Nougat update

Hey guys, any idea when will Android 7.0 be released for the lenovo yoga book? Any new announcements yet?

I feel its safe to say we won't see an official O release.

If only there was a lineage version for the yoga book.

Just for the record: Nougat for the Yoga Book is out now.

Split screen works as on Android N. Tap and hold recent apps soft key. Select the app to appear in split screen. Can be resized 33/66, 50/50, 66/33. Tap and hold recent apps soft key to exit.

NOUGAT update is out (finally) and it's actually pretty fast and snappy. The multi window feature works flawless, the video cropping issue when playing videos in MX player is now fixed. Any other feature that could be useful in Nougat?

Netflix downloads are working now ....

But it borked the Halo keyboard. Holding down the Shift key gives a succession key presses, as does holding down the Alt key. Makes the keyboard effectively useless unless you type all caps or all lower case.

Settings App crashes when "Security" is clicked

My battery life has taken a really big hit since the nougat update, Android system is consuming over 50% of it... Only getting around 4 hours sot when I easily got over 7-8 before.

Me too... is there any solution to the battery problem?

I experience battery issues after the update, too. Android system and System UI suck it empty at least twice as fast as before. The sleeping yoga book looses about 4% per hour with WIFI off. In use, it's a bit hard to assess how big the battery performance loss actually is but it's definitively worse than before the update.

At this point, mine is using about 4% per day. But - -
It was extremely flakey for a while. Some nights it would lose only a few percent, while some nights it would lose 80%. I finally ended up doing a factory reset and reinstalling only the core programs that I use. I'm using DS battery saver and Greenify to get these results. I plan to keep track as I re-install apps to see if I can figure out the culprit (s). Actually, I was surprised at how many apps I had that i never used!
Update Oct 6: it's been 5 days with no problems. I don't know if it was the reset itself or if an offending program wasn't reinstalled, but for the moment, all is good.

Please report back if the factory reset helped, I kinda doubt it since so many people are experiencing the issue.

Yeah, i've got the same problem. Did you find a solution?

anyone has any issues w/ Amazon App thinking your Amazon AppStore is not installed? Not sure if it's due to upgrade but I can't run Plex app now. Its saying it can't find Amazon App installed on my Yagobook. Uninstall and reinstall both Plex and Amazon Underground with no avail.

I am also waiting to see what people are reporting, hoping it's stable. Since I am on a custom rom it's a bit of a pain to load, don't see factory images yet.

I was thinking about trying this Android O beta out. I have a Verizon Pixel running stock (the bootloader is unlocked though). Should I have any issues?
Also, I know if I opt out of the beta, I'll lose all user data but will I lose user data when opting in and upgrading the Android O?

Unlocked bootloader is not a problem, in fact its better to have the option if anything goes wrong.
If you switch to official O when it's out no wipe required. Only if you want to go back to N.

I too am waiting for reports before i put it on my daily. i will be throwing it onto my nexus 6p tonight thought to try it out. if i dont see any bugs that are too bad... i may throw it on the pixel

Really eager to hear about battery life impact here if anyone can provide feedback.

Can anyone give some basic info about stability? I'd love to jump on with my Daily Driver, just if it isn't ready for it, I'll wait. Thanks in advance!

everything works so far without a wipe coming from the latest verizon 7.1.2 build.
confirmed tested on my part
camera
android wear connects
fingerprint unlock(seems faster)
foxfi usb tether fosho
overall seems buttery and the pulldown menu is surely nicer with being able to hit settings button without a reach is really nice. i couldnt get picture in picture to go but i didnt dive into the menus too far yet. so far so good. i think it's safe.

It's a nice beta so far. One thing noticed is double tap to check turn on the black screen but tapping the screen or notification icons won't do nothing and theme option won't switch to Pixel theme, even selecting it. Notification dots is a very good implementation for handling notification in a easily way. Ending my words, another great thing is that now night light have a intensity slider.

Tried to update from latest Android N, didn't boot up, got a data corrupted message during install...
Can I now flash the Android O Factory Image without -w to get it running?

and most people in that tweeter feed can't get it to go either. every time i longpress home it launches assistant. and the setting to allow pip for youtube chrome and google play services are on by default.

Probably, doesn't hurt to try flashing ODP2 factory image without -w.

Is your notification shade stuck on the inverted theme and in device theme there is Pixel and some android_auto_generated_rro_ theme?

FYI - I'm running T-mobile on the unlocked S8+. Didn't think that I would get tmo updates, but it actually worked (had to manual check for the update). Mine just finished installing the OTA.

Downloaded this last night. Was trying to use the camera and kept getting a "system UI" crash notice. Phone started overheating really bad, to the point it was hot to the touch. I immediately shut it off, and left it on the ground for awhile, in case it decided to pull a Note 7. Turned it back on after 30 min, and camera works, but the phone started heating up again. Turned it back off for awhile. Started it up again, closed all apps, and so far it's okay. If you download, please keep an eye on it.

try taking out the sd-card and try the camera again using the internal sd... then try putting the sd-card in again to see what happens..
I would hate to say, maybe u have to do a factory reset, and see if that helps.. last resort...

I took the update last night,no overheating or issues,think root for our device is a long ways away as well....so who is getting the note 8?hopefully that comes with the ability to root

Heads up. Bixby button mappers are blocked from working with this update.

The update broke the built in Digits app. Support had me download and install the Digits app from the Play Store and said that it is now required. Anyone else?
Edit: It was not the OTA that broke built in Digits support. Wiping cache and loging out and then back in to my account fixed the issue. It appears that timing of the OTA and me noticing that Digits was not working was coincidence..

That's not cool, I don't like the digit app. You will end up having 2 notifications for each text or call you get.

I edited my post above. Turns out that it was not the OTA that broke Digits.

This update has wrecked my battery life. Android System is consistently beating out screen by a factor of 2x for the amount of battery utilization , even after several reboots. Disappointing that an official OTA has made me go from singing this phone's praises to hating it within a couple of days. And no, I don't want to do a factory reset and then spend hours setting everything back up, those days were supposed to be gone the moment they prevented us from rooting and installing custom roms.

Update: The issue I had was happening in any app, whenever I'd turn the phone to landscape mode. I did some research, and found someone in the Sprint S8 forum had the issue as well, and was able to fix it by simply changing the navigation button order, then switching it right back. Haven't had any issues with overheating since Saturday, but battery has been meh since the update.

You could completely disable Bixby with BK Disabler which is what I did.

Strange theme bug in Samsung Message

Since I bought the Note 9 I have a theme bug in the message app, the themes that try to change the messages bubbles don't do it anymore.
And the result is quite dirty: I get messages written white on white !
Do someone have the same issue or am I alone ?

You can't use night mode with themes on. They cancel out each other now.
What android version are you on? If you're on Pie but you're installing a theme and the homescreen screenshot in the store shows the clock widget at the Top of the screen, then that theme isn't updated for Pie as yet and will cause issues with theming.

I am still on Oreo 8.1 and frankly I don't think I will upgrade to Pie, I saw it and OneUi on my wife's S9, it is very elegant and round but all is black or white, no more colors
In fact I had the Note 8 before and it worked properly, when the Note 9 went out, I thought it would be better, with more battery, enhanced audio and so on, but basics like the themes do not work, and I am starting to regret the change.
Besides all the apps have been upgraded to their current version under Oreo

It depends on theme you use. I have themes on Pie with colours everywhere.

I tried Pie and went back to Oreo. Many dark themes, even those updated for Pie had elements that didn't work properly (white text on white backgrounds, misaligned bubble menus). Perhaps they'll improve over time.
For now, Oreo works great and many of the Pie enhancements are available through Good Lock.

And ironically, this upgrade has shown up on my phone yesterday.
Trouble is I really want to stay on Oreo
But now there is a notification about the upgrade that is bugging me and I can't get rid of it. I seached google for a solution but apparently without rooting the phone no one found a way to stop it.

It can be stopped by using an ADB command to uninstall the Software Update app.

How can I remove the Covid-19 notifications that mysteriously appeared on my phone!?!

Did not update anything this week. Now, under settings-google there is "covid-19 notifications". Had to have been either carrier pushed or a google back door. I don't even have a google account on my phone!
Shows "on/1app" but when I push it the screen just goes dark until I hit back.
Titanium and App ops can't find it.
I keep bluetooth off and only turn location on when I need Magic Earth Maps, then turn it back off, however, the pisses me the f**k off that it has been loaded on my phone.
I have a Samsug Tab running Lineage and it is not there, but the tab is wifi only. Tried Lineage 3 times on my phone and can not get Signal messenger to work and that is a deal breaker for me.
Anyway, how do we get rid it this??

I don't have any Covid apps installed so for me there are no settings to turn on or off; this form of contact tracing is not yet available where I live.
The big question is what app on your phone is being detected as a contact tracing app.

How do the notifications look like? Regular notifications? Perhaps take a screenshot when you see another one. You should be able to trace which app (or system element) is spewing out these nuisances by long pressing the notification and take more actions by tapping the gear icon top right...

@franken..... I actually don't get to that screen, but that is the right place. Checked a another Android and that is the screen it goes to, mine just goes black.
@timmmmm...haven't gotten any notifications as I don't have any covd apps.
Settings does, however show "on/1 app". I am guessing a glitch since I have leashed google w xxx, Titanium, and App Opps.
I have not done the last system update. Don't have a google account, but do have a google Fi sim card since I live overseas and it works here.
I read google pushed this out as a new setting, for those that download covid apps, blah, blah, blah.......but HOW?
And how do we get rid of it. Article I read on a UK new site said "usage and diagnostics" is where you can turn it off and on, my phone was and is set to off, but I still wanna get rid of it.

That's part of a Google Play Services update, you can't remove it.
If you don't opt-in explicitly, it should not have any effect.

Do you really want to trust that? I personally wouldnt trust anything said or done at this point. For sometime my phone's been acting weird. Note 9 completely stock. But my g7 power rooted since day one with a global variant still runs like a charm. I'd rather just remove it or better yet permanently disabled it through some exploit.

What exactly do you think the phone is doing with that Covid-19 notification setting without an app to drive it? Contact tracer apps need to plug into the local health authority, and only a few places in the US are doing it because people are so suspicious of big tech. I would gladly participate but it's not available in my area.

The only way to get rid of it is to delete Google Play Services. That's how they snuck it in. On Android Pie it's simple. Just debloat via ADB using pm list packages prompt and voila! it's gone. On Android 10 it works the same EXCEPT none of the google apps, firefox, instacart, or anything like that will WORK. So you can de-google all you want - they've baked it into everything. It's something I'm struggling with now since I was forced to upgrade.
