Capacitive buttons stopped responding - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am talking about the Recent apps and Back buttons.
The buttons still light up (when I start the device, when I unlock it, when I turn on "Always on" in settings), but rarely react to me touching them.
Occassionally, when I reboot the device they work properly, but after 1-2 minutes they stop again.
The fact that they sometimes work on startup, lead me to believe that the problem might not be in the hardware, so I tried flashing a lot of different offical roms, factory resets, wipes etc. Still, sometimes I get them to work for a couple of minutes.
I searched a lot for similar problems in any of the Galaxy S- devices, but to no avail.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

keyboard stops responding

I'm running Black 2.5 as my ROM, but it's happened on all ROM's, including the Cingular stock WM5 rom. The keyboard just stops working. It comes back sometimes on it's own a few minutes later, and always after a soft reset, but what causes it?
Does this happen to anyone else, and is it a hardware issue, or a software issue?
Does happen to me sometimes. Had one this morning. Not only k/b, but the scroll wheel as well.
Keyborad not responding
Hello,
Have same problem after flashing rom.
I thought that maybe I did it wrongly but also my friend discover this issue.
From time to time external keyboard not responding and on-screen keyboard is working but DEL key is also dead.
Also other buttons like green/red phone keys not respondig.
Sometimes problem disapper automaticaly sometimes I have to reset phone.
Any solution?
Has anyone found information on this problem? I have had my 8525 for about 6 months now and this has happened to me on the original shipped ROM as well as both Black 2.5 and 3.0.1.
It happens usually during texting, and like stated previously, sometimes it comes back on its own, and sometimes it takes a soft-reset to get it working again. I am able to finish the typing using the SIP before soft-resetting.
I haven't paid attention to whether or not the scroll wheel stops working or not. I'll keep an eye out for that. Also I can't figure out what's triggering this problem. It seems very random.
I would start to think it's a hardware problem since I have seen it on 3 different ROMs, but so many of us are experiencing the same issue.
Happens on my Vario 2 sometimes. I've put it down to me using the keyboard whilst the CPU is bogged down too much, and it just doesn't 'see' the interrupts coming from the keyboard I/O controller, and then it loses its sync.
I usually just soft reset at that point, because I can't be bothered to wait and see if it comes back
I have it sometimes when using IM and PIE. Closing PIE and waiting a couple of minutes usually brings it back.

Constant Touch Screen Malfunctions

Hey,
I'm sorry but I can't find anything on common touch screen problems..
My touch screen is constantly just not working. It started I think after a droplet of water(one singular drop) fell on the screen for a second(right in the middle) and it stopped working for about 2 hours..Since then I will have it working fine for a couple days, then it will just simply stop working. No response to anything at all. I can restart it and sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't. I usually just end up sitting it down and when I come back 20-30 minutes later it works again.
Now, today, it has been doing it constantly. I can get it to work after multiple resets and stuff, but then it will stop again. Works some, then stops, etc, but I am not doing anything difference except resetting it..
Is there anything where I can troubleshoot the problems with my screen and see what is wrong with it?

Well I don't know how you searched but there are multiple threads on touch screen problems. Here's one search I did using the Google sticky post:
http://www.google.com/search?as_q=t...rum.xda-developers.com&as_rights=&safe=images
However, your problem is curious as it's the opposite of the one many get. Some folks find when the device has been on for a while and gets warm then it's screen stops responding. You have the opposite, it stops working and then leaving it brings it back again. I suspect though it's related. By leaving it for a while it cools down and works again.
It's not good news and we have no reliable fix. It is not thought to be a touch screen fault (for many folks anyway) so changing the screen may not change anything.
If it still has the problem after a hard reset then it's a Warranty replacement or repair I'm afraid.

AT&T 8525 problems - Touchscreen locks up, keys still work

I've read the other threads about this issue, it seems to be related to the keyboard for me, or maybe that's a completely different issue.
The most annoying thing for me, more so than the touchscreen failing, is something where it's like a key is being pressed repeatedly, very fast. For example, the start menu was opening and closing extremely rapidly. During this time, the touch screen might work, but anything I open is closed immediately. Even hard resets, taking out the battery while the device is on don't help. And when it eventually subsides, the touchscreen isn't working. The other thing that opens and closes rapidly is the task manager that comes with a lot of firmwares (Shaps for one).
I'm planning on seeing if I can take this device in, seeing as how we bought it not long ago. Just wondering as to the causes, as I've spent quite a few hours trying and trying to fix this.
When I pull out the keyboard, at the point when it goes 'click', that will sometimes trigger the rapidly flicker start menu and such issue.
The thing about the task manager puzzles me though - the start menu button is a hardware key, but there isn't one for the task manager in the upper right. So what would be triggering that?
Technology can be so bloody annoying.
Thanks for any answers,
-David

[q] screen rotation stopping?

I am not sure what is going on, but my screen rotation just dies randomly throughout the day, sometimes multiple times per day. When it happens my proxmity sensor also stops working. A reboot fixes both issues then they will naturally happen again. When they both stop working, apps that try to use the gyro wont work they come up with a error that says it cannot be accessed. Im wondering if its a hardware issue, but its hard to believe since it works upon reboot? Ive tried pulling the battery for 30 seconds and other tricks, also dropping the phone with a case on (maybe the weight is stuck) Not sure what else to try, but next step is to swap it out i guess

Screen freeze + Ghost touch

I searched for this a lot, and found a lot of people experiencing similar things but not exactly what I happen to have. So here is what happens:
1. first screen freezes and you can't touch anything (icons, nav keys)
2. ghost touches start (as if someone touches screen quickly in lots of places), and this causes apps to start at random, numbers are dialed, random strings of characters are being input, etc.
The only thing I can do is to turn off screen, then turn back on and it will unfreeze the screen, and stop ghost touches for a few moments. It will not stop randomly dialed calls so I often have explaining to do to a lot of people why I have called them. In short it's a nightmare. My phone is practically unusable.
It all started just a week ago. I did a factory reset back to the same custom rom - helped for 2 days, and then problem came back. I wiped everything (including internal memory), and flashed a different custom rom - problem appeared within 10 minutes of starting the phone. Both were 5.1 custom roms. Has anyone had this happen?
I found out it can be either faulty screen or battery, but I have no idea how to determine which. I do not want to try replacing one after the other. Is there a way to figure out the cause of the problem?
I will try to take a video of what happens.
