Media server battery drain issues - Zuk Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone always had media server hogging 30 to 40 percent of the battery and drains within few hours. Media server killer app had solved this issue but the problem has returned after the latest update pushed to Indian phones. Anyone found a permanent solution to this issue?

Possible bug on Atrix 4G

Hello guys
I have no idea if this is GingerBlur related (I'm pretty sure it isn't) but after listening to music on any player (Stock, Winamp, Player Pro), the media server process seems to continue working in the background and decreases battery level as hell. I noticed that these days. After exiting the player, the media server process kept consuming battery as indicated on the battery status. Don't know if it's kernel related but I have to reboot in order to stop the process from consuming more battery. After reboot, battery consumption came back to normal.
Have you experienced the same issue? I read a thread about someone losing his charge in just a few hours because of the same process.
I think this is Froyo bug. Other than that, my Atrix rocks and battery lasts like no other phone I've had.

The process always runs in the background regardless of you having used the program or not. My guess is that the program is holding the song on pause and not actually shutting down properly.
Instead of rebooting, you can always force stop the program in Applications. This should result in the same as a reboot.
I can not say if it is a gingerblur issue or a stock issue as I stream all my music through audiogalaxy (you simply can not fit 130 gigs of MP3s on the atrix).
It seems to happen randomly. I close the application but the media server thing keeps consuming battery. If I try to FC the service, it reopens by itself.
I'm going to try to figure out how it can actually close properly

media server

after fully charging my nexus 7 for the night i went to sleep, when i woke up in the morning the battery was down to 49%, wondering why the battery was going down so quickly, i moved to battery usage and guess BAM Media server top of the list with a whopping 46%. Wonder what caused this i searched around a google and concluded it is related to music, videos, pictures etc. However, since i recently bought the tablet i haven't gotten the chance to input any music vids or pics into. The next logical culprit for the high % is the apps, but since i downloaded a bunch of apps before hand i just opted for factory reset. now here comes the problem, even with Currents, googlenow disabled and no apps downloaded, media server is still at 35%! Does any1 know of any other things that might be causing such a high media server battery usage? Thank You very much.

For me its not more than 10% always, & as per my knowledge mediaserver is all about CPU & keep awake , so maybe some crappy apps causing the issues, so try to test by unistalling them, For me "screen " is always drains almost more than 60% , Got lucky to prove Asus that its battery fault so getting replacement of battery .
I have seen posts that point to the cause being a corrupt media file. Some have mentioned fixing by deleting corrupt video files and my wife had a bad music file that was causing all kinds of problems until I found and deleted it. Also, you can copy a 0-byte '.nomedia' file into any folder you don't want indexed by media server.

Media Server drains battery

Hi guys
I recently noticed my Nexus discharging over 50% of its battery over night while in standby. Looking it up in the settings turned out that the process called Media Server is the cause with nearly 50% of the power being drained by it.
Can someone help me out with this issue - what can I do to resolve it?
I'm running stock 4.3, rooted.
Many thanks in advance!
try this:
go in settings>Apps>media server>clear cache and data
this will let it rebuild the database
Reboot after you unplug charger. Every time.
Sent from my cellular telephone
My wife's phone had a corrupt video file (just a few bytes and a funny name) and once I deleted it, the media server drain disappeared.

[Q] GCM_LIB holding constant wakelock causing bad battery drain

I have a weird battery drain problem...(Bell I337M, latest firmware)
I realized mid-morning that I was dropping battery a LOT faster than I normally do. I don't use my phone much at work so after the course of a work day I'm usually left with around 85% battery remaining. Today, however, my battery dropped all the way down to just over 40%.
I checked the battery stats and saw that Android System was the next highest source of battery usage - with a "stay awake" time of over 12 hours so far. I installed BetterBatteryStats and it points to an Android System process called GCM_LIB holding the wakelock 100% of the time. My phone has not once dropped into deep sleep.
I think this may be the Google Cloud Messaging service, so I tried investigating every avenue I could. I've rebooted three times. I've removed every single account on my phone. I've stopped every push or polling application. GCM_LIB continues to hold the wakelock.
Any ideas? I really don't want to have to wipe the phone if I don't have to, I have everything configured just the way I want it to be.

I had the android system drain when I used google edition roms but I fixed it by adding a few build.prop entries to make the phone sleep better. I didn't have this issue with stock touchwiz roms tho

Hi, some of our users said this.
As you can see from this screen: https://plus.google.com/communities/112636044705492129107 they have the same problem of you.
Have you found a solution?
GCM LIB is deprecated as per the GCM website, it has been superseded by GCM Server and GCM Client. Please use the GoogleCloudMessaging API instead of the GCM client helper library. The GCM server helper library is still valid.
There are a number of open bugs against GCM_LIB, including this one and I doubt they will be addressed.

Sudden and extreme battery drain

Hey all.
It's the second time my battery has been drained from 50%+ to 0 in about 12min . It happens when I stream music over google play app and Bluetooth. Something I have been doing plenty times over and over again. I'm on NBD91K Build . Rooted. Anyone else?
My gf reports that her N6p, NBD90X (at&t), has died on numerous accounts in the past month where she would have 25-40% remaining battery life and then went to 0. Battery usage graph would show the severe and sudden drop in percentage. Haven't found a real solution at this time.
Yes, I noticed similar issue couple of days back with play music when connected to car Bluetooth. I played music for around ten minutes and saw that play music had taken 12℅ of battery.
I am on 7.1.1 DP2
