Strange Finow X5 Occurance - Other SmartWatches

I woke up to find my new watch in what looked like Chinese writing on the screen (thought it might be updating). After cautiously rebooting the watch I found the boot screen had changed, which used to have Finow on it, now booting with an animated clip of a rotating planet earth. Should I be concerned about this strange occurance? Is this the the beginning of the machine uprising?? Has this happend to you or anyone in the XDA community? Or should I put it in a copper shielded cage??? Seriously, should I be concerned or should I flash it again?
I did have to flash my watch 2 days prior and used all the techniques found in the XDA forums to successfully restart the watch. :good:

[FUN] Elf in the refrigerator

Hi, I'm the proud owner of an ELF(in). I bought it on ebay very cheap because it was in bootloader mode. Thanks to the gold card method I've been using it with no problems at all.
Yesterday I bought another one (ELF), it hangs after 3-5 seconds of power on (bootloader, loading windows, etc). Sometimes the screen just shuts off, sometimes everyting becames green. So, I decided to put it in the refrigerator and see what happens. After 15 minutes I powered it up and it works! I take it out and hangs almost immediately. Is this just a faulty unit? No hope for it? (I don't want to carry my refrigerator everywhere).
If someone has any ideas, I'm listening.
Thanks!
hahaha, i love this post. sorry i'm not able to offer too much help but I had to comment. I know my parents used to freeze batteries to make em last longer. Tried a different one?
Well yeah, I tried soft reset, hard reset, the battery from my working Elfin, etc.
Try the microwave... for two minutes?
There already was a thread about this problem (maybe you bought it) and already then my answer was to take the device apart clean all the dust and dirt inside and give it another shot. I had a nokia with the same problem and when i opened it it was full with dust and fibres from my pants everytime whe put it in our pants there comes a bit of dirt in it and because of the rubbing it acumulates inside the device and it enters in protection-mode (nice word????) because of overheating ate least that was the explanation they gave me when i contacted nokia at the time.........You can't loose anything by trying

I already cleaned up, and still the same. It's clearly an overheating problem, it's been in the refrigerator for a couple of hours and works like a charm. Not very useful though as it's no longer a "portable device"!

Just buy one of those mini refrigerators... carry it around on your back (along with a VERY long extension cord) and have your Elfin inside. When you need a snack or need to call, the fridge is always there!

Well, I hope you didn't pay much for it. You can always keep it handy for spare parts when you might need some. My first thought was that you might want to try using a different battery, but I see you already tried this.

Is there not a small watch size battery in these devices - Perhaps it needs replacing?
See picture I included at the bottom of the device. I got this picture from the complete disasembly guide in the elf forum.
I knew about people who used the refrigerator to overclock their PCs, but this thing you're doing is amazing!

I used a small box with ice when I connected it to the PC for rom updating, perhaps I should carry that box. I know it sounds bizarre but it works fine when refrigerated!

I disconnected that battery and it works just the same without it!
Any more ideas on how to fix this Elf?
try booting into windows and looking at the cpu speed, if it is normal lower it to the minimum and see if it hangs then.
eitherway, u must try reflashing everypiece of firmware, especially the radio firmware before giving up. (yeah, u might have to put ur laptop in the fridge with the phone )
Try lowering the clock speed with and Overclocking tool. Homescreen ++ gives u temp report. With that u can know if the temp is the real problem.
Liquid Nitrogen is the answer
Fix a fan on it
Haha, how about fixing a computer fan at the back of the pocket pc, it needs cooling.
Maybe the temperature sensor of the ppc has been spoilt, reporting the wrong data to the brain, thus the ppc restarts.
Ok, finally my Elf is working with no crashes at all outside the fridge! I found the solution in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=476152.
Thanks to Firestarter42 for the tip and okti for the mini-tutorial. I think that info should be in Elf's Wiki page.
However! I've got another problem... I've attached a screenshot. Any ideas?

[Q] Diagnosing instability

First a disclaimer ... actually two disclaimers ...
#1. I'm an Android noob - I had installed it onto my old AT&T Fuze and loved it and based on that bought a Dell Streak which arrived today;
#2. Within an hour of getting it, it was rooted and 2.1 O2 image installed
I love it. Faster than I can believe is possible over 3G, smooth, lovely.
Except it constantly shuts down. It seems almost every time I go to switch it on it's booting from startup again ... Dell logo ... O2 logo ... then home screen.
OK, 3 disclaimers ...
#3. I've installed a ****load of apps onto it already
Is there an application that will allow me to monitor which applications are causing the instability, or do I just have to suck it up as the cost of running something that's beta/unstable/wrong network/wrong device ... ?

have you checked the back plate is secure? when i had random shut downs it was because the backplate wasnt in place correctly. that could be the reason your having random shutdowns? the backplate is a little temperamental
I'm 99% sure it's secure ... it's flush to the device and can't see that it could possibly slide any further up.
It just shut down while I was using it ... hit the menu hard button in the XDA app ... reboot ... although this one was much faster restart.

hmmm, how odd. i dont think there is a app that will allow you to diagnose the problem. the best way would be to factory reset then reinstall one by one each app and try to find one which may be the problem
I've disabled the live wallpaper - will see how that works.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Power it up let it sit and dont run anything. Pick it up and drop it back in your hand then tap on the back plate. If it powers off then either the cover is loose or like me i actually had to mess with the two tabs on the back that senses thae cover is on. It was easy fix but took a bit to find. Thought I had a lemon for sure. I am not sure why they care if the back is on or not but it drops the unit without warning. Your problem sounds similiar to mine.
I think you guys could well be right. Last night I picked it up and dropped it about an inch onto the table and it rebooted.
So far today it seems to be behaving after I really pushed the back plate for all I was worth!
A bit of a design flaw to have it quite that sensitive I think.

You also need to remember that 2.1 is currently in Beta and is pretty buggy, that could also be causing the reboots
I'm on the 2.1 beta also, so expect the odd bug. Mine rebooted this morning after I dismissed the night clock after it had been running fine all night and the alarm woke me up fine.
Random rebooting is something I hope is fixed in final release
The back plate does become easier to fit after a bit, the first time I fitted mine I thought I was going to break something.
Not seen any random reboots on 2.1 (or none that I remember),4399 was much more prone to it.
Since giving the back cover a major push, the reboots have stopped. Kudos to flumps and martywix.
Loving this device ... why did it take me so long to discover Android?

very happpy & very upset/sad

hello all.
just bought a new galaxy tab for the price of $750 here in Baghdad today. it was brought over from UAE and has full Arabic and the best android 2.2 system.
i am extremely happy to have it however the happiness stops to when the spec of dust appeared to my eyes. right under the sticker that comes on the screen appeared a white dot to the very right of the screen. however when i use the unit the although not apparent it looks like a dead pixel rather than a spec of dust because it looks to mix colors. (i would take a picture later and attach it to this post) -- the area i am talking about can be shown here. its on the very top right hand corner of the center image in step 18; http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-Teardown/4103/3
i am considering tearing the unit apart and blowing some air under the screen this is if the item is dust.. is it easy? i am looking over some videos to take it apart. -- according to the steps from the link above step 18 requires a heat gun and that i am not too good with.
OR
shall i just ignore it?
Any experiences with things like this?
thanks!
[wow a 104 views as of this edit and no replies? hmm]
there was an article that showed the teardown of a tab. They said it took an extream amount of heat to seperate the glass from the screen.
I would send it back to Samsung for replacement or try and ignor it.

+1 for sending it back to Samsung, a device this expensive shouldn't come with any dead pixels! If you open it to try and fix it yourself you'll invalidate your warranty and then will really be stuck with it!!

Try this Pixel Fixer program. I had two stuck pixels on my DroidX when I got it. This fixed it.

The fact your screen goes on and off as you open and close apps
Would say something is really wrong.
Have you tried flashing your original firmware and starting from there?
got back to the original, Once booted update using the OTA
and see if you have the same problems

You would need to Download from the sammy site. But I know that's really slow.
You could use this tool,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647
I have used this myself to Download the latest firmware. Works well and a much faster way to Download

Use Sammys official Smart Switch tool and do a device initialization form there. It will dl the latest firmware for you, wipe and reflash automatically
http://www.samsung.com/us/smart-switch/
find your firmware from your country here

Well, I think you display might die soon since i've got the same symptoms and the same messed up screen in the last picture and my display completely die after that but screen replacement fixed it.

I think it would have been cheaper for Samsung to just replace your phone with a new one...
It happened to me also! But before the new update! The only thing I could do was to bring it to the technical support and I hope they will give me a new S7 Edge

Huawei P9 Lite flickering bar

I have had my Huawei P9 Lite (Android 7.0, EMUI 5.0) for less than a year.
A flickering bar has appeared a few weeks ago at the bottom of the screen. It's always there, even during the Huawei loading screen when I reboot it. Also, it seems to have gotten bigger over time, covering a larger portion of the screen. It doesn't seem to affect the touch screen though.
the bar doesn't appear on screenshots.
Any ideas how to get rid of it?
Hey man, im seeing the same problem with my phone. Any advice on how you fixed it? Thanks in advance
I had the same problem. So I went to a Huawei Repair/Service Point and got the screen replaced.
On average how long will the repair time be?
I may have to carry in mine to get replaced too but I want to know how long will they take to replace it, if same day that will be amazing. Also, before carrying it in im thinking about flashing the ROM to see if the problem will fix. Do you think this is a good idea?

I had to keep my phone with them for a day. But that is due to ongoing phone repairs at the Huawei Service Center.
And also as far as i know, it's a display problem. So I don't think flashing roms will help.
