appradio 3 and galaxy s5 - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone got a verizon galaxy s5 to work with pioneer appradio 3? I have rooted my phone, and installed APunchained, but no luck. I am not opposed to a custom Rom or kernal, but cant find a verizon compatible one. Any help would be great. If i cant resolve this, i will have a brand new appradio 3 up for sale.

So I have successfully got this working on My Verizon Samsung S5 (SM-G900V).
Here is my equipment:
SM-G900V with rooted(towel root) 4.4.4 stock rom
ARUnchained Reloaded (Unless you want to wait for years for the kernel to be set to permissive this is the fix. Spend the $30!)
Google Chrome Cast (cable to back to Appradio usb)
Tasker or MacroDroid (I use Macrodroid, it is easy for me to use)
Directions:
1) Verify root on phone (Must be rooted in order to work with ARUnchained Reloaded)
2) Plug in Google Chrome Cast into rear and power usb cable to USB from Appradio
3) Grab a spare laptop, tablet or extra phone (we all know you have at least 3 other devices)
4) Download the Google ChromeCast app (tablet or phone), Laptop (you will need Google Chrome Browser with ChromeCast
extension)
5) Power on Appradio and wait for Happy Android guy on Appradio. (Make sure you connection is set to Others!)
6) Turn on mobile hotspot on phone or device you want to use as mobile data
7) On appradio, touch through all the prompts!
8) Hopefully you see the Chromecast screen
9) Follow setup instructions for Chromecast
10) Once connected and found to work, close the application completely (this is not so important, but this way will teach you
how to cast your screen once you start or your automated system start the app)
11) Open ChromeCast and your will see turn on wifi (DO NOT CLICK THIS!), instead click the menu icon and choose cast screen,
click your Chromecast name and wait!
12) Now once the has happen you should see you phone tablet, laptop on the Appradio screen, if you try to touch now and your
still get the dreaded red X just be patient!
13) Now! Start the ARUnchained Reloaded app
14) Click start
15) Bluetooth will toggle on and off and and you may have to manually connect it from the bluetooth icon on the Appradio to get
it to work.
16) Once your ARUnchained Reloaded app states connection to SPH-DA????? has been established. hit the home button on the
radio or phone.Touch to your hearts content.
DISCLAIMERS:
I do not and cannot verify this for any other platform other than the SM_G900V running similar builds. I can assume that it would work on any other S5 since it is application and bluetooth control and not SELinux permissive driven solution. If you want to be cheap and wait for someone to crack the proverbial nut on this then have fun waiting. I will enjoy my working solution.

[Q] Screen mirroring issue - Unable to connect to Allshare cast hub and TV

Hey
As I dont have a 2013 Samsung TV but want to get screen mirroring in my living room I purchased the Samsung "Allshare Cast Hub" which does wireless screen mirroring via WiFi and HDMI in to the TV.
After setting up the hub (connecting to TV/Receiver and plugging in power) and enabling "Screen mirroring" on my Note 3 the display on the TV says "Connecting..." and on the Note 3 it says "Screen mirroring enabled" with the icon showing in the notifications panel.
After about 1 minute (TV/Hub still says "Connecting...") a message appears on the Note 3 "Screen mirroring disabled" and the TV goes back to the connection instructions or sometimes black and I need to unplug the power to the hub to get it back on again.
I have tried both soft reset (30 sec battery out) as well as starting in safe mode, same result.
Anyone who has got screen mirroring working, and if so how and with what?
I also tried breifly to to a simpler Allshare imagine sharing to my 2012 Samsung 8005 LCD TV (which worked fine on my Note 2) but the phone and TV do not recognize each other (TV does not appear in list of "players" to share pictures with).
Would appreciate any help!
Cheers
------------------------------------------------------------
Update 2013-10-07
The problem has been isolated to my receiver (Sony DA-5300ES), it will work just fine when connecting directly to the TV or to another TV via HDMI but not via the receiver. When connected to the receiver it hangs during the connection phase.
To the same receiver using the same cable I have connected an XBox 360, PS3 and a dual core Android HDMI stick without any issues, so im 100% sure there are not issues there.
Has anyone had any luck getting screen mirroring to work via a receiver?
M8 you are not rooted right? I ask this because the same dongle didn't want to connect to my note 10.1 because it was rooted and I haven't rooted yet my gn3 and this is one of the reasons.

Hey Chris
Thanks for the reply, no I havent rooted it (yet)... Does your Note 3 work with the hub? Did you do the firmware update as well?
I doubt returning either phone or hub will solve the problem, to me this feels like a SW incompatibility issue...
Cheers

It works fine m8, you know as I was experience the problems with note 10.1 I read a lot so I spotted many people with different kind of troubles like the hdmi port in TV, try to change port m8 in TV to be sure.
I also don't have samsung but LG this is not the problem for sure. I did all the firmware updates
M8 a final question. I got it you are not rooted but is it possible to have busybox in your N3? It's crucial question because this was giving me exact the same behavior as yours in my 10.1

Ok good to know it "should" and can work at least...
I dont see how it could be the HDMI port as the image from the hub displays correctly on the TV, but I guess its worth a try. Ill plug it to the back of my Samsung LCD TV in the office and see if it makes a difference.
I don't have any root / admin apps installed. Only basics front-end stuff like Nova launcher and a bunch of apps, Avast antivirus/theft which is the most back-end feature I can think of I have running.
I have even started the phone in safe mode and its the same deal (I assume it does not run more than just the very basic apps in this mode).
Ill give the local Samsung support a go today, the US only told me to soft reset and try safe mode.

for me this did the trick:
you have to long-click on the screencast device (to which you want to connect) in in the screen mirroring settings, then the option "connect with PIN" appears! select it and with the PIN displayed on the TV you are now able to connect!
Thanks for this tip!
I did try this initially as well and again a few minutes ago... The pin comes up on the TV and the prompt to enter on the phone, but once i key in the pin and continue its the same story:
1. "Connecting..." appears on the TV
2. "Screen mirroring enabled" appears on the Note 3 (but no screen mirroring actually happens to the TV which still says "Connecting...")
3. After about a minute i get "Screen mirroring disabled" on the phone and the TV goes black or back to connection instructions

yeah m8.. exactly what huppened to me... look if you can test the 2nd HDMI... test in other TV ... if you got any other sasmung device test that also (this forced me to look in rooting problem because a unrooted galaxy S3 was able to connect fine and i was unable to connect with the same problems as you have... at least i understood that it wasnt problem from the all share cast side)... and if nothing works then bring it back to the shop... as i think it maybe that is a good solution to do it in the 1st place because there someone will have a sammy phone to test it on the fly.
I had to use the pin to connect to the screencast device. The dongle has the most recent firmware and my Note3 is an unrooted vanilla UK version
I previously had a rooted Note2 which would not connect via the dongle (after firmware update) which incorrectly reported the following. It is an HDCP compliant TV Samsung 2013 model)

Found the reason... As you suggested I tried a different HDMI input (and on a different device, direct on my 2012 Samsung LCD TV instead of Sony Receiver to Toshiba LCD TV) and then it works immediately without any issues!
That is so weird... How can the connection (phone to hub) have anything to do with the output to the receiver? I guess there is some sync signal when it switches from default 720P to 1080P from the Note 3 which is not compatible with some HDMI components.
The whole reason why i bought it was to use with my receiver so I can get audio from my phone (and video) wireless in the living room... Ill try some other ports on the receiver to see if that helps but I doubt it...
Anyway now i know there isnt a hardware issue on the hub or Note 3, and software works with some HDMI components at least
Thanks for the help!!

Yesterday I bought this device and have the same problem. It doesn't work when I plug it into Yamaha Receiver. I've tried everything but nothing worked out. As a temporary solution, I pluged AllShare Cast dongle into my Samsung TV then I connected Samsung TV and Yamaha receiver with Optical Cable. And now I can use Screen Mirroring with my TV with sound output through the receiver.
I tried to connect Note 3 to Philips 6008 series via Screen Mirroring. With Galaxy S4 there is no problem to do that but with Note 3 it is impossible.
S4 recognizes, that my TV does not have HDCP and consequently starts a session without HDCP. However, Note3 does not recognize it. I've got message that this is unable to start Screen Mirroring because HDCP is not supported with connected device. I think it's a problem from the Note3 software. Can someone now what we have to change to make this thing works?
ahh,m the screen mirroring i hate it
i have note2, note 3 and samsung smart tv.
on my note 2 with clean instal + root screen mirroring works fine. On note 3 with over moth of using and instaling stuff - it does not work.
Solution by samsung - wipe device. Funny but it always help. With some time devices stop connecting to TV. i can pair devices but after few seconds there is: Screen mirroring disabled or Screen mirroring disconected. Wipe and it works again.
other solution is this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sec.screenmirroringpatch
Link from google play is incopatibile with Note 3
Screen mirroring issues - Note 3 Exynos SM-900

I have a new international version of Note 3 (Exynos) SM-N900 with andorid 4.3 OS . I am facing a similar problem which doing screen mirroring using a HDMI miracast supported wiresless dongle. The dongle is detected by the NOTE 3 and when i press "connect" on the phone. It says connecting for sometime than connects for a few seconds and gets disconnected with a message "Screen mirroing disabled". I have tried connected the dongle to different HDMI ports on my TV. i tried switching og my home Wi-Fi as miracast uses a P2P connection. Still it has not helped.
I am not sure if anyone has faced a similar problem but it seems to be a huge set back for the exynos Note 3 with the scree mirroing not working. Do we have any solutions or workarounds to fix this. Appreciate if anyone here can help me fix this.

Nexus 4 + AppRadio as Dedicated Device

I've searched and searched and can't find out how to fix this problem...
I used to use a Samsung Galaxy Nexus as a dedicated device for my AppRadio 2 Headunit, and have recently wanted to step up to the Nexus 4 as my dedicated "AppRadio" device.
I used to have it so my Samsung Nexus would boot upon power detection, and shutdown w/ a tasker profile after power was no longer deteced. This worked great.
When I switched to a Nexus 4 and Slimport, I have no problem connecting to AppRadio if I unplug / replug the device. I'm trying to eliminate the need to do this.
So TL;DR...
Problem: Appradio & Nexus 4 don't detect Slimport upon bootup (if plugged in while booting)
Solution that I don't know how to reach: Either create a tasker command to mimic "unplugging" and "replugging" of the USB, or find a way for the Slimport to autoboot after initializing.
Any suggestions?

Kernals: Tried Franco & Stock

[Q] Need help recovering data from phone with broken Screen

Hey guys!
I've been looking around for help on this one but I've come up short.
I've got a Note 3 and I've killed the LCD. the phone still works can hear it working etc.
I need to backup a game (clash of clans... ). To do this, normally i'd link it to my google account, and then sync it to my new phone (another note 3).
However I cant get access.,.. And Keis will backup my apps but wont let me install them on any phone other than the original!
I saw there was a prog called Android Connect, however my phone didn't have USB debugging enabled. And i'm far too noivice to compile a kernel to enable it.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking a HDMI MHL2.0 cable to get the screen onto the TV, but i'd still need to control it somehow, and the usb port would be taken up by the hdmi adapter so cant plug in a OTG cable and a usb mouse!.
I've tried a MHL1.2 cable and it wont work., but I've found on ebay, mhl1.2 adapters with USB ports, but none that support MHL2.0..
Such a predicament! any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I've invested a lot of time (and admittedly money) into this game and i'd hate to waste it!
Thanks
Sam
I'm in a similar situation. My girlfriend just got a S5 Active a few weeks ago and has managed to break the screen already, and they say guys are hard on stuff. Screen will not come on at all and has a pattern lock. Is there any other way to get into the phone to backup files? Kies would be fine in my case but I can't unlock to use it. Since it is new I hadn't had a chance to set up Samsung find my mobile or Android device manager. Help us both please!
Note 3
Is your phone rooted?
Hmm looks like this thread died
Nah phone is pretty stock... I have an Sview case so it unlocks the phone for me...
Have ordered an MHL2.0 cable so should be able to see the screen, but still no idea on control
Disregard - didn't see you had not enabled adb.

Unfortunately I don't think I have developer options enabled. Which is causing this predicament.:crying:
Ok. I'm stupid.
Google sidesync. Download and install pc application. Then go to Google Play store on your pc and find sidesync and click install, select your device and let it install remotely (wait about 3-5 min). Reboot your device, launch sidesync on your pc and connect your device via usb. Select usb in pc app.
If all goes well, you'll have full control and phone screen on your pc.

Just tried this with my new Note 3, and you have to run the app on the phone before you can mirror...
Dammit.... so close!
Thanks for the suggestion! feel like im getting somewhere
Argh. I din't recall having to run it first... but yes, progress is always good!
Another option is the Samsung media dock, you can use it to get mhl and usb kb/mouse at the same time.

Samsung S7 mirrorlink support Appradio 4

Hope someone could help me with this. I have been using an iPhone for the last 5 years and in such I have a Pioneer Appradio 4. I am trying to see if I could make the android jump and purchase a S7 edge.
My Appradio supports mirrorlink as well as Appradio live which is garbage.
What I have been reading is there is no Mhl / hdmi support on an s7. However mirrorlink is available on the phone. Is anyone able to confirm that the S7 will connect via mirrorlink on my Appradio? I have been looking everywhere for an answer but most of the stuff is for the older galaxy phones. Sorry if I'm a bit ignorant to searching android stuff I've been chained to iOS and CarPlay for too long.
*Side question-- with Miracast do you lose all connectivity to cell data?
Thanks for all the help in advance
If your Pioneer Carplay head unit supports also Android Auto you can use this method for connecting.
Miracast doesn't interfere with the phone running data connections (wifi or mobile).
Unfortunately it doesn't support android auto. Which is pretty lame.
I dont't know about your head unit, but generally Mirrorlink should work also with the Samsung S7 Edge.
Thanks for the info now my only question is will it work with ARunchained reloaded once this is set I'll be ordering my Galaxy and getting off this iOS nonsense

For that app to work it's required to root the Galaxy S7Edge.
Anyway, if you're not used with Galaxy rooting, Knox and related possible Samsung warranty limitations, you can find these information on the forum. Moreover, to be able to root you need to buy the Exynos version, not the Qualcomm 820.

Okay good I found it on the website it has the exynos processor. Once it's rooted and I change everything I should be able to run this app then? I messaged Area51 hopefully he will message back regarding it. Thanks again for all the info and help.

Yes it works
I can confirm you that Galaxy S7 works with mirrorlink and the AppRadio 4. The sound and video quality are simply perfect. I have been using MHL before with Sony Xperia and ARU, mirrorlink is better. The only issues are the restrictions that mirrorlink implements in the navigation, no recent apps none slide notifications, etc. Hope some friend could mod "Samsung Mirriorlink.app" to break freee these limitations but also in the current situation i recomend you to use mirrorlink with Galaxuy S7 because as I said, the stability and quality are just perfect.

I Just installed the SPH-120 and I can only get my Galaxy s7 to connect to blue tooth. Tried the developer mode with USB debugging, Switched to MTP configurations, and both USB ports along with multiple APPS. and I cannot get it to connect.
When I connect to the second USB port, Both the phone and radio attempt to connect but the phone screen shuts off and the radio says incompatible USB (original cable).
Hi how do you connect wich cables you use to get it working like you say?

I just created an account here so I can add a reply in case anyone struggles to get MirrorLink to work. I got an SPH-DA120 to work with my Samsung S7 Edge. I went through the same process of connecting the phone, seeing the connected message on the phone screen, and then the SPH-DA120 screen says "Incompatible USB." I thought it was an error but it was simply my failure to understand MirrorLink. You have to first get a certified MirrorLink app on your phone and then choose the home button (or whatever it is...looks like a Windows 7 start menu) and your certified MirrorLink apps will show up there. When you choose the USB/Ipod2 source the HU will always say "Incompatible USB." In my case I used RockScout, which then gives you access to everything on the phone by selecting a "Choose Source" option--that mirrors your phone's screen and provides a gateway to everything on your phone.
Maybe this process is common knowledge about MirrorLink but I spent way too much time googling this and trying random things to get the phone to connect. Something else worth noting is you need a high quality USB cable. The HU seems fine with USB extensions (even cheap ones) but it requires a high quality cable to connect to the phone. Some work, some don't. Not even all Samsung cables work.
One more thing...I actually contacted Pioneer's customer support to get assistance with this. To my surprise they replied to my initial email within an hour. That's impressive for customer support at a large company like that. Admittedly I figured out that the USB cable was the problem shortly after I sent the email but the quick response from them was nice.
Can somebody confirm if a non rooted Galaxy S7 can MirrorLink using rockscout while in motion using the 7000nex soft touch bypass? Trying to mirror every app and function while in motion using the nex. This includes YouTube, Google maps, chrome etc
Great information here. I just started driving a Jeep with appradio 4 in it . I have a galaxy s8 plus. Any advice what to do?
Still stuck with my note 8. Stock android Mirrorlink works but very limited. I tried with rockscout, button savior, LG mirrordrive app etc to screen mirror my phone but n way. The only fault is with Messenger pop-up showing nicely on my car screen. So I tried rooting my phone with magisk and hide my root but the Mirrorlink app is not working anymore. When connected to my phone it says authentification not valid... and the database is no more the same when I want to add some apps in pkgnames...
Hi,
I have problem with mirrorlink pioneer sph-da110 with galaxy s7 edge when I connet via usb I see mirrorlink in appradio. I click in mirrorlink then I see Lg Mirrordrive an I choose this after that I have dark screen and nothing else happens. Somebody can help my where is problem?

Pairing NON-media/input Bluetooth devices (OBD2 dongle)

Hey everyone! I bought an Onn. Streaming Box at Walmart a couple of days ago, intending to run Torque Pro on my car's preexisting Backup Screen w/ a Bluetooth OBD2 dongle (a tiny $25 self-contained Android box seemed to make a lot of sense for that application). I sideloaded the Torque apk onto the box and used a remote app w/ mouse cursor to set up the layout, but when I went to finally pair the OBD2 dongle, it wouldn't pick it up. Since the screen just says "Accessories", I'm guessing you can only pair things like headphones, controllers, keyboards, etc.
I also tried sideloading "Bluetooth Direct", and forcibly connecting to my phone's Bluetooth address (just to test), and it couldn't connect (it seems like that app doesn't work for a lot of people though).
Is there any way around this?
I'm waiting for a powered OTG cable to be delivered today, so I can root and hopefully figure something out that way. It seems weird if it's really a limitation built into the OS, since regular android is buried underneath there somewhere, and it isn't like the box has some special Bluetooth hardware that limits it to certain devices.
If all else fails, maybe I could just get an OBD2 to USB cord and plug into an OTG, but idk if that would work either (it should on other Android devices).
And for anyone wondering, yes, the Android TV UI optimized for giant 4k TV's does not work well on a 5" 480p HDMI -> RCA screen, LOL.
Figured this out if anybody wants to do something similar, I just sideloaded the app "Bluetooth Scanner - Bluetooth finder - pairing" (com.pzolee.bluetoothscanner), and was able to pair it right away. I am running LineageOS and rooted with Magisk, but I'd think this should work on stock too.
