Today I wanted to switch to CM13 which I found on this forum. I messed up, phone got stuck in a reboot loop, got it into download mode and put it back to a stock version. Now however, I am not able to root my phone using ioroot. This is all I get when I try to root my phone, then it just stops.
Code:
Enable ADB connection..
Developer Options unlocked and ON.
USB debugging ON.
Accept RSA key fingerprint.
Press any key to continue . . .
Waiting for ADB detection...
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
When trying to change to a different stock ROM with LG FLASH TOOL 2014 I get the following error when my phone is connected to my PC with MTP.
Code:
The phone is disconnected from PC.
Connect the USB cable and wait a moment. Press the Retry button to resume the setting analysis process.
My phone is still connected, pressing the retry button brings up the same message.
When I select LG Software instead of MTP I get the following error.
Code:
To try upgrade again, follow the steps below.
1. Disconnect the phone from PC and remove hte battery from the phone.
2. Insert the battery back and reconnect the phone to PC.
3. Turn on the phone.
4. Press the Retry button below to start the upgrade.
I can't remove the battery, pressing retry after a reboot brings up the same message.
Software information:
Code:
Android version: 4.4.2
Baseband version: M8974A-AAAANAZM-1.0.190084
Kernel version: 3.4.0
Build number: KOT491.D80220h
Software version: D80220h-EUR-XX
Hardware information:
Code:
Model number: LG-D802
Memory: 32GB
So what do I want to do? Switch from the current ROM to a different one, as that is currently not possible for me. After this I wil retry to put CM13 on my phone. I am out of ideas (not that much experience) so hopefully someone on this forum can help me out!

Hi,
You don't need to install any further firmware. Go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951
And root your device using the tool. It should root just fine.

After turning USB debugging off and on then using this I got a bit further.
Code:
Starting adb server...

Looking for LG serial port...
Serial port not found! please insert the phone manually into Download mode.
Disconnect the USB cable and turn off the phone.
Then press and hold the Volume Up button, and while you're doing that connect the USB cable again.
Waiting for device...
When I turn my phone off, hold the volume up button while plugging in my phone to my PC it just goes to the charging screen. I however did notice that if I reboot my device and switch to LG software from MTP in the "Select USB connection method" LG One Click Root continues and the following lines appear.
Code:
Waiting for device...
Phone found at COM3!
Rooting phone...
Then nothing happens. If I switch back from LG software to MTP again after this message the following message appears.
Code:

Done
Sounds great, so I went to check the root with Root Checker which says the following when I validate my root: "Sorry! Root acces is not properly installed on this device".
Would you have any other suggestions?

Then i would suggest you install kingo root and use that instead : https://www.kingoapp.com/root-lg.htm
Awesome worked, in hindsight I should've probably done some more reading up. Because I honestly have no idea what to do next. Should I install AutoRec,find a lollipop ROM install. Then root again, install AutoRec again, download CM13 together with GApps and flash these onto my device? I do realise that im starting to go off-topic, so if this is not allowed I'll post it in the official CM13 forum. Thanks for your help anyway!

You don't need to go through all of that.
First, make sure you have the latest TWRP downloaded to your phone along with the hybrid LP bootloader for your phone.
Then, download the CM13 Rom and GApps you want to use to your phone.
Install KK AutoRec and reboot into recovery.
Flash updated TWRP and reboot back into recovery, then hybrid bootstack and reboot back into recovery (not sure entirely necessary to reboot, but it always works for me). Then you can flash most Stock-based LP or most CM13 or AOSP MM roms.
---------- Post added at 07:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:26 PM ----------
One more thing - important! - take time to read through the thread of any roms you are interested in before flashing them. This will give you an idea of what, if any, issues you can expect and if any tricks are needed to get things working.

I have TWRP 2.7.0.0, downloaded the latest image from their websirte but for some reason im not able to install the image. I can't select the image within TWRP. The button that you would usually use to select images isn't there.
I've got a LG D802, so do I download the LP bootloader from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development/lg-g2-bootstacks-t3173715 ?

You can use Flashify from the Play Store to install the TWRP for your device. Make sure you look at blastgator 's TWRP in the G2 Android Development section as it has special thermal control for our devices that will help keep you from damaging your screen. It is also flashable.

Thanks for the heads up about the thermal problems, now on the thermal TWRP by blastgator. Downloaded the bootloader that I linked in my last post, flashed it and got stuck into a bootloop again. So now out of that bootloop, rooted again, and on TWRP 3.2.1-1 with thermal control. Should I try a different bootloader? Sorry for pretty much having to guide me through it with baby steps.

Problem is that I used a KDZ file to get the KK ROM on my G2 so I don't have any img. files.
You can kdz back or try getting back into recovery. If you get back to recovery, you might want to consider trying twrp 2.8.7.3.

KDZ'ing back means using the LG Flash Tool 2014? Because this doesn't seem to work as it says I haven't connected my phone to my PC, even tough it is connected. I cannot get back into recovery or download mode.
EDIT:
I just noted that the screen goes to black, so it's still on. No idead if this is important.

So you rooted and installed twrp. Then go ahead, make a full nandroid backup on an external usb via OTG and then try installing cm13 , follow steps provided by cm13 thread here.

I suggest go back to stock, upgrade till 5.0.2 lollipop and then root, install twrp via autorec and flash cm13. I did the same and it works. Lmk if you need further assistance.
Thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately I'm unable to enter download mode.

Hi,
If you are having issue shutting down your phone because it keeps booting back, then hold the power button ( keep holding it) until it goes black, reboot itself and goes black again. Then press volume up and insert usb into your pc to access download mode. It should fix.
If you simply cannot get into download mode, follow this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
LMK if it helped

I have tried getting into download mode that way, but it doesn't work (has worked previously). Problem with that link is that I used a KDZ file so I dont have any img files. djchru said I can "KDZ back into recovery" but I have no idea what that means.

Rooted my LG G2 (ATT) recently. Yesterday i got an error on bootup stating that system UI has crashed.. After that all hell broke loose. Phone when powered on only boots into the TWRP, friend thought he could "fix" the issue by doing a format on the device.. FML. SO now when trying to get into download mode to perform the Stock Rom/Unbrick process it just won't allow me to do anything. It just keeps booting into TWRP.
My laptop has all drivers needed, but phone won't be detected by my laptop..
Anyway how i can get my LG back to stock & working? Didn't have a custom rom or anything, only the Camera Mod which never gave issues..
The system UI came on before i did the Camera Mod by the way..

Copy a Rom on a USB stick and install it in TWRP via OTG, run back into TWRP and enter this line
start at the recovery, go to Advanced, then Terminal Command, press Select, use this code,
dd if=/dev/Zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota

Have you tried to use the "sideload" option to see if you can load a rom onto it yet? This requires that your computer sees your phone with the correct drivers and adb working too.
Did you try to do a complete wipe/reboot and see if you can get into download mode?
If none of those methods work then I'm not sure what to tell you. I ran into two problems only so far.
First one was when I accidently wiped everything and had to sideload a rom onto my phone.
Second, I took the OTA update and had the bootloop TWRP problem which was solved by using the LG Flash tool to flash the stock Sprint rom onto my phone by following the directions for the Verizon Method but used a Sprint rom and dll file.
If you can't sideload a rom or get into download mode then you have a major problem there but it could be just that you've overlooked something.

nope doesn't work.. Won't connect to PC... It did before fine.. Sideload is stuck at loading screen or something. I'll try loading rom onto USB & from usb to phone once i get an adapter for USB Female to Micro USB.
He got out.
I was stuck in the bootloop for about 6 hours before I realized I had the correct dll, and tot file, the correct utility from LGE, and I turned the noodle of a brick into a "unbranded" phone temporarily, until sprint came to the rescue, and branded everything back from the production image I loaded just earlier. I just wanna say this... DO NOT PLAY WITH PHONE DIALER CODES MEANT FOR THE KOREANS WHO TEST YOUR PHONE!!!
You can brick that **** fast as hell. TWRP kept coming in, and I didn't know how to deal with adb sideload, or the basic dd command to get things back to download mode. Now I have a real working knowledge of recovering from an otherwise hopeless state. Take your time, and explore slowly.
Your mileage may vary, just sayin'

I experienced this situation for a while.
The solution is doing a normal procedure to install custom rom from USB.
Just copy custom rom to USB, choose advanced wipe, then wipe dalvik, cache, data, and system. Then install custom rom in USB, and, reboot phone after installation finished.
Phone should be back to normal again.

Okay, this is must be my first thread since I join this lovely forum.
So here is the deal, this is my previous phone that I gave to my sister not so long ago, she has this not-so-bright wise *ss who try to fix her G2.
Sadly, he flashed the wrong rom, this is LG F320L and I think he flashed with F320K (based on error message that I got from the LG Flash Tool when I try to fix it)
This is the story so far :
1. the first time i got it on my hand (after get wrong-flashed that is ) :
- the phone is cannot boot, it stucked on black screen with fastboot command, try to go to recovery but not working, keep going to fastboot screen
- but i can still go to download mode (if I press vol UP while connect it to my PC) but somehow my PC will not recognize it
2. So I browse so many tutorial here and I end up erase and then reflash the stock recovery via cmd fastboot command, I'm 100% sure that I flashed the correct stock recovery file
- the process kinda work, the phone is able to go to recovery screen now although still cannot boot to system
- i still can go to download mode but the PC still didn't recognize it
- however, now the phone is being recognize by my PC if i plug the phone (without pressing anything on the phone), but gave me error code on the MTP driver
3. So next step I try to flash it via kdz method, didn't work of course, since my download mode won't be recognize, and then i also try to flash it via TOT method, also fail (again)
Note : on TOT method I try to flash it while NOT on download mode, since it will not recognized, it gave me error message that i try to cross flash or something. It says that I try to flash F320K to F320L (hence I assume that my sister's boyfriend flashed the wrong rom and got bricked)
also please note that while i'm did this i already make sure that i change the port setting to port 41
So now i stucked here, without the working download mode that can be recognized by my PC i think i'm start to running out of option to fix this phone
Please point me to the right direction good people of xda, please, thank you in advance

Okay, so at this moment does the device try to mount quite a lot of partitions? Also does it give any errors on the screen if you power on without trying to boot to download mode or recovery? Ideally we want to see something along the lines of security error.

thanks for your reply, i really appreciate it
well, you're right, it does give me errors when i power on (without trying to go to download mode or recovery mode)
so when i power it on, it shows LG logo then the image goes like corrupt, at first it kinda like shaking then it went blur and last it disappearing, leave the screen into just blank screen.
but my PC recognize it on this moment, just the MTP driver that wasn't
about your first question i'm afraid i can't catch what that means

Hmmm. okay, so what does the pc recognize it as exactly in device manager? Also if you connect the device do you get several pop ups stating that the mounted device needs to be fixed? It's just that if the partitions are being mounted we can reflash them manually using DD commands with ubuntu.

Right, you need to follow this guide i think. Ensure your read it fully before you attempt anything. Now, the lollipop update apparently changed some partitions so I would flash the bumped twrp from the development section instead of the 2.6.3.2 version recommended. Then once you can boot into recovery flash the rom recommended in this post

it's just like the pict that i attached
about the pop ups, no.. i don't think i got those, the only pop ups that appear was the small notification on the bottom right panel that the drivers is being installed, and keep failing on the MTP driver, maybe that's why my PC can't recognizes it under the download mode

if you open disk management what does it say about the g2? also did you install the universal adb driver at any point? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51265001&postcount=30 here it states that installing the universial driver will show your device as a samsung.

okay, i just checked on disk management and it appear that my PC doesn't recognized the G2, what makes it weird, at the same time it recognizes the G2 on device manager on ports (COM & LPT) on port 41, about the adb yes, i do believe i did that long time ago, though i forgot what was my intention of doing so

Hmmm. im stumped. I think its a bit of a catch 22 here. What i think has happened is that the rom flash that was done has changed some of the partition layout, but the methods of fixing that issue is either with DD commands from a custom recovery (which you dont have and cannot flash) or with DD commands using ubuntu when the device is auto-mounting all of your partitions. Its worth a look if you have an ubuntu disk around, if not download here, burn to disk or mount it to a bootable usb and see if ubuntu has any luck with it. Either that or try installing any drivers you can on the pc to get download mode working.
there is also this as a last resort but i've never had to do this so i cannot vouch for it :-/ Good luck pal.
Yeah, i do these.
I used these tool >> https://doc-04-5c-docs.googleuserco...27034/0B_Hol5T47S-benVFYWIxcGlQU0k?e=download
and install bumped recovery 2.8.5.1, then next with otg cabble flash these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59079665&postcount=536.
and now i install cloudyg2 and i feel great xD thank you!

I've been going through quite a lot of headache just trying to root this old LG G2 (D801) of mine, and would really appreciate some help. First, I tried to go through the normal steps of ioroot. After having to perform some unknown button combination to access the stock recovery (which I could only do with random, continuous button mashing), I am greeted with an error about adb being outdated whenever I try to sideload the "datroot.zip" file. I eventually realized that, somehow, after trying to (and failing to) sideload adb is temporarily changed from 1.0.32 (as required) to 1.0.31, as I can see when I simply enter "adb" in the command prompt before and after attempting to sideload. Some Googling later eventually reveals that renaming adb.exe to something else (in this case I changed it to androiddb) fixes the problem, as it indeed does for that. I then, however, get it to sideload to what seems to be between 50-60% before it fails and the phone spits out the following:
"E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted"
On the command prompt's side, it says this at the same time:
"loading: 'datroot.zip' adb server is out of date. killing...
* daemon started successfully *
Total xfew: 1.22x"
After every attempt of Googling around for this, everyone seems to say that I need to use TWRP or CWM instead of the broken stock recovery, and from there just install the file as I've done before on different devices. The problem here is that, to my understanding, I actually need root in order to install a custom recovery, is that not the case? If so, how can I root in this situation if I can't install a recovery, which in turn requires me to root beforehand? If I could get any sort of guidance and hopefully regained sleep, I'd be greatly appreciative, as I'm sure you guys know far more about this kind of stuff than I do. Thank you.
try LG one click root .
Install latest adb drivers, enable USB debugging . connect USB to computer ,put the device on mtp interface. now click on the start button on LG one click root . If the tool stuck at 90% on computer (0% on firmware update screen on mobile) and if this happen couple of times just restart the phone by long pressing the power button while it's connected to the computer . It should then show 100% . After reboot look for supersu in device menu . It should get installed on your phone. If u cant then try the same procedure again. Use root checker to confirm .
And AUTOREC to install TWRP

Done
Okay, I was trying to load android 6.0 on my oneplus one and I don't have any idea what I've done. I was following the instructions in this video https:/ /m.youtube.com/.watch?v=x8zuQcJHQy4 but I wanted to try to do it without using my laptop. So I downloaded the gapps from here http: //opengapps.org/ directly onto my phone. I restored my phone back to factory setting from the settings menu on my phone, and then tried to follow the instructions from the YouTube video. So I removed my existing op system and then tried to install the the new gapps from the recovery menu. The instal failed, so I went back and fired up the laptop and started to follow the instructions in the video. The problem is that my laptop won't connect with my phone for some reason. I plug it in to the computer but it won't recognize my phone. So I am unable to transfer the new gapps from my laptop to my phone. Now the problem is that my phone will not start up, it just sits on the starting screen (picture attached). What do i do?! I should mention that I have no idea what I'm doing if that isn't already extremely obvious. Please help!
Look as you described there maybe more than one solution to this..
As for me the easiest method would be is to flash a custom recovery by going into fastboot mode. And from there you can boot into your recovery and transfer whatever files you need from laptop to your phone. Then flash your custom ROM.
Recovery link : https://twrp.me/devices/oneplusone.html
Custom ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/rom-ressurrection-remix-m-t3270147
Look my advice is don't make this whole process as few steps guide.
Divide it into small parts like first installing recovery. Then second part flashing custom ROM. It makes its easy. And for individual part you can find tutorial online.
Thanks me if I have helped and if you have any more doubt PM me.

i started this process for the "recovery" in the link you gave me and i cant complete the instruction that tells me to go into the device settings and tap on the build number 7 times. I can even start the phone enough to get into the settings area. Any ideas?
Just go into fastboot mode and flow the given instruction..

By fastboot do you mean where I power it up and hold the "down volume" button for a few seconds??
OnePlus One Fastboot
Power Down the OnePlus One
Press and Hold the Volume Up and Power Button at the Same Time
Hold These Buttons Down Until You See the Text “Fastboot”
When You See the Text “Fastboot”, Let Go of the Power and Volume Up Buttons

In order to issue commands to your OnePlus One via tools like ADB and Fastboot, you need to boot your device up into Fastboot Mode. So, instead of allowing your OnePlus One to boot up into regular Android, you are going to do something special which tells the device to boot up into Fastboot Mode. This might take you a few tries until you get the hang of it. There’s no need to panic or worry if you get it wrong. Simple power down the OnePlus One again and give it another shot.

1. You need configured fasboot tools first.
2. Flash twrp using fastboot
3. Reboot to recovery
4. Connect your phone with the computer
5. Copy ROM and gapps to your phone and disconnect.
6. Make a full wipe in recovery
7. Flash ROM and gapps
8. Reboot
1. Follow this guide on setting up adb and fastboot - http://lifehacker.com/the-easiest-way-to-install-androids-adb-and-fastboot-to-1586992378
2. Download twrp-3.0.2-0-bacon recovery from here - https://dl.twrp.me/bacon/
3. Put the recovery image in the same folder fastboot and adb exe is.
4. Put your phone in fastboot mode and connect to pc
5. Open a command prompt and type "fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-bacon.img"
6. Do Not issue the fastboot reboot command, instead press and hold power and vol down till phone reboots into recovery
I give up, i'm way over my head. I cant do any of this **** because I can't even get the right ****ing usb driver on my computer so it even recognizes my phone. I've tried three different methods and none of them work.

Don't give up.
That's pretty simple if you follow the guide below TO THE LETTER.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guides-bacon-timmaaas-how-to-guides-t2839471
Basically, you just erased the Android operating system from your phone. The gapps is NOT the Android system. Gapps stands for Google Apps (play store, calendar, youtube, etc...). They are just additional apps, like Office for Windows for example.
Good luck!

*EVERY ACTION YOU PERFORM FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK*
That to be said, let's start: i am currently running the latest official nightly build on my d855 and it took me a while to get there. I couldn't find any (real) step-by-step-guide, where i would not have to google any errors or anything else.
Everything you find here is NOT my own knowledge, it is just compilation of sources, that i found on the internet.
Note:
Android 6.0: if you are on 6.0 and you always updated so you're on the latest security-patch-level the one-click-root-method won't work. I recommend downgrading your phone, which will be explained in the following.
Android 5.0: if you're on 5.0 you need to upgrade to 6.0 anyways, bc you need a different baseband-version to install LineageOS. This will also be explained in the following.
1. Make a backup of your phone
this is recommended, although i didn't do this, this is why i am not gonna explain it one here. I just saved my pics and contacts and did a factory reset, restarted my phone, did all the "first time turned on stuff" and connected to my wifi.
Note: Make sure your phone is charged to 60% at least
2. Download the following
a. Download LG G3 Drivers 4.0.4 and install them (i believe there are more recent ones, but this worked for me)
b. Download LG UP
- Download: LG UP Ver. 1.14: LGUP_Install_Ver_1_14_3.msi and LGUP_8974_DLL_Ver_0_5.MSI
- Make sure to install the DLL first and then the other .msi
SOURCE: Thanks to hyelton
c. Download the proper KDZ for you phone.
Note: I got this infos from a german site.
This is the 30C KDZ for the 32gb AND 16gb version: Download here
SOURCE: Thanks to mr bo
3. Downgrade/Upgrade your android-version
1. Turn off your phone.
2. Run LG UP (the tool you just installed) and press okay when you see the error message, that no phone is connected.
3. Press "Volume Up" on your phone and HOLD it, connect your phone to you computer via USB 2.0 PORT! This is important, bc connecting via 3.0 won't let LG UP recognize your phone.
4. Your phone is now in download-mode and LG UP should have recognized your phone.
5. Press SELECT, click on UPGRADE, then click on FILE PATH, choose you prefered .KDZ.
6. i recommend refurbishing your phone (This will wipe your entire system and make a clean install).
CLOSE LG UP and start it back up. The .KDZ should still be there. Now select REFURBISH and click on START. Wait until 100% completed and you phone has booted up completely.

4. Root your phone
1. Download the latest kingroot.apk from here.
2. Connect your phone (turned on, after all the "first time turned on stuff") and move the .apk to your Download-folder.
3. Open the (stock) filemanager on your phone and navigate to Downloads.
4. Install the kingroot.apk (enable third party .apk, when asked)
5. Open the app and root your phone (it's simple, believe me).
6. Your phone is now rooted (leave it turned on, DON'T restart)
5. Install TWRP and update to the latest version
1. Download this pack and unzip it.
2. Move the AutoRecMMD855.apk to your phone and install it just like kingroot.apk before.
3. Open the app and follow the instructions.
4. You now got TWRP on your phone.
SOURCE for #4 and #5 till here: Thanks to tute123456
5. Boot into recovery mode (either with the app itself i think or manually. If you have to do it manually. Turn of your phone. Press POWER and VOLUME DOWN at the same time until the screen shows soemthing. Release and immideatly press again. Your phne will ask you if you want to FACTORY RESET. Press YES and YES. If everything is working properly, TWRP should start up).
6. Connect your phone and download the latest TWRP.img you. In example here's the european one Latest LG G3 TWRP EUROPE
7. I assume you never disconnected your phone since moving kingroot.apk to it. So now you just move the TWRP.img to your Download folder.
8. Choose INSTALL on your phone and search for the TWRP.img. Select RECOVERY and flash it.
9. Choose REBOOT and then RECOVERY.
10. Your phone will boot into TWRP again. It should be updated to the latest version 3.0.2-0.
SOURCE: Thanks to everyone who contributed
6. Flash LineageOS and install GApps
1. Download the latest version of LineageOS (nightly) from here
Optional: make a backup of your phone using TWRP and safe it on your pc or internal SD Card, bc in the next step you will wipe your entire system, to get a clean installation.
2. Press WIPE in TWRP and select ADVANCED WIPE. Select everything but "Micro SD Card" and perform the wipe. This will wipe your entire system!
3. Move the .zip file to the Download folder on your phone and press INSTALL in TWRP. Search for the .zip and flash it.
Note: you'll see two red error messages. This is normal!
4. Wipe cache and dalvik as recommended.
5. Download your desired Open GApps package from here. Use "ARM" and "7.1", i recommend the "mini"-package.
6. Move the downloaded file to your Download folder on your phone and flash it just like you did the LineageOS file.
7. Wipe cache and dalvik.
8. In the main menu of TWRP choose REBOOT and then SYSTEM.
9. It will take a while to boot up, don't worry, just leave it there.
10. You succesfully installed the latest LineageOS build on your phone - you can now unplug your phone from your PC also :good:

as far as i know LineageOS doesn't have an inbuilt root access (so far) like cyanogenmod did. you can only enable root access via adb in the developer options.
i did not root lineageOS myself so far, but you can try the following:
- Download superSU.zip from their official website and flash it via TWRP.
i would appreciate it, if you would share the outcome

LineageOS does have built in root management, but it doesn't ship rooted by default.
This change was made so SafetyNet doesn't get triggered by root and you can use Android Pay on your device.
Just download the su zip from LineageOS download page and flash.

I am stuck on this step. My d855 gets into download mode and LG UP recognizes the phone, but I'm getting the "You have to select a known model, please" error in LG UP. I have uninstalled and reinstalled LG UP and the DLL multiple times, same problem. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, and I tried other drivers, same problem. I tried the tip in another thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089) to change the port to COM41 in device manager, but it didn't help. Btw I also unrooted my d855 (it has 4.4.2 currently) in case that's why the tool couldn't recognize it. Please help!!
Also @hyelton if you can help...
@engmia since you were helping me earlier...
Thanks.

hi supperbowl,
are you sure you're using a USB 2.0 port and the original LG-USB-Cable, that came with the phone?
as far as i experienced it, 4.4.2 should not be an issue.

Have you tried it with the phone booted into the OS? With USB debugging on? Also if running 4.4.2 why not just use the old method?

No I've only tried it with download mode. I have USB debugging enabled in the OS. I am now trying the old method with LG flash tool, so far I'm getting stuck with the LG mobile support tool which keeps saying "upgrade stopped due to an error".
Edit: LG UP doesn't recognize the handset at all with it booted into the OS.

Yes it's USB 2.0 and the original cable.

LG UP doesn't recognize the device at all with it booted into Android, the "Model List" comes up empty.

And USB debugging enabled?
If it's at least detecting unknown device while in download mode it most definitely should show up in lgup when boot up.
Choose MTP mode? And it's not just in "charging mode" or try vice versa?

Yes, USB debugging is enabled and my computer is allowed permissions.
Yes it's MTP and I also tried charge only and LG software modes. With LG Software mode it comes up with the unknown device in the model list again.

what also worked for me once was just retrying the process --> turn off, go into LG UP, go into download-mode. if LG UP does not recognize the phone: put the battery out of your phone, close LG UP and start the process again (also with different USB ports and other USB-Cables).
Hello,
Need to have unlocked bootloader ? Work on SEA version ?
You did not installed LG UP DLL properly
