Root + ROM/Kernel help. - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi,
So basically I'm not new to rooting, custom ROMs/Kernels etc but this is the first Samsung device that I will be doing it to. I'm used to Nexus devices which are very straightforward. As I understand it Samsung's can be complicated! I also have the Exynos version SM-G935F. So what is the best way to go about it all? What's the best way of backing up so when I set it up again I can save a bit of time (if possible)? Also having the Exynos version, I understand some ROMs/Kernels won't work? I also sincerely apologise if this is already all explained somewhere, I did have a quick look through the guides but couldn't find anything! Thank you for your help.

I much prefer Odin over Fastboot
Rooting and flashing TWRP took me less than 5 minutes

Ok thanks. Anything I can do to backup my phone to make it a bit easier when I set it up again or do I just have to completely start from scratch? And what's a recommended ROM?? I'm guessing a TW based one? Thanks.

There's only TW Roms TEKHD is very good.

Pure Android on i9505

Hey, I have some questions:
1. Can you install pure Android which comes with i9505G on i9505?
2. How long will Google make these updates for Galaxy S4? 18 months like with other Nexus devices?
1. Yes but only through custom roms.
2. Samsung push the updates to the s4 google edition. Who knows for how long.
Okay, is it easy to install ROMs and kernels on this device? Is it easy to brick it?

It's easier than HTC in general. Cf auto root did it for me. Odin flashing is very easy. I'm running echoe KitKat google edition and I'm very happy with it!

That is good to hear. Is there any custom ROM which has working IR blaster? I read about it from Cyanogenmod wiki and apparently, it doesn't work on CM.
Nearly all of them do. Just check out their descriptions. I'm using echoe rom, love it.

I read about something called knox which Samsung is putting on newer firmwares. What does that do exactly? Does it make flashing custom kernels and roms impossible, if I don't want to lose warranty?
Check out the knox sticky in this forum.

Can't root N900 (4.2.2 KitKat)

Hi,
I can't seem to root my new galaxy note 3. I am using an international device with 4.4.2 KitKat. During the cache.img process Odin gives an error and softbricks my device. What am I doing wrong here?
(SM-N9000Q
Baseband: N9000QJVUDNB1)
Thanks
*Edit: Sorry about the typo, it's 4.4.2 not 4.2.2

What rooting method did you use?
Why nobody has time to state relevant info when asking for help
I don't know, maybe the same reason why people have attitude when they clearly offer no help at all.
Anyhow, I did not specify it because I did not know there were several methods. I used Odin and CF-Auto for n900 devices. Is there a more reliable way to root Kitkat devices?

I did exactly that with two different Odin versions. The installation got stuck at "cache.img" and failed both times. I used to have an SIII and I thought I knew my way around android and rooting, but apparently not. I'm completely lost here.

You could flash a custom recovery with Odin and then flash superSU.zip in that recovery, that would get you rooted too Link cwm recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2454079.

Better check the CWM site i gave you before you start flashing if the N900Q is supported, i don`t see that specific model listed in there as it is listed for Turkey only. I see support for the N900S,T,W but not Q!

Echoe Custom Rom

Newbie here, so patience would be appreciated [emoji4]
I'm rooted with Echoe custom ROM but after noticing some battery drain (not blaming the ROM) I want to go back to a stock ROM and keep the root.
What would be the way to flash back to stock ROM and keep the root? I've seen 2 methods on XDA chainfire and the TWRP option. But I'm confused coming from a custom ROM.
I'd be grateful for any help [emoji1]
You can just flash stock rom while odin and reroot with either chain fire or twrp method

Thanks for your help. Is there any advantages using chainfire over TWRP and vice versa.

I'm not sure.
TWRP method require you to format internal storage to disable encryption but CF method won't.

My concern and my doubts on s7 Edge

Hello friends, I bought s7 Edge for the replacement of Nexus 6P. I dunno if it is a bad move or worst move. I'm little happy seeing the design of Samsung S7 Edge.
Here are my little doubts.
1. I know if we flash root, Samsung won't claim warranty. So is there anyway I can unroot my phone to claim my warranty back.
2. If I flash any custom rom from the development thread, will it count flash on s7 Edge so my warranty won't be claimed.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
It isn't root that voids Warranty it's flashing a custom recovery such as TWRP or custom kernel.
I believe you can root then use Chainfires FlashFire to flash Roms. And not trigger Knox Count
However, to flash any custom Kernels you'll trigger Knox
Once you root you'll lose Samsung Pay if you use it.

So I can't reset my knox count. Few years back we had such option right, where we could reset the trigger knox count to 0

So it will be bad idea to run all this. So can you tell me a free guide on how to root without installing recovery or triggering the knox count. I just want to enjoy the stock rom and I also want to remove some bloatwares

No, but don't listen to the above. Rooting with above method trip knox too. Currently there is no root without tripping knox.
No, a stock ROM from Sammobile will not trip knox.
