[Moto X Force] Critical Battery Problem! Any technicians out there? - Droid Turbo 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I've had this phone for about 3 months now, and about a week ago it would not charge when plugged in. Whenever I plug it in, it says USB charging or AC charging, and barely charges. I also noticed that when I plug it in the computer, it will not identify the device. I have tried all the basic steps, from resetting the phone, to using different plugs, outlets, cables etc. I have concluded that it is hardware related. Wireless charging is the only way I've managed to keep the phone alive.
Here's the kicker: Since I am in the USA, I've had to order a Moto X Force from UK through ebay, so neither USA or UK Motorola is wanting to help me out! I've been trying to get some help on their forums, and apparently this is a known issue, that happened when MM rolled out. There is a 36 page thread on there https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/DROID-TURBO-2-by-Motorola/Turbo-2-won-t-charge/td-p/3261260/page/35. Long story short, everyone is jut having to send their phones in for replacements.
I am pretty much out of answers, I feel like I've tried everything and my only solution may be performing surgery on the phone if I could find out which component is wrong, and where to find the replacement.
Any ideas?

The issue is present in Moto X Force devices, but it's not due to MM. I got mine from Motorola Mexico in December 22, MM was available at that time, I got the same issue around 3 weeks ago and had to send it to Motorola. They had to change the phone motherboard to solve the issue, and I have heard similar cases in Latin America where they replace the phone for a new one. This is definitely a know issue for this phone.

Repairing a T-Mobile MDA Pro in America

This is not as trivial as you might think. The USB port somehow managed to become loose (maybe because I naturally have to plug and unplug the USB cable at the office and in the car all day long) and so I could not charge or sync the unit. T-Mobile US wouldn't touch it...because it's a T-Mobile UK phone! I took it to a local cell phone repair shop, and the service tech there soldered the port back onto the motherboard (for $50). But the unit still won't charge or sync. He has agreed to seek a warranty repair, etc., and has various vendor contacts. But this is a real nuisance compared with having T-Mobile US handle the whole thing. I e-mailed HTC support, but they haven't responded yet. I'm wondering if anyone else here in the US has had a similar experience and knows what to do. My repair guy is competent, but this is the first Universal he's worked on. I do have everything backed up, so that's not an issue.
Success
The local repair guy failed--he used too much solder and destroyed a microswitch (all while charging me for $50). I searched for hours on the Internet and finally found www.pocketpctechs.com. I shipped my MDA Pro to them overnight ($60, ouch), and they cleaned up the previous guy's work, resoldered the USB port correctly, upgraded the ROM, and ran all the diagnostics. The cost was $60 plus $25 for the microswitch plus shipping back ($28). I got the unit back and everything is working fine (even faster than before). The only drawback is that it's no longer under the factory warranty; the PocketPCTechs warranty is for 90 days.
Oh, and I got rid of the Krusell leather case and purchased a PDAir aluminum case. Much safer!

Power Issues with a jasjar

Ok so I have 2 issues, my jasjar was bought in february 06, making it 15 months old. Recently my usb socket came loose. Ive been doing some little botched repairs which last about a week each. Is there any definitive DIY guide to repairing this socket in a more permanent way, Im quite a skilled solderer so nothing will scare me.
the 2nd issue is battery life, between 45 and 50% my phone will just cut out and keep restarting until i plug in the usb for a while. Is this normal with a 15 month old battery ??? would a hard reset fix this ???
Before you get flame from others, let me answer your second question, buy a new battery. The is many different thread discussing about this, most with the same conclusion that you need to put your old battery to RIP.
Most info are in http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Universal for technical problems.

Mini-USB port BUSTED LOOSE?!

Has this happened to anyone else? The phone works fine. But last night I went to plug in the charger and the Mini-USB port PUSHED IN. I didn't insert it forcefully either. So I look closer and see that it's *rattling* around in the bottom.
????
The phone still works but with no way to charge it and no way to connect it for data, this really sucks! Can this be fixed? I don't even know what size torx bit to buy, much less if I should even bother
Broken Mini-USB connector
The same thing happen with my 8125. I called Cingular and they eventually replaced my unit. I spoke with tech support and they agreed. During the next billing cycle, they incorrectly charged me almost $350.00, so I called customer service and they reversed the charge. My unit was less than a year old.
Be alert to possible being billed for the repair. Based upon my research into this problem, it is a known design flaw and should be replaced under warranty.

Except that I'm a GoPhone account.... but I'll call them anyways and see what they say. Can't hurt. Otherwise I think I'll be plopping down the $$$ for a Hermes of some form.
There's a company called PPC Tech that can do the USB port repair for you.

I called that company up above, Pocket PC Techs. The lady was very nice, and she's discounting me on a shell change since they will have the current shell off anyways to repair the unit.
She said yes, the USB port issue is indeed common. I asked her what they do to avoid further repeated breaks. She said they use a USB socket that has a sturdier contact surface to solder to, and they warranty for 90 days. I suspect after they're done it won't break again with normal use.
They're in Fountain Valley, California... about a 45 min drive from me. She said if I bring it in the morning (their hours are 11am - 4pm M-F), they can fix the port and have it back to me with new housings in about an hour or so.
I'll report more if need be, but I strongly urge anyone with this issue to call or email this company, their act together. They do screen replacements and touch sensor as well. Also check out their accessories. Top notch stuff.
I got a similar problem,
The usb port went a bit dodgy and the usb plug had to be rested on something so it would charge but it wouldnt sync
This morning i plugged it in to charge it and heard a click inside and my phone wasnt charging so i unplugged it and the port came half way out and now i cant get it to charge and im on 18% battery :S
Ill get my dad to ring T-Mobile later and send it off for repair
I had the same problem. I contacted T-Mobile & they told me I would have to pay the $100+ (dont remember the exact figure) insurance deductable for a new MDA.
So I did some googling & found a place called Chicago Phone Repair (CPR). I took it to them & the problem was fixed in about an hour for $80 (with a 90 day warranty). Then I went on vacation to Texas & the USB port broke again! Took it back & they repaired it for free, but this time they used a different part (its black) & its a lot more sturdy. That was about 6 month's ago, I've had no problems since.
I had 3 MDA's all returned for usb problems. I think this is actually pretty common, I'm sorry to say. I had to get mine replaced through T-Mo.
Good Luck.
Try posltd.com for USB connector for any xda
they have most in stock and fixed my wizard and universal for £60ish each

Just got my phone back from T-Mobile and...
Unable to repair "Damage caused by dropping or crushing"
They have had it for around a month now and not done anything apart from pushing the port right in and making the problem worse !
Im gonna fix it myself later.
That's very delicate work you're about to attempt -- if you're not an experienced electronics tech, I wouldn't chance it. Try PocketPCTechs -- they do repairs on most HTC devices.
Had the same problem. Just soldered myself, Take your time and a fine solderpoint and you will be ok.
have got a handful of usb connector for the wizard at £10 each plus £5 postage

mine didn't push in but it did stop charging. I live in the Chicagoarea so I took it to CPR. they replaced the USB port but it still is not taking a charge. very happy to say they didn't charge me anything even though they replaced the port. I am hopeing that the battery is just too drained to take a USB charge.
so I just bought a battery charger and an extra battery. I figure I can change the battery once a day and synce via bluetooth. I am just sad that I wil not be able to try different ROMs anymore unless by some fluke the usb port starts working again.
Will report back once I find out.
I was able to get my phone's USB repaired from xpress cellular repair for $51 and change. They take care of the problem while you wait and are generally done in under an hour. The staff is very friendly and knows what they are doing. They have locations in Los Angeles, Orange County (CA), Texas. Check them out on their website at http://www.xpresscellrepair.com for full details.
Tilt or TYTN II Mini USB repair on my own
Dear All,
I bought a used Tilt, works like a dream. Apart from the mini USB. The cable is loose in the slot, so charging and data transfer can only be done, then the phone lays on the table. If the phone is on charger and I want to answer a call, the cable falls off.
I already ordered a mini USB port and I want to do it myself. (I have no problems with soldering).
I was wondering if anyone already done something like this before. Could you give me some advices, photos, manual etc, which would help and which could help me to avoid irrevessible or expensive mistakes?
Thank you in advance.
same thing here
not easy to solder at all, had me struggling for hours, when i finally got it right, well, seems that it wasnt right, at least my phone charges, but there's no way it'll sync, and i did a pretty strong soldering so this would't happen again, so i don't think ill take it appart again..
btw, my wifi doesnt work, cant turn it on, and since my device wont sync, is there any way that i could fix this w/o using the cable?

No charge light

Everything was absolutely fine earlier this afternoon (then the phone got a bit hot while riding in my car) and now, It is not being recognized by active sync or any power sources. The amber light doesn't light. It has happened before but then "fixed" itself. Anyone have any experience with this? This has happened both with the original ROM and the AP rom I am running, so I don't know that it is a software based problem. Any ideas? (Yes, I have it turned off, I have pulled the battery out as well, the USB feels no different than it did before).

Are you under warranty? Since this sounds like a recurring hardware issue I'd get it replaced. I've never had this issue, even when I left it on the dash of my car for an hour this summer, directly in the sun (by accident). The screen protector bubbled up and it was almost too hot to hold, but it started right up and hasn't had any problems.
Have you tried a hard reset?
Definitely no warranty (this is one that I did the screen replacement on and worked flawlessly for over a week with no problems. It did this before the screen was broken as well.) I noticed that it does feel a bit loose (the USB) so I am opening it up and going to check the solders. I know I'm crazy for doing this but it's out of warranty and it is already broken, so.... why not? And yes, I've done a hard reset and it still is giving me fits.

well....
All solder joints seem good, no inordinate resistance, nothing out of the ordinary... the problem is further up the stream I am guessing.... so right now, it looks like I'm down my Advantage. May just end up selling it off for parts and getting a Diamond or some such for a replacement (can't afford another X75xx series phone right now...)... Brand new screen on it, and everything worked fine for a week but I think something in my car fried it... because my S621 died the same way recently... and my Asus PND fried as well....and all of them had one common thread. Being plugged in to my car for recharging purposes most of the time.

Galaxy s4 almost bricked

Hello. I want to start off and say that even tho i used a lot of phones Samsung fits me bets. With that in mind i want to tell the story of my broken s4 i9505. I bought it new and used it about 2 years until i got and iphone 5s. The phone remaind in a drawer with the intention of selling some time but forgot about it, then i used the phone once a week or so paired with moto 360 because iphone could not connect and used the watch only for time .(bluetooth worked fine remember this). Anyway i decided to sell it and i had all my apps and accounts in there so i thought the fastest way was to factory reset it and make it fresh so i can sell it (rom was not stock at the moment, i have no ideea what rom it was). I sold it to a friend that told me he wanted to pair something with it thru bluetooth and bluetooth didnt work...i sayd that it wasnt possible because all i did was a factory reset and that couldn't damage anything. Things got worse as the phone was charging very very slow and if it got over 90% baterry would not respond to anything (red led at 90% and got to green when full but still no response from phone) and the only thing to do is to remove battery. Then i took the phone back, got it a new battery but that didn't changed anything, took it to some repairs shops that didn't ever hear about this problem, i had it chance the software but that didn't do anything. The problem i suspect it is and i saw a few other posts online was the bluetooth module would stop working for some reason and do this to the phone. Currently i don't know what to do with it and i don't want to sell it just for part for 50 euros or so. Also i read that the bluetooth module can't really be changed as a spare part because it's part of the motherboard and that means almost all the phone. Phone is in mint condition, i didn't damage it before the sell , the buyer didn't damage it or messed with the rom...Another thing i noticed is that in settings under bluetooth address says unavailable. Can someone please help me ? I can provide more information about serials and stuff if needed. Also wi-fi doesn't work now.
Mine also show unavailable under Bluetooth address, but it works.
Are you currently on the stock rom?
Yes is stock. Android version 5.0.1 I9505XXUHOJ2. If i toggle bluetooth on says starting bluetooth then after 5 seconds it disables. I guess the problem is from hardware not software. So fast battery drain is not normal something is using a lot of energy.
As far as I know, the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules are in the same physical chip, therefore something might be physically broken. Here's a clip I came across while trying to fix my phone's Wi-Fi and I think it's exactly what might fix yours. (Should be very cheap to do too.) I think basically what he's doing is putting some flux on the board then reflowing it with the hot air gun.
Before taking that step, be sure to exhaust the possible software fixes. I'm not sure, but updating the bootloader and modem MIGHT fix it.
My wi-fi started working again it just took a while but the bluetooth does exactly the same as in the clip so maybe that's the problem. I don't understand why does so glue over it make it work...also for me it's hard to turn the phone off because the screen goes black but the blue led still stays on and the only way to turn it off completly is to take out battery. Maybe this will solve the battery problem aswell ?
