[Q] Bootloop and corrupt partition - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I was experimenting with my N4 and formatted all the folder such as /sdcard, /aboot, /boot, /cache etc just to install CM 11 M7 properly without any trace of the previous ROM.
I tired to then sideload and received failed messages and 'rebooted' into recovery ie. PhilZ in my case. At the time of booting Philz started to throw cannot mount /sdcard and all other folder I formatted previously, error messages.
Then I tried to fastboot flash recovery just to make sure if any files of Philz got deleted, with no luck same messages. CWM also threw same messages.
Now I think it's something related to corrupt partition.
So my question is flashing the stock occam images images would heal the corrupt partitions or my phone is permanently hard-bricked?
Please advice.
Is it advicable to follow this guide: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ne...3923-guide-nexus-4-factory-image-restore.html
OR
this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/how-to-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2010312
Thanks

I would try the second method you posted. After formatting all the partitions I'm not sure if it's going to work. What file system did you format them to?

Try the factory images first, just use the flash-all.bat in the zip. If you still have errors you're gonna have to fix with lgnpst (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/tutorial-how-to-unbrick-n4-t2347060)

[Q] Accidentally Wiped /data, Stuck in TWRP..

Well, it looks like I unintentionally wiped the /data partition using TWRP right after I did my first backup after rooting. Now I obviously can't boot since system, data, cache, etc. are wiped. The backup I just made was also wiped. As others mentioned in the TWRP thread, it's a bit different for the Nexus 10 compared with other devices - out of the 11 android devices I've had I've never done this!
Anyhow, can anyone a solution to getting a ROM back on my device? I can't seem to mount anything to my PC using TWRP. I can get fastboot working, but not ADB or file system mounting.
Thanks
Ehm, does the Nexus 10 have a ad card? If yes, use another phone to put a Rom on it and then flash it trough twrp

have you tried mount sd storage? or you can try the toolkit in the sticky thread.

Get a stick drive, sd card reader, etc. Put a rom on it & transfer via twrp file manager

Just boot into fast boot and flash the stock images.

can you use adb to push a rom to flash?
TWRP allows you to adb sideload ROMs. Google TWRP adb sideload and it'll walk through the steps. You can also search the Original Development section and find MSkip's toolkit which I believe can flash ROMs and whatnot from your computer. It will also automate installing the proper drivers if that hasn't already been done.
Thanks for all the help. ADB wasn't working in TWRP - I believe it was a driver issue on my PC though. However, as jellydroid13 mentioned, I was able to use fastboot to flash the stock 4.2 image from google, and then boot up from there. Thanks again!

Add me to the list of people who have wiped data over 9000 times in CWM and after updating to twrp and doing it there, have lost everything. I have backups, but am having no device found with adb sideload and suffice to say im a little confused. Confused why "wipe data" and wipe SD card and wipe SD EXT all do the same thing.

+1 here
(i'll look for an OTG cable^^)
i had a similar problem several days ago
used ADB sideload to flash ROMs
why adb anything when like jellydroid said you can use fastboot and push all partitions and restore to stock?
I'm facing a similar issue but my device is Moto G5s Plus.
The problem I'm facing is that I accidently wiped out the mobile's system completely, and now it does not even have an "internal storage" partition at all (since it shows 0 MB). Hence, I cannot even transfer any files to my mobile because my computer does show the phone detected but no "internal storage exists".
Please help me out..

[SOLVED] Cannot mount /sdcard or flash in recovery following phone encryption

Hey guys,
I recently encrypted my phone for my work e-mails (the Exchange server required it). I made a complete Nandroid backup and also entire Titanium backup before encrypting, just in case something went wrong. But the encryption went beautifully.
However, I've noticed that I cannot mount /sdcard or flash anything from recovery. I can't update my Franco kernel or CM nightlies... It's a bit annoying because I want to keep flashing! lol.
My phone asks for my password everytime I reboot (in order to decrypt sdmount and mount the ROM), so I'm assuming this is the reason I can't mount it in CWM recovery.
Anyone know of a bypass or fix for this?
I don't really feel like restoring nandroid backup or doing a factory reset everytime I want to flash a new nightly, it just doesn't make any sense (besides I haven't even tried to see if I can restore from nandroid or factory resetting, they might not even work because it can't mount /sdcard?...)
I've searched around the forums for some complex solutions such as using ADB or Odin but I'm not interested in that.
Thank you!
UPDATED:
Ok guys so basically restoring from nandroid did not work because of the sdcard mount error.
I did a factory reset, erased all data and format system. But I couldn't format sdcard or even user data as it didn't have access... Basically the phone got bricked from then on and I had to completely restore back to stock bootloader/recovery/stock rom with adb/fastboot. Instructions are found here:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/nex...e-restore.html
Hopefully this will come to use to someone else. I've heard that TWRP does not have this sdcard mount problem with encryption as does CWM, so that's what I installed this second time around.
Why don't you just transfer the files regularly without entering recovery mode?
The recovery doesn't allow mounting to the PC. It just doesn't work.

I've never mounted to PC in recovery. My files are backed up on my computer and nandroid as well.
My issue here is that I can't regularly flash new nightlies (and thus mount internal /sdcard to do so) following the phone encryption.
Since my internal /sdcard path is encrypted with a password, CWM recovery can't bypass this and it gives me the error "cannot mount /sdcard".
bump?
Any help would be highly appreciated!
Is this a lacking feature in CWM Recovery? Have the developers looked in it? Or is there already a fix for this without doing an entire factory reset?
Daily bump.
Anyone there? (echo...)

If you want to recover the data from SD card, you do not use the SD card.
You can try to recover the data from the card with some specific software.
I will try to fin one I used before.
It will take few minutes... do not use the card.

Many thanks, this link helped me restoring my Nexus 4. I enabled "encrypted storage" and wanted to root the phone and almost bricked it.
It's also possible to flash the stock recovery with odin, then do a real factory data reset and be able to install a custom rom, after (or before) which you can reinstall a custom recovery.

[Q] Stuck while flashing kitkat 4.4 on nexus 4

Hi,
so i followed the steps to flash android on my nexus using ClockworkMod recovery.
I did the following steps and now I am stuck. my phone wouldn't load and I cant do anything about it
1. Bootloader was unlocked and I installed the clockworkmod recovery.
2. backed up my phone
3. I copied the ROM zip file to storage of the phone. (I cant find it through recovery now)
4. rebooted into recovery mode
5. did the nAndroid backup (which is not working now and hence my phone is spoiled)
6. performed complete wipe of the device including factory reset, cache partition and dalvik cache.
the problem is that I cant restore the nAndroid backup which i created using the recovery any more. I also tried mounting the USB storage using recovery but it still doesn't work.
I am also not able to see the phone as a Storage device in my computer any more otherwise I could load the ROM file again and try.
Please suggest any ideas or solutions.

Okay, first what rom are you flashing. And did you do a factory reset in the recovery before you flash it?
By flashing in custom recovery means you are flashing an unofficial version of KitKat, because normal you use fastboot method to flash the factory image from Google. Try using this stock rom from fireb33: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010887
Secondly, did you flash the latest version of CWM recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2198942
If you used latest recoveries and factory reset, and it still doesn't boot, then backup your nandroid and use the fastboot method to flash the factory stock image (link in my sig).
To backup your nandroid, you need to locate where it is and use "adb pull" command, try this: adb pull /data/media/clockworkmod/ C:\backup\
The MD5 mismatch means your file is not original or corrupt, it could be due to various reasons.
Nexus devices do not have microSD card so they cannot use the mount USB storage feature.
I am willing to bet most of your issues could be avoided by using TWRP recovery instead of CWM. Get it here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/mako, flash it in fastboot by "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img", it is not compatible with CWM nandroid.
If you neeed to send certain files to your phone, don't forget the sideload feature if you want to flash a zip file from your computer. Enable sideload in your recovery, and type: adb sideload *.zip

the only optionyou have is to flash a factory image through fastboot..head over here --> Click Me
i downloaded the factory image from google extracted then did the same fastboot flash as the 4.3 but switched the names to the files in the krt16o zip. it worked perfectly for me. tried using wugs toolkit and everything went to crap. i say do the same method as 4.3 but rename all the files accordingly.

[Q] Disaster: Error while restoring /system from Nandroid Backup in CWM

This all started when I downgraded CM 11 to CM 10.2.1. I got a bootloop, I reflashed CM 11, backed up my important data and then wiped, cleared caches and installed CM 10.2.1 (w/out GApps) Then I attempted to restore a nandroid backup I had made a night before.
1. I got a md5 mismatch (I had the backup in an external HD and moved it to the phone) so I edited the md5 file on the PC (erased contents) and put it back in data/media/clockworkmod/backup/ and that worked
2. I attempted the restore again, this time it went past restoring the boot image but gave me an error upon attempting to restore /system.
3. I tried advanced restore, restore data and cache but none of my apps appear
I have no clue what to do, I really want to restore system, how can this be done?
I have a months old nandroid backup as well. Can I restore system from that and then data, cache etc from the latest backup?
I would try to flash the factory image with fastboot. Then get a custom recovery back on and try your nandroid again.

OK I'm downloading that as we speak - occam 4.3
How do I install it though? Its in tgz format.
I'm worried that the /system is corrupt?

Use 7-zip to extract it. There'll be a flash-all.bat file in there

EDIT: NM re fastboot
Could it be that /system from the backup is corrupt?
Also, do I do the "fastboot flash userdata userdata.img", step 10 which is optional?
So after I'm done doing this, I should install CWM via fastboot, then restore the nandroid, correct? No need to flash CM first?

If you run the flash-all.bat file your phone needs to be in fastboot mode.
Moving the nandroid from you hd to the phone could have corrupted it or it may have gotten corrupted putting it on the hd. I'd give it another try, but don't try to edit the md5

Skip step 10, maybe you'll get lucky. Doing step 10 will wipe all your data.
Afterwards you'll have to flash cwm in fastboot, fastboot flash recovery cwm.img

What if there is a md5 mismatch due to the foldername changing/creation time diff?
The thing is, I do a checksum check and both: "system.ext4" and "system.ext4.a" have the correct checksum in the md5 file.
Will try this tomorrow morning. Does the flash-all.bat do step 10? Erasing the /sdcard?
Thanks a lot man!

Edit, and good catch, backup what you can because it will wipe your sdcard
Another edit, I'd adb pull your /sdcard to your pc just to be safe. Boot into recovery, cwm and then from a command prompt on your pc, adb pull /sdcard c:\sdcard

It's a pain, 99% of my stuff is backed up, some via helium and titanium, adbs and also old nandroids. I really shouldn't have upgraded to CM 11 and should have done my research before downgrading or updating with the intention of downgrading if i don't like the ROM..sigh

OK I reflashed factory, got stuck at the booting "X" so I installed CWM anyway via fastboot, attempted to restore the nandroid and it gave the same error at /system.
Now, I reflashed factory again, got stuck at X but this time I used stock recovery to erase the data. I will try the nandroid backup later tonight - though I do feel transferring them from /data/media/cwm/backups to sd then to the PC has corrupted them somehow but then where and how do I transfer/keep the enormous backups?
Meanwhile, is there anyway to extract data from the nandroid - individual stuff for example, app data etc.??
Thank god I have adb backups, for apps and full (without system apps). I also have older nandroids and backups of the SD..
After reverting to factory, none of my nandroid backups (3 from Feb) are restored completely.
For all 3, I get: "Error while restoring /data" as system is restored fine. Same problem with all 3 nandroids.
I would appreciate some help here. And again, is there a way to extract data from these nandroids?
Please help!

Maybe try with latrst version of twrp instead of Philz.
Flash TWRP
Wipe
Advanced wipe
Select system
Repair or change file system
Repair
Let it do its thing, then flash your ROM.
