Hello
I was experimenting with my N4 and formatted all the folder such as /sdcard, /aboot, /boot, /cache etc just to install CM 11 M7 properly without any trace of the previous ROM.
I tired to then sideload and received failed messages and 'rebooted' into recovery ie. PhilZ in my case. At the time of booting Philz started to throw cannot mount /sdcard and all other folder I formatted previously, error messages.
Then I tried to fastboot flash recovery just to make sure if any files of Philz got deleted, with no luck same messages. CWM also threw same messages.
Now I think it's something related to corrupt partition.
So my question is flashing the stock occam images images would heal the corrupt partitions or my phone is permanently hard-bricked?
Please advice.
Is it advicable to follow this guide: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ne...3923-guide-nexus-4-factory-image-restore.html
OR
this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/how-to-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2010312
Thanks
I would try the second method you posted. After formatting all the partitions I'm not sure if it's going to work. What file system did you format them to?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Try the factory images first, just use the flash-all.bat in the zip. If you still have errors you're gonna have to fix with lgnpst (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/tutorial-how-to-unbrick-n4-t2347060)
I'm running unlocked stock 183.46.10. The file system for my data partition is F2FS, and I believe it should be EXT4. I found this out by trying to install Bliss, and not getting past the boot animation screen. The suggested "fix" is to change data file system to EXT4.
Do custom recoveries "remember" the file system that was backed up? If I back up my system and then change file systems, when I go to restore, do I need to revert back to my original file system?
[EDIT] I answered my own question - TWRP does "remember" the original file system backed up, and will issue a warning that the restored system may not boot if you are restoring using a different file system. I went ahead and restored my backed up system, but now, my data partition is using EXT4 instead of F2FS. So far, all seems to work OK.
Okay, so i have a Ze551kl with unlocked bootloader and twrp. When ever I try to flash a rom it always gets stuck in a bootloop. Tried a bunch of roms including the official rom. However, TWRP can't mount Data or System. I'm hoping I just messed up the partition but I need to know what format Data and System are. Also will fastboot oem format help or will it ruin the phone even more?
Edit: To help me find the Format all you have to do is go to twrp and select wipe (Notice this will not wipe anything if you follow this correctly) then select /data and select repair/change file system. Then select format and at the top it should tell you what format the partition is. If you could be do this with /Data, /System and /Cache it would help alot. After your done just keep exiting/using the back button and reboot ur phone. It won't corrupt anything but It will help me
So i have tried to downgrade to android 7.0 from oreo as i have replaced the screen to an unoriginal one and the touchscreen didn't work (j730f/ds.). I flashed twrp through odin and it booted up but i couldn't use touchscreen as well. so then i found older version of twrp (3.2.1-0) and it worked but it claims it is unable to mount storage. changing filesystem works only for cache and system (i haven't tried changing it for whole storage option or internal memory as i don't want to format the efs folder) and my question is what should i do now? flashing anyting using twrp doesn't work and i'm not very keen on loosing my imei.

The system partition and EFS partition are separate partitions to /data, so no need at all to touch those.
Format the data partition and it will mount.
The Format data option can be found under the wipe settings.

Worked for me. Thanks!
Hi,
so i've tried to root my phone and then to install a custom rom. the root went without any problem. After the root, i tried to install lineage OS 16.0 and followed this guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-7/development/rom-lineageos-16-0-t3923203
i downloaded the rom and gapps, put them on my root directory of my phone and then i wiped System,Cache ,Data, Internal Storage and Format Data. After wiping, the roms were gone, so i rebooted and transfered them again into the root directory. Then, i went onto installing (just like i did with magisk) but an error occurred saying:
E: String resource 'zip_compatible_err' not found. Using default value.
Zip Treble compatibility error!
Invalid zip file format!
Error installing zip file '....'
Updating partition details...
...done
Ok. So then, i tried to install another Custom Rom so i went for Oxygen OS, it actually did install but then i couldn't boot into it because it was telling me there was an 'Android System Error'. Ok, back in TWRP, i wiped everything and then i tried to install the Original ROM but i got the same error as above.
For now i tried to download the miFlasher tool but it only wants to download some driver and it literally takes forever.
Hope you can help me...
Download Fastboot ROM for your device and do this Fastboot Method

Those recoveries are old.. Use orange fox recovery 10.0-2 it will work and format data then install rom.
title?
@BlackGarnett
Thanks, that help me on a quick one!
@loseyourself
Also thank you for this advice, i'm new to rooting smartphones and install cfw since i was using iPhone for the past few years.
But now i got another new question: if i use orange fox recovery and i run a backup with it (i think there will be an option to do a backup), then i format all data and internal storage, can i still recover from the backup or will it be deleted?
thanks again!

When u make a backup to internal all is lost after format it. Orangefox put files on the internal sd. After format reboot recovery in the option section and flash again Orangefox.
