Touchscreen dead, but need to copy data to another LG G2 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I dropped my LG G2 D802, the screen went black but it still works, and I bought another. I'd like to copy the data exactly with all setting from the old phone to the new one. ADB won't connect, so I guess usb debugging is off. I can't get On Screen Phone to work, so that's not enabled. I can't enable anything because the screen doesn't work. I tried just clicking things, but couldn't enable what I needed to. Is there anything I can do besides copy the internal storage?

u can replace old motherboard to new phone.
if display is black that means its the fault of dock port flex cable.
i was facing same issue on my lg g2 d800 i replaced flex cable and its working fine.

a month earlier my phone screen went black, i can only see the backlight lit. I replaced my LCD and its working fine now. I doubt flex cable has to do anything with the screen going black ? I might be wrong

Two separate questions :
1. Do you have a custom recovery installed? If yes, abd may be pre-enabled when booted into recovery(depending on the recovery used).
2. Is your Phone detected by the LG PC suite? If yes, you can use the "QMove" feature to transfer your data. If you are on Lollipop, this feature doesn't work very well due to security permissions

@shaolefen
If you got stock Android try to use OSP to copy everything over

The screen actually works. I can click on the screen and hear that it's clicking on something. I just can't see what I'm clicking so I can't enable
@wulsic
Is there any tutorial on how to use that? This is the first I've heard of it.

Sorry for the late reaction, but try this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycjGnaK0EB8
you could still try to blindly enable USB debugging just by watching some videos onyoutube to see the settings app, and just scroll down and those steps.

Can you use this without "authorization" from the phone? I have the same problem but the phone won't pass from the pin/puk screen and you cannot type the code.

Do you also own another g2? If so then you or perhaps if you have a friend could switch the motherboards out so you could enter your passcode and transfer the data to your pc. If you don't have a second g2, or a pc then you could try and this is probably the simplest method. Use an otg and connect a mouse to your g2 and you should be able to control it again. About the pin/puk code. If you can't get acces to your sim, then just eject the sim card and use the mouse to unlock your phone etc. I hope this will help you with your issue.

Touch input broken- alternative input methods?

I was given two Nexus 4 units with fractured glass to tinker with- I'd like to use them to just run a data processing app as a lower powered server. The problem is that the touch input appears to be completely dead on one unit, and only 30% of the screen responds to touch on the other!
I can't even get past the welcome screen, which is problematic. Can someone help me come up with a way to get an alternative input? I just want to get in far enough to install the app and run it, I'm thinking either via remote desktop or keyboard/mouse via OTG cable.
Both units have stock roms, which means USB debugging is off and apparently OTG support doesn't exist either. I'm feeling like I hit a brick wall here. Is there anything I can do, or are these units useless? Can a custom rom with OTG support be installed perhaps through recovery? Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful, thanks!
Try the phone which works 30% screen by rotating in 90 degrees or 180 degree and then try to select the menu options. If it works then you can try for something.

Problem is that the homescreen doesn't rotate. I needed to click "next" in the bottom right corner to advance past the welcome screen, and I couldn't!
But I was able to pull down the top bar and get into settings from there, and turn on USB debugging. Once I did that, I downloaded and ran a remote control app that I could sideload with ADB and set up what I wanted to run there. So at least I got ONE working. But the other one which has no touch input working at all, I'm just hitting a brick wall with that one.
Is there no way to install a custom rom with a non-functional screen?
Similar problem
Hi Dishe, did you find any solution to this problem. I'm in a similar situation but worse since my phone was encrypted and some points does not work on screen. If you've find any alternative please let me know.

Can you format the partitions through TWRP and upload the new ROM?
Or try the following:
fastboot format userdata
Thanks for your concern. Meanwhile, I've installed the stock rom via fastboot cli and phone works now. I've lost all my data and touch panel is nonresponsive on the right side of the screen but at least I can make calls now.
Anyway I need to replace either screen or the phone itself.

Replacing the screen may be unprofitable. It is better to buy BT mouse and use the N4 for special tasks. Anyway, you yourself decide.

Black screen and no functionality but want to pull data

Hi i dropped my phone and the screen is black. I know it still works because the fingerprint still vibrates and the pc still recognizes it via charging method. I have some important photos that i didn't have backed up and now wish to recover. Can somebody show me steps to get into mass storage ?

Not that I know of. You might want to try Huawei's computer program HiSuite and see if it can connect to your phone without you changing any options on your dead phone screen.

In general, you can. You'd need to have ADB enabled though. You'd use the ADB pull command.
If anything, are you on stock with stock display size? Do you have apps that keep a persistent notification?
If not, I'd say you could try this;
Basically get someone to match your setup. They'd install any apps that you use which use persistent notifications to exactly match your setup. If none, have them take a picture (with an actual camera or another phone) of their 6P with the notification shade pulled down while plugged into a computer. Then another picture after they click "Charging Only" to switch it to MTP. If you can unlock the phone with the fingerprint scanner, and start up top to pull down your shade, you should be able to follow visual queues to enable MTP instead of charge only mode. Then you could at least navigate the folders on the phone and drag and drop your pictures to PC.
Edit: Assuming your screen still responds to touch, but is just black. Didn't see it specified. It's worth a shot.

God you people....if you have TWRP installed as recovery.....do this until it works right...timing is everything...hold the power button down(I know you won't know if/when it powers off) and hold down the volume up and power button when you think it powers up....volume up and power enters recovery directly, not bootloader....then you can connect to computer and transfer as twrp has adb enabled by default

No need to be so condescending. Especially since you offered OP a useless tip.
Why? As stated in their 1st post, their fingerprint scanner unlocks the phone. You can't have a fingerprint set without a pin, password or pattern. Since TWRP does not support fingerprint unlock, they would have to manually input their password for TWRP to access their data and have it show on a PC. As mentioned by OP above, the touch screen is non responsive. Meaning they cannot input their credentials to decrypt.
Edit: Just to confirm, I went to recovery and tried myself. Folders will not show up in file explorer on PC until TWRP is unlocked. ADB devices does show device ID as in recovery, but issuing ADB pull commands does not work. I pulled several folders and all I got was empty folders with no files. If they're encrypted (they said stock, so I'm just going to go ahead and assume they are encrypted) with password/pin/pattern (which we've already established is the case) this will not work.
@OP, I'm not sure of a way you'd be able to get into your pictures at present. Maybe someone with more technical knowledge could chime in, but as far as I can see you need to replace your screen. Either send it in to a repair shop, or DIY.
Here's a link for a new 6P screen (this is just the first link I found). Shop around yourself, see if you can find better prices & also be wary of reviews:
https://www.fixez.com/store/more-brands/huawei/huawei-google-nexus-6p

so i have used a usb-c hub with an hdmi port and usb port - then hook up phone to a monitor (not computer) and i had a pattern lock - it was really annoying as i had to guess where the dots were as the monitor doesnt show you where the dots are - but i used my mouse to unlock it - if you have a number lock it is easier to unlock - as you just makesure numlock is on then type in your passcode - once there you should be able to navigate round your phone using a mouse - turn on debugging and make sure you have the usb connection set to MTP (media transfer protocol) instead of charge only - id also take off all locking mechanisms to make it easier for yourself - then plug it in your pc and transfer all files across

Yotaphone 2 - Broken LCD screen - Can't pass Setup Wizard and use phone...

Hi,
I broke my LCD display a couple of months ago still, I managed to use the phone with the epaper display and eventually reinstall it without clearly writing down the exact procedure (with Lolipop)
Today, as my Marshmallow update freezed, I had to wipe all, thinking well I could easily find the steps to start the phone again.
The only problem remains that Setup Wizard wants us to use the LCD display, and I can't.
The last time I managed to use screen mirroring on Windows, with androidscreencast-0_3_1.jnlp, which is dicontinued.
To that extend, I allowed USB debugging (three lines to add) on system/build.prop and default.prop and copied a file from my computer (adbkeys.pub) to a certain folder in the device, to allow my PC to operate on the cellphone
But that last step doesn't work anymore.
I can see a dialog briefly popping up on the yotaphone, prompting me to allow the computer for debugging, but I can't click.
Droid Explorer tells me that this yotaphone is not allowed in $Vendor (or so on, I can't remember well).
So I managed to authorize the screen mirroring before, to start the phone, but I can't right now, although I found a new app, androidscreencast-0.0.10s-executable.jar.
I would have to copy adbkeys.pub to data/misc/adb/adb_keys, but as of today, that directory doesn't exist.
Can somebody please help me with that?
Thanks,

Thank you for answering. And what do it do to plug a mouse?
I've made it : the phone starts again.
If anyone is interested, I'll tell the trick for a broken front screen like mine.
Now I'm looking forward to make an image backup of it as it is very fresh if it can save me or others !
And I need advices for that?
Hi!!!
I have the sale problem
How did you bypass the wizzard???
hi. how do you bypass setup wizard? i had mine reset due to stuck. before im using only back screen. please help!
My front screen also stopped working all of a sudden without me doing anything. I was able to use the eInk so I did a factory reset. Now however I'm stuck since I can't boot the phone without a working front screen. I was wondering if a software issue stops the front screen from working and if there is a way to check/fix it.

Is bootloader unlocked or locked and TWRP installed ?
The only way i know is somehove turn USB mode from 'Charge only' to 'file transfer'
I don't know if Google app / assistant / "ok google" can change it ?
Other way is your luck, if Touch is working, you can ask someone with same device to see where notification and other menu appeare, and go tap and see your luck.. (or ask someone here on xda to provide usefull screenshots of menu.)

I did not change any settings in mobile, so bootloader is locked.. and TWRP is not installed..
I have disabled the USB debugging few days before my phone got broken (Unfortunate).
Touch is not working because of Display IC short.
Is there a way to enable USB debugging using Clockworkmod recovery or some other procedure to enable MTP file transfer.
Any suggestion to do it using OTG Mouse/Keyboard?

Then there's no way, sadly, but without touch you can't navigate to mtp as mentioned before and you also can't turn on own debugging. But unlocking bootloader wipes your phone, so this isn't a good idea

As strongst said there is no safe way..
You can ask service center guys if they can change particular circuit/ic and make it work or not... If they say to change motherboard, then refuse to change, otherwise you will lost everything..
As you said to do with mouse/keyboard,
You need same device with same configuration, so you can measure exact distance of mouse to do necessary settings, but it will be completely blind, you will be not sure what you are clicking at.. same with keyboard...
(Also thing to note, if you have screen lock, first difficulty is to unlock it.)
TEST YOUR LUCK...
After it, there is no other way..

How to recover data after display stopped working?

Hehy there,
unfortunately the screen on my mi9t stopped displaying. Really weird. While I was using it, the screen started flashing, just to turn black and never wake up again. No fall or water involved. The phone still seems to work fine, and even touch seems to work, but no display.
I opened up the phone to see if the connector got loose, but everything is well in place.
Now my problem ist, that I can not access the phone anymore. All my files and things are still on there but unreachable.
Here are the facts:
- no display
- bootloader is locked
- usb debugging is enabled, but my pc is not authorized
- I can blindly get into fastboot and to the lockscreen
- I am not able to blindly unlock the device
Easiest option would obvoulsy be to exchange the display, but unfortunately I can not get on here (South Africa) and shipping would take a month.
My favourite aproach so far was to mirror the screen via Vizor, but unfortunately it needs to install the according app on the device, which it can not while the device is locked.
Does someone here know how to recover the data?
Thanks
and a happy new year to everyone!

Mirror screen to pc with vyzor. You have usb debugging turned on, so it's worth a try.
If touch doesn't work, use usb otg adapter to plug keyboard or mouse

Thank your for the idea! Unfortunately it does not work in the unrooted phone. I suspect that's only because I can't the adb connection to my pv authorized.
I tried this on an unrooted lineage os 17, which I have on my old Mix2, and there it works like a charm.

Any water exposure? Ever?
May not be the screen; a mobo failure is just as likely even more so especially if they use no lead solder paste.
Maybe a loose or bad connector/cable if you get real lucky... and find it.
