I got out of my car on a gravel drive, slipped and dropped the phone and it landed face down on the stones. It only fell from about waist height and I didn't think it hit the ground particularly hard.
I'm just glad the phone didn't cost me £600+ otherwise I really would be upset.

Ouch! I feel your pain. Did you have any cover or screen protector on it?
Ditto - sorry to hear this. I see the silicon cover in the photo, but would also be interested to know if there was a screen protector on it.

I see you can buy a new screen on the official website for $99.
As you said, I did have a silicone case on it but I didn't have a screen protector on it. When I purchased the phone I did get a tempered glass screen protector as well but I could not get it to fit with the silicone case. As others have reported here when I tried to put the silicone case on it lifted the edges of the screen protector so I gave up.
I did look at replacing the screen, I've done it on a few other phones, but it looks as though the screen is glued onto the frame and and I'm not sure how easy it would be to replace while keeping it looking good. $99 is a lot to spend and then be unsuccessful. It wouldn't be so bad if someone else had already done it and there was a YouTube video or something showing taking the phone apart. I did actually find the screen available for $70 here http://www.elephone.cc/lcd-display-touch-screen-for-elephone-p9000.html but even at that price I was unwilling to take the risk.
So, anyway, I have now ordered another P9000 from the same seller as my original and I am definitely going to have another go to get the tempered glass screen ptotector on this one.
Once I've got the new phone up and running I may take the old one apart and document it on this forum to help others out.

That will be very good of you. I am sure there will be many people with the same problem. Why they make a cover and protector that aren't compatible is beyond me.
My phone is still on its way to me via snail mail, so I will only have it in about 5 weeks......
Has anybody tried to replace the digitizer/screen yet?! I had the same as you. After just 1 week of use, it broked ...

The one plus x has its screen glued to the frame as well. There's a few YouTube vids on that. Should be the same. PS. I tried it (without the digitizer), then bought my P9000. Broke the heck out of the digitizer trying to get the screen off. I'll probably need to hot glue the new screen and digitizer in, but it was such a colossal pain in the butt getting the screen off, I just gave up and bought this one.

Good luck replacing it I just took mine apart and here's some pics and notes that might help you.

Don't feel bad
I had this happen too, screen is very week, cracked mine while sitting down with the phone in the back pocket (never done this before), cracked 2nd screen by dropping from car dashboard about 40 centimetres and was shattered by impact with a plastic ashtray. Not repairable that time, as mainboard blown because stupid glued design forced the battery connector loose while replacing back cover. This is the most fragile phone I have ever seen, I'm gutted because I was very pleased with it, so bought my daughter the same device, which has now just been completely bricked by an OTA update when it is only 2 months old. If that wasn't bad enough I had bought a replacement for the one I abused so little to break, which arrived working however had a faulty USB circuit and destroyed 2 chargers and forced 1 laptop to be repaired in an effort to charge, and took massive arguments and a threat of legal actually to obtain a refund.
Never again.... good specification but wrong compromises by elephone, very fragile device that is very difficult to repair.

Well, I just noticed earlier today that I have a bunch of dust forming in the bottom left had side of the screen. Looks like between digitizer and LCD. Already called in an RMA. Pics to follow (once wife is home with camera).
Here is the pic.
Bump, for everyone to see the pic.
I've heard of dust getting under the screen, but damn that's pretty bad. Have you tried calling TMO, and have them exchange it for a new phone? I just can't see why they wouldn't do it. Plus, you're still under the 14 day exchange period, no questions asked.

Yeah, sorry, to be more specific, for employees (me) you have to RMA the phone, then once received and verified, they will send you another. Yes, its a BS process, so as a customer, you don't have it too bad! Haha, anyways, process is in motion.
I thought I was the only one! While, not as bad as yours I have debris collecting in the same spot! I am sending both phones I got back. I am going to use this post to demonstrate that this is potentially a flaw in the design. What a bummer, I love this phone but I can't afford for there to be a gap for dust to enter under the screen. So glad I saw this post.
There are multiple light leaks around the plastic housing surrounding the touch screen. Inspect the seam surrounding the top portion of the phone carefully while the display has a white web page up. My wife's MT3G Slide has four big gaps that can bee seen on the seam of the plastic housing surrounding the screen. Mine has 3 of theses gaps one of which has already allowed dust in under my screen. I cannot believe that these flaws were not found upon inspection after the units were assembled. I am so disappointed; I was really enjoying the phone. Thank goodness I am still in my buyers remorse. If this would have happened in a warranty situation I would be stuck in a loop of refurbished devices with the same issue all while being stuck in a new 2 year contract. Dodging a bullet on this one.

You were dead on with this. I thought you were referring to the hard buttons below the screen. Speaking of those buttons; that is also a design flaw as it appears dust can get under the screen there as well. As one pushes down those buttons it exposes the edge of the touch screen. I should have taken your words more seriously instead I was dumbstruck by what is an otherwise great phone.
Just checked my screen in the sun ... dust everywhere under the screen. Bye bye beautiful Espresso; you are fatally flawed.
Ahh, I found a pin sized hole under the slide behind G button. Also if you open the slide, and use your phone that it turns on the light you will notice light inside the micro usb connector. I am not sure if this means that dust can pass through it also.
Will post pic of said pinhole later when it gets a little dark here. Will try blowing in some baby powder into that hole to see if it does get into the screen.
EDIT: Pics of pinhole behind G button at the back of the slide.

EDIT: I might bring to T-Mo store for replacement but not giving up on this phone. Goodluck with the Samsung S.
Just posted in the MT3GS defective thread: this might be a larger defect than just the Slides. There's a bunch of Evo people talking about the same issue with their phones on the htc forums and the androidforums: glass is separating due to potentially faulty adhesive.

Who's getting a Galaxy S? I'm not.
I don't think the light leaks are as big an issue as I thought, so long as the adhesive seal between the digitizer and LCD is intact there shouldn't be any way for dust to get into the screen.
Hey, what kind is and where did you get that case? Looks cool!

Thats the one offered by tmobile, black back, chrome front bezel. Has a removable belt clip, so that is why you see a little circle in the middle.
I had this happen to the first slide I picked up but luckily I noticed it fairly quick and took it back the very next day. Now the replacement I have is having the same issue, granted it's 1 spec of dust under the screen but I know it will get worse with time and I'm debating on whether or not I will just return it and go back to my G1.
Mine has it now too! Just noticed it in the sun on the way into work - Mine is going to get swapped out today too...
This is a major drag!!!
My nexus has this same issue so do many others. Some people are having a hard time getting HTC to replace because of unlocked bootloaders. On the n1 the bottom left corner of the screen feels like it is not glued down all the way and dust goes under. Some are using a hair dryer to warm up the corner and pushing down on the screen to help it glue down all the way. HTC fixed mine and then when I got it back the screen was even more loose and I have more dust now than before. I'm going to wait longer before I send it back again. Hopefully this mts doesn't start doing the same thing.
I started a thread about this over in the tmo forums. It appears that it has gotten the attention of a moderator over there. If you would like to add your story to it please feel free as well as post a picture or two of the dust your screen has trapped.
Apparently I can't post links because my account hasn't been verified. The thread isn't too hard to find over there, promise.

holy crap stop hiding your phone in the litter box!
If you turn the back light off and shine a flashlight at the screen at an angle you see this very well!
Here is mine:
I don't work in a dusty environment either, probably from my pocket. Plastic pocket protectors anyone??
Getting out of the car, I made an awkward off-balance flailing motion with my arm, and clumsily flung my Galaxy Note down firmly onto a rock in the parking lot. It make a sick little "kich" sound...

I picked it up, and found that the screen under the glass still was undamaged, and the touch interface performed as perfectly as before. I found replacement glass online for ~$20, and assumed I could replace the glass alone...
Unfortunately, I was informed that the Galaxy series of OLED pannels is laminated to the glass, and I would require the entire screen assembly. This was $225 shipped.
I still had hope I may be able to just replace the glass, but now that I had both part options available, I felt I had strong odds I would end up with a fixed device, and I began to dig in.
Remove the back cover, batter, SIM, and uSD cards.
Using a #0 philips screw driver I removed the 9 screws from under the back cover, and started prying on the two halves. Its turns out, the whole back half of the case is 1 piece, and where I was trying to pry (where you would pry if it was a Galaxy S2) is NOT the place it can split, and you need to pry between the crome lip of the case and the outside of the glass' bezel. I found starting from a bottom side corner worked best, and I could work my thumbnail around popping the little clips as I went. I started the gap in the seam very gently with a pocket knife as a pry tool.
::::: The uUSB port area needs special attention to pry it back so it slips over the protrusion! ::::
In about 5 minutes of careful edging my way around, it was pried free.
There were 3-4 little black screws that are also #0 phillips to free the mobo. It's TINY! Blows my mind to think of all the computing and communication power that is crammed into this tiny little ~10gram PCB.
Remove each of the little ribbon cable connectors by prying up on the edge with your finger nail (there are 5-6 of them I think), and a single coaxial cable connector near the corner where the thin arm intercepts the upper rectangle of PCB. I missed that cable on my first try, and thank God I was being gentle, as I nearly tore it before I saw it was still connected.
Now we can see the guts of the MoBo. Too bad the pictures are such a crappy quality from using a POS Nokia E71 to take them...
So, the job isn't over yet, and the hard part is next... Prying the glass/display panel assembly out of the bezel assembly. It is not as easy as it looks.
I do not think my method was the best approach, but it got the job done. If someone has a better method, it would be great to share it.
I first warmed the glass with a hair dryer, than began looking for a place I could pry, not entirely sure of where or how it comes apart. It turns out, the glass has to lift up out of bezel plastic area, and it's got big thick pads of adhesive strip at the top and bottom edge.
After much tail-chasing in working my way around with the exacto-knife, I realized that I was getting nowhere, as the adhesive would re-adhere the moment I pulled the blade out to work on the next area... So, I decided I would need something to act as a shim to keep the area I had pried away from re-attaching at I moved forward. I found the spare blades in my exacto-knife kit worked perfectly for this.
Eventually it gave way! Woot! When it finally released, the OLED panel delaminated from the glass, and broke into about 8 chunks, and ended my hope of replacing just the glass portion alone. I think if someone were exceptionally careful, good adhesive heating, good careful thin shim material application, they MIGHT be able to replace just the glass portion alone and not break the OLED panel. This would allow breaking the glass to actually only cost $20 if you were some sort of wizard who could de-bond the panel and other things from the glass without breaking them.
So, now that my broken screen/glass is out, I flip it over and compare it with the new one... Umm!! WTF?? The old one has a connector my new one doesn't! Sh*t!!! At this point I'm thinking I might be $1,000usd into a device that isn't going to work.
So, I'm thinking I've got nothing to lose, so I start pealing away at the layers near that connector, hoping for a miracle. Things aren't looking good.
I keep pealing away, and hey! I got down deep enough that it's pealing that thing off with the connector! Tearing away some foam-like adhesive as it goes.
Hooray! I've got some hope now! I stick that thing to the back of the new OLED panel. The glue doesn't stick anymore at all, so it's more like setting it in place and trying to line it up as best as possible. I'm not really thinking it's going to work at this point...
But I put everything back together in the reverse order of taking it apart, and WOOT!!! It all works!!! The digitizer works perfectly even though it's not even adhered to the back, and it's positional accuracy is perfect too!! I don't know how that's even possible, but it works perfect!
No dead pixels or bad spots on the screen, and not even a scratch or knick anywhere on the phone. I'm VERY VERY HAPPY!!!
Any pictures of your finished product?
Good work, sounds like a traumatic experience!
I had something very similar with my s2, dropped on a rock, broke the glass but not the screen. bought glass off ebay but couldn't separate broken glass from screen. I ended up taking it to a samsung service center who charged me £50 to replace the glass using my Ebay part which proved the glass can be replaced with right tools and technique.

Yep!
They look awful though because they are taken on this damn Nokia E71 phone that makes me want to throw it on the ground and stomp it everytime I have to use it's awful camera, and awful interface to use the camera, and awful procedure for getting pics off it... lol I sadly had to buy it just to get it's unlocked SIM card so I could run my Note off a super cheap $40 a month unlimited everything plan with no contract.
I changed mine about a week ago and almost cried when i seen that connector on the back of the broken screen. I thought i had cut something when i didnt see it attached by a connector. Then i thought about the stylus connection and bam.
I did this at 3am when i couldnt sleep without guide.

Just how fragile is the Note?
I've had the Dell Streak 5 for 15 months and have just this evening suffered my 7th (seventh - not a typo) broken screen. it fell from approximately 12 inches on to a rug, onto its corner and the lcd has leaked.
My upgrade date is Friday so i'm going to suffer half a screen for a week, but i love the size of the streak and the only thing close to it is the Note, however i don't want another phone that is going to break at the slightest knock like the streak.
Any advice would be great!

Its pretty tough. Ive had my note about 6 weeks and dropped it about 6 times. Most recently this afternoon it fell about 4 feet to the ground out of my jacket pocket. It fell on concrete and luckily it seems perfectly fine.
I have a cheapo screen protector and a cheap TPU case off amazon.

Best way to avoid breaks is, dont drop your phone. I literally sleep on my phone 5 out of 7 days. Drop it a couple times a week from waist and barely ever got a scratch. But when my 235 pound body wedge my phone between me and my car door it finally cracked after 3 months of use.
The phone can take a beating but you should protect your phone as best as you can. And if your like me, and walk around with a naked phone, you have to be able to deal with the consequences of damage. Cant blame anyone but yourself. Scratches and cracked screens are not self inflicted, its user error.

Hello everyone,
Like many of you, I ended up breaking my back glass of new Nexus 4. But being from India finding a replacement wasn't easy and if it was possible it wasn't cheap at all. So I did loads research and found just back glass lens only for cheap ($25 to India from China with free shipping) delivery time was fast got it within 10 days. I thought its cheap so its worth taking a risk. I was unable to find any guide online to replace just glass so I thought I'll make one here to help others out.
Requirement:
Back glass lens only replacement.

T5 screw driver and few other tools to remove glass from back (As shown in picture below)
Adhesives remover, I used nail polish remover as I had nothing else and at least for me it worked well.
Adhesives to stick new glass on back, I used SYNTHETIC RUBBER BASED ADHESIVE as I had nothing else. But I suggest find something better than this.
Cover yourself properly(full pants, full sleeves shirt or tshirt, glooves, piece of cloth to cover your mouth and if possible eye gear too (You'll need this to protect yourself from small glass particles and glass dust) Basically cover yourself as much as you can, if you don't like to be in mess like me.
This is what removed glass looks like.
LEAST 2-3 HOURS of your time.
PS: You should do this in safe environment, glass is so thin while removing it can cause you serious harm(cuts, can fly into your eyes or mouth) It becomes powder form so if you're not careful you'll be left with glass dust all over you. Also Make sure NO children are around when you do this.
Lets get started.
1. You'll need to remove back door from nexus 4. You can either google how to do that or goto following link for xda guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257896
2. Wireless charging coil and speaker grill is directly attached to glass. So you'll have to remove speaker grill first before removing glass from back and if possible charging coil too, if not you can remove it later like it did.
3. Now you can start removing glass out from where its broken or like me you can look under back door and you'll find 2 holes in upper part. Using something sharp punch through them. You can start from there then. Also make sure you don't use excessive force as plastic used in door is really weak, it can crack or break easily. So always support the part of door with finger from below while you're removing glass on top of it. This took me almost 1 and half hour to get this done. It will take time initially and will be hard but will get faster and easier as you'll get used to it. I removed glass from border of case and corners as it has somewhat plastic support below and left the glass on coil for last as its very delicate.
4. If you did as I did in pictures, you'll be left with charging coil and glass on it. I removed charging coil at this point from back door and removed glass really carefully. Removing glass from coil alone took me an hour. You can see some part of plastic protection of coil is removed while scrapping glass out, though I'm sure its still working fine, but still be really be careful while doing it. After done this is what you'll be left with.
5. Use Adhesives remover (in my case nail polish remover) to clean back door and charging coil. This is really important, as you need no residue left on it before putting new glass on. This is what it looked like after cleaning it.
6. After its all clean, Use Adhesive you chose and apply if on back door evenly and fit glass on it. if its rubber based like one i used let it dry for a bit before fitting glass on it. As rubber based ones takes time to dry. I did not apply adhesive on charging coil as some of its plastic protection was removed so I didn't wanted to take any chances. So I stick glass on back without charging coil and this is end result.
7. Now my back is ready, I stick speaker grill back on it and I just put charging coil on glass back without adhesive I didn't wanted it to be stuck with glass again as incase glass breaks again its pain in a** to remove it from glass. So i just place it in its place and put my phone back together again.
8. My phone is working perfectly fine now, fitting is not as original but that's cause of Adhesives I used. If you use better it will be just as brand new.
Below are few things you should keep in mind before doing this.
It took me least 3-4 hours to do this, was it all worth the pain? I was getting just a back without nfc and wireless charging for $75 shipped to India and original back door replacement with all equipment for $100+ neither were worth according to me and I didn't wanted to spend so much money on it either. I had back screen guard on when it fell, So all broken glass was behind guard and I further sealed it with clear tape so glass wasn't going anywhere and further it was in case. So no one could even see its broken. I fixed it cause I might be selling this phone to replace with Nexus 5 incase its worth an upgrade. Also I bought phone from USA as I was never gonna claim Warranty either so thinking if this will void warranty or not wasn't something I had to worry about. So making phone as good as new for $25 it was money well spent. Infact you can get this glass lens cheaper than what I spent depending on country you live it. Also there is risk to break the back door itself as its fragile. So please consider everything before you even try this. If you're careful enough I don't think you'll have problem doing this fix.
My phone is working perfectly fine now, tested everything besides wireless charging as I don't have wireless charger but nfc and all are working just fine.
I got my replacement from china and it came well packed thought should share with you guys incase you are wondering if its safe to get something so delicate from china.
If you have any questions feel free to ask. I'll try to help as much as I can. Hope this helpful to people. Good Luck with your repair

Hi
So here I am, it just happened to me, the back cover of my Z2 self cracked ! I left it on a shelf, inside it's pouch (Adore June case), and when I took it a few minutes later, the back was all cracked.
The phone didn't fell, nio shock at all, nothing. Temperature was ambiant, about 20°c, without any big variations.
So I'd say, for a piece a of technology I bought exactly 555 € 2 month ago, it is just unbelievable, unacceptable !
It was my first Sony phone, and it will be the very last.
Other than that, I was really satisfied with it.....until it decides to harm itself !
Now the good part of the story is, when I contacted the seller, Purnima Digital, they oriented me to their warranty service, who reacted very well and fast. I was about to send them the phone, for free, for an expertise, but when I called them, they advised me to wait, because they already had hundreds of Z2 with the same issue, and for now Sony hadn't accepted to repair under warranty !!!!
They told me they were negotiating with Sony, with the help of a consumers association, to make Sony accept their production deffective issues.
So voilà my story with Sony. I will keep you informed about the outcome, hopefully Sony will take their responsibility.
As soon as I will have my Z2 repaired, first thing I will sell it. And never again I will hear about Xperia phones !
I have a Z2 Tablet, which for now is very well and doesn't seem to want to Crack it self,.....
I have a IPhone 5s for the work, and i will stick to it now. no matter what we think about Apple vs Android, at least I will not have these problems with the 5s.
Good luck with yours !

I think you had bad luck my friend,my Z2 is without any gaps and any other problems so only bad luck.

I'm perfectly happy with my Z2 that I bought right after it was released in my country in May. I have had no issues with it whatsoever and it's still without a scratch even without a case. That being said, if you have accidentally left your phone in direct sunlight it could cause the backplate to crack due to heat. If that is not the case then you've been really unlucky and for that I empathize with you. Good luck with your phone and whatever you choose to do with it if/when you get it back.
In that case here is the next question..what kind of glass is the back + the front one? It would be nice if they start making dragontrail glass for the back at least... :/ Ive heard that many Z Z1 Z2 users suffer that problem.Im quite affraid for mine too :/
Now people will start to understand why anti shatter film was important.

Yep ; FYI, i had put on the back the NILKIN plastic film provided when you purchase the Tempered glass pack for the front panel....i was sure the back didn't need a tempered glass as well, and i was confident the plastic one would be OK, knowing the phone will be in a case...
Well now i know that it was not sufficent at all.
It was surely bad luck for me with this unit, even if there are many other users in the same position, but anyway i advise you all to put a tempered glass protection on the back as well.
The anti shatter film was better than any tempered glass protection.
Due to it's malleability impacts get softened.
Replacing the back is pretty cheap <$20 and easy though. Good thing it's not the front...Cost me 100 to buy a replacement LCD.
My screen self cracked yesterday.
After about 30 minutes I had an rma filed with a label on the way, hopefully the techs can see this wasn't an issue of "accidental damage " instead a fault in the design.
Hoping it's fixed and sent back!

My screen cracked itself, too - Sony Germany refused the warranty!
I hope they will get this sorted, soon! It's unacceptable!!
My Z2 has faulty back cover also. It's not cracked, but is not glued properly so the edge near the USB port kinda pops out. I can press and it sticks back but then it pops out again after a while. I doubt it's waterproof. The phone is less than one month old.

This is that kind of phone that needs a case 100% if you want it to be protected and safe for a longer period of time. ( I am from that kind of persons that are using the phone naked (its a damn Z series..u took the phone for its classy look too,but here i can't risk anymore :/ )) Screen protectors from both sides wont save it too.Ive read alot and..too much ppl complaining from cracked Z2s.Too sad that Sony didn't put a Dragontrail/Corning Gorilla..front and back glass.
The back glass on mine self-cracked. It has been in a case since an hour after I received the phone. It sits most of the day on my desk at work, or on the kitchen bench at home. Last week I discovered a single crack across the back panel.
I took it to the Telstra shop and they said Sony will not accept warranty claims for physical damage. I am going to follow up with Sony as this sounds ridiculous. The phone is not fit for purpose. None of the smartphones nor PDAs I have had (going back 14 years now) have ever suffered any damage or cracks.

it doesn't??? OMG that sucks!!! even an original Sony one?
Had my Z2 self crack also the other day... used it and it was fine, checked back half an hour later and the screen was shattered. The shatter pattern is very similar to the pics posted at the beginning of this thread except mine is on the digitizer. It's obviously not from an impact/drop (I know this because I didn't drop it and the chassis is unmarked) but more so because of the pattern of the crack, no bullseye or spiderweb. Even more so because the phone wasn't moved during the time when it cracked....
Needless to say I was extremely annoyed, luckily I had the in box screen protector on so it didn't leave shards of glass all over the place. Just need to decide what to get next, does seem like this is an issue with only a few Z2's, my gf and sister have z2's which theyve dropped god knows how many times and their glass is unmarked, mine on the other hand has never been dropped. Anyway not sure whether to just wait for the Z3 instead of getting another Z2 (don't think I could live without a waterproof phone so that eliminates pretty much everything apart from Sony)
I am from Croatia. My first Z2 was foulty too. It was heating quickly, back glass cracked, wather demaged microfon and wather was all around camera. At first after 5 days I sent it service repair refused to change the phone claiming that this was physical damage. Then I asked for explanation and yelled on them and then they called me after 3 weeks to tell me that they are going to give me new one after long consultation with Sony in Europe.
With this new Z2 I don't have any problems and no quick heating.
All,
I've noticed a startling trend by the resellers of cell phones for the S7 Active.
The S7 Active has a two-layer screen - the top layer is supposed to be replaceable if it crackes, thereby saving you a expensive repair.
Unfortunately, these scrupulous resellers are removing this second layer, exposing the screen itself, which is much more fragile.
You can tell this in listings by looking to see if the earpiece speaker and buttons look "raised" in the pictures provided. They should be nearly flush if the second layer piece is in place.
For example, Swappa has a seller in NY right now that is selling "mint" S7 Actives, and all of his phones have the second layer of the screen removed. Samsung no longer sells this second layer, so you would have to put down a tempered layer to help protect the screen, and even then there are no guarantees it will provide the proper protection.
Buyer beware, just a FYI.
Chris
I just bought one of these and I can confirm that the outer screen is removed. I'm returning it now and will update with what the seller has to say. I wish I had your sharp eye and noticed this in the pictures, looking back it is noticeable.
I bought it 8 days ago. Didn't even notice it. I'm. Just going to buy a tempered glass above it. Too lazy to deal with it now, I'm overall satisfied with the phone.
That's good to be aware of, but not really a deal breaker, or wouldn't be for me. I leveraged the tendency of the factory screen protector to scratch to purchase a cheap phone off e-bay. I'd find the one with the worst looking screen with okay looking everything else then when I got the phone, removed the plastic layer and replaced it with glass. That was a year ago and I've been happy ever since.
My point is that those thick plastic protectors would look like crap not long after purchase so you are better without them. The glass is still gorilla, the edges of the screen are raised into a lip to protect it and you can add a sacrificial glass protector yourself. If the price is cheap, I'd buy one.
I think it all comes down to what your expectations are of "like new" or "mint". Personally, I would want the factory second layer that has the proper material for protection. I returned a phone on eBay as it was listed as brand new - literally "new in box". Lots of resellers out there taking advantage.
missing layer
Thanks for the heads up. I wouldn't have known any better if I hadn't come across this post. I bought one off ebay from the seller emb-phones which shipped out of Brooklyn, New York. I can also confirm the phone is missing the second layer mentioned in this first post of this forum. I would like you share pics but i guess i haven't hit the 10 post requirement yet :/. I'll come back and figure out a way to post pics some other time.
Qualitycells on Swappa is selling their Mint condition S7 Actives without the factory protector. I've contacted them about my device, not really hopeful that they will do anything though.

I returned the phone I received without the outer screen. My concern is it may affect the water-proofing and it is against Swappa rules to sell a modified phone. They should at least admit it and let the buyer make an informed decision. I asked "QualityCells" if they could provide an unmodified phone and they could/would not. They did give me a full refund and paid return shipping. Unfortunately Swappa did not seem interested that one of their sellers is doing this. It wasted a lot of my time.
Here's an example.

Discussion with ebay seller about this issue...
Thanks for bringing this to light; I recently bought an S7 Active from an eBay seller much like emb-phones (in this case syncelectronic), and found that the screen layer had indeed been removed. At least the glass underneath was in perfect condition! I brought this to their attention and they claimed to not realize this as they buy them at auction in quantity; they asked what they can do and I said I wanted them to refund me $11.99 so I can get a tempered glass protector to install in place of the polycarbonate that was removed, and that they change their ad to reflect that this protective layer has been removed.
Other than that, the phone was indeed in the condition described, and I would have put a screen protector on anyway, but I DO wish the ad reflected that actual situation, so we will see what they come back with.
I got one also from eBay, i paid $110 for it with NEW screen thats missing the second layer but hey, it works fine, i've added the tempered glass on top and a discrete cover and its a great phone.. Sure u have to be careful about dropping it but isnt that with 99% of phones these days? I tried finding a OEM replacement screen for this phone but no luck and the screen is the phone so if you get a pink line or 'store display model' shadow burn in then the phone is garbage. I really liked my S5 Active, its smaller and screen size is the same as S7 but unfortunately, it stops on 6.0.
To sum this up, its a hit or miss with these, if the seller is honest and the LCD is clean, then you get a great phone for a tenth of its original price. My S7 Active works well so far, i work outside and sweat a lot here in Florida and the phone is exposed to sand and lots of moist sweat and no issues for the past 4 months, even with the 1/2 screen on it.
can we see pictures of what you mean?
no ****... look at what I found...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4LUgs5jYkI
I believe when I bought mine, it was in mine shame... but had a layer missing. No worries- tampered glass protector solves the problem.
Interesting... Just bought an S7 Active on eBay for $60, let's see if it has the layer...
LCD + Digitizer (Gorilla Glass 4) + Protective Polycarbonate Layer!
Buy a phone with a scratched poly layer, remove it, add a 9H screen protector.
This isn't rocket science.
Geeesh ... Panic and mayhem over a stupid poly layer ..... S8 Active has the same treatment, and Gorilla Glass 5.
https://www.cio.com/article/3079219/hardware/samsungs-new-water-resistant-galaxy-s7-active-survives-severe-crash-tests.html
https://www.slashgear.com/galaxy-s8-active-has-a-plastic-screen-protector-on-top-of-gorilla-glass-25516999/
You don't get it. It isn't "panic" about missing a screen protector, it's misleading the buyer. That is why I posted this months ago.
If a screen layer was originally removed, it was either cracked or scratched beyond belief. To me, that means the phone had a rough life.
If you spend $50 on a S7 active and the layer is missing, I wouldn't care. But if a seller advertises "NEW" (unused) old stock, and that layer is missing, that is a problem. THAT is why I posted this.
Have a great day, UnableToResetOldProfile.

Thank you for your insight!
I recently bought a refurbished device that was advertised as having a perfect 10/10 screen, but is clearly missing the outer layer, and the screen is showing random pink line as well that comes and go. Without your post, I would have I never understood how the LCD could have been damaged while the screen doesn't shows any scratches at all. Contacting them now for a replacement now!
