Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F/SM-G901F continuously restarts - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all members of xda, sorry for my bad english, i will try to explain what exactly is happening with my phone.
I power it on, it`s vibrating and appear "Samsung Galaxy S5........POWERED by android", and that`s all, it continuously restarts itself until i remove the battery.
I can`t enter in recovery mode, it`s restarting from there continuously too... In download mode i can enter, and there at PRODUCT NAME it says is SM-G901F, but under the battery is SM-G900F.
In download Mode this is all what it says: "ODIN MODE (HIGH SPEED)
Product Name: SM-G901F
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System status: Custom
REACTIVATION LOCK: OFF
Knox Warranty Void: 0x0
Qualcomm Secureboot: ENABLE (CSB)
RP SWREV: S1, T1, R1, A1, P1
Secure Download: ENABLE
UDC START"
This is all.
So, i think that boy from who i bought the phone tryed to root it or flash it with another rom?
Can anyone help me please? Thank you.

What it says the model number is when in download mode is what needs to be believed. There seems to be a lot of this lately.....devices being marketed/sold as the more popular 900F variant when they are not.
You have to get the correct firmware from sammobile or samsung-updates and flash it with odin. I doubt it's the person who sold it to you as apparently nothing can change the info in download mode, and the sticker says something else. The seller may have tried to flash a 900F firmware, but that is probably all he's guilty of......

Thank you @keithross39, i flashed it but for the first time when he booted up, he passed the "Samsung Galaxy S5....Powered by android" screen, appeared T-Mobile and then he restarts again...and it don`t work yet....keeps restarting itself...
I have and printscreen with odin when it passed but i can`t put it, after 10 posts only.
So what can i do next? Any ideas? Some roms? Thanks.

Try accessing recovery now you have flashed (Vol up, home and power keys together) and wiping cache and/or wiping data/factory resetting.
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg

@keithross39, appears in left up corner Recovery booting... but its restarting, doesn`t enter in recovery menu...

Can you tell me which version of Android you flashed?......
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg

This one DTM-G901FXXU1BPA2-20160125170733 @keithross39
5.0.2 from Germany (T-Mobile).

Try flashing this........
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24399994186369572
It IS for the 901F, but it's what the hosting website calls a 'repair' firmware.
So it is supplied as separate files that have to be loaded into their corresponding 'slots' within Odin. I'm guessing it will be unbranded too. But being a repair firmware, it stands a better chance of successfully flashing and booting than a normal firmware.
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg

Just finished to flash it and still keeps restarting, didn`t worked @keithross39

What about recovery now, can you access it and do the wipes?
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg

No, keeps restarting... What if the owner accidently flashed rom for G901F but the phone model is G900F? It can be?

Download mode says 901F.....
AFAIK the info in download mode is hardcoded into the device and can't be changed.....
I can't see how it'd be any other variant....
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg

Ok, so what i can do more? With box maybe it can be done? Or you don`t know @keithross39? I am very greatful for your time.

So far, everything you've tried would have put your device back to stock and wouldn't have affected knox.....
Knox is regularly used by Samsung to assess whether your device receives a warranty repair. As long as knox remains at 0x0 (as seen in download mode) your warranty is intact.....
Going custom is your only other option and that will trip knox and void your warranty. I can suggest how you can go custom, but it's up to you whether you want to torpedo your warranty when the ability to flash your device successfully is in question.
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg

@keithross39 the warranty expired. If you say that custom rom will make it work, i say let`s try it...

Don't get me wrong fella....I'm not saying this WILL work.....
There is an element of risk whenever you attempt to modify a device. As I said, I can provide you the information that *should* set you along the correct path, but at the end of the day there are never any guarantees, and it's down to you whether you want to take the risk or not
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg

Ok, i understand mate, i will take the risk, anyway what can go more wrong...

Lol....don't even *think* that sort of question, let alone type it on a public forum......
Ok....here goes, but first, the usual disclaimer....
"This information is provided for information only. Neither I, nor anybody else on XDA is liable if you choose to undertake the processes set out below. By choosing to complete the steps below, YOU are assuming responsibility for the working (or otherwise) condition of the device when the processes have been completed"......
Having said that, members of XDA will always voluntarily try to help you recover your device if things go wrong.
Get your TWRP from here.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/recovery-team-win-recovery-project-t3110930
Get your SuperSU from here.....
https://download.chainfire.eu/696/supersu/
Follow these instructions.....
1) deactivate 'Reactivation Lock' (can be found under Security in Settings).
2) copy SuperSU zip to your device/external memory card.
3) boot into download mode.
4) Odin flash TWRP.
5) DO NOT allow phone to boot, (uncheck auto reboot in odin and if necessary remove the battery as soon as the TWRP flash has completed) then.....
6) boot directly into recovery. (Vol +, Power & Home button combination)
7) flash SuperSU zip.
You now have root and can flash your choice of custom rom for your device.
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg

@keithross39, how can i make step 1? And i don`t know how to make step 2 neither... :-/

Step 1 can be (at least) checked by booting into download mode and reading the info on the screen. In your first post, your info showed that reactivation lock was off.....hopefully that hasn't changed.
Step 2 requires a micro SD card. You copy the SuperSU zip to that and put it into the phone.

Need help with a soft-bricked SM-T337V

My company issues the Verizon flavor of Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 for our users that are out in the field. It seems like this one particular user (or someone close to them) decided to try and root the device in order to get around the restrictions we have on them via a MDM client. When the tablet boots (even when trying to go into recovery via power+home+volume up) it goes to the triangle screen saying "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found. Please turn off and go to the nearest Verizon store". But unfortunately the store turned us away saying there's not much they can do. I am able, however, able to get it into download mode.
So far I've tried flashing the Verizon Stock 4.4.4 firmware, which I found searching around here, via Odin 3.10.7. It gives every indication that the process completed and shows the green "PASS" block up top. When the tablet reboots from flashing, it still goes to the triangle screen. Once the triangle screen comes up, upon reboot there's a lock at the bottom of the boot screen and the word "Custom", shown here: http://i.imgur.com/5PC0qeZ.jpg. It seems like maybe the bootloader isn't correctly being overwritten or something. When the tablet is in download mode, it says the following in the top left (after I've already flashed it a few times):
Odin Mode
Product name: SM-T337V
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Official
Reactivation Lock(KK): Off
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enable (CSB)
RP SWREV: S1, T1, R1, A2, P1

I'd like to think I'm not a total novice with this stuff, but I'm at a bit of a loss at the moment. Where should I go from here? I've read from a different thread about the note 3 that sometimes you have to flash the .pit file again in order to nuke the partitions, but so far I haven't been able to find one I feel comfortable enough to try.

note 4 SM-N910A black screen with blue notification light after samsung boot

Hi,
i'm having some trouble with my note 4. so i recived the note from a friend and she told me what was the problem. the problem is that she would turn it off then when she trys to attempt to turn it back on it will show the samsmung boot screen then all black with the blue and white(maby baby blue, i cant tell exacly)and sometimes boots a 2nd or 3rd time. leave it like that and the phone would start getting hot. so i used odin and installed a freash BL, CP, and CSC. then i left the phone withpout the battery for about 10 minute's then i put the battery back on and turned it on. it worked! but after a while i accidentaly turned it off. the same problem was back(i dont know if this is important but when ever u tryed to update the software it would alway's fail). so i thought why dont i just install freash clean OS and i whont have to face this problem again. i installed android 5.0.1 and it did not work, this time the blue adn white notification light was not on. so i installed it again but only the BL. the light was back. please help me on what to do or give me a link to a legitament clean OS. i've tryed every trick! pull out the battery then press and hold the power button to drain out the ramining power and leave the phone for about 10 min. try to go in recovery mode(when i try to do this, it goes all black also), install a clean freash OS, ECT. im running out of options! what should i do! it cant be the hardware because everything was working fine. it cant be the screen because i've personally seen the screen work perfectly fine, plus the samung boot logo( the "samsung galaxy note 4 powered by android" boot). i dont know what to do!
Reboot into download mode and see what firmware is on it. then download the latest MM 6.0.1 firmware and flash it with odin. Depending on the model, the BL may be locked to prevent flashing older firmware. If that doesn't work you may have to flash a pit file with the firmware but that is last resort. If you can take a picture of what download mode says and post it here it would be way easy to help you fix it bro

any help guys, much appreciated...took 20 mins just to type this message out.
thanks,
Harry.
The phone saying custom means root has been attempted or some other non official action. The boot image is corrupted or missing it sounds like. That's a soft brick. Download the marshmallow stock firmware for your carrier from sammobile, boot it in download mode and reflash the firmware. It should fix the issue.
Hi,and thanks for your help
I believe I have now downloaded the correct software as you instructed.
How do I install it please,,,would it be via odin? (I know a little about this program)
No joy

First - try another cable if possible.
Second - get this small program and download full factory firmware from Samsung server. It will contain the necessary pit file.
What CSC (regional code) do you need?
Have d/loaded samfirm but cant see how to use.......
trying to locate another usb lead
unure of what a region code is.... its used in the uk on Vodafone

Samsung has no UK Vodafone variant for S5.
If you still have the original box you can find "Model: SM-G901blablablabla" there on the sticker.
"blablablabla" contains regional code.

@harryj22
Here's a firmware for you.
You need to download it, unpack and flash via Odin.
There're 4 files in the zip. You need to point Odin to each of them in the appropriate slot.
I.e. AP_xxxx.tar.md5 in AP slot, BL_xxx.tar.md5 in BL slot and so on.
It's VD2 variant, Vodafone Germany.
Should work well in the UK, you only need to select English at the startup.

open odin (run as admin)
insert all files as instructed into each field
odin reads ....Fail

set pit file
do not turn off target
fail
re partition operation failed
all threads completed (succeed 0 / failed 1)
Phone reads...
odin flash read failiure
error there is no pit binary
pit fail total sectors (38375936)
Tried removing usb and plugging back in .but still the same result
I think its time for this phone to visit the bin.

Not so fast.
But the results look strange.
Please power off the phone and start it in Odin mode (hold power, Vol- and Home, after a message appears press Vol+).
It must look like here: http://dorylabs.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/samsung-galaxy-s5-download-mode.jpg
Now tell me what's there in "Product name: ???" Is it really SM-G901F or something other?
Is there the name of the product on the sticker under the battery?
One more chance: try to flash that firmware (4-files), but add pit-file before flashing.
You need to download and unzip it.
Insert 4 firmware files in Odin's slots and then insert pit-file.
Pit-file should be inserted in Odin's "Pit" tab, ignore the warning.
Note, this pit-file is for SM-G901F, VD2 firmware (exactly what you've downloaded from my cloud), it may not work with other firmwares.

So, if I understand correctly, the phone boots to this "Boot recovery mode" if you hold 3 buttons (Vol Down, Power and Home), right? Not "Odin mode"?
Well, what happens if you hold Power button for 15-20 sec. in this "Boot recovery mode"?

1. There is not such thing as boot recovery mode. That is a description of the problem. There are only four modes in which a powered-off S5 would go, no matter the version. Normal Boot, Recovery, Download Mode (sometimes known as ODIN Mode) and Charging Mode.
2. Your problem is that the sbl1 partition doesn't exist due to an emmc fail. Read the part i've put in bold. The bootloader is missing because your eMMC died. Go and get it replaced and stop wasting your time trying to load firmwares when it simply can't.

It's a logical assumption but not the only possible, I think.
That's why we're still talking about this phone.
The bootloader may be damaged because somebody tried to flash something wrong, for example. This is a more optimistic assumption and it has not been refuted till now.

To say the truth, I've never seen this screen before.
I don't know what it is and I'm sure you don't know too.
But look: in recovery the first line says "Android recovery", in Odin mode the first line says "Odin mode".
I've just assumed that the first line in this mode gives the same information.
As for the number of "boot modes", have you ever seen something like on the photo below?
So I want to say: I'd bet 10:1 you're right. But let's give OP a chance to test every possible option before this phone goes to trash.

1. This phone doesn't need to go into the trash. It can be fixed. I mean its fault is written right on screen: mmc_read failed. Isn't that English? Let me translate it for you: sbl2(aboot) can't read anything from the emmc.
2. For the past 3 years I have been running a phone repair shop in Akihabara where 80% of the customers that come in with a Samsung device have had either their eMMC or software go wrong. And in 99% of these cases, the phone was fixed just by changing the eMMC and rewriting all the bootloaders: NON-HLOS, sbl1, aboot, sdi, rpm and tz in that order.
3. In recovery, on my device, it says Team Win Recovery Project. Is it recovery? Yes. ODIN Mode or Download Mode are the same, the name is interchangeable.
L.E. This BOOT RECOVERY MODE looks more or less like Download/ODIN Mode. Except it has been hijacked by the error message (first like in red) and a very very lackluster information: mmc_read failed.
Well, what happens if you hold Power button for 15-20 sec. in this "Boot recovery mode"?[/QUOTE]

It is going to be VERY difficult because it requires a rework station, a new eMMC chip, flux, and balls (cojones) the size of the Hoover Dam to do it yourself without proper equipment or any know-how. The rework station is 3000$USD+ and the knowledge is priceless. I am really sorry.

Help with SM-T337V

A while back my friend gave me his tablet to try and fix. He was screwing around in odin and did a nand erase. From my research it seemed I needed a pitfile to fix it. This weekend I was clearing out some junk and found the tablet so decided to give it another try. I was actually able to finally find the pit file, so I downloaded odin, the pitfile, and the newest lollipop. In odin, I loaded the pit and selected repartition. Odin goes through the process, reboots the tablet to the little android guy it loads then reboots again and it hangs on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 screen and won't go any further. I can access recovery and download mode still and according to the recovery logs the OS installed and is there, it's like this thing isn't setting the boot partition correctly or something. Anyone have any experience with this, or able to tell me if I'm doing something wrong.

Test Device and aboot -2???

Ok so the phone i have is/was actually a G935T, and had G935T firmware (BRC1) even though it says G935A on the board inside the phone. I tried to flash a different firmware, foolishly without turning off FRP, or turning on OEM, yeah im dumb. I ended up being stuck with the SBL error upload mode and couldnt even get back to download mode no matter how many times i tried, eventually i learned about EDL mode and took the phone apart and shorted the TP and re programmed the phone etc. and got it back to download mode.
Everything i flashed would always be successful in Odin, however nothing would ever boot past the looping S7 edge boot screen and recovery on every single firmware would also loop and ultimately give me kernel panic errors. i began to suspect that maybe i left something unplugged inside so i took it apart again and tried to keep the heat shield pressed down a bit more (since i had to open it up to access the test point) as i assembled the phone back together. No more kernel panics, but the boot looping was still present. I have tried G935T, A, P, V and U firmware and all of them do the same thing. Ive used the proper PIT files.
To make things worse, i flashed Oreo without realizing that i was putting my bootloader in handcuffs. To make things even MORE worse, i used a tool which claimed to convert an odin archive to be ADB enabled. now my device boots and says S7 edge etc, but then immediately goes to SBL error upload mode. Recovery still loops. Whats interesting though, is that since i used the converted archive, my device says exactly this in download mode:
ODIN MODE (HIGH SPEED)
PRODUCT NAME: SM-G935A
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
FRP LOCK: ON
WARRANTY VOID: 0xffffffff (0x0)
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE fffffffe

RP SWREV: TEST DEVICE
SECURE DOWNLOAD: ENABLE
IDDQ: G(25), S(7) mA
CPU SERIAL NUM : 0X1b9cea13
Fused open loop voltage: 1030mv
RPMB PROVISIONED
Any help would be much appreciated. Its going on nearly a month now trying to get this thing to work. I dont care about warranty, i dont care about knox i just want my phone to work....i cannot find any information about test device, how to go back to system status official or how to properly reformat all partitions that effect FRP or whatever the hell is locking me out of it. Also i am now not even able to flash ANY firmware because it keeps failing saying something about aboot fused -2 and none of the firmware i have will successfully flash. Im stumped.
I called a repair shop today and they want to charge me $30.00 to flash it with what they have. That seems a bit high to be honest. Should only take about 10 minutes right?

Fuse -2 happened to my T380 Tab A tablet when I flashed wrong aboot and boot in the same TAR package.
So steps to fix it:
find the right combination firmware;
unzip it with 7zip archiver;
download TAR_MD5_PACKAGER;
open folder with unzipped comb_firmware and delete all files below from it:
-aboot,
-apdp,
-boot,
-devcfg,
-msadp,
-rpm,
-sbl1,
-tz.
copy all files what left to TAR_MD5_PACKAGER\parts;
start TAR_MD5_PACKAGER and press 1 to make tar file;
flash this file with Odin as AP;
now the fuse should switch to 1;
next flash the full combination file or stock firmware.
FUSE Number stands for software version,
samsung has protection against downgrading software,
So once you flashed firmware with number 2 in it, the device will change the fuse to 2 and after that
you will not able to flash anything less than with number 2 and so on.
S7 edge up and running
Dude thanks a lot!!! I read through multiple threads. Some more technical than others but this one was plain simple and it worked. Some of the files I deleted were a bit different, but hey, it got bit to work. One other thing for anyone experiencing the same issue, just look for a combination file matching your phones actual bootloader. Once you find it, just start deleting the files Odin is indicating are not letting the flash complete. In my case, files: hyp.mbn, pmic.elf, emmc_appsboot.mbn, xbl.elf. once I deleted those files I was golden.:laugh::laugh:
