I can definitely get a full day of use but this battery life is not as good as my friends s7 edge that is a power user. On vacation my droid turbo died (lots of video and photos) and at the end of the day he still had 40 percent!
Just wondering if it's this new update? I have disabled every stock app that I don't use.
I am used to an unlocked bootloader device or equivalent with Xposed and such. I will say that I don't really "need" root with this phone. It does everything quite nicely. But I am kinda regretting letting the system update and now I am basically locked out of rooting this?
Would another factory reset be my only option here? TIA

You mention a droid turbo, is that the phone you have? If so, this is probably the wrong forum to ask in.
If you do have an edge, what firmware are you on? Afaik the engineering kernel for root has worked on every update so far, but it certainly won't improve battery life.

Thanks for the reply! I have an s7 edge for Verizon. And you're right for some reason rooting seems to worsen the battery. Here's my system info. I've tried using the battery optimizer, not using it, disabling Google sync, doesn't matter still has super high android system and android OS usage.
I guess I'll try another factory reset?
My friend also just confirmed what I was not hoping for, his s7 edge battery life has also worsened since updating.
Is there a way to revert back to previous versions and prevent update notifications? Tia

If you don't use vvm WiFi calling or video chat I say go u firmware. If you do use all that try a clean Odin install of the new firmware. Layered on ota updates can cause issues.

As you are on PH1 firmware, you cannot downgrade to a lower firmware. The bootloader was updated in that version. As the other poster has suggested, you could try a clean flash of PH1 or the latest u firmware.

You can flash the PH1 firmware from here and use the HOME_CSC instead of the CSC_VZW and you will unroot and not have to reinstall apps. Or you can flash the PI3 U firmware with no Verizon bloat from here but do the opposite and flash CSC_OYM instead of HOME_CSC_OYM and factory reset. All the directions you need are in post 1. These are the only two firmwares you can flash because you are on PH1 with a updated bootloader.

I am not currently rooted

did you flash 6.0.1 with or without wiping the data? if you didn't wipe the data then wipe it, do a factory reset from recovery maybe the old data files are causing the problems.
I wiped and now installed new rom RR still same problem

It's probably the sensor in your battery that is going nuts. It's not software related.

I would just unroot, flash stock lollipop, get mm update (6.0) OTA, then get 6.0.1 MM update. Then root it and you should be good to go.

Just pull out the battery and start the phone. If it doesn't boot, try flashing rom via odin (or recovery if rooted.)

Does it reboot again to download mode when you try to exit?
When I remove the battery and put it back it shows firmware update encountered an issue.

It seem that you were trying to downgrade with a locked bootloader(the Sofware Revision of the system you're trying to install is older than the actual system so the bootloader refuse to install it)and as far as i know the AT&T bootloader can't be unlocked so it's impossible to downgrade to a firmware whit older Software Revision ..Reinstall the latest firmware with odin.
P.S: was you trying to downgrade to use towelroot exploit?
As long as you haven't connected it to a computer and sent anything to it you can just take the battery out... if you have tried sending an os to it and it locks up mid download then as far as I know you're screwed (in lack of a better word)

As long as the bootloader is still OK you can re-flash.
It is like non downgrable device reflash lastet stock rom with odin and phone booting again :victory:
If I had this screen too, I hade to download the kies 3 software and follow the steps they told. Works pretty well after getting a little practice

MM, Nougat, stock, root...Which has best overall performance and reliability?

I'm rooted via instruction from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/how-to-root-s7-edge-t3410470 and continually have to adjust settings just to have mediocre performance, not even to speak of other issues there seems to be no workaround for (like the OS not being able to handle background apps properly so I'm getting notifications late, or not at all...But I DO get notifications from apps/games I haven't opened or played in a week). I also signed the petition to unlock the bootloader. I WANT the keep the fight going, but I NEED a properly working phone more (ultimately, my way to really show my dislike of Samsungs lockdown decisions is when I buy my next phone from someone else!).
So I ask, what should I put on my phone for the most reliability and performance? Is that the current stock Marshmallow? Nougat? Or something else?
Thank you.
Stock whatever if you really wanted root sorry to say this is not the phone for you.
Stock TMO Nougat, very closely followed by stock Universal Marshmallow. Some people are experiencing very minimal lag with rooted TMO Nougat, which gives me hope for rooted Universal Nougat.
Definitely rooted nougat.

Care to share your kernal settings? I'm having a very bad time with my root on ENG kernal. Do you suggest a different method?
Thanks for the replies folks. I decided to go with stock nougat and so far it's been like a breath of fresh air when you've been breathing nothing but convoluted smog and I haven't even debloated it yet.

Seems to me root isn't the way anymore forbs7, lot of bricked phones, everyday people saying they're stuck in a boot loop or its laggy after root. The only reason I would want to root is to disable native upsampling across the whole system. Right now disadvantages > advantages imo. Other than that there is nothing else I want to do that I can't already do with Nougat and formely MM on my S7E.
I wish they would release the U version...

Looking for help to pick a good KitKat rom

I used to do a lot of this back in my Bionic days, but I've just been stock for a few of years on my hltevzw Note 3. I've been happy with my stock 4.4.2 KitKat except that It's been eating the battery lately. The bloatware seems to be unhappy that I won't cave to Big Red, so it just runs up the CPU until the battery dies.
Anyhow, I bought a spare Note 3, unlocked the bootloader, and got TWRP going on it. It's on 4.4.2 right now (stock) and I'm ready to flash something bloat-free. I've read stories about GPS or MMS or modem not working with some roms and I can't have that. I just need a rom that will run like stock without the bloat. I use the pee out of GPS, I go through 35 gigs of data a month, I text instead of calling, and I still accept the occasional phone call.
What would be recommended for something like that?

Jasmine Rom 6.1 it is based on OF1 but works fine with the 4.4.2 bootloader (unlocked) and 4.4.2 modem. I run it with idlekernal or also with the reccomended leankernel. Very battery friendly.

I saw where people had talked about Jasmine. I'll take a look. I also heard about Jackyaway. But aren't some of the roms not good for VZW or Dev phones?
I installed the lk_hltevzw-v6.4.zip via TWRP an all seems to be the same as stock KitKat. How do I know that there is a change?

No changes to the phone according to the "about" screen. It must not be as easy as flashing a rom from TWRP.

According to what you posted, you only installed the lean kernel. You didn't install the rom itself. Read the link I posted, follow all the steps for dev edition. You don't need to flash the modem, nc4 modem works fine.

S7 Edge won't let me turn on the WiFI/WLAN

My S7 is completely new and was sent to me a couple of days ago. But after some usage, the phone turned off its WIFI/WLAN.
I thought it just was the phone going a bit crazy but after I wanted to turn my WIFI back on It wouldn't turn on.
But now without any Internet connection, I cannot install the latest updates that may have fixed it.
I also searched on google after a possible answer to my problem, but all I found is stuff that even a 12-year-old knows.
So now I am trying my luck here.
But I tried some off them including a Hard Reset, wiping the cache partition, etc.
None of the above worked for me.
Wiping the cache partition temporarily helped, as I was able to connect to a WIFI signal.
But it sadly ceased to work again.
So, I will send some Screenshots and that's it.
I hope you could help me or even other people that have this problem!
(I am German so the text "Sicherer Modus" translates into "Safe mode")

What operating system? Latest Oreo?
If not can you update?
Sounds like potential faulty device. Can you take it back?

Yes, I have the latest Oreo installed.
The WiFi normally works fine and I have managed to even get it working for a whole day, but after I restarted my phone it wasn't working.
I think I can get it taken back, this is a pretty new phone since it came from the phone insurance company. I got it as a present from the previous owner after it came from the insurance company.

I hope your issue is resolved but looks like a buggy blcp. Have you tried flashing? Yes though bricking is always possible but if you follow a guide step to step it shouldn't happen. Goto sammobile, get latest firmware for your country and flash. This should solve your issue. Odin is tool made by samsung so flashing through is safe, if you follow all the steps.
