I use Bluetooth in my car to make calls, the phone pairs OK with the car, and I can make and receive calls. However, my contacts don't sync, it just shows on my cars screen "Loading Phonebook" and sits there.
I get the message on my phone that my car wants to access my contacts and I select ok , but it repeats the message over and over. So I check "don't ask everytime" and click ok , but nothing happens and I just have the screen show "Loading Phonebook" on the car. I've let it sit for over an hour and reset my phone and every time it's the same problem.
With my Galaxy Nexus on 4.2 it syncs my contacts instantly, no problem.
Anyone face a similar problem with Bluetooth?

Here is the logcat when the phone is connected to the car. Seems like logcat goes crazy displaying the same message over and over again. No wonder my battery drained so fast when paired to my car.

For what it's worth, my Nexus 4 pairs, and syncs it's contacts with my Parrot MKI9200.
BUT, it didn't work the first time I tried to pair them, I'd get continual requests for a connection. Once I'd unpaired and tried again everything was fine.

I constantly get the request to access my contacts, that's my problem. I tried unpairing and repairing, and also did a factory reset, but it doesn't solve the problem.

This is a long shot but has worked for me before on older devices with similar issues.
1. Remove the pairing
2. Install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.medieval.blueftp
3. Pair through the app.
If it works you should no longer need the app to use the pair.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work. I want to figure out if it's only my nexus 4 is having this problem or others..
If anyone is willing to come and test their nexus 4 that would be great. I live in Torrance, CA and I'll buy you lunch, and you get to test drive my M3 for an incentive.

No problem - thought it was a long shot. FWIW my N4 syncs beautifully with my Ibiza FR so it maybe a BMW kit specific issue?

Probably not. Ironically my GN was a total nightmare with my car kit.
Anyways - hope you get it sorted.
I've got the similar problem with my Parrot MKi9200; when I try to pair the phone with the parrot, the parrot stuck, does not respond well to the control and I have to turn off the car and back on to recover
Which device instigates the pair?
I've gone away and had a mess about.
My Nexus 4 as it turns out hates the pair being requested. It only behaves if its initiated the initial pair request.

Same problem with my Galaxy Nexus running 4.2.1, in a 2007 BMW 530i. I have revised my contact lists, stopped syncing accounts, deleted call logging app, etc. None solve the problem. Before update to 4.2, no Bluetooth connectivity or contacts issues had manifested.
Oddly, my contacts have randomly appeared a few times, but they disappear within minutes. I even went so far as to delete the one contact that would always come up (mine had last name starting with "F" and first name starting with "H"), and now I get a different contact ("G", "T").
Any changes for you recently?

The only solution now requires root. Extract the Bluetooth apk from cyanogenmod ROM and copy it into your system/app directory and reboot. Make sure Bluetooth is off when you do this.
Here's the apk rename it Bluetooth.apk, http://www.mediafire.com/?nomkkcdpucjaxwr
A fix has been submitted to aosp, it's waiting approval. Hopefully in android 4.3 it'll be fixed.

horrible .....
Previously i had an S3 that would automatically connect call audio and media to my 11 wrx. This worked perfectly as i listen to pandora on my way to and from work.
My new s4 only automatically connects the call audio and not media. I have to manually connect the media everytjme the car turns on.
Is there any way to change these defaults?

I'm having similar issues. I cannot change the default profiles and the phone doesn't autoconnect at all. If I turn off the bluetooth and turn it on, the media will connect.
On my Galaxy Nexus I had no issues, both profile boxes were checked and the phone would connect to hpne and media as soon as I turned the car on.
This is frustrating because one of the primary uses for my phone is music in the car and I really love the way the bluetooth works with calls in the car.

I also have a 2011 Subaru WRX and have difficulty with my SGS4 auto connecting. As stated by the original post, upon turning on my car, my phone connects the "phone" portion and not the "media." Any help would be appreciated as this is quite annoying. I was previously with an HTC DNA...which auto connected with ease in both aspects, yet didn't display song data. Now, my situation is reversed in a sense...haha....

After manually connecting by hitting both those checkboxes repeatedly, it will eventually look like that.
Hi all
Sorry if there is another thread with this already but I am at the end of my tether!
I have a Galaxy S4 with Android 4.2.2 and am having problems when paired to my Merc B200 with Audio 20.
I believe this may be a common problem but I just need confirmation from someone in the know.
ISSUE:
I can pair with the head unit no problems, but when I make and receive calls, there is no audio. Apparently the other end can hear me, but I am unable to hear them.
Audio is on max, both on the phone and the audio 20.
Any ideas? Is this a software issue?
I did contact Samsung, who obviously told me that this was down to the car manufacturer and MB told me to buy an older phone (great advice!).
My wifes Iphone 5 works flawlessly, as did my Iphone 4s.
MB seem to be under the impression that a car firmware update will no resolve the problem and basically I am scuppered. Surely bluetooth should be backwards compatible!!!
Cheers
Andy
I got a blackberry to work with a mb car kit a while ago, not sure of the symptoms the user was seeing but he was pairing from the phone to the kit. I tried pairing the phone from the car kit and it then started to work flawlessly.

might be a similar issue
Not sure if it's the same thing but I'm at a loss as to what to do. I bought the Jaybird SB2 bluetooth headset. I've read elsewhere others have had issues connecting to Mac's (I have the same connection problem with my Macs) but they worked fine with my old Galaxy S2 (when it had pre-jelly bean rom). As soon as I upgraded the sounds cuts out after a couple of minutes although the player says the music is playing. I can get it to work again for another couple of minutes by disconnecting then reconnecting the bluetooth. I then flashed a custom JB rom (supernexus I think) on the old S2 and everything worked perfectly. I've just got my stock S4 and the same problem with the bluetooth keeps happening.
I can only think it's a software problem since the headphones work perfectly with my Nexus 7 and my old S2 with this custom rom but I can't find anything online elsewhere recording the problem. Not really sure where to turn for help since I doubt Samsung will care.
Unsure if 100% related, but I've had some issues with BT on my Subaru Outback ('13).
When I am (simultaneously):
1) Charging
2) Connected to my car stereo via Bluetooth
3) Playing music (using default GS4 music widget)
4) Navigating w/ Google Navigation
The Google Navigation voice cuts out half way through giving the direction.
"In 250 feet, turn right onto" ... ... ... ... nothing
It's really horrible, especially because this is the PRIMARY use for my phone (car audio & nav).
Update:
Winamp doesn't interrupt nav, but I lose BT controls on steering wheel.
AVia doesn't either and keeps BT control functionality.
All music players I've tried, however, just seem to crash at random...
They either stop altogether or think the music is still playing but no audio is on.
All of this is resolved by using Aux instead of BT.
This is what leads me to believe it is BT related.
Anyone with experience or help here, that'd be awesome...
I've had a breakthrough with mine
I installed an app called 'Soundabout' from the playstore that reroutes any audio to a BT device, this did the trick, I now have audio both when making and receiving calls.
It also works for a2dp streaming issues.
The odd thing is though, I deleted the app afterwards just on the off chance that it fixed anything in the background.... And it did! My BT audio is now working seamlessly without the app!
I am currently running a flashed stock rom (XXUAME2).
Hope this helps others

Hi,
I have the same issue.
I have just got my new Galaxy S4, everything is working fine except the Bluetooth. I am having trouble to use the Bluetooth on my 2011 Toyota Car corolla. I am able to connect to the Bluetooth, and play music but problem with starting to make a call. when I say "starting to make a call" means I can make a call, but the receiver can't hear me and I can't hear them neither. I was able to answer the call or hang up, everything is working fine except no voice come out from the speakers.
The funny is it will work if I use Apps to make a call, such as Skype, viber.
I can't find any solution so far.

4ndynic you're a legend! My wife got an S4 and it didn't want to work properly with our Mercedes with the native bluetooth. I installed Soundabout (non Pro version), went into Bluetooth Behavior, turned on (Dynamic) Media Audio Usage, and now it works perfectly!! I especially love the fact that the alerts for SMS etc still come through the phone.

It appears that the setting may revert if you turn bluetooth off and back on again. After doing that, I had to go back into soundabout and untick then retick that box. Can anyone else confirm this behaviour? It certainly appears to be a default setting in the operating system causing the issue, which means it may be possible to fix with a patch, and Samsung should certainly be able to fix it in a future update.

I thought Mercedes would contact the SoundAbout email address about getting that to work, but alas....I've gotten no email yet.
it might be your rom version, tried it here with 4.2 and 4.3 and works without any issues and no need to install additional software.
Anyone else experience issues connecting and starting connected on Bluetooth? I noticed that when i was at the gym my Bluetooth headphones have no issues. However when I connect to my car Bluetooth it takes forever to connect or just doesn't (keeps saying failed). When it connects it will promptly disconnect sometimes, usually when a notification comes in. The media and notifications are sporadic (sometimes it says enabled or sometimes they are disabled). On my Ford Sync system it doesn't technically say I'm connected to a Bluetooth. When the media works, it doesn't show the song or anything playing.
Don't tell me it's my vehicle because my HTC One M9 worked fine with Sense/Cyanogen ROMs and my work iPhone 6 and girlfriends iPhone 6S+ both work.
It's probably your vehicle.

What year is the Focus? We have two Escapes, a 2010 and a 2011. My S7 Edge has no problem with the 2011, but has issues with the 2010. My S4 had no problem with either and my wife's MotoX has no problem with either.
I recently purchased the N6P to replace my dying N4. The transition from one device to the other has gone pretty well, except for one issue. My N6P is unable to find the bluetooth signal from my Ford Fusion. Upon turning on bluetooth and searching for devices, the N6P cannot find the Ford Sync signal. I've rebooted the phone many times, Ive tried it many times in safe mode with no success, Ive turned the Sync's bluetooth on and off numerous times, the phone is still unable to detect it. I have also tried deleting all the paired devices on the Sync settings and had no luck with the N6P working. Aside from a factory reset of the phone, what else can I do?
My N4 was able to connect to the Sync right up to when I stopped using it. My fiancee's Samsung Galaxy (something) can detect, connect, and function with the Sync's bluetooth. I am beginning to think its something with the N6P. Ive tried it on all three versions of the OS Ive had on the phone. The original OS version didn't work when I first powered up the N6P, the next version of the OS i updated to didn't work, and this morning the phone ran the latest update and the bluetooth doesnt work.
I'm at a loss, I'm ready to return this phone and go back to my dying N4.
Edit: I am currently running Android 6.0.1.
My wife's N5x has the same problem with our ford sync, I think its related to the bluetooth disconnection bug I've had since the may update.
You can still connect it by opening the bluetooth screen on your phone so that it is visible to other devices and in the sync setup tell sync to search for devices and select your nexus phone.
My wife and I both own Nexus 6p's. I just bought a brand new Ford F-150 and my wife has a 2014 Toyota mini van (forget the model name off the top of my head, but still a fairly new vehicle). Neither one of our Nexus 6p's will connect to with vehicle. Prior to our Nexus 6p's (which I really had to talk my wife in to getting a Nexus 6p) our LG G4 and Note 5 connected flawlessly. I even bought a Bluetooth thing that plugs in to my trucks aux and that works after turning the Bluetooth on and off a few times. Totally freaking unacceptable. We both have Nexus Protect on both devices, but don't think a new Nexus 6p will fix the issue. No problem at all with Google maps other than audio coming through my brand new trucks speakers. Smh. Both of our phones are not rooted or changed in anyway. Out of the box stock.

I can verify that I have this experience as well in one of my cars with an aftermarket bluetooth Sony head unit (that supports A2DP streaming). Haven't checked in the Nissan yet (no A2DP), but I will tonight.
Bluetooth on this model sure has some "quirks".....
I have a 2015 fusion Ti & N6P I have had zero issues. however i will say my bluetooth connection is much more stable after updating SYNC to the latest version. Bit of a pain because you have to create a ford account to gain access to the instructions/files. but here is the URL to get you started: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/how-tos/keep-your-sync-up-to-date.html
I also have a Ford Fusion 2015 and I have no problems connecting to SYNC. It also connects just fine with my wife's Ford Escape. Which month's build are you using? Is your radio up to date? I don't think I've ever updated the SYNC software in either vehicle so I'm not sure it's that. Make sure BT is on and you have the BT page in settings open so that both devices can see each other. Then go into the car's phone menu and add a device. That's how I did it. Make sure the vehicle is not moving or preferably in park. Good luck.
It magically connected right after I posted above. Now I'm afraid to install the June security patch lol. Working flawlessly in my F-150 though.
