Here's the story
1. this phone wouldn't boot up after the OTA update, the screen read "firmware upgrade encountered an issue.
please use software repair assistant & try again."
2. used odin 3.09 to reflash pit and the latest nc4 official firmware (I know it can't be rooted, but that's the only choice I have).
3. phone came back alive, worked for t-mobile and verizon sim cards.
Problem:
after a few hours or maybe a day, or maybe a restart, phone won't detect sim card, baseband version shows unkwown, hardware
version is empty, imei, network, MIN, PRL version, ERI version, imeisv, iccid are all "unknown".
What I have done:
phone will be back to normal if I flash the firmware again, I've use odin 3.09 and kies 3 many times.
I also tried flashing different modems, for ex, MI9, MJE, NC2 even NC4. But phone will keep restarting, sometimes the phone is working after
a few restarts. But eventually I will have the same problem again.
I was wondering if someone could point me to the right direction?

When you flashed the different modems, did you check settings/about the phone to verify that the modem flash " took"? Recommend entering Odin from power off, especially when flashing modems. FWIW, I'm not at all sure this will fix your problem, but it's worth a shot.

Yes I did. The baseband version showed MI9 when my phone was still working properly.

OK. Hopefully someone else will chime in with some suggestions.
one more thing I've done many times so far is, sometimes a full reset will bring it back to normal too.
settings -> backup and reset -> factory data reset.
I don't mind bricking my phone, but maybe someone knows other possible way, say, flashing EFS? I don't even know what that is.
I've been searching for the right solution but I haven't found one yet.
Never ever give up!
I'm the OP and I finally got it working. I simply ran EFS Professional v2.1.73, did a backup and restore of the EFS. That's it!
Did you figure out what efs is?

It didn't last long, and using EFS profession for EFS backup/restore never worked again.
I then saw this page the other day,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2610757
So I used odin to flash
pit
official kitkat rom
I also checked these two,
erase nand
erase EFS
the phone booted up fine, I then turned it off and entered recovery mode, did a data and cache wipe, then booted up the phone again, that brought back my imei, my sim card worked again.
Unfortunately I'll lose it again once I flash a custom rom, or perhaps even a reboot.
I'm still searching for a permanent solution. But at least now I can use my sim card with a stock rom
Rom based on which region?

Can you please tell the stock rom based on which CSC ? or country ?
I'm having the same issue. Lost baseband and imei, but never got it recovered. even with stock.
I use this one,

Same boat brother, this is what I've posted. So far I'm a week in this situation, battery pull brings it back, any mod like Xposed with module where you have to reboot looses the baseband, IMEI etc. I have backup of the EFS and restored it multiple time with no joy.
Need some advice guys for Verizon my Note 3, I'm currently stock NC4 ready to. flash this bad boy ROM, after root access with TowelRoot, installation of BusyBox and Supersu no SafeTrap yet. Once I reboot in this state, I have the Baseband unknown under Settings-About Phone status all unknown info on IME etc etc. Off course I loose 4G signal all together. I may reboot again and it comes back. I know about EFS partition corruption and have multiple backup of My note 3 EFs partition. Even with restore it would still happen. I have exhausted all my knowledge learned throughout the years from you guys. But, I'm asking some help again. I am very familiar with all the terms about flashing/rooting so please feel free to throw some genius on how I can fix this thing.

Hello, I hope you can help me with my problem.
I am using a Galaxy S4 i337m Canadian Version locked down to Fido. I was trying to install Google Play Edition 4.4.4 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537495. I installed TWRP, did a full wipe, and then flashed the GPE zip. It rebooted, most things seemed to be working, except it showed 'No service', and could not make any calls. It would start to call, then the screen would go black and it would lock up. I went back to a stock rom, but was still getting the same problem.
Now Data is working, and wifi, but cannot make calls. I have checked the APN and all checks out. I flashed the modem.bin file proper for my device via TWRP, I tried via Odin, but it fails in Odin.
I did 2 previous ones for family members, exact same phone, same carrier, with no problems. I don't know why this one is doing this. I have backed up and restored efs with EFS Professional, did not help. Please, please any suggestions.
Thank You.
Edit: I have also left the battery and sim out of the phone for 2 hours to no avail.
Edit: I have tried 5 different 4.4.2 stock roms, all have the same outcome. Cannot make calls, trying to fails and makes the phone lag out. Wifi and data are working, IM sort of works. It says it cannot send, but then 10 mins later the recipient gets it. Still cannot flash modem.bin files in Odin, install goes to the end, then says Fail all in red. I can install successfully the .zip via TWRP though, but it changes nothing. Have tried a few different Canadian modems.
Fixed: Installed stock firmware: I337MVLUFNE1_I337MOYAFNE2_I337MVLUFNE1_HOME.tar, and everything came up as normal. Wiped, flashed Google Play Edition 4.4.4, working flawlessly. Note: Firmware I337MVLUFNC1_I337MOYAFNC1_I337MVLUFNC1_HOME.tar didn't work, even though it was older and only a month apart from the FNE1....your phone likes what it likes I guess. The reason it took so long is it took between 6 to 36 hours to download from some of the 2012-2013 links given at 5-15kbps, I had to just wait and try other things while waiting for the 1.5GB Firmwares to download so I could try them.
First Id like to say I'm new to all this stuff, rooting, flashing etc... So I don't know all the terms and such.
So I rooted my Galaxy s4 (sgh-1337m) and all was well, I tried to get a program called xmodgames running on my enforcing phone following some steps I found on YouTube. I had to make the xmodgames app a system app so I did that then I cleared my dalvik data as it was one of the steps, it cleared about 12 files then about 1 minute after doing that I got a error telling me a system file was not responding and I rebooted my phone, it wouldn't boot past the Samsung launch screen. So I had to hunt around for some stock firmware, I did that found what I believed to be my stock firmware, put it on and all seemed well, except my WiFi just wouldn't turn on. I tried clearing my data, reformatting it to factory, Download kies and updated it through that and now my phone is a mess, its slow, WiFi still doesn't work, I cant see the task bar at the top where it shows battery status and WiFi status and it locks up on me. At this point I'm downloading a more exact firmware meant for a koodo s4 sgh 1337m which is what I have. I'm downloading the oldest one from 2 years ago as its about when I bought this phone. And I'm going to see if that helps, I also read there are WiFi fixes and modem fixes but I have no idea where to start with those. Also its only my WiFi that doesn't work, Bluetooth, data, phone calls All work.
Wrong forum. You posted this in the International S4 forum. In time, the moderators will move this to the correct forum, which is http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att. Information related to your device will be found there.
Ahh ic okay sorry about that!
Quick, recap, I own a galaxy S5 Lolipop 5.1.1 SM-G900W8 build #LMY47X.G900W8VLU1COI4, previously rooted.
It all begin, when my phone been experiencing some battery draining issue. So I decide to do factory rest. But get this at that time my phone was fully rooted, w/Lolipop 5.1.1...
So I've read all the informations I could get online made sure to unroot the phone ( using CF-Auto Root ktlevl-sm G900W8.), with Odin, and reflash the phone with custom recory (G900W8VLU1COI4.tar.md5 file). I've made sure to get the exact one matching my phone carrier.
And after rooted the phone...All went well...Then 24-48 hours after the **** hit the fan.!!!!
They weere dialogue box keep poping up, from Touchwiz has closed, to Unified Daemond has closed just to name a few...
I decided to factory rest the phone again, reflash and rooted same problem occuring occuring.
So I decide not to root and the issue stop but now I'm unable to fully use my phone because it anin't root so certain function of my phone can't benefit such like using Airplane mode or Mobile data toggle using tasker. When my phone was fully rooted I was able to take full advantage of my Tasker profile. I've google the web and came acrros people who expericing the same issue as I did, but can't find a solution.
If there anyone who had that problem and manage to solve it, kindly share your story and solution with me....
Thank you in advance on getting back to me,
Hi,
I've recently rooted my s7 edge (SM-G935F) and all seemed to go quite well until I uninstalled xposed and my phone went into an FRT lock. This was probably due to a wipe I did while rooting after which I forgot to enable OEM changes. To fix this I flashed firmware using Odin to this one G935FXXU1DQL8
Only updating PA, after which the lock was removed but I only had a samsung logo which I was unable to progress from. I waited until the battery run out (could not shut the phone down) and then booted into recovery mode and did a factory reset. The phone came back to life, but was weird.
Apart from loosing all of my app data (logins etc) the keyboard was wonky. It lagged and the predictive text would work in passwords, essentially eating every letter as I pressed it. The spellcheck wasn't working even tho it was selected. The keyboard would also lag, often taking 5 or more seconds to respond at first after which it worked fine but this only occurred during logging into an account, and the shift key never worked properly, and required holding down to capitalize as the one tap to do the first letter didn't work.
I didn't think too much of it and went back to trying to get myself sorted with xposed. The moment I flashed TRWP again, suddenly my internal storage disappeared. The phone no longer saw it and no matter what I did it was totally dead. I had to change the file system and remount in order for it to come back.
When I came back I flashed PA, SCS and CP and since then my phone has lost the ability to recognize a telephone carrier. Mobile networks is plainly missing from the options, and I do not get any bars, just a circle with a line through it. I have since then tried other firmware from sammobile such as G935FXXS1DRA5
And used samfirm to download the newerst one directly from Samsung all of which result in the same problem - No telephone carrier options, phone cannot make calls and I can't do anything about it.
Can anyone help in bringing them back? What did I do wrong? Thanks in advance.
