6 hours solid later (yes, I was a little over the top but i didnt wanna brick my baby). I have completed upgrading my device to 6.0. Haven't done whatever the TWRP thing is yet or rooted my phone either.
My device build number is ALE-L21
It states in the "About phone" section that I do in fact have EMUI 4.0 and Android version 6.0.
I see most are having issues with a other things BUT!? MY issue is the themes that aren't working properly, like i can download all of them but when i hit a apply it does the apply load thing and then drops me straight back on homescreen. Even customization has been hit and miss. Rebooted after each change and everything yet nothing works... this is my first time delving this deep into phones before and i feel i might have stuffed something up :/
Also since going through this process i notice the the boot screen at shut down no longer appears.. maybe that is supposed to be that way maybe not.. dunno.. I am going to perform a backup to HIsuite and will do a factory reset to see how that goes...
If i factory reset before doing the TWRP thing.. will i be essentially starting from scratch?
So as I apparently have installed the dual sim Firmware, i don't imagine there being any major issues with that. I read that most P8 lites got released with dual ports but one was disabled. However, I should not. I had to do every update manually. Even now it still says i am capped at B551, when i am ready people for B570 and all that... I don't know what to do about that, maybe that'll be the fix for my themes that i need. I also noted that the region for the 6.0 firmware was for Europe i believe, I live in new zealand and this still worked for my phone. Taken calls and texts since the upgrade perfectly fine.... just them themes are grinding on me... gotta get it right.. i hear some are literally just dumping the .hwt files straight into the memory.. i don't feel that's wise...
I had same Issue in MM but I went back to 5.0.1 because Snapchat recording is very slow(lag) in MM and I don't know why.
The way I fixed the themes things was applying the Obsidian(magazine) theme that comes with the update. Was the only one that works for me, then you can put yours and it should works, at least works for me.
Btw, sorry for bad english
Actually it's funny that you bring up Snapchat. See prior to updating I was receiving 0 notifications from any social media based app, Snapchat included. Everything was running slow and it was generally unpleasant. It seems like things run smoother now, aside from games that is; games are absolutely terrible to play now.
I have tried lots of different ideas in regards to the theme issue. It seems that nothing works, so I have had to settle for this nice blue wallpaper and lock screen combo. Even before the big update I was having troubles with themes but now it's much worse.
Ehhh bad English is still better than no English. We couldn't even converse if you didn't speak it so thank you for trying

Hmm, can you set a lockscreen wallpaper? I don't. I can set the home screen and that change the lockscreen too. That was the way I noticed the bug
Honestly... I don't really have much choice... if I choose the wallpaper to be one thing and the lock screen another... it just chooses one and they both have the same... it's so weird.

Yeah, it only let you change the home screen wallpaper!
You tried to set the obsidian theme?? It should work
OKAY, OKAY, OKAY!!!
Before I left to go shopping a couple of hours back these themes would not work with me. I'm calling shenanigans on this. After trialing Obsidian like you suggested, they were all working properly. However it seems to be really delicate. I started customizing it a whole lot and it broke again... So nice to know that it does actually work.
Also interesting was the fact that before I tried obsidian, the app icon pack was vanilla android rather than EMUI pack.... curious...
thanks for the headsup on that one mate. Should have listened to ya sooner.
P.S. I tried out snapchat, forgot i had it... really bad on 6.0... I am glad I don't use it much...
Damn, Idk you should try to go back LP and updating another version. Which build are you on?
And about Snapchat and performance, I live in Costa Rica, I'm not even in Europe haha
But everything works fine, sms, calls, etc. The phone is faster and the apps are good. The build is stable and smooth. The only *****ng problem I got is when I try to record a video in Snapchat, it goes like 1fps, very laggy and not take even a decent video. This happens in LP when you put a lens and try to record, but here in MM you can't record anything. The camera app goes well too. It's a Snapchat problem

That's another thing... I still haven't found a tutorial I can actually understand to teach me how to roll back my phone to LP lol
So the build I am using is B551. I got this build from this link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/general/mega-thread-root-unbricking-updating-t3400994
Pretty straight forward instructions, had a bit of trouble trying to upgrade to 6.0 but I figured it out lol
What build you on?
There's a transition update i downloaded it from huawei website. You make local update an then update 5.0.1 build.
Or you can flash B052 vía fastboot.
And i'm sorry, i'm in LP right now, works better for me, im not going to MM anymore at least for now
It's a waste of time.
I hope you can make it works

Hey,
I've had my Unlocked European HTC Hero since the first week it was released. Even though there was quite a delay in the release of 2.1 (non rooted), I'm pretty happy. Some interesting things:
1) I received the OTA notification at a time when I did not want to update so I chose to "update later." In order to force the update later, I set the clock forward as people suggested. That worked just fine and the phone updated no problem. However, the time was set back to 1980. It was at that point I noticed the Market wasn't working. Once I set the clock back to real time, it did work. Just a note in case you did that.
2) I was actually surprised that almost everything was retained during the upgrade. I have previously flashed with some of the 1.5 Roms (official only) and it always wiped out everything. Even all my apps remained installed, though quite a few needed updates
3) FINALLY the compass works in Google Maps. When the Hero first came out everyone complained that the iPhone compass worked (with Gmaps) but not on Android. I must have missed the announcement that it was now working on Android and what an awesome surprise.
4) FINALLY we have Google search by voice. I love it. However, I understand that you are supposed to be able to use voice as input for any text box (composing email, sms, etc). How do you do that? There is no microphone button available. Do I need an app?
5) Google navigation works like a charm although it seems a bit laggy. Sometimes I have already turned before the map moves. Still - very slick. One question: Where is Car Home?
6) I though there was supposed to be a nifty new 3D Gallery like Cool Iris. Where is that?
7) Voice Search is al little strange to me. The window with results is not really a browser. When you click on a result, it opens in a new window, which is nice. But , how do you get back to the search results? It is not one of the open windows?
All in all, pretty cool stuff.
5)car home is an AOSP thing, so it is not available on sense roms. instead you get an app called "navigator" which is similar.
6) Gallery 3d is also AOSP, and not in htc sense roms. It is however in pretty much all custom sense roms, such as villain 12.
I used the goldcard image to downgrade my tmobile and now have upgraded to official 2.1 rom. I have to say i'm quite underwhelmed with the upgrade. Google navigation is nice but does lag a little. I have to admit my hero does not appear much snappier than when it was running 1.5. On the plus side I don't have to see the annoying tmobile logo when the phone boots up.
CyberWalrus,
I'm not sure I understand AOSP? You mean it is a choice to not include those features?
You mentioned an app called "Navigator." I don't see that anywhere.

stock, unmodified, pure android. The one that the nexus one, the G1, and the magic run. Gallery and Car home are features of AOSP android
HTC roms have HTC sense android. they dont have gallery 3d because htc presumably thinks its own "photos" app is better.
I am running villain 12, rather than the stock htc rom, so I have gallery 3d ported over anyway.
But the navigator app may be from the desire, and therefore only available on custom roms.
Seriously none of you are freaked out by the new bootscreen...

Can anyone help me with issue 4? How do I use voice input for any text box?
AFAIK you can choose it as a keyboard type.
settings -> locale&text -> Touch Input -> keyboard types
But I think there is a button on the keyboard, which is to change settings. You could use that to change keyboard type.
But none of the keyboard types are "voice" or anything like that.

I seem to remember that was one of the things that HTC were leaving out of their roms. Not sure if anyone on 2.1 on any htc handsets has it.
There may be an apk kicking around for it , but again, this is from a distant memory since it wasn't relevant for me as 2.anything was a distant dream for me at the time.

What boot screen is that? Where can I download the full version? Also, the bear seems to be a small mod right? Where can I get the original version?
You people looking for voice input in every textbox, you can install the HTC_IME Mod for that, it has the voice input button.
I'm also looking for the Navigation app, can't find it anywhere... Suggestions?
Sorry about the double post...
Nazgulled you know what that bear stands for, right?
I suggest you not to put that onto your phone...
Not really, what does it mean?
But what about the original, without the bear?
He is called a Pedobear.
But DO NOT google it at work.

there's no keyboard calibration on my Asian Hero. email HTC support to check why and I was informed that this was really meant and no reason was given why it was removed. now i'm wondering how I can recalibrate my keyboard
This is still a work in progress but pretty much everything I can test works.
I'll work on the OP later but I've been asked about it a lot so thought I'd post it for you guys to play with as you wish.

I can't get past the setup wizard. I tap the droid, and it keeps telling me that setup wizard has stopped, then it goes right back to touch the android to begin
E: got past the setup wizard. I forgot about touching the four corners to bypass it. gonna test this out now.
hey hey! see you guys arent dead yet lol
great to see you got a cm9 port up and running, keep up the good work
Damn, just in time for jelly bean! I'll check this out soon!
I started from scratch again, just to make sure I didn't do something funny the first time I installed it. So far I've found Setup wizard will not work, so it has to be bypassed in order to start doing anything. Calendar will not show anything. It claims it is sync'd in accounts, but in the calendar app itself, nothing shows up. It doesn't show any calendars listed under the account in settings either.
It looks pretty sharp, however, and seems to be fairly full featured for a brand new 'WIP"
E: Sounds are very quiet, even at max volume. I can barely hear ringtones/alarms, etc in a quiet room.
Sounds awesome. I'll try it out ASAP.
It's great have a camera that will focus!! A few things I found though, were that while the camera would switch to camcorder (which is awesome!), it wouldn't record. Also, the home button doesn't work.

Thanks for the report on what works and what doesn't. Any other major observations?
camcorder preview works, but its due to camera.msm7k.so in /lib/hw that is only built right now to take pictures and display preview. this will hopefully be fixed in the future easily as htc wildfire (buzz) has camcorder working, so we will have to see what erwinp did to get it working.
Yay

I haven't played with it too much, but it seems just a tick slower than Evervolv (I think), but seems to have better battery life (I think). Also, I forgot to mention, the USB Mass Storage thing is a little wonky, For example, it pops up when I plug it into the wall. One thing I want to check is whether the headphone jack works.
ETA: Titanium Backup just failed to get root rights. Not sure if that has anything to do with the ROM though.
Another update is that the microphone doesn't work for making calls.
I haven't done much more with this yet, but I got bored today after sitting at the hospital most of the day......
What's coming is already better for me than cm9...

Hello all, so I've had my Xperia Z3 for a week now and only just gotten to play with it properly after having a busy week at work! One thing I have noticed which I ABSOLUTELY HATE is the walkman widget! I have had the original Xperia Z for 2 years prior to this and loved everything about it including the walkman app & how the widgey is beautifully displayed. Now however, I noticed it does not have a progress bar, the image of the album art is bigger and doesn't look as good as when previously there was a transparent box around it and the buttons, just looks cheap & tacky now overall.
HOW CAN THIS BE?! I read on the official Sony forum that this new widget we are stuck with on newer Xperias but I am hoping there is a way to get the old version back? The progress bar was really helpful to know if I was halfway a song, now if I click back or forward to another song, it doesn't work because I can't see that I'm in the middle of a song so have to double click! :crying:
What are everyone else's opinions or am I the only 1? I think it just makes the whole widget completely redundant in a way! Plus, another horrible thing is the album art doesn't 'flip' to the next picture, animation of that is lost too! *sigh*
I have added screenshots for a better understanding. Top is the new ugly 1, and bottom is nice old one

Edit: Found ANOTHER PROBLEM! Noticed when I press forward/back on the widget, the album art skips and disappears on songs so it's just a stupid blank CD art... This widget just gets worse...! I beg Sony to allow us to have the option to use the old one!
Yes.. Same with my Z2.. Even i don't like it. But i managed to install old XZ widget and now its ok. I can do that because i have a rooted deodexed device.. We can always go back to older versions...
You don't need root to revert. Simply go to settings, apps, walkman, uninstall updates

I tried this and it does not work, it doesn't matter which version you have, as long as you have the newer Xperia's I think you are stuck with the new one
I can't remember when it was changed, I don't use the widget. Sideload an old apk for Walkman, that should get your old widget back.

I think it changed after 8.3 or something, but problem is, even if I uninstall updates on walkman, the factory version installed is still higher than what I need for the old widget, think it goes back to 8.4.. So would I have to uninstall the walkman app completely on Titanium & then install the older apk of the walkman? Not sure if uninstalling the walkman completely will have ill effects on my phone..?
If you can get the 8.3 apk and install it normally, it will most likely ask you if you want to replace what is currently on your device. If you say yes, it will replace with the older version. No need to uninstall.

What I mean is, that I cannot install the 8.3 apk because the factory version on the z3 is higher than the 8.3 one. I think unless it's lower than the 8.3, I cannot install it, gives me messages saying that I can't.
I'm sorry but they look almost exactly the same... if the top one is ugly, so is the bottom one because the differences are marginal. Obviously, you might not like it, but no offense - I think you're being fussy...
Anyway, you can always downgrade if the 5px bigger cover art and missing progress bar bother you so much. You can find older build all over the internet and don't need root to use them.

Ugly in terms of having no progress bar is useless to me, maybe to you they are minor issues, but to me the walkman is a HUGE part of my phone! I disagree they are marginal differences at all when I've stated the many things I don't like about it..
Like I have already stated if you read back, I cannot downgrade to older versions because the factory 1 is still higher than the version that I need, hence I am unable to install the older one I want? I already have many apk's of the older versions ready!
I agree and would like to know is there ANY way to get the old version back too? theres got to be a way
Try going into settings. Apps, go to all apps and scroll down to Walkman, and choose disable. Now try installing your old apk
And also tick unknown sources in security
The old one in 4.4.2 is much better
Thanks for the tips guys but as nerdy_James said, it doesn't seem to work because of the z3's factory version being higher than the needed versions of the apk =( when I try to disable it automatically goes back to factory version anyway so doesn't work.
Anybody else got any ideas?
Root, delete it, install older version
I actually prefer the new one.
Album art is bigger, progress bar is not important and it actually looks more simple now.
Bigger album art is not important to me. Each to their own =P
Shall give it a go with deleting it.
Edit; doesn't work. Won't allow me to install older ones..

No disrespect intended. You'll need to be a little less sensitive to survive any forum environment. I happen to agree with doministry and thanked him for sharing his opinion.
After all, we are also entitled to our opinion, correct? In any event we attempted to assist and it looks like its not possible to revert. Sony music unlimited is transferring to Spotify at the end of this month so that could also be a reason why installing a previous version is not possible.
Anyone trying it?
Beta 1 also known as DP2.
https://www.google.com/android/beta
Taking the plunge right now. I'll report later.
anyone else try it yet? I am assuming it is daily driver ready like N beta was
I am also waiting to see what people are reporting, hoping it's stable. Since I am on a custom rom it's a bit of a pain to load, don't see factory images yet.
I was thinking about trying this Android O beta out. I have a Verizon Pixel running stock (the bootloader is unlocked though). Should I have any issues?
Also, I know if I opt out of the beta, I'll lose all user data but will I lose user data when opting in and upgrading the Android O?

Unlocked bootloader is not a problem, in fact its better to have the option if anything goes wrong.
If you switch to official O when it's out no wipe required. Only if you want to go back to N.
I too am waiting for reports before i put it on my daily. i will be throwing it onto my nexus 6p tonight thought to try it out. if i dont see any bugs that are too bad... i may throw it on the pixel
Really eager to hear about battery life impact here if anyone can provide feedback.
Can anyone give some basic info about stability? I'd love to jump on with my Daily Driver, just if it isn't ready for it, I'll wait. Thanks in advance!
took forever to install(half hourish).900 mb
everything works so far without a wipe coming from the latest verizon 7.1.2 build.
confirmed tested on my part

android wear connects

overall seems buttery and the pulldown menu is surely nicer with being able to hit settings button without a reach is really nice. i couldnt get picture in picture to go but i didnt dive into the menus too far yet. so far so good. i think it's safe.

It's a nice beta so far. One thing noticed is double tap to check turn on the black screen but tapping the screen or notification icons won't do nothing and theme option won't switch to Pixel theme, even selecting it. Notification dots is a very good implementation for handling notification in a easily way. Ending my words, another great thing is that now night light have a intensity slider.
Any one has magisk or any root method working on this
Tried to update from latest Android N, didn't boot up, got a data corrupted message during install...
Can I now flash the Android O Factory Image without -w to get it running?
and most people in that tweeter feed can't get it to go either. every time i longpress home it launches assistant. and the setting to allow pip for youtube chrome and google play services are on by default.

I just checked my Note 8 and sure enough ... the update is ready from Verizon. I'm installing it now before I leave for work. Let's hope this thing works out okay. This is my work device!
Same here, I am downloading now.. And I hope it works out well also....

Ah, just got back into the country, saw the posts, checked and it's available. NorCal.

Just got it as well! https://thematridox.com/2018/03/30/samsungs-galaxy-note-8-get-android-oreo-on-verizon/
does it have the video lockscreen?
Network mode in oreo has changed... Global mode was removed!
I just noticed that 'message tone' has been removed from the contacts page. No more individual text message tones for your friends or family! UGH! Why remove a feature that's been on every Android I've owned since 4.2? I don't want to use a different text messaging app. I liked the way its been set up for the past ..umm... 10 YEARS! I'm certain that Apple will never remove that feature from their devices. I want ROOT so I can go back and FIX IT!
First rule of programming ... don't remove features unless they are broken. New versions should ADD improvements, not remove features that have been around forever that has always worked! I'm almost tempted to use ODIN to go back to 7.1.1. Makes me wonder what else is missing. I'm not happy with my $1000 phone

I still have it. I have Global, LTE/CDMA, and LTE/GSM/UMTS
So far, I've noticed the phone is faster and the enhanced lock screen and notifications are great. The occasional split second hiccups when opening apps seem to have gone away. The battery seems to drain more quickly but hopefully it will settle after a few charge cycles.
I forgot to take a screen before I plugged it up, but I ran it yesterday from approximately 11am until today at 1pm. So for a new build, it wasn't bad at all.. The only hiccup I had was with my poweramp audio player.. But I uninstalled and reinstalled and it seems fine..
But it is certainly much snappier.. And the little default YouTube picture in picture is pretty cool (simply because it just does it on its own). But I sure at some point it will begin to get in my nerves just doing it all the time...
But I took a screen of the battery stat for the screen and attached it...

Has the sound improved like the S9? Is there an option to turn on Atmos sound?
Is anyone missing the force touch settings feature whwn you hold down on an app from the home screen or apps page it brings up options for the app. I cant get mine to work. Seen here at 1.min mark.
Update… i have it. Doeant work for all apps.
Can anyone tell me if I go from a rooted Verizon note 8 and update to Oreo, if I can't get the hotspot to work right, will I be able to downgrade to re-root? Or if I backup what I have now using flashify, can I go back using the restore option on flashify?
i cant get the update via ota or from samfirm

Here is all you need to update from Nougat to Oreo.
https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-note8-android-oreo-update/
After following the instructions up above and you have Oreo installed, follow the next instructions to install CRC2 here and then CRC4, then CRC5

Well, I finally got the Double Stuf Oreo goodness on my Note8. It was an absolute NIGHTMARE to get, though!! Had to do it an unholy SIX TIMES before it stuck - the first five wound up reverting back to the stock Nougat upon rebooting!
Happy to report that after a few charge cycles, battery life is great again.
I am on a Note 8 and the last OTA Oreo patched the hotspot hack via bk package disabler. I am doing the sim card trick right now for my hotspot and it's been working like a charm. It is critical for me to keep this... does anyone know if the current update being pushed now patches that as well? If so, can I disable the system update notification?
Thanks in advance
