ZTE Axon 7 or Huawei Mate 8 - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

I'm torn between these two devices. My main concern is battery life.
I know the huawei mate 8 has the best battery life of all time. Wanted to know how the Axon 7 battery life is.
Thanks!

It's 3250 vs. 4000 mAh, so it's obviously not going to as good. From what I've heard, the Kirin 950 is more power efficient than the Snapdragon 820. There's also the matter of how optimized the OS will be, which we have no information on just yet. Really, if you're worried about battery life the most, go with the Mate 8.

FYI, I'm switching from a Mate 8 to a Axon 7. The battery life came along with aggressive PM that stopped music playback, delayed notifications, etc. I'll take the shorter battery life if I don't have to unlock my phone every five minutes to get my music to unpause.

Im just browsing and give 2 craps what phone you chose but dont have those issues.
But its just dumb to compare the Huawei Mate 8 to any regular size device.

Maybe he meant the Honor V8?

In my view about the only thing the Mate 8 has which is better is the 6" screen.
Other than that the axon is at least on par and has it beat pretty especially the speakers and the Snapdragon in it (better development than the kirin in the mate 8)
I wish ZTE had of made the axon 7 the 6" device instead of the low rent device they gave the bigger screen to.
The smallish screen is the only thing preventing me (well the locked BL for now also) from pulling the trigger on the 7...just dont think I will be happy unfortunately.

I find extremely frequently that I want to use my Mate 8 with one hand but can't, thus I actually like the smaller screen. I just wish they'd put in an even larger battery, even if it made it thicker

For me 6" is great, i miss my nexus 6.
The mate doesnt have front facing speakers and there isnt a ton of development for it so i passed on it
Would be nice if Huawei would stop putting their in house kirins in their devices and go with snapdragons...im sure development would really pick up.

It's true that the Kirin is bad for development but i don't see them putting aside their own hardware for something that isn't better (even worse if you look at thermal throttling) in real life usage...

Nah, too small especially when coming from a 5.7" note 3,4,5 nexus 6P and even more so the nexus 6 with the 6" screen. Im just used to bigger screens at this point.
Go big or go home
But there will be different opinions on both sides and neither one is wrong nor right.

I had no issues with the size of the Nexus 6 either and still use it as one of my 2 daily driver phones. It has an excellent weight balance across the device as well, which made it very easy to maneuver around one handed when you have your index finger in the rear dimple.

For now it is but ZTE said its a matter of "when" they will let it be unlocked not "if".
I will wait until it happens personally then go from there.
Ill likely nab a note 7 for my primary device when it goes live in Aug (as long as there is a non edge version) but always buy another device for a secondary play toy, the axon would at this point be a good choice. The zenfone 3 deluxe may give it a run for the money though.

Screen quality vs FHD

Can you see the difference between this and a FHD 5.5 inch screen? Just curious.
Edit:Yet to see a display that looks better than my nexus 9.
QHD and fhd on a 5.5" screen you won't be seeing any different at all (beside performance) you can even test that your self by switching you axon 7 from QHD to FHD using ADB or Terminal if you are rooted.
P. S. Comparing my LG G4 screen to my Axon 7 , the Axon 7 is a winner by miles.
I see difference, had op3 and 1080p pentile arranged screen was painful to look at.
Wysłane z mojego HTC_M10h
You will see a difference only when you use VR device.
Not really, no. That's why I don't really consider the QHD a big selling point with a phone this size. I'm not really interested in VR, so QHD vs FHD doesn't make any difference to me.
Arguably, QHD will result in worse performance than another phone with identical specs since it requires more resources. That said, the performance hit is negligible with the specs of the Axon 7, so I'd still opt for QHD all other things being equal. It's just that FHD wouldn't be a deal-breaker.
You will see a difference if your coming from a better screen. I went from g4 to one plus 3 to moto x pure back to g4. Op3 was an awful smudge of a blurry screen , mxp has light bleed everywhere but screen is nice, g4 is really nice . axon looks really good in vids and yes yes yes 1080p is no longer good enough for me.
After using QHD smartphone screens i must admit i definitely see the difference between FHD and QHD. This is already more obvious with amoled pentile arranged panels already lackin density of pixel. So axon 7 has 5,5 inch pentile amoled display, so if be intend to consider as 2016 hardware flagship hardware the only choice is 1440p screen. Really glad ZTE didn't make any compromise in that aspekt
Wysłane z mojego HTC_M10h
my s4 with a 5" amoled 1080p screen you can easily see the pixels, on the axon 7 you cannot see the pixels.
In my opinion, if someone can see a difference, especially a big difference, it's imagination.
I can't see anything and in my opinion, people only see it, when they know, which device they are holding in hands.

Nonsense. I have a Note 5 which I used for ages and then went to OP3 and the difference in resolution (and screen quality) is abundantly obvious. Now sold OP3 (such a terrible speaker) and moved to the Axon 7 and the difference in screen res is clear and obvious. Not always, but obvious nonetheless.
Just my opinion. Anything else without blind test will be nothing except this.
I know this from audio and whisky for example.
People always say that they can hear a difference between high priced audio equipment and higher priced equipment while sitting in their unoptimised living room. In blind tests, they cannot say to what they are listening.
Whisky or wine the same.
If people don't know what they are drinking, the test results are completely different to the results if they know it.
The talk around resolution is the same for me.
There may be a very small amount of people, which can see the difference.
But if in comments, there are hundreds of people seeing a clear difference, this in nonsense (just in my opinion).
Earlier I made a blind test by myself and some friends.
The most of them could not directly tell me the difference between 720p and 1080p on 5''.
I think on a blind test, far about 90% would not see the difference between fhd and qhd on a 15cm distance.
If you see it, congratulations.

Has anyone successfully lowered their resolution on this phone? I tried a 'wm size 1080x1920' in Android Terminal Emulator, but the capacitative buttons stopped working after that, so I had to do a 'wm size reset'.

help switching to p10 plus

Hello everybody i have mate 9 pro and i was thinking to upgrade to p10 plus , but is it Worth it? The shop said they will buy the mate 9 pro from me for 705$ and the p10 plus costs 684$ so can someone help me to decide?
What perceived benefit do you think you'll get? Apart from microSD I can't see anything... (slightly better camera maybe)
No. Wait for Mate 10 with its Kirin 970. P10 plus definitely not an upgrade to Mate 9 pro which has larger battery and curved Amoled screen. And from the pricing as well, Mate 9 pro is considered by Huawei themselves as more higher range than P10 plus.

A good chance of seeing another 5.5 inch Mate 10pro to compete with Iphone 8 plus and other 5.5inch category phones. Unless Huawei pulls off a bezel less and the screen size become less relevant. Too early to tell. Also rumors of Honor 9 being released in a 5.5inch version in addition to the 5.1inch, in which case it would have a lot similar specs to P10 series but in a different body and cheaper price tag. But with owning a Mate 9 pro, a proper upgrade will be in Mate 10 series which will have the new Kirin 970.
Can't tell you if better than your previous phone only just upgraded from Sony Z3.... Yes I said that right I came from Z3 to the p10+. The camera is better, the internal memory 128gb is better, having Nougat straight out the box is better Z3 was left at early realise of mm, having finger Id is new to me.
The touch screen is a little unresponsive someone's I need touch screen 2 or 3 times before it acknowledges the touch.
The only major downside is I'm unable to root, which up to now all phones I've rooted.
I'm impressed by the phone and battery life, I've had phone for just over 2wks.
Sent from my VKY-L09 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
It's not really an upgrade, more of a side grade. I've switched from the regular Mate 9 to the p10 plus. Battery life is worse but camera is slightly better especially in low light.

Who all is buying it?

So who all's planning to buy the OnePlus 5? What do you think of the recent leaks and rumors?
If it has 5.5" - 6" FHD display with a bezeless design without 2.5D glass, a dezent battery (3600mAh+) and headphone jack i will buy it.

What he said!!! 100%
Hola
I am worried about the rumours talking about this version being among the thinnest phones on the market. If this is true then based on recent trends it usually means a smaller battery. This will certainly be a deal breaker for me assuming this is true...
Let's see what they come up with.
Sent from my ZTE A2017U using Tapatalk
I'm buying it for sure
Depends if it has a 1440P screen. I don't want them to go 1080P pentile again. I have a 3T I just got so I'm not in a big hurry. The snapdragon 835 isn't a huge increase in speed over the snapdragon 821.
Oh so very close to buying it. Depends slightly on specs, and more if the Bank of Wife™ will finance it for Fathers day
I'd buy it if they have astounding results with it. The camera leaks sound great, larger battery 3600+ should be ok (i have confidence in them increasing the battery because they stuffed 400mAh into the same size chassis for the 3t i think they can do more), 1080p AMOLED screen, Snap 835 or 850, alert slider again, awesome fingerprint scanner like the 3t even the same one would be perfect no complaints there, good speaker or speakers dont care where they are as long as they arent on the back, stronger vibraton motor AND that headphone jack better stay put. If it doesnt i wont mind, i use my bluetooth headphones more anyways. If its under 500 or at 500 ill buy it.

Why do you want a 1440p Screen?
Waiting to see if they add a better DAC/AMP combo the Axon 7 Audio was no joke for it's price if OP can improve it for the OP5 I'll pick it up
I'm considering it. I'll have to take a look at the final product and if it's killer I'll go for it. It'd have to really be an upgrade from the OnePlus 3. If the differences are not that big then it won't be worth the buy.
Can't wait to get my hands on this bebe!! gonna be sweet.
I came to oneplus from the Note 7 and I'm likely to get the Note 8 when it comes out. I"m keeping my eye on this one as runner up in case the international Note 8 cant be rooted.
Will buy if,
a - Good battery life
b - Non rattling vibrating motor
c - better camera
d - Improvements in the UI / features
e - headphone jack
f - IP68 rating
I like 2.5D glass, i like the leaked design, in black, hope for 1440p display if it's amoled.. and good battery. I'm in.
flagship killer price, not flagship price, and im in..
Can't wait til it's released. Hopefully the camera will be as good as they say it is.

Honor 8 pro FASTER than OnePlus 5?

The processor Kirin 960 doesn't outperform Snapdragon 835 in benchmarks but who cares about benchmarks in 2017 the real life performance of Honor 8 pro seems to be just smooth even while gaming and other stuff and their is a plus point that the Kirin 960 processor doesn't seem to get overheated while playing heavy games unlike Snapdragon 835 in OnePlus 5 so I'd feel to opt or prefer the underrated Honor 8 pro or Honor 6X or Honor 9 against OnePlus 5 considering the price that Honor Phones are available!
If you get your hands on honor 8 pro, please tell us how it compares against OP5
People still care about benchmarks in 2017. Wow.

I completely disagree with that.
Honor 8 pro has a bigger and higher resolution screen with higher body to screen ratio.
Homor 8 pro has better chipset with larger ram and internal storage.
Honor 8 pro has a better front facing camera.
The things that could have been upgraded are -
Rear camera - Both honor 8 and honor 8 pro have cameras with same aperture (f2.2). I would have liked the aperture to be atleast 2.0 on honor 8 pro.
Amoled screen - Maybe they could have used an amoled screen
Nothing else really. I am completely OK with my Honor 8 pro. Just want 8.0 upgrade by the end of year.

I have seen Xiaomi is going to release Note 7 in Feb 28 but I have been wondering that "It comes it with snapdragon 660 or 675?". If they release Note 7 with snapdragon 675, the Note 7 Chinese version will lose android development because no developer will buy it.

What 50% rate? If you are talking about price, you are mistaken. It will be 50USD more expensive than RN7 for the equivalent ram/storage variant. And thing about in screen fingerprint is a rumor based from that 48 Mp teaser photo. If the specs were based off the teaser, there would also be 24W charging and liquid cooling. But that would put this phone in above 300 USD price range which would basically make it more expensive than a Pocophone. And nobody would be buying it. But they are presenting it is a game changer, budget king and so on. Makes no sense from marketing point of view and is completely illogical business-wise. After all, all phone manufacturers are in the business of making money.
Don't board the sheep train. There will be no in screen fingerprint, only different cpu and camera sensor, eventually more ram/storage
the big thing for the pro is north american support. the note 7 doesn't support proper north american radios, the pro will, its the same with all previous generations

Why you know? note 7 global haven't released yet
As far as I know only the processor is different between note 7 and note 7 pro. But it's not noticable when day to day use. Is there any difference between in these devices apart from processor.

The main different is camera: Pro comes with sony imx 586 and other hand is samsung m1.
I want metal frame + Sony IMX586 ( for Google Cam ) + Snap 670/675/710/712 on N7 Pro
I don't like plastic bezel on N7

You have mate 20 pro, why buy budget phone like this?
I think note 7 is much more bang for buck in terms of value for money when compared to the note 7 pro.
the Rate at which technology and phones cycle now you need to upgrade yearly now to be on par with whats new, I would much rather spend on mid range once a year than buy pro or flagship and look outdated a year and half later...
is there NFC only on the pro version?

Mi 9 has NFC, they need to make sacrifices to cut costs on this line.
