and Werewolf kernel but they both don't seem to affect the heavy throttling at all.
Wondering if there is a kernel or a fix for this, kinda like the lg g3 thermal mitigation setting, or the CTTMOD found on other devices? Or maybe my device needs to replace thermal paste?
Thanks!

I've noticed this as well on WETA but only when charging. For some reason on WETA on stock kernel this phone slows down dramatically when plugged in. I just thought it was LGs method of thermal control but on MEGAROM V4 it doesn't slow down at all for me when plugged in so idk but would like to know how to fix cause I have it plugged in during driving a lot and switching back and forth between music and navigation becomes frustrating because of how laggy it gets

Yes! That's exactly what I'm experiencing too.
Having it plugged in throttles the cpu immediately. Doesn't matter if it's a quick charger or a slow charger. The battery and CPU temps are both low so that's not an issue. Even when it reaches 100% battery and just trickle charging, it still throttles randomly.
I'll start a different rom and see if it helps.

My phone always stay Cool even when charging but cpu frequencies keep changing.
Even when i set the cpu max to 2105mhz it automatically slow down to 1036mhz , which makes the device super laggy and shuttering.
I've tried stock rom, weta, and some other roms and also tried some kernels nothing seems to be fixing the issue but Resurrection remix rom fixed it, no frequencies changing no lag no shuttering but i also has a problem that second screen doesn't work at all :/

the problem is not much in the CPU as it is tested for higher temperatures but for the battery ... as the heat is definitely deleterious ..rather than putting mods (which modify the thermal) I recommend a good custom kernel or alternatively if you want to save battery use morpho (ex spectrum) obviously you must have the root

ok but guys do you realize what you're doing? if you play games that require a lot of resources it is obvious that the CPU and GPU heat up now if you didn't know there are pads specially created for this ... they cost about 20 euros, you place the phone in this pad and behind it there is a fan mounted and in addition there are function keys obviously it connects via Bluetooth, and for those who love these games it is the only real solution especially if you spend many hours playing, I have never had thermal problems indeed actually on a leEco the 2 yes but it was a problem that was due to the charging settings too aggressive. so since changing a battery today is not easy and above all it is better to save the phone with one of these pads ...
