Upgrade to marshmallow with OD5 bootloader - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking to upgrade to pf4 (with root). I'm currently on OG5, with the bootloader on OD5. I know a while back it was suggested not to upgrade the bootloader, as I could downgrade. Is it advisable at this time to flash (with fireflash or safestrap), or is there some other way that keeps the bootloader at OD5 (or do we care anymore)? Unfortunately I have a CID of 11 .

MM, like LP, requires a bootloader update so you have to choose if you want to update and never downgrade to KK again or keep the option to downgrade to KK but never be able to upgrade to MM.

Not able to downgrade to kitkat

So I need help. I tried to downgrade from lollipop oe1 to kitkat nk2 but every time I try to flash the firmware with Odin it says failed and my phone says fusion 2 < binary 1. Any way to fix this?
Edit: ok so after doing some research I found out verizon chose to mega lock bootloader with the oe1 update and you have no choice wether to take the update or not, but anyway the update madness it so you cannot downgrade or root.
So I was wondering if I can just flash the od5 bootloader in Odin and that would just just allow me to downgrade? Idk
Nope you are locked out un-rootable. You may very well brick your phone even trying.

I337UCUGOC3 bootloader locked, want to update to I337UCUGOK2 to unlock bootloader

I hit on UPDATE on the phone for an OTA update but it only says UNABLE TO CONNECT AT&T SERVER. When I bought it, it had 5.0.1 (I337UCUGOC3) out of the box. Searching on internet says that is bootloader locked (so I cant do anything).
- Can I Update to I337UCUGOK2 and bootloader will be unlocked (I mean, will I be able to do it)?
- Does anyone know where can I grab I337UCUGOK2 for offline install and is it ODIN safe to update it (remember I have I337UCUGOC3 bootloader locked)?
please help
Once the bootloader is locked, it will always be locked until someone finds a way to unlock it. Updating the bootloader will not allow it to be unlocked.

Unlocking/exploiting the bootloader for the AT&T is still in process, I think.
Bootloader locked means you can not install custom recovery like TWRP, CWM or custom kernel. You can still root, you can still use odin and you can still install custom rom using either safestrp or flashfire.
Here is the thread explaining how to upgrade stock or rooted stock roms.
The explanation starts from installation of NB1 firmware so that you can easily root the phone by using twolroot.
If you do not care for the root you can start reading from the step 2 "Flash update in stock recovery"
Since you are on OC3, you need OC3 to OC4 and OC4 to OK2 files to get OK2.
help... I want to RMA it

Everywhere says I need a kitkat rom as base.
My s4 came with 5.0.1 with OC3 and bootloader locked out of the box. I tried some post where says I can flash TWRP and CWM but my phone stucked on bootloops. Then I managed to get back to stock rom and now when I want to turn it on it says " SAMSUNG (and lower on the screen) Custom"
Camera began to fail and I want to return it as RMA but I was looking to reset the flash counter but every post I read is that OC3 bootloader locked users are just doomed.
Do you know a method that I can do for reset that counter?
Camera dont focus anymore and I tried all the posts about safemode, etc.

Flashing TWRP and CWM is for the AT&T S4 with older bootloader (MDL, MDB). After that two firmware versions the bootloader is locked.
For AT&T S4 the last full firmware released is NB1. After that they released incremental updates via OTA. That is why you need kitkat (NB1) as base.
For NB1, Muniz uploaded two firmwares. One is the stock and the other is rootable stock. Try the stock one and see you still have the custom symbol.
To reset the counter, there is an app calls Triangle away by Chainfire. However, it does not work on AT&T S4 with locked bootloader.
Trying Odin-Stock NB1

I'm on 4.4.2 NB1, flash counter back to normal but still bootloader locked
Now I have to go back to OC3 to RMA it.
OTA does nothing, smartswitch shows no updates neither kies.
I'll have to Odin it back to OC3
Can I have some help?
And Success. I'm back on stock OC3 no root.
time to RMA
- camera still doesn't focus
- boot screen is back to normal but when in odin mode the counter shows 0x1
- sometimes shows "sim card could not be detected" or similar messages and force me to restart the phone (just happend 2 times until now, never happend before)
I followed this thread

Can I still be rooted if I flash firmware 6.0.1?

I'm on G900VVRU2BPB1 and I believe my bootloader is locked as I did root my phone and the samsung unlock app did not unlock my bootloader. I am rooted and I am wondering, there a way for me to go to MM and keep root? Or am I stuck at LP? If I read the information correctly, I am stuck at LP if I want to keep root correct?
If you're CID 11 the bootloader cannot be unlocked. Also there is no root method as of now for marshmallow. You must flash back to PB1 (lollipop) and root and unlock if possible.

CID=15 what bootloader/firmware actions are irreversible?

Right now I have two CID 15 G900Vs with PB1 rooted 5.0 firmware and OD5 bootloader. I'd like to use the spare to try out MM 6.0.1 rooted using the unlock procedure.
I know that loading a post-OD5 stock bootloader is irreversible. If I use the procedure here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...t/rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909
to install an unlocked bootloader, is that an irreversible change? Will I be unable to go back to an earlier (OD5) bootloader or firmware after the unlock procedure?
If I use this procedure:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/update-qi2-t3688046
and install
Developer Bootloader Friendly/No Aboot No-Wipe Firmware:
G900VVRU2DQI2_G900VVZW2DQI2_G900VVRU2DQI2_HOME_No_ Aboot.tar.md5.zip
will I trip a KNOX flag or set any fuses or otherwise do anything that cannot be undone? I'd love to play with this stuff but want to make sure I can back it out if necessary.
Thanks,
Mike

Oreo to Nougat/MM

Can we downgrade oreo to nougat or marshmallow without any issues ?
If you do downgrade your stock (i.e. Motorola) firmware, there's a few things to bear in mind:
1) you will need an unlocked bootloader to downgrade firmware. The process of unlocking your bootloader will erase your device, so back up accordingly. If your SD card is adopted as internal storage, the encryption key for your SD card will be erased too. You'll lose your SD card data. Also, you will not be able to lock your bootloader unless you flash the latest stock firmware again (if you're on Oreo firmware, you can only use Oreo firmware)
2) downgrading is usually straightforward. However, you will not be able to downgrade your bootloader and GPT. For this reason, do not use OTA updates whilst downgraded with stock firmware. You'll likely hard brick your device.
3) instead of flashing the stock firmware, you could alternatively unlock your bootloader and then try the TWRP flashable firmwares https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/rom-oreo-8-1-0-soak-test-t3873367 you will need the TWRP recovery, however TWRP flashables might be safer to use to downgrade than flashing stock firmwares.
