I recently "upgraded" to 5.0.1 from 4.4.4 google play edition (nb1) and i quickly regretted it! I used Muniz's method to upgrade and root but I forgot completely how much touchwiz SUCKS! it's so frustrating having so many limitations to what i can do to my s4.
I did plan on getting the S6 seeing as I'm up for my 2 year upgrade with ATT but after playing with touchwiz again I realized how much I loved my pure android experience and Xposed options. Does anyone have any recommendations on downgrading and go back to a pure android lollipop rom?
btw i'll probably just wait on the moto x 2015

So we are stuck? No downgrading options? No lollipop custom rom options?
When I upgraded it was to get ready for my S6 that I was gong to get but then I realized I don't want anything to do with touchwiz...

Unless there is a way to do it with ODIN. Can you link the correct method to downgrade? I have the i337 ATT model.
Ahh I see. I saw that you had the GPE 4.4 and incorrectly assumed that you had a custom recovery already.
So people with locked bootloaders can't even flash stock ROMs?

I've been reading that upgrading to oc3 might possibly lock the bootloader. i havent tried to ODIN 4.4 tho yet cuz i haven't gotten clear info yet. I could ODIN and downgrade but I'm not sure if it will brick my phone
Ok, so after trying to use this guide to downgrade my i337 to stock, I was met with the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue screen". I am now using this guide to fix this issue. Currently, Samsung Kies is working and downloading the stock firmware for me. Lets hope this works. I will keep you guys updated.
Update: It seems like its not working as well. Since I couldn't do it through ODIN, I guess Kies wouldn't work as well. Do I have a soft brick here? Damn.

No, I had followed a guide to update my stock 4.4.4 to 5.0.1 using stock recovery. The file was 947mb .zip and contained a .cfg file inside. I had to extract the .zip and rename the .cfg to .zip. Then I side-loaded the file and updated to 5.0.1. I was on stock 5.0.1 before I tried to downgrade.
ODIN is downgrading right now to 4.4.4!!!

It sounds to me like the aboot qfuse counter changed which would mean that there's no going back to any previous FW. It was only a matter of time before they did it since the VZW S4 lollipop update did that.
We won't know until we get ahold of either the update.zip or the odin tar. I have 2 VZW S5's and both refuse to tell me there's an update available even when I Odin back to a stock FW.
Nice. That's what I hated about Apple. You own the phone, yet, still can't do what you want with it. Well, thanks for checking it out.

It's most likely more of a Verizon thing than a Samsung thing. Although with the 5.1.1 S5 update on T-Mobile, the kernel prevents rooting and T-Mobile phones are on unlocked bootloaders which means they don't care if you root or install a custom rom so maybe it is becoming more of a Samsung thing now.

Why would you need to downgrade from pb1?
I've spent a week trying to upgrade to lollipop. Finally got it done today and hated it. Tried to downgrade back to 4.4.2 but didn't work.
I'm currently sitting on the samsung colored screen that bootloops. I get beyond the white boot screen. I have twrp 2.8.5.0 installed and working fine. I tried to nandroid restore a 4.4.2 but thats what put me in this bootloop. Any suggestions?
Yes

NO, a nandroid backup does NOT contain bootloader or modem. They must be flashed separately, see the thread below for download links, flash in odin

Yes, you can downgrade to 4.4.2, you only have to downgrade your bootloader to use an 4.4.2 android version.
If you are already using an 5.0 Bootloader version, when you try to flash an 4.4.2 android version you get into a LOOP - BOOTLOOP.
Even i didn't know about that thread. Thank you for posting it.

ok that makes sense. my g900az shipped with 4.4.2 a long time ago. i just now started to upgrade it, but didnt realize xposed only worked on 5.1 not 5.0, so it took me awhile to find a 5.1 rom that was good enough. i like stock odex'd roms with xposed. thats hard to find, and custom roms are just too custom for me.

I had lolipop 5.0.1 SM-G900F yesterday and I can tell you that I succeed on downgrade. I now have 4.4.2 but there is one problem, Towelroot don't work anymore so if you want to downgrade your software you can do it by downloading it from sammobile. If you want root it without knox you probably don't find any solution, if you want to mind hit knox you can use chain-fire. I could not find anything that will root it without hiting knox.

Joe is your phone rooted? I have the same exact same phone and have successfully rolled it back. If not rooted, here are some links to help you out and then you can flash whatever rom you like. If you are on OG6 use this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...t/root-kernel-root-method-fog6-5-1-1-t3178077 or if you are on OF6 use this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...t/root-kernel-root-method-fof6-5-1-1-t3158005 After getting root, flash a custom recovery like Philz Touch or TWRP and flash whatever rom you're looking for. Here is also a link to the T-Mobile section of this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/development Everything you need is there.

I am sure you are not talking about bootloader unlock (exploit).
I am using lollipop now. I unlocked my sim when I was using jelly bean. Sim unlock is based on the phone IMEI. As long as your EFS partition is intact, you should not be worrying about that.
So if I do Odin/FlashFire to Lollipop, my phone will remain SIM unlocked?

Which bootloader are you on? If you're on MDL or MDB , do not upgrade to lollipop unless you flash the stock based golden eye or gold finger roms or any other AOSP lollipop rom. If you are on any other bootloader aside from MDL or MDB, go ahead and upgrade officially.
Your phone should remain sim unlocked if you use a custom rom to upgrade like the ones meantioned above.

Are you on safestrap? If you are, safestrap works well only in kit-kat. It is a pain to use safestrap in llolipop. I use fashfire instead.
Since you are on custom rom all you have to do is install flashfire and flash the rooted lollipop rom. The instructions can be found at here.
The instruction are written for the latest lollipop rooted rom (OK2). I stay with OC4. If you want to upgrade to OC4 do let me know. I will give you the link for the OC4.
All the necessary files and instructions can be found at here.
You might also want to download the NB1 firmware cooked by Muniz_ri. If you soft-brick your phone in the process or in the near future, that is where have to start with.
If you have questions please quote this in the reply so that I know you have a question.

They did not make safestrap for the lollipop. Safestrap only works on NC1 kernel. So if you were on lollipop and safestrap installed, everytime you reboot you need to tap the proceed several time finish the boot. Also if you want to use the safestrap to flash something or backup, you need to run NC1 flasher to reinstall the NC1 kernel first. Once you finish your deed, you need to flash the lollipop kernel back. That was why I said using safestrap in lollipop is a pain. You can read about that in this forum.
Download and keep this NB1 firmware. If you softbrick your phone this is the only thing that can save you.
