PF2 firmware, notice a difference? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

I am on PE1 and debating taking the OTA. If you've taken the latest OTA and are now on build ending with PF2, is there an improvement over PE1?
Has anyone downgraded? I've heard the bootloader has updated, making downgrading firmware unlikely.

i am also kind of curious if anyone knows what this changes. I assume the bootloader update will prevent downgrading. Is anything else updated in this release? kernel, baseband, etc?

No, it can be rooted or downgraded so it's safe to try. It's a full firmware upgrade, modem and all but I haven't tried it because I'm on U and liking it.

Thank you dajmanjt for testing!

Been running F2 for a little bit now. My thoughts are everything seems to be exactly the same as the previous firmware. It seems to be faster, but I think that might be placebo due to having a fresh flash. Everything's smoother when it's fresh. The signal strength from the new radios seem to be the same. The bloat seems to be the same. Went ahead and tested root, everything went perfect for that. I have not tested rolling back to previous firmware, so I cannot confirm that at this time. The change log shows that the only thing updated were some security patches from Google and Samsung. So basically no big reasons to upgrade to newest firmware unless you just want to have the newest imho.

Were you able to pull the zip file?
im going to go with you got that message due to flashing a 4.4.3 rom then going back to a 4.4.2. rom. im pretty sure when you get a real update it always says are you ready to update to kit kat 4.4.3 or something like that. but i could be wrong. this is just going off of memory, and the fact that you look like you have a custom rom on the phone.

I'm going with that also since i don"t see anything inside the cache folder and indeed i was returning from liquids official KK 4.4.3 build. But since i have been going from AOSP custom roms almost every week I never got this until now. I did read about this bug in CM though. Sorry guys false alarm.

Any ideas how I can get it back?
There's not much of anything new in this build, it's the same number (LMY47D) as v10B. I had both installed, and i can't see any noticeable difference. Both builds had stagefright patched, at least on 815 open eur...

I can definitely get a full day of use but this battery life is not as good as my friends s7 edge that is a power user. On vacation my droid turbo died (lots of video and photos) and at the end of the day he still had 40 percent!
Just wondering if it's this new update? I have disabled every stock app that I don't use.
I am used to an unlocked bootloader device or equivalent with Xposed and such. I will say that I don't really "need" root with this phone. It does everything quite nicely. But I am kinda regretting letting the system update and now I am basically locked out of rooting this?
Would another factory reset be my only option here? TIA
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
You mention a droid turbo, is that the phone you have? If so, this is probably the wrong forum to ask in.
If you do have an edge, what firmware are you on? Afaik the engineering kernel for root has worked on every update so far, but it certainly won't improve battery life.

Thanks for the reply! I have an s7 edge for Verizon. And you're right for some reason rooting seems to worsen the battery. Here's my system info. I've tried using the battery optimizer, not using it, disabling Google sync, doesn't matter still has super high android system and android OS usage.
I guess I'll try another factory reset?
My friend also just confirmed what I was not hoping for, his s7 edge battery life has also worsened since updating.
Is there a way to revert back to previous versions and prevent update notifications? Tia
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
If you don't use vvm WiFi calling or video chat I say go u firmware. If you do use all that try a clean Odin install of the new firmware. Layered on ota updates can cause issues.
As you are on PH1 firmware, you cannot downgrade to a lower firmware. The bootloader was updated in that version. As the other poster has suggested, you could try a clean flash of PH1 or the latest u firmware.

You can flash the PH1 firmware from here and use the HOME_CSC instead of the CSC_VZW and you will unroot and not have to reinstall apps. Or you can flash the PI3 U firmware with no Verizon bloat from here but do the opposite and flash CSC_OYM instead of HOME_CSC_OYM and factory reset. All the directions you need are in post 1. These are the only two firmwares you can flash because you are on PH1 with a updated bootloader.
I am not currently rooted

New T Mobile Firmware and Bootloader Update

Looks like the new T Mobile firmware update has a huge change...G930TUVS8CRJ1...updates the bootloader to b8. Just a heads up as SamFirm lets you download this update now. Looks like the U firmware is going this route too.

Yep....at least for right now. That was the point of the public service announcement. I have two sprint phones, one on b4 and the other on b5, so this is a little welcomed surprise.

It looks like the U firmware should be updated to b8 shortly, so there is always that.
Well that's fairly miserable. Fortunately I must have had several updates queued or something, because my phone updated but I was able to downgrade. Must not have been the update that updated the bootloader.

Read what I wrote. The upgrade my phone performed wasn't the v8 bootloader one. I think my phone had 2 upgrades to do, and the second one was the bootloader update. I dodged a bullet.

Thanks for posting this PSA! This is one of the reasons why I wait for I update. The carriers out there are getting slimy about the bootloaders.
