Some folks have noticed that the radio's included with marshmallow remove band 12 from the list of available lte bands. I've created some flashable radio zip's that allow you to go back to the radio for 5.0.2. This has been confirmed to restore band 12 functionality while still allowing you to run marshmallow. No additional changes are required or expected. It ONLY updates the radio. To my knowledge t-mobile is the only provider using band 12. I've included some others for folks having connectivity issues on variants other than the 6045i. Please report in if it restores your band 12 access. The flashable zip files are at: https://mega.nz/#F!u0UBAICD!DzKYnswfK5J6dw5WQNgEDg
These should be flashable via TWRP and for the 6045i at least I've also included the 6.0.1 radio so you can go BACK if you run into any strange issues. Hope it helps someone.
*update* I've added a flashable zip named 6045X_Backup_Modem_to_sdcard.zip to the folder as well as a readme with general instructions for people wanting a radio not already in the folder. Basically you get someone not yet on marshmallow from the same country you are in to run that zip in twrp and it will put a copy of their modem at /sdcard/modem.img. Get that file to me and I'll make a flashable zip for it.

I pretty much indicated the band 12 usage was for 6045i users...are you saying you had band 12 (t-mobile only I believe) before?
Hi @famewolf
First of all thanks for this, but it do not work for me or other users especially from Spain, in other zones from Europe it works and i and more other users of the 6045Y versions start thinking that this could be a problem for Spanish versions, so i think we could do a update zip of the modem/radio especially for Spanish users and to do this it will be great if you could help us with the process to create it.
Note: Of course i done all tutorials to make LTE work without successful.

Have someone still on 5.0.2 run the backup_all.sh if on linux or the backup_all.bat while the phone is connected via usb. Upload and post a link to the modem image along with listing the specific model and I'll create a flashable zip for that model/region. The 6045Y radio in the folder comes from france. Is band 12 available to you in spain?

Band 12 is not available in Spain, only 20, 7 and 3 LTE bands are accessible in Spain, and we can't access to it.

Do you really know that BAND 12 is used in Europe?
I cant see any country in Europe that uses LTE BAND 12, so this is pointless for 6045Y users.

Your question haven't any relation with the text you quote , i'm saying same you told me. The question is that the bands in radio zip posted here to 6045Y model don't work for Spain, because modem is from France and bands in France and Spain are bit difference.
This radio zip is working for some people in Europe but not for Spain.
I'm not trying to come back band 12, i'm trying to come back the band needed in Spain (if it's possible).

The band 12 question was strictly on my part...they were always focused on getting lte working again. To my knowledge only T-mobile (in the USA) uses Band 12. I am curious if T-mobile uses Band 12 anywhere outside the USA though.
How's your phone? You didn't reply to my other post asking.

Having mediocre reception since upgrading to stock MM in USA and I think this could resolve my issues.
The thing is I've never rooted the phone, so I am guessing I have to revert to 5.0.1 and then root the phone and then upgrade to MM and then flash the modem?

Well..technically you don't have to be rooted to flash twrp and that's the only requirement to flash the modem zip...the problem you will have is I've heard mobile q is flashing marshmallow for the 6045i now.....so you'd have to flash the panasonic eluga switch software to get back to 5.0.2...flash twrp....then upgrade to mm using one of the rom's in android development so they won't wipe out your twrp. I saw at least one person say the factory rom won't wipe out your twrp either but I wouldn't risk it.
Down here in the Tampa bay area band 12 is everywhere for cricket wireless it's literally the only lte band I am always on from Tampa to spring hill. I cannot risk using an mm build till I know for sure I can get band 12 back on the cricket 6045O. No complaints about the cm12.1 build marionette has going tho it's great. I'm still tweaking the CPU settings to get the bat life up a bit more. I'm looking at around 5-6h sot right now which includes running summoners war for 2-3 of those hours so not bad for 5.x

Cricket uses band 12 heavily in Florida for sure, and I thought cricket was part of att network.
Quick question famewolf, can I get the files necessary for modem flashing for the 6045o from the stock unrooted backup I made of the stock firmware? Its a backup made right after I activated the phone using the instructions from the thread in this forum. Boot and system image twrp options I believe.

A 6045O modem flashable zip is already available in the modem folder. The folder now includes two additional flashable zips that allow you to back up your OWN modem to /sdcard/modem.img and the 2nd zip will flash it back to the modem partition. This should take care of just about any scenario. Details in the Readme.txt in that folder.
As you stated however, TWRP only does system and boot by default...it's not going to handle modem, aboot, spl, hyp, rpm, tz, etc.........

Hey that is good enough for me, I'll play with it next time I get 2 days in a row off, thanks for all the volunteer service you do for us. I definitely would not have got this phone if not for the epic work of the idol 3 xda community!
On cm 12.1 marionette this 129 dollar phone performs as well or better than my coworkers high end stock Samsung and apple devices, heh. And they spent crazy money on them or have 2 year contracts with added monthly phone payments, ouch!
Well Alcatel gets props too, the design of the phone is solid and the display really is beautiful for an IPS display. I originally was dead set to get something with an amoled, and while sitting next to my buddies s6 his color still 'pops' more but the brightness is almost identical and the color on this thing looks much more natural and realistic.

Recently with the delay on 5.0 for the US LTE variant, because of AT&T, I have lost my patience with them. I am looking for a way to rid myself of this BS while maintaining full stock software. I have heard that the variants of the tablet are actually not different, and the firmwares may work on either model. Has anyone tried this? I'm well aware the cell bands supported may change (but my carrier only requires one band, and the WW variant supports one of my carrier's bands). I would love to know if it works, and if I can dirty flash the package to keep my data, since the rom is basically identical.
I flashed OTA posted in general forum for LTE and using it in ATT. Unlocked bootloader, CWM, and root afterwards. I'm not quite sure what you're looking for?

Bricks.
No what i'm asking is if i could convert my device to the WW variant with a firmware flash, and thus avoid needing to manually flash OTA files becauze of delays. I know this isn't going to be the last update delayed on the US variant so i'm wondering if i can just switch the installed software from the US LTE version to the WW LTE version, without bricking.
Yeah.. I am thinking the same thing as well.
If it was possible without bricking the device, I would love to flash the "Rest of the World" firmware on the AT&T set too.

You're welcome to try it with the factory images. If it does brick, you can always restore through the same process. I plan on attempting it soon, but i am waiting on a microsd card.

Theoretically, the only thing that would be changed between builds is the GSM stack. However the OTA between the WW and the US version would not work by default. You'd need to go into the OTA zip and mess around with some of the build.prop info. Which then may cause MD5 mismatches when it is parsed, and would definitely affect subsequent OTA updates because of MD5 mismatches.
If there are Android 5.0 factory images available for the WW ROM you feel would be suitable for your geography, then this would be the safer way to proceed.
I remember when I owned a Samsung Galaxy S2, there was an XDA thread with flashable modems you could push to your device to get better reception in your area. Essentially the differences between the WW and US/CAN versions should only be the GSM stack, and perhaps some carrier-specific bundled app (like the AT&T app for example).
Just a quick update for those who are interested:
Well ... I just did it. Successfully flashed the RoW recovery image on the Shield Tablet LTE set which I purchased from US via Ebay. I'm still in the process of restoring but so far everything seems to be working fine.
Confirmed 2 things during the flashing of recovery image,
Quote:
1) Issues of Cellular/Sim Card on the US LTE set is almost certainly Lollipop firmware related. No problems on FW 4.4.2
2) Problem of Wi-Fi authentication error after sharing files via Super Beam ( Wi-Fi direct ) is also resolved after revert to 4.4.2
I think I will be sticking with 4.4.2 for now with the added bonus of file managers working on Kit Kat.

So i'm assuming from your post you got LTE working? Which country are you in? Where do you get the factory images from?

Actually, I don't have a 4G LTE micro sim card with me so I can't verify that at the moment. I am trying to test it out using my friend's sim card and will report back with the results. In my opinion, it's not a good idea to be trying my nano sim on this.
I'm from Singapore and the network I'm on supports LTE Band 3 & 7 and my AT&T Moto X which supports Band 7 works out of the box.
Got them from Nvidia developers website but you have to register for a free account first.

Yep I need LTE band 3 for my network which is not supported out of the box by my US LTE shield. If your network supports LTE Band 7 then your shield should also be able to access your LTE network as BOTH the US and RoW LTE shields support LTE Band 7.
So I don't think your experiment will help me. Is there any way finding out which LTE Bands your shield supports now that you have flashed the RoW recovery image?

Why not try flashing it and give it a go ? There's the bonus perk of removing the AT&T app from the device.

Hi, I am currently using US LTE NVIDIA Shield Tablet in Singapore as well. I have successfully flashed the RoW recovery image to my tablet (since I'm downgrading from Lollipop as well, so I thought I might as well try), but I noticed that there is no baseband file in the recovery image package. I proceeded to flash anyway.
One thing I noticed after flashing is that I still am not getting LTE (half of Singapore is band 3, and my home is under its coverage). So, it's pretty safe to say that the baseband is not affected by the factory image.
However, it might also be that the latest recovery image doesn't cover the baseband, and it might be included in the previous updates. So, I'm trying to download the previous recovery images and see whether there are baseband images are there.
EDIT: baseband image is not in there. The baseband version is definitely still for North America (e1729-nala.4.05_0.6.3 @786934, notice the 'na' part?).

Sorry I don't really understand ... the RoW software cover for both Band 3 and 7 since the UK edition supports these LTE bands as specified in Nvidia FAQ.
You should still be able to get Band 7 coverage which the NA edition supports as well, right ?
Am I missing something ?

Thank you. That is exactly the information I was looking for. Unfortunately there is no point flashing the RoW recovery image if you wish to change your baseband (and then use different LTE bands like I want to).
Is there anywhere I can download the RoW baseband images? I remember they were readily available for my nexus 4.

As I said, the image doesn't include the baseband image. So, no matter what you flash on the rom side, it won't matter.
Also, about band coverage in Singapore, it's not a full overlap. Some areas are band 3 (south and west), while some band 7 (North and East). I know this from an M1 engineer friend. So, yeah, no LTE band 3 in this factory image here.
But not all hope is lost. If one day Nvidia decides to update baseband, it will then definitely include the baseband in the OTA or factory image. So, possibility of switching is still there.
Was there a baseband update with the latest software update (2.0)?
The factory images for 2.0 have still not been released.
In another strange twist when i turned on my tablet this morning I was surprised to see my US shield had LTE here in Australia. Which means only one thing - Telstra are expanding their LTE spectrum in my area!

I downloaded the OTA manually and checked the content. It doesn't have any baseband update. Also, just to confirm again, I actually re-installed Lollipop. The baseband is still unchanged (only the suffix @ part changed, but I think it's just some marker).
I checked wikipedia, and it seems that Telstra has band 3 and 28. There's a good chance that they switched your area's band to 3, or they simply add band 7 (the latter is, of course, ideal).
I read that Nvidia is preparing an update to the existing Lollipop system. Hopefully they will include a baseband update, then we can probably make the jump to the RoW ROM. For now, I'm sticking with the US ROM first.

Okay ... I see that you are not able to get Band 3 coverage. But just to confirm, you are still able to get band 7 4G LTE coverage on the ROW Rom right ?
My phone 4G LTE is on Singtel, getting pretty good coverage island wide on Band 7. Unfortunately, it's a nano sim and I'm hesitant to test it on the tablet in case in gets jammed inside the slot.
So long everything works fine, I'm sticking with ROW Rom as it will probably not have none of the nonsense whereby it require AT&T approval before release.
Sorry to trouble you on another matter, I have reported this 2 issues to Nvidia customer support but just want to check if it's just my set or an common problem.
1) Cellular data connectivity will not return after enable aeroplane mode. SIM card is subsequently not detected.
2) After sharing files using Wi-Fi direct ( SuperBeam app ), Wi-Fi connection doesn't auto reconnect due to failed authentication. Require manual intervention.
What I can say is this 2 issues no longer occur once I downgraded the software from Android 5.0 back to Kit Kat 4.4.2

According to Nvidia faq, the North American version that works on AT&T, T-Mobile and Rogers on LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 7, and 17 and HSPA bands 1, 2, 4, 5.
I see that this article ( http://www.cnet.com/au/news/telstra-expands-its-4g-services-including-the-700mhz-band-trials/ ) states that Telstra is conducting trials for 700mhz (Band 17) in your area. Maybe this is why you have begun receiving 4G LTE reception in your area ?

I initially thought it may have been the planned 700mHz expansion by Telstra in my area HOWEVER Telstra's 700mHz expansion is actually Band 28 (not Band 17) and my US shield does not work on Band 28 out of the box. Although LTE Band 17 and 28 both use the 700mHz spectrum they both use different parts of that spectrum so are not compatible.
What I think has happened is there is some LTE Band 7 coverage in the middle of town here which is where I was when I got LTE coverage today. As I understand it Telstra has some limited LTE Band 7 coverage with most of the LTE network being Band 3........ so I'll still have to wait until I can flash a RoW baseband which will hopefully give me Band 3.....
Four things to note before proceeding...
1. This only works for users having vs985 model outside the US or not on verizon network.

So Hi guys i installed this rom and as usually i was not getting any 4G or lte network.
Then i go to my network provider's website to check on which Band or frequency 4g services are active. ( for this i just googled 'idea 4g band' and i am redirected to my network provider's website. Here 'idea' is the name of network provider.)
So i found that in my region 4g services are active on Band3
Different careers use different Bands to provide 4g services such as band40 , band17 etc
Then i go to phone's hidden menu by the Advanced Menu of Fulmics Tweaks.
In hidden menu i select Modem Protocol > LTE Band Selection
There i select Band3 but i got "Fail' message on screen , however when i select band4 it gave me a 'success' message.
It means on my phone band4 is active but not band3.
All this information of Bands are stored in Modem or Bootstack section of our phone.
May be fulmics rom is having a band concerned with international rom So now i need a modem on which Band3 can be activated by going to hidden menu.
So i just flashed 35b Bootstack compiled by @xdabbeb.
Which can be found in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/development/xdabbeb-s-vs980-2-0-0-t3231279
After flashing when i tried to select band3 in hidden menu it gave a 'success' message . It means Band3 is activated on my phone. And now when i searched for all networks in Networks Menu of Phone Setting. I got my network listed and i successfully registered on it. And got 4G NETWORK.
So first of all you should know on which band your network is working and then try flashing different bootstacks on which your 4g Band can be activated.
Flashing wrong Bootstack can brick your phone
""Do not flash any bootstack above 35b. Custom roms are still not compatible with bootstacks above 35b""
You can try 24b , 12b. (But im sure only about 35b as i tried only this)
Again I'm not responsible for any harm to your phone. Use your mind and search thoroughly before taking any step.

Hi there, thanks for the info. What area are you in and where did you find what band you needed? I have tried numerous times with all the bootstacks and never had consistent 4G.
@mopartonyg
I'm in India and i just checked my career's website to know which band they are using. However in USA Verizon wireless uses Band12 as Primary Band and Band2 , Band4 as Secondary band to strengthen the signal in densely populated urban area. So if you are verizon user in USA band 12,4,2 must be activated. I can't say anything about consistency as it varies from place to place.
Actually Verizon uses band 13 for it's primary along with bands 4 and 2. Not having any luck getting data to work on Fulmics with this method. I select band 13 and band 4 (as band 2 is not in my area) yet even with that I still can't get data at all on Verizon with Fulmics.
same boat here... actually the only band I can get working is 4. I have to assume the design of the international rom with the band they are designed around, just don't play nice with our CDMA harware/modem partition. I would suspect that the international roms would require some engineering for them to really work properly. not sure if just porting them over and chaning settings is going to get the job done. perhaps someone more intelligent than I could share some light, but there certainly is a conflict with how these roms communicates across the CDMA bands in the US

One thing i noticed here... that only Verizon sim users are facing problem regarding 4G whereas other international users like me ( and some of my friends in China are free to select any network ). So may be verizon is creating restrictions as when i was on Stock vs985 verizon Rom ( unrooted) , i was not getting any official ota updates. It always says your software is up to date. But then i found a statement in Verizon's website that you will not get any official updates if you are not having verizon sim.
So verizon knows what Rom and what sim we are using.

A couple of good approaches to the issue. Although it needs to be noted 4G is directly related to the band on each carrier (VZW, TMO, etc) See Below
Carrier 4G LTE Bands Frequencies
Verizon Wireless 2, 4, 13 1900, 1700 f, 700 c
T-Mobile 2, 4, 12 1900, 1700 def, 700 a
Sprint 25, 26, 41 1900 g, 850, 2500
Europe 3, 7, 20 1800, 2600, 800
If a specific ROM cannot be set to the correct bands above, it would make sense to me that Verizon wouldn't work in Europe on a stock VZW ROM. It would not be able to use the channels in Europe.
And vice versa, that Verizon wouldn't work in the states on an international ROM in the US. Whether the Verizon SIM is blocking that band, or the design of the ROM, would be a better question for the developers.

Warid's approved devices will definitely work with Warid's LTE network. For our "Warid LTE Approved' devices please visit the "Warid's LTE devices" section. You can also purchase LTE devices that support 1800 MHz (FDD-LTE Bands 3) from other sources. However, Warid doesn't take responsibility for these devices if they do not work on Warid's LTE network http://www.waridtel.com/lte/faqs
So it makes sense that if BAND 3 works international (see above) that you get 4G
The one thing I noticed after activating bands 13 and 4 (with the proper VS985 35B bootstack) in the hidden settings is when I searched for my network under network settings it does bring up Verizon but it fails authentication. So it's like there is something missing in Fulmics ROM itself that would get it to where the ROM will work with Verizon's network. So is it a matter of lifting whatever files from say 47A/47B into Fulmics that have the Verizon VS985 specific info to get it to work perhaps?

I think now its not a matter of bootstack. Because even when Required Band is activated we can't register to the Verizon. Xpirt mentioned in a post that he is working to resolve network issues in Verizon models. We can hope that this problem will be solved in next version However xdabbeb shared that the 47A modem won't work without the corresponding 47A secondary bootloader (sbl1). Unfortunately, the 47A sbl1 doesn't play nice with the last bump-exploitable Android bootloader (aboot) we have from 12b. If you use that pairing, you'll put your device into 9008 bulk mode(Hard brick).

Great discussion towards the development of the International ROM's for our VS985. I was able to get 4G with Andy's 30A ported ROM...although the signal bars never came up on my phone, I was able to get the 4G speeds. I noticed that the APN XML was filled with Chinese... So for whatever reason and way, my phone was able to grab "somebody's" 4G tower. I'm hoping the RIL (Radio Interface Layer) and libraries were pulled over and perhaps this could provide some more insight to @Xspirit

I am on BlackSoulxxx latest LG G3 Tekcafe v5.3 D85530A-Full G5 ROM. Here's what I did to get the bars with 4g data. I tested it out in areas where there is no cell service and in areas where there is 1x or 3g and the 4g came back. I even made a backup of the ROM wiped and installed another marshmallow aosp rom and others. I then went to restore BlackSoulxxx ROM and 4g signal still came back.
Steps I did.
1. Tot'd back to stock 10b and rooted and installed twrp.
2. Flashed LG_G3_Flash2BackupEFS.zip of the 10b rom.
3. Wiped stock 10b and flashed the 10b G3_EFS_Flashable_Restore.zip that was created from the the LG_G3_Flash2BackupEFS.zip.
4. Flashed BlackSoulxxx rom and after it booted up I had signals but not data until I entered the Verizon APN manually see picture of what to enter. If mobile network is greyed out flash 35b bootstack.
5. I entered the verizon APN and selected CDMA then global I got the 4g icon with signal bars I changed the icon with a buildprop edit.
I just don't get signals while in 1x or 3g but data does work still and it will get 4g again if your in a 4g area. The phone does say T-CDMA 64. Here's a https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-EyVOQK1xDAa0VmbERXcUlrV1U/view?usp=sharing to change it to Verizon Wireless courtesy of @xpirt.

Great job posting your step by step instructions. I've been able to achieve all of the same on a host of international ROMS however with a couple of caveots. I can either have SMS/MMS working properly, or break SMS/MMS and have internet with signal bars. Question about the file above. This will just modify the header, or will it specifically put you on the Verizon network?

So when you go into the About Phone>Network, does it say Verizon Wireless for the network?
Hello everyone! I recently got a second-hand verizon G2 VS980. I live in India (location is relevant in my case because of this being a US only model). I had ROOT pre-installed and it stays even after factory reset. This indicates that it is NOT stock.
This phone has legit hardware, as in it has all VS980 components. I have checked it. BUT IT HAS THE IMEI OF A D800. Does this mean that i also have the bands of D800 enabled?
Now what i want to do is,
Above all i want this phone rooted and flashed to the latest and most stable ROM atm.
Second, i would like to use 4G LTE on it, here in India. I know that VS980 supports only band 4 and 13. I NEED band 3,5,40. I have trawled the internet for this specific info but to no avail. Does the VS980 has the hardware it takes to use other 4G bands? Or is it manufactured only with band 4 and 13 in mind? The only pieces of little info i came upon was this
jacob019 said:
After spending a few days hacking around with the VS980 (LG G2 Verizon Model) I wish to share some findings.
1. NV edits to the bands will only work with baseband 11A or earlier. All later radios have the NV values hardcoded into the baseband and any changes will be reverted. You can successfully edit the NV values, and they will survive reboot on baseband 11A, but as soon as you install a later baseband they will revert to stock. CM11 works well with 11A. Perhaps binary modification to later basebands would be possible.
2. LTE Band 17 does not appear to be supported by the hardware. I copied all the values from a D801. Android now reports my phone as a GSM model instead of CDMA which is nice, but it just won't connect to LTE Band 17. If I delete band 4, I can't get LTE at all, so I know the settings are having an effect.

and this. So i am confused where to start, i currently have a 26A baseband. Is it possible to enable band 3,5 and 40 on VS980?
I found the guides much confusing and complex relative to other devices i had. I am confused what to do first.
Should i flash TWRP first? or
Should i flash stock firmware?
I see that bands can be edited only on baseband 11A or earlier, so should i downgrade to that etc.
I have the phantom touches, and i read that they were gone after a specific update, so can i still get/flash that update with
a 11A baseband?
I do not understand this baseband, bootloader, exploits, and ROM compatiblity things.
I am willing to try even low level edits if someone is able to help and guide me.
Lastly, i just want my VS980 to run a good stable ROM with (if possible) 4G LTE on band 3,5 and/or 20 (India) and NO phantom touches update.
Specs: attached
Bump. Noone?
Can't anyone tell me that does the verizon model even includes hardware capability for 4G band 3,5 and 20? If this gets cleared, more than HALF of my problems will be gone.

I have an x720 and have been reading on how to unlock band 17 and 12 for at&t and t-mobile LTE service. As of right now I have some limited LTE service on band 2 and 4 (at&T) but it leaves much to be desired.
I see everyone here flashing the x720 firmware to get their x727 bootloader unlocked and then flashing back to the USA Firmware to get their LTE bands back. Is the reverse possible for the x720? Can I flash the USA firmware to get the LTE bands? Will this re-lock my bootloader?
I tried flashing the modem fix from https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/how-to/flashing-guide-roundup-leeco-le-pro-3-t3511901 on my x720 and now my sim card is being detected even after a wipe and reflashing my rom. So I'm assuming i'm gonna have to go back to stock firmware anyway. I've been a long time flashoholic and modder and I'm dedicated to getting this to work for us x720 people in the US.
What about this guide for the le max 2? I've heard all qualcomm devices can benefit from this procedure:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/how-to/guide-unlock-bands-leeco-le-max-2-fix-t3439154
UPDATE: Fixed no sim error after flashing x727 modem.
Downloaded a stock version of the Chinese Firmware and extracted the zip, then booted into fastboot and flashed the modem. You need the NON-HLOS.bin file. Then run "fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin" and reboot! Voila. But still no band 17
I think unlocking the bands is not as easy as just flashing a ROM. When I was investigating OnePlus 3T, there is a long thread about it and basically band unlocking requires a lot of tools, some from Qualcomm and not easy to get, and a process that is not for noobs, not even for "professional TWRP flashers" but hardware-engineering-mode noobs anyway.
You can have a look here on how complicated it is (OP3T forum):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/guide-unlock-additional-lte-bands-t3519563
Initially I liked OnePlus3T more because of optical stabilizer in camera, but lack of bands (or better to say, their separation into North American and European version) was a no-go for me. I need bands 2, 3, 4 & 20 and there is not a from-factory OP3T with those 4 bands in one device. Band unlocking might be possible but I would not risk messing with a $450 hone to get bands 3 & 20 unlocked on NA version. So I went with Le Pro 3 X720 and I am a happy camper.
So unless you know what you are doing, or are an adrenaline junkie, I would not mess with band unlocking.
I would absolutely LOVE to see an answer and/or progress on this EXACT scenario being made. Both myself and my wife have Le Pro 3's because of the universal network band support and INSANE performance of this phone (I've literally never seen such a performer with such large battery AND ridiculous band support at such a cost effective price) ((I bought both for $249 each).
I would LOVE to be able to buy the Chinese version with the 6G of ram, and then unlock the NA bands, specifically and especially bands 2,4,12,17,and 20 would be needed for our phones. So I'm super interested in this. You want to do exactly what I'd like to do, although you have the Chinese phone in your hand and I don't.
Both of our phones (x727) are bootloader unlocked, rooted, and TWRP recovery installed on stock .21S done by myself. So if there's anything I can help with, let me know.

Yeah I've read through that process before I posted. I don't know if I'd call that "hardware-engineering" just because it puts a device into serial mode and communicates with NV memory.... I used qualcomm's boarddiag tool to unbrick a nexus 5 with the serial connection... doesn't seem any different at all actually :fingers-crossed:
I'm not ruling that out as a method, however I think we may have hope to do it easier. The x727 has been many times on this forum successfully flashed to x720 firmware. Everyone who did this reports the loss of usa bands though i have not seen confirmation that they GAIN additional chinese bands. That indicated to me that the baseband/modem is the only difference between the x727 having band 12 and the x720 not having it. We just need to tweak the x720 modem with the bits from the x727 modem.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/how-to/flashing-guide-roundup-leeco-le-pro-3-t3511901 In this thread there are several users that say they successfully flashed their x720 with x727 firmware and had full LTE, however there are also users reporting flashing the x727 firmware gives them a "no sim card detected". The latter was my experience. I believe this has to do with the switch from dual sim cards to single sim cards, i tried several build.prop tweaks to try and resolve with no luck.

Can you get me a dump of the baseband? I'd like to start digging into it and compare the x720 and x727.
I may try the qualcomm tools if I get the chance this weekend. If I have success and don't brick my phone I'll do a write up specifically for the LP3...

Sure man, I'm totally down to help however I can. I've never dumped a baseband before (never had the need) so the process eludes me, but I'm more than happy to perform whatever steps needed to do so.
Just give me a detailed rundown on how to do it or what tools/commands to run and I'll have it done for you ASAP. You can privately message me if you'd like, makes no difference to me. Give me the knowledge and I'll give you the love.

I'll shoot you a PM in a bit.
As far as progress on this goes, I'm trying to enable them via the DFS guide that was copied over here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/help/unlocking-bands-t3565979
I'm going to see how complicated it is and if that negates the time we are spending here first.
I am having the exact same issue as the OP. Any movement on a solution. I am willing to help/test. Not a noon but far from an engineer.
Question, how do I unlock the bootloader now? With the us servers down I can't get twrp files. Also, I can't unlock the bootloader with adb. I'm trying to flash Lineage OS onto my x727. All help is appreciated, thanks.

I've been looking for a good, inexpensive phone my partner can use on AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon and I was able to snatch an unlocked VS995 in excellent condition for $70--it just needs the battery replaced soon which I also ordered. The main downside to this model if you're using it on AT&T and T-Mobile is that it doesn't support Band 12 and 17, but I know the US Unlocked variant does. I just received the phone today. I've been searching on the forum for an answer into if this is possible with the VS995 variant and I've seen people say it is using an LG V20 version of LGUP, but haven't found anyone that's confirmed they've been able to do it on the Verizon and not the AT&T variant and the steps they took to do so.
I want to stay on the stock ROM so I'm not looking to root and install a custom one. Is it possible to convert from the VS995 firmware to US996 so I can gain band 12 and 17 while removing the Verizon bloatware and staying on the stock ROM/OS? If so, would anyone one of y'all be kind enough to post the link to a guide or article that details how to do so? I reset the phone to factory settings so thankfully don't have to do a backup. After doing this, is it still possible to receive OTA updates and, if so, are they gonna mess anything up like reverting the phone to stock firmware or the phone's unlocked status?
Thank y'all so much in advance.
I have a vs995 and I flashed it with US996_usa and working great. You need to download the us996 usa version (2.3GB KDZ) at lg-firmwares dot com and flash it with LGUP PATCHED. There is video on Youtube giving detailed instructions. You will be able to find all these easily via google. I don't know how any of this works with the various US carriers or bands as I'm in europe.

As far as I'm aware, cross-flashing firmware on the V20 won't give you any additional frequency bands unlike some other phones, so you're still limited to what the VS995 has from the beginning. From what I've read, US996 firmware works fine on Verizon except for a few features such as WiFi calling and video calling.
As for AT&T and T-Mobile, you won't get VoLTE or WiFi calling along with the missing LTE bands, so, depending on where you live, overall coverage could be significantly worse than having the H910 (AT&T) and H918 (T-Mobile) models, respectively. Not having VoLTE would be a problem if you were in an LTE-only area without roaming because then you'd have no way to make or receive phone calls.

Thank you for the info. Are you referring to this video? I'd watched it before but it's for flashing the stock ROM on a US996 variant and the links in the description don't work.

Hmm, where did you read that? From what I've read the hardware/modem in the VS995 and US996 version is the same and therefore the difference only comes down to the carrier firmware artificially disabling bands the device supports just like it is on many other smartphones. I could be wrong, but one way to find out would be to do it myself and then try to connect to a Band 12 or 17 tower.
WiFi calling and video calling I'm totally fine with not having. Never used or needed them. With AT&T and Cricket I've never not had service and with Metro the couple times I haven't had T-Mobile service roaming has kicked in and saved the day. Thank you for the info.

Here's some frequency band info for both the VS995 and US996:
VS995
US996
I'm pretty sure this is a hardware difference, and no firmware change will be able to add more band support unlike some other phones you may have heard about (such as recent U.S. models of Samsung phones). Otherwise, there would have been plenty of discussions and guides around here regarding this (and FWIW, I happen to own a US996, LS997, and H918).
As for LTE Band 12 on the T-Mobile network, only phones that are certified by T-Mobile will be able to access it (more info on compatible phones here). So even though a US996 has the hardware for connecting to Band 12, you wouldn't be able to use it since T-Mobile has blocked access to it and only allows it for the H918 model.
Based on all this, I would expect a VS995 to get LTE Bands 2, 4, and 5 on AT&T and T-Mobile. Of course, since you already have the phone, there's only one way to find out. Just make sure you carefully read the guides/procedures about using LGUP for cross-flashing, and absolutely stay away from any H918 firmware (it will instantly kill any V20 that is not an actual H918). Not sure if there even is a separate guide around here as it is usually mentioned in the initial steps of different rooting guides for each V20 model, but you can find the patched LGUP that ezzony mentioned in this thread (you may have to move the DLL file to a specific folder location for it to work properly).

Yes, but the Frequency Check website only looks at firmware differences, not the internal hardware. I decided to do some further digging and went to the source that tests these (the FCC) and found that the VS995 and US996 have the same ZNFVS995 FCC ID meaning they share the same internal hardware. Verizon just decided they wanted to be arseholes and cripple the phone's band support in their firmware so it wouldn't work to the best of its abilities on T-Mobile's and AT&T's network. Similarly, T-Mobile decided to also be arseholes by artificially limiting Band 12/VoLTE support to their own H918 model only. I hate that carriers are able to get away with this BS. It is incredibly anti-consumer and infuriating. If the hardware supports XYZ then it should be enabled and capable of taking advantage of it. The FCC tested Band 12/17 to work properly on these and says regarding the device's capabilities:
This device contains the following capabilities: 850/1900 CDMA (BC0, BC1), 850/1900 GSM/GPRS/EDGE, 850/1700/1900 WCDMA/HSPA, Multi-band LTE, 802.11b/g/n/ac WLAN, 802.11a/n/ac UNII, Bluetooth (1x, EDR, LE), NFC LTE Band 12 (698 - 716 MHz) overlaps the entire frequency range of LTE Band 17 (704 - 716 MHz). Therefore, test data provided in this report covers Band 17 as well as Band 12. LTE Band 25 (1850 - 1915 MHz) overlaps the entire frequency range of LTE Band 2 (1850 - 1910 MHz). Therefore, test data provided in this report covers Band 2 as well as Band 25. LTE Band 66 (1710 - 1780 MHz) overlaps the entire frequency range of LTE Band 4 (1710 - 1755 MHz). Therefore, test data provided in this report covers Band 4 as well as Band 66.

Seriously, f*ck both Verizon and T-Mobile. Thankfully I'm starting my Cricket/AT&T service in a week so I'll be able to test if it can pick up and use Band 12/17. You happen to know of any app or way to force/limit the device to only using one specific LTE band? Thank you so much for linking to that thread for flashing these using LGUP. I'll make sure to follow it and to download the US996 (US Unlocked, not US Cellular) firmware and post a small update on my findings. Thank you so much for all the info. Really appreciate it.

While I've never tried this, have a look at this old thread on LTE band selection from a hidden menu. The dialer code differs by model, so for a VS995 it would be *#546368#*995# and for a US996 *#546368#*996#. The code works for my US996 and H918 on Oreo but not for my LS997 on Nougat (for which there is a separate APK file to access the hidden menu). There are lots of submenus and items in there, so be sure not to accidentally change settings that you're not supposed to.

Android 8.
I know Android 9 does not have FM radio because Android 9 is only available for the Korean variant (F800) and it never had FM in the first place.

Will this work in terms of flashing us unlocked firmware or my Verizon LG v20 (vs995) I rooted it successfully, but when I flash these firmware files, the phone is in a bootloop. US996 twrpable zips
