I've been going through quite a lot of headache just trying to root this old LG G2 (D801) of mine, and would really appreciate some help. First, I tried to go through the normal steps of ioroot. After having to perform some unknown button combination to access the stock recovery (which I could only do with random, continuous button mashing), I am greeted with an error about adb being outdated whenever I try to sideload the "datroot.zip" file. I eventually realized that, somehow, after trying to (and failing to) sideload adb is temporarily changed from 1.0.32 (as required) to 1.0.31, as I can see when I simply enter "adb" in the command prompt before and after attempting to sideload. Some Googling later eventually reveals that renaming adb.exe to something else (in this case I changed it to androiddb) fixes the problem, as it indeed does for that. I then, however, get it to sideload to what seems to be between 50-60% before it fails and the phone spits out the following:
"E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted"
On the command prompt's side, it says this at the same time:
"loading: 'datroot.zip' adb server is out of date. killing...
* daemon started successfully *
Total xfew: 1.22x"
After every attempt of Googling around for this, everyone seems to say that I need to use TWRP or CWM instead of the broken stock recovery, and from there just install the file as I've done before on different devices. The problem here is that, to my understanding, I actually need root in order to install a custom recovery, is that not the case? If so, how can I root in this situation if I can't install a recovery, which in turn requires me to root beforehand? If I could get any sort of guidance and hopefully regained sleep, I'd be greatly appreciative, as I'm sure you guys know far more about this kind of stuff than I do. Thank you.
try LG one click root .
Install latest adb drivers, enable USB debugging . connect USB to computer ,put the device on mtp interface. now click on the start button on LG one click root . If the tool stuck at 90% on computer (0% on firmware update screen on mobile) and if this happen couple of times just restart the phone by long pressing the power button while it's connected to the computer . It should then show 100% . After reboot look for supersu in device menu . It should get installed on your phone. If u cant then try the same procedure again. Use root checker to confirm .
And AUTOREC to install TWRP

I screwed up.
I just experimented with enabling phone mode on that device, after i had it rooted.
so i modified recomipled and signed the framework.apk but i had a typo in my script and the name of the new file is botched up.
My device instantly crashed of course. This is pretty forward to fix once i get access to /system in any way.. also i have a backup of that file on the pc.
Needless to say, without framework it wont boot. I *can* however get into recovery. but there is no adb option in there.
while i am in that menu, the pc recognices the device as "lenovo adb composite" but the adb does not seem to recognize it.
The drivers are set up correctly. the adb worked on the fully running device before the crash. (obviously, since i rooted it that way)
Any suggestions?
and what is the recovery menu point "download cap-firmware" doing exactly?
any help and potential helpfull links very much appreciated, i googled half the night and found next to nothing..
Solved
Solved.
appearantly the decive announces itself slightly differently in this mode.
solution:
The aur version of adb (arch linux) handles this correctly. no drivers needed.
so for all having problems, with this device, my recommendation for now: archlinux or archbang bang live, "packer -S adb" .. "adb shell"

sure thing.
as always first check, that all batteries are charged. (laptop, tablet, ..)
** first you need to enable usb debugging in the menu.
** then plug it in and check on windows that it is recognized properly.
it should show up as "lenovo(or android) composite adb interface" somewhere in device manager.
otherwise tell me, and i'll try to find the proper drivers. (on archlinux it worked without drivers, so if you fail on windows for some reason, that is an option too,)
** after that you need this:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/31794772/Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v15.rar
i don't remember where exactly i found this on xda-deverlopers. credits to whoever put that up in the first place, sry.
** choose option 1 in the script.
follow the instructions on the tool. it will ask you at some point to push restore on the tablet, no worries, this is completely intended you wont loose any data if it works right. just leave all fields blank and hit restore.
congrats, you are now rootet. the device might require a reboot and might do that from itself (dont remember)
:good:
ps: doing backup like this first is generally a good idea: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420351

valravn,
Can you please elaborate a bit on modifying the framework.apk?
The solutions I found require flashing a whole rom which I wouldn't like to do (looks like I got the tablet with the latest FW).
Your help will be much appreciated.
Thanks.
I think i bricked my ideatab. i tried to update the CWM via ROM Manager unfortunately when i restarted the device, it got stuck on the menu showing "Press and select the Country Code". after pressing and selecting one of the choices it will just restart and return to the same menu.
Can you please help me guys? thanks in advance.
I used the toolkit for mac and it unlocked me, but when it came to the next steps it said device not found and then told me to highlight recovery and press start, when I do I get the android with the red ! symbol.
Can someone help me?
That symbol is a security feature within the stock recovery, volume up and power to access the stock recovery.

I tried that it's not working I press up then power the phone reboots and the red ! symbol shows up...
I searched and saw hold power and press up when I see the red ! but it just reboots the phone...

For me also Stock recovery never worked. Just try to flash CWM or TWRP.
Btw, What toolkit did you use and how did you install the drivers. Please answer these, so that someone can help you better.(Or is it just the 'mac toolkit' ?)
My suggestion: PLZ DO NOT USE TOOLKIT. If you are stuck at some point while using the toolkit, then you'll not know what went wrong and how you can correct it. Do it manually. It is the most hassle-free method. Trust me.
I think that ADB will not work in stock recovery(may be you can boot normally into your phone and then try adb). The thing which you are looking for is 'fastboot'.
1) Restart ur phone (Power Button + Volume Down, i guess) and land in the bootloader and connect your phone to PC.
2) In CMD prompt(or Terminal), type 'fastboot devices'. If your device gets listed here, then fastboot is working and drivers are properly installed. If not, then drivers are not properly installed in your PC. You need both ADB and FASTBOOT drivers. Install them properly.
PS: For MAC, i think the command is slightly different. Something like './fastboot devices' . Please look for the same in this forum or just google it and find out.
3) Follow this guide for flashing CWM and Rooting.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2266654
4) For properly installing the Drivers, read " A. Install the drivers " in the below thread (actually you can read the entire thread )

I used the nexus 4 Mac rootkit I found in here.
It unlocked my phone fine. But when it came to installing a recovery and root it didn't.
Neither my adb or fastboot are working now before I unlocked and I messed around and they worked now nada ...
I went to YouTube saw my problem tried pressing volume up and power like in the video and it just gives me a black screen and either turns the phone off or reboots it normally...not sure if in supposed to hold power and let go of volume or vice versa.
I placed all the files on the storage I just need to access stock recovery which I strangely cannot now...
Tried framearoot and got nowhere.
Very frustrating

Just as I mentioned, i also had the same problem with stock recovery. So I simply flashed a Custom one(CWM, in my case)
Get the ADB and FASTBOOT working and that'll solve your recovery problem. Try fiddling with your drivers again. Not sure how to do that in MAC. If FASTBOOT is working, the you can boot into a Custom Recovery(you need not even flash it) and perform whatever you need to.
fastboot -c "lge.kcal=0|0|0|x" boot customrecovery.img
Again, look at the efrant's guide i referred above; i took this from there only.Remember to replace 'customrecovery.img', with the actual downloaded custom recovery image name.
Or you can try posting your problem with the toolkit, in mac toolkit's thread.
I have been youtubing everything and finally got to
Reboot system
apply update from adb
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition.
I now can get adb working so I tried ./adb sideload cwm from my desktop and it is giving me signature verification failed. installation aborted.
What can I do to resolve this?
I searched xda and no one can solve this issue from the threads I've read.
I fixed it! Whooohoooo! Installed cwm and root ....now to install pa rom.
Thanks for the help!

Hi,
I recently updated to the official 4.4.2 kitkat update.I then proceeded to root the phone, and then stupidly, installed CWM. I rebooted, and was greeted with an endless LG Splash screen. Now, I tried a HEAP of ways to restore to stock, all of them returning the same problem, my computer won't pick up my phone. In download mode, nothing happens, nothing in device manager, and same when I'm stuck on the LG splash screen. When I go into CWM, it then recogizes my phone, but the methods of restoring to stock won't work with CWM running in the background. CWM also won't let me mount the usb...
The methods return the same error: Phone not detected, please plug the USB cable and retry.
Ubuntu won't recognize the phone in all three modes, and another computer does the same thing. (Both Windows 8)
Methods of stock restoration tried:
-KDZ
-LGMobile support tool
-Ubuntu (This: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142)
Can anyone help?

Hi, sorry to post in this 1 year old post buy mt G2 is totally dead, I can sometimes get LG Logo and the main problem is i cannot get it into QHS-USB mode or anything.
Is there any key combinaison to do that ?
Hello Everyone,
I've been looking around and can't seem to find any guide I can get to work.
A couple months ago, I rooted my LG G2 and installed Cyanogen mod successfully. After a couple days, for some reason I restored to a backup I made back before I installed Cyan, so it was just on the Stock OS. A couple days later my phone tried to update itself and it bricked it. I was an idiot and wiped everything for some reason so theres nothing on there but the LG logo and then it goes to TWRP.
So now I'm not quite sure what to do. I can adb push and sideload just fine, but I've tried pushing a zip with the stock OS and installing it but everytime it just says it failed. Ive also pushed cyan on again and it says successfully installed and then just goes back to TWRP again. Can anyone help me with what to do from here? Do I need a certain tool to re install the OS? Will pushing it and then installing it with TWRP not work?
thanks!
Reflash lg g2 stock rom .

How would I go about flashing the stock rom?
Ive been trying to use this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
But every time I try to use the "Automatic offline procedure" I get an error saying permission denied. I made sure the drivers and everything were installed
Any ideas?
Right click - Run as administrator.
Or do it manually
https, window enabler..etc.
Alright, so I was able to do it manually, but in the instructions it says to enable usb debugging. Just to clarify my phone is basically stuck in TWRP, so will this even work?
My comp doesnt even recognize my phone as an LG G2 it says something like ADB galaxy nexus.

That's ok.
Open cmd line where your adb is. Put some rom inside.
Let's say the rom is : mycoolrom.zip
adb push mycoolrom.zip /sdcard/mycoolrom.zip
then flash it.

I want to install custom ROM on my Zenfone 5.
Things you should know:
.. Phone OS completely corrupts unable to boot the device (even android logo also not appear)
.. It is not showing charging symbol also when connected to charger/usb
.. Phone never boots into recovery mode (it is just restarting(vibration)! and stay idle)
.. It has TeamWin recovery project that appear after 30 mins of charging (useful!!)
So, can anybody tells me how install custom ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-5/orig-development/beta-cyanogenmod-12-1-tank0412-t3285392) please don't say boot into recovery mode and do some adb/fastboot commands it is not working (volume up+power or any combination). It is just showing one big red charging bar symbol without charging.. and some times TeamWin which may helpful because it has filemanager and I can browse but I don't know how to install with that.
If you have any ideas please share me..
Thanks
You can put rom on the external sdcard and install it after TWRP booting.
But i think that something wrong with bootloader on your phone so you should try to make unbrick.

Hard bricked device - Just like it's name, your device is dead. It behaves like a real brick. You can have no operation on pressing the power button.
So we can make a conclusion: soft bricked device can’t be defined as "BRICKED"; the hard bricked device is the real "DEAD & BRICKED", and it can't be unbricked. Sorry for the answer to how to unbrcik hard bricked Android phone.
This is the situation of my phone and whenever I flash a zip file from TWRP I'm getting following error..
"E: Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/.....zip'"
I'm googling this error but unable to get anything(trying some of the one plus one solutions to the similar problem).. Please help me..

It looks like you use TWRP by Knone which is broken a bit. So you should install TWRP by quanganh2627.
Try to flash this package via TWRP:

Yes, I'm trying that but the problem here is I'm unable to flash TWRP now (Run the command prompt - wait for device - phone starts several times but only big red battery symbol without charging/usb cable showing red bar below - boot into installed OS) that's it without flashing the TWRP phone reboots and command prompt still waiting for device even device already booted.
Interestingly now the battery showing 100% directly (I don't know ! whether it is actual figure or something goes wronng!) but still my IMEI is empty and I want to install stock ROM on this device for this purpose.
Note: still power + volume up/down to goto recovery mode not working
