Samsung S7 mirrorlink support Appradio 4 - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hope someone could help me with this. I have been using an iPhone for the last 5 years and in such I have a Pioneer Appradio 4. I am trying to see if I could make the android jump and purchase a S7 edge.
My Appradio supports mirrorlink as well as Appradio live which is garbage.
What I have been reading is there is no Mhl / hdmi support on an s7. However mirrorlink is available on the phone. Is anyone able to confirm that the S7 will connect via mirrorlink on my Appradio? I have been looking everywhere for an answer but most of the stuff is for the older galaxy phones. Sorry if I'm a bit ignorant to searching android stuff I've been chained to iOS and CarPlay for too long.
*Side question-- with Miracast do you lose all connectivity to cell data?
Thanks for all the help in advance

If your Pioneer Carplay head unit supports also Android Auto you can use this method for connecting.
Miracast doesn't interfere with the phone running data connections (wifi or mobile).

Unfortunately it doesn't support android auto. Which is pretty lame.

I dont't know about your head unit, but generally Mirrorlink should work also with the Samsung S7 Edge.

Thanks for the info now my only question is will it work with ARunchained reloaded once this is set I'll be ordering my Galaxy and getting off this iOS nonsense

For that app to work it's required to root the Galaxy S7Edge.
Anyway, if you're not used with Galaxy rooting, Knox and related possible Samsung warranty limitations, you can find these information on the forum. Moreover, to be able to root you need to buy the Exynos version, not the Qualcomm 820.

Okay good I found it on the website it has the exynos processor. Once it's rooted and I change everything I should be able to run this app then? I messaged Area51 hopefully he will message back regarding it. Thanks again for all the info and help.

Thanks again for all the info! Hopefully it works out well.

Yes it works
I can confirm you that Galaxy S7 works with mirrorlink and the AppRadio 4. The sound and video quality are simply perfect. I have been using MHL before with Sony Xperia and ARU, mirrorlink is better. The only issues are the restrictions that mirrorlink implements in the navigation, no recent apps none slide notifications, etc. Hope some friend could mod "Samsung Mirriorlink.app" to break freee these limitations but also in the current situation i recomend you to use mirrorlink with Galaxuy S7 because as I said, the stability and quality are just perfect.

so it will only work with rooting your s7 edge? if so how do I root my s7 edge? I to want to use mirrorlink with the sph-da120

I Just installed the SPH-120 and I can only get my Galaxy s7 to connect to blue tooth. Tried the developer mode with USB debugging, Switched to MTP configurations, and both USB ports along with multiple APPS. and I cannot get it to connect.
When I connect to the second USB port, Both the phone and radio attempt to connect but the phone screen shuts off and the radio says incompatible USB (original cable).

Hi how do you connect wich cables you use to get it working like you say?

I just created an account here so I can add a reply in case anyone struggles to get MirrorLink to work. I got an SPH-DA120 to work with my Samsung S7 Edge. I went through the same process of connecting the phone, seeing the connected message on the phone screen, and then the SPH-DA120 screen says "Incompatible USB." I thought it was an error but it was simply my failure to understand MirrorLink. You have to first get a certified MirrorLink app on your phone and then choose the home button (or whatever it is...looks like a Windows 7 start menu) and your certified MirrorLink apps will show up there. When you choose the USB/Ipod2 source the HU will always say "Incompatible USB." In my case I used RockScout, which then gives you access to everything on the phone by selecting a "Choose Source" option--that mirrors your phone's screen and provides a gateway to everything on your phone.
Maybe this process is common knowledge about MirrorLink but I spent way too much time googling this and trying random things to get the phone to connect. Something else worth noting is you need a high quality USB cable. The HU seems fine with USB extensions (even cheap ones) but it requires a high quality cable to connect to the phone. Some work, some don't. Not even all Samsung cables work.
One more thing...I actually contacted Pioneer's customer support to get assistance with this. To my surprise they replied to my initial email within an hour. That's impressive for customer support at a large company like that. Admittedly I figured out that the USB cable was the problem shortly after I sent the email but the quick response from them was nice.

Can somebody confirm if a non rooted Galaxy S7 can MirrorLink using rockscout while in motion using the 7000nex soft touch bypass? Trying to mirror every app and function while in motion using the nex. This includes YouTube, Google maps, chrome etc

Great information here. I just started driving a Jeep with appradio 4 in it . I have a galaxy s8 plus. Any advice what to do?

Still stuck with my note 8. Stock android Mirrorlink works but very limited. I tried with rockscout, button savior, LG mirrordrive app etc to screen mirror my phone but n way. The only fault is with Messenger pop-up showing nicely on my car screen. So I tried rooting my phone with magisk and hide my root but the Mirrorlink app is not working anymore. When connected to my phone it says authentification not valid... and the database is no more the same when I want to add some apps in pkgnames...

Hi,
I have problem with mirrorlink pioneer sph-da110 with galaxy s7 edge when I connet via usb I see mirrorlink in appradio. I click in mirrorlink then I see Lg Mirrordrive an I choose this after that I have dark screen and nothing else happens. Somebody can help my where is problem?

So I have successfully got this working on My Verizon Samsung S5 (SM-G900V).
Here is my equipment:
SM-G900V with rooted(towel root) 4.4.4 stock rom
ARUnchained Reloaded (Unless you want to wait for years for the kernel to be set to permissive this is the fix. Spend the $30!)
Google Chrome Cast (cable to back to Appradio usb)
Tasker or MacroDroid (I use Macrodroid, it is easy for me to use)
Directions:
1) Verify root on phone (Must be rooted in order to work with ARUnchained Reloaded)
2) Plug in Google Chrome Cast into rear and power usb cable to USB from Appradio
3) Grab a spare laptop, tablet or extra phone (we all know you have at least 3 other devices)
4) Download the Google ChromeCast app (tablet or phone), Laptop (you will need Google Chrome Browser with ChromeCast
extension)
5) Power on Appradio and wait for Happy Android guy on Appradio. (Make sure you connection is set to Others!)
6) Turn on mobile hotspot on phone or device you want to use as mobile data
7) On appradio, touch through all the prompts!
8) Hopefully you see the Chromecast screen
9) Follow setup instructions for Chromecast
10) Once connected and found to work, close the application completely (this is not so important, but this way will teach you
how to cast your screen once you start or your automated system start the app)
11) Open ChromeCast and your will see turn on wifi (DO NOT CLICK THIS!), instead click the menu icon and choose cast screen,
click your Chromecast name and wait!
12) Now once the has happen you should see you phone tablet, laptop on the Appradio screen, if you try to touch now and your
still get the dreaded red X just be patient!
13) Now! Start the ARUnchained Reloaded app
14) Click start
15) Bluetooth will toggle on and off and and you may have to manually connect it from the bluetooth icon on the Appradio to get
it to work.
16) Once your ARUnchained Reloaded app states connection to SPH-DA????? has been established. hit the home button on the
radio or phone.Touch to your hearts content.
DISCLAIMERS:
I do not and cannot verify this for any other platform other than the SM_G900V running similar builds. I can assume that it would work on any other S5 since it is application and bluetooth control and not SELinux permissive driven solution. If you want to be cheap and wait for someone to crack the proverbial nut on this then have fun waiting. I will enjoy my working solution.

USB Audio Note 4

Had Iphone 6 USB on my 2011 Buick Regal USB Audio worked flawless, my wife's phone LG G4 works great.
Got tired of apple & decided to go with Samsung Note 4 now I cant get it to work, tried multiple cables, update to Lollipop 5.0 & 5.1 & none of these worked.
Called Buick they said I should use AUX cable instead, obviously I did not like that response.
DoI need to root? or is this a lost cause.

I would post a link to a website with pictures and information about what you are talking about as I have no idea what that is.
Once I understand what exactly it is I might be able help.
Just guessing but are you talking about some kind of headphone cable that uses USB to connect instead of jack?

edmunds (dot) com/buick/regal/2011/long-term-road-test/2011-buick-regal-cxl-turbo-pop-out-usb-port.html
Link attached is the USB port in car, you plug in any IOS device or LG apparently & it picks up the audio being played.
The Bluetooth feature doesn't support audio, was relying on the USB port to play music in car over Google Play.
Before getting android I tried a Samsung S4 Active & it would appear it registered it but would immediately disconnect on both sides.
I figured it was hardware side as my wifes LG G4 worked perfect decided to switch my iPhone for a Note 4 & when I plug it in the USB nothing happens.

OK link is useless as I cannot click it.
Have you checked if the company you got the USB from makes any kind of app or driver to use on some android phones?
I can assure you Bluetooth audio works very well as I use it often with my Bluetooth speakers. I also used it to stream music to my Sony car stereo via Bluetooth.
I have never used the USB to stream music but I know that there is an app that does some thing to make phone simulate a USB stick so if you where to connect the phone via USB to a stereo deck it would play the music on the deck from the phone.
Sadly I cannot remember what it was called.

Well I can't copy as I use tapatalk.
www.google.com
Easy to make a clickeble link.
OK so that buick thing is not the USB cable so I assume it's some kind of speaker system.
Regarding the root. Custom roms are much better then bloated stock roms in my opinion so it's well worth it and specially now that Note 5 ports are out.
Plus even if you wish to keep stock rom just rooting it will give you full ownership over your phone but nonrooted users can't really say the own there phones as both Samsung and phone company have more control over your phone then you ?
Anyways I strongly suggest you at least root the phone. No need to change firmware if you don't want to but the rooting process alone will give you unlimited freedom with the phone beyond the possibility of icrap can offer with jailbreak.

Do you stream through USB or using MTP & treat your Phone as a USB Storage?
EDIT:
I found this thread & I hope it will help you.
USB Flash Drive use in Audio System
There's a possibility that your Note 4 microSD card was formatted using exFAT & the "old" Buick USB system can't recognize it.
Try to use FAT32 (with its inferiority towards exFAT).
Another solution is using AUX (Draining Note 4 battery)
Last resort is using USB flash drive
NOTE:
Some system can only recognize limited size of USB storage.
Some are limited only to 4 GB, some can only read 32GB & won't read anything with larger capacity.

Sorry for asking this, but do you know what streaming means? (no offense )
If you are streaming the music, it means you are playing the music from your Mobile Phone & direct the sound out of it through either USB, Bluetooth or AUX.
So Streaming will drain your Phone battery.
Usually, car USB system doesn't do this.
Car USB system usually access any device connected through USB as a USB Mass Storage Device & then play the content using its own built in Audio System.
Have you checked the link I gave you?

My car USB does have this feature can play audio of a youtube vid, google play radio, pandora, ect over USB on selected devices it seems.
As stated above it works fine with an LG & IOS phones but has yet to work on Samsung.
Thought there could be a quick fix out there, but that doesnt seem to be the case.
More likely going to swap my phone out for an LG if I can find someone willing.
Worst case scenario I have a iphone 4 which I will use via hotspot in the car.

Thanks for suggestion but it did not work, for the meantime using an Iphone 4 via hotspot for my normal commute I just use FM radio.
Was thinking maybe I can have hotspot automatically turn on when I'm in my car but that might be too much to ask for with current technology.
You win some, you lose some this one I lost no one interested in changing Note 4 for LG G4 in my area.

Mirror Link on Nexus 6P?

Has anyone been able to get Mirror Link up and running on the 6P? It's not one of the certified products for Mirror Link but there are zips to get the server and apk running.
I would try it but I dont have a compatible car yet, hopefully soon XD
Add persist.debug.wfd.enable=1 to the bottom of your build.prop file in the system folder, save, and reboot. Enable miracast in the cast settings in the settings app as well with the 3 dot menu. You'll need root to do it.

Sorry if this is redundant or off track, but could you please explain further. I added "persist.debug.wfd.enable=1" to build.prop via root explorer text editor and saved. I rebooted the phone then navigated to Settings/Display/Cast, hit the three dot menu and selected "Enable wireless display", nothing appeared. Am I missing something? I'm on 6.0.1, rooted, stock with a 2016 Subaru with Clarion HU.
The only other thing I did was turn Wi-Fi on
Mirrorlink (usb connection) is different to Miracast (WIFI) so are people giving advice on getting Miracast working when the OP asked about Mirrorlink?

What exactly are you trying to do? The tweak to the build.prop listed above is all you need to enable Miracast devices on the 6P. And that is the only way to do it, AFAIK. It worked for my phone to cast my phone to my Pioneer NEX stereo.

OP is talking about MirrorLink (mirrorlink.com), not Miracast and as far as I know, those two are different things. What i'm trying to do is connect my phone to my car with MirrorLink technology (which is more than just screen casting).
Mirrorlink is something built into the device, either your car has it, or it doesn't. There are no zip files to install. On the phone side you need the appropriate vendor client app installed. It isn't more than screen casting really, it just has a wrapper that controls what the casting apps can and can't do like chromecast. What mirrorlink enabled car stereo do you have JoeyXD?
My car does have MirrorLink built-in and it works with other phones (i.e. Galaxy S5). But as OP mentioned in his first post, Nexus 6P is not certified MirrorLink device. So to put it simple, is there any way, to make Nexus 6P work with MirrorLink enabled car "stereos"?

I was referring to it as how I use it, sorry. My Pioneer NEX stereo has Mirror Link and I connect to it using a Miracast device, Screen Beam Mini2 plugged into the HDMI port. Or at least, that's how I believe it works, using Mirror Link.
And you're right, it can do more than mirroring with the right app. I use App Radio Unchained and have the full functionality of my phone on my NEX. Pretty neat stuff.

What car is it? How are you launching it on the S5? Most head units need the phone to have the application also on the phone end to initiate and control the Mirrorlink connectivity.
The 6P is not Miracast certified either, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work. Maybe a description of how it does work on other phones for that particular car will help diagnose. Mirrorlink essentially works in a similar way to Chromecast without the need for the internet connection. It still needs a client at the phone end to work.
Has anyone figured if nexus 6p can have mirrorlink enabled ?
Thanks
I have a Screen Beam Mini2 and when my nexus tried to connect to the Screen Beam Mini2 it reboots.. I have enabled the wireless display option...

Had MirrorLink functioning on my 2016 Toyota Aygo with a Samsung S7. This was my bosses phone, I have a Nexus 5 - Searching, fruitlessly for a solution. But here is how MirrorLink (Not MirrorCast!!!!!) seems to work in my car.
Hit connection button on screen in car
Connect phone
Wait a few seconds until connection made
MirrorLink apps appear on in-car screen. Phone screen goes black with S7.
Note - It doesn't seem to mirror. It uses certified apps. Which is fine, if the phone even works.
I did read that Google deactivated MirrorLink on their Nexus line because it is illegal to have a MirrorLink device forward of the drivers seat in California. This could just be internet speak.
I am dying to use this feature and not replace my phone

Unable to use external DAC with S8+

I have no issue getting my Chord Mojo working with the UAPP app on my S8+ but when I try to use band camp, youtube or any other apps it will not route audio to the DAC properly. Note that UAPP uses a proprietary driver for routing data to the extetnal DAC. A notification comes up when connection Mojo to S8+ via micro usb-usb c otg cable(see screenshot below)
I have tried every option in the normal settinsg and developer mode but no matter what it just reverts back to "charge connected device". I have played around with all the USB settings in Developed mode;
Prevent automatic usb routing
Setting the usb device to audio source,
/MTP
Etc
Nothing works.
I even uninstalled UAPP, attached Mojo and opened band camp, still nothing. Worse yet, often it will freeze with Mojo connected and then restart itself or get stuck on the carrier boot screen during restart.
Seems that Android system is not allowing the device to connect properly although I can't be sure. I just want to be able to send all my audio to my exceptional Chord Mojo. Bummer because everything worked fine on S7 Edge running Android 7.0 when I selected MTP under developer options. Unless there's a fix I'll only be able to use Mojo with UAPP.

New apple CarPlay usb dongle for android headhunts and tablets.

The above video is my review, i have it working great with my ownice c200 headunit. the usb seems to register that to the iPhone that it is a CarPlay device. the CarPlay UI apparently is stored and sent from the iPhone its self to the usb dongle and then sent to the android app. the app then sends touch and audio commands back to the usb dongle and then to the iPhone.
i can send photos of the internals of the device to any one who wants and a link to the APK.
MOD EDIT: removed email address and mention of selling head units. XDA is not a place to make money!
great !!!

First Step: updating the CAR PLAY USB DONGLE
Plug in the car play usb dongle on the PC, copy the "update.bin" file under the root of the dongle, no extra file folder and no any operation, just wait for 5 minutes, it will be quit automatically after updating, then pull off the USB dongle.
Second Step: Uninstall the old version ZBOX softare from the car audio, then intall the new one, then it will be ok to work.(With the new APK in the attachment and follow the manual)

The issue you are experiencing with the zbox having 'stage-fright' has to do with the power requirements of the zbox device. Some USB bus' don't provide enough power (or borderline) so functionality is intermittent. If you use a powered USB hub, that provides additional power to the USB ports, you'll have almost no issues.
I have connected a y USB adapter.
Has anyone tried one of these on a PX3 RK3166 head unit?
I have one but cant get it to work.
It connects to the apk but wont connect to the iphone.
Tried the update to firmware and apk, still no joy.
Not sure if i have a faulty dongle or it's a compatibility issue with these head units.
Alibaba seller suggested not enough power on head units usb?
I have the same problem with one of these.....
I have tried three android units now and I still can’t get them to work....
Android 4.4 it says its connect but the iPhone just shows as not found....
The other two are both 6.0.1 and the zbox just shows connecting all the time!
If any one has any help it would greatfully be received..
Or for that matter any software updates.....
Mine is showing apk: 2.1.0
Zbox versions: 2.1.0
Many thanks and kind regards
Mine works and I have a px3. I updated the device and installed the latest zbox app before I tried it. I would try swapping out cords and making sure they are certified by Apple. The only issue I have with mine is that it cannot be controlled from the steering wheel.

I use a second usb-plug and a y-cable to provide sufficient power to the device.
What do you guys do with regards to phone calls? My phone is obviously paired to the head unit via Bluetooth, so whenever I get a Call, it jumps out of CarPlay/zbox to the Stock phone interface, however the phone still transmits the audio to carplay and not via Bluetooth by default.
How any of you solved that problem?
If you are using CarPlay why do you have Bluetooth paired? Every car I've been in with CarPlay diconnects the phone from Bluetooth.

Android Auto
Is there also a solution for Android Auto on Android Head Units ?

I have an Eonon GA7157 running a:
CPU: Allwinner R16 1.6GHz Cortex A7 Quad-Core
RAM: SAMSUNG DDR3, 1GB
Storage: 16GB
I have tried App and Firmware 2.x and 3.x. No joy. All I get is "Connecting" when the usb dongle and app is started. It never gets passed this "Connecting..." stage. USB devices like keyboards, mice, USB Flash drives, and even video camera work fine on this headunit. The Zbox Z1 and an OTA tuner don't work for some reason.
I did some more troubleshooting and found out the following: The dongle works perfectly on my PC running Remix. I also tried it on Samsung Table A; on this one, same symptom as the head unit, so I tried using an OTG cable and what do you know, it worked perfectly.
Therefore, I have 2 possible explanations: The headhunt's USB cable needs to be hardwire as OTG or Eonon somehow has decided to block certain type of USB devices that request data asynchronously. Why? I have not clue... I wish I could disable this flag in the OS, but I have not clue where it can be done. My headunit is rooted, so it should be possible in theory.
Hello, could you post pictures of the internals? I'm very curious what's inside the lil dongle. Also: do you still have some of the dongles? haha

This guy has done a few videos on the unit.
Hey, can someone help me to find the Zbox Z APK 3.0 to Download in English?
I have the 3.0 in Chinese only. And the 2.1 doesn’t work. My Firmware is 3.0
