That is crazy. You're braver than me. I am so damage prone with my phones I put my new S7A in an Otterbox Defender straight away. Overkill, I'm sure but I can probably drop it off a building or run it over and be fine.

Lol ya, I mean I was pretty confident it would still work since we did pool tests on the s5 active back in the day and that held up well, only thing I worried for was all the tossing n turning in the washer might damage the phone physically but it looked fine.

...but will it survive the dryer?

haha, that I'm pretty sure it wont. The regular s7 didn't fare well on the bbq test even though that was a bit more extreme, but I'm sure the heat would just render it useless or cause the phone to warp a bit or something like that

Off topic. I would like to know if someone with s7 active could extract Activity Zone Apk for me.
Thanks

So my phone has this problem of only intermittently vibrating when I get a text/call. So I got an RMA and sent it in. First off, the lost it, and took several days and several phone calls to find somebody who was able to locate my phone. They then told me that it was not under warranty because it was physical damage. They said the main board was bent. Somehow I was apparently able to bend the phone enough to bend the main board but not crack the screen or back or anything else. So they said they could sell me a phone for $179 (no way). Sounds like crap to me........ I'll be buying Samsung next time.

Except Samsung has always been on top of updates. The only time Samsung hasn't had a timely update was due to networks, namely AT&T, not approving of the update for a long time.
I agree! Samsung makes good phones, but the touchwiz icons make me feel like I should use velcro shoes, safety scissors, finger paints, ect.

[Q] Water Damaged S4... why me? [UPDATED]

Well I did it... Water damaged S4. I was on vaca on Hilton Head when I took my phone with me into the pool completely forgetting I had it in my pocket. Insurance was useless because I only added it after the occurrence and they can apparently see now if there is any active use on the phone in question so they said no. So I guess I have just a couple of questions:
#1 How salvageable is this device? I have read some other posts about taking the phone apart and using ethanol or isopropal to remove any chemical or salt deposits.
#2 Is this even worth trying...? Based off the pics is this even a worth while cause?
Thanks and plz belay the '[email protected] comments. I have been through it all since this past Friday.
UPDATE:
Well after a few hours with the isopropal alc. and a toothbrush I got the phone all cleaned up and dried with a hairdryer. This was a few hours ago but I decided to give it a try and put the battery back in. Unfortunately I think it succumbed to the damage- all that would happen is the usual vibrate as you hold down the power button but the screen will not light up and no sound.
Someone noted that the corrosion looked especially bad... it was probably all the chlorine build up as I had the phone submerged for about 5-10 minutes. I posted some 'AFTER' pics of my cleaning job and you may notice that there may have been some shorting or heat damage done to some of the components.
Lastly, after a heartfelt conversation with my wife about what my options were we discussed the notion of adding a line to our plan as we'll have need of a 'home' phone eventually (jr. coming in July). So I think I may be able to trade in the iphone 4 I've been using and get another one.
That looks like some pretty bad corrosion. I've had luck in the past with removing all the parts attached to the logic board and giving it an "acid bath" in isopropal and scraping what you can away with like a spudger or a toothpick. I also believe that the display assembly and LCD are fused together, so while you hopefully don't have leakage into that area.
That being said, that is some of the oddest residue I have seen from water damage, maybe because of the salts/chemicals used in the pool? You might try and tear down as much as you can in terms of mid-frames and the like, and use a dampened cloth to remove all of that gunk.
Worst that can happen is that it doesn't work and you sell it on ebay as "slightly used"
Here is the ifixit guide, best of luck to you! http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+S4+Teardown/13947/1

Sorry to say, but I think it's too far gone for any of these suggestions. Those methods are meant for immediate action after taking a short dip in water (such as a toilet). From the looks of those pictures, I'd say you did some good long swimming in that pool before realizing your phone was along for the ride. So I think you may be SOL. Just a forewarning in case you try some of these methods with high expectations.

I actually did just that. Amex has it covered under their purchase protection so I'm covered financially, now its just the fact that I now have a AT&T Contract with nothing to show for it...
I did exactly the same thing on vacation with an iphone 4s. After that I paid and sent my new phone to a company that waterproofs the boards and components in the phone. Was only like 45 dollars plus shipping. Tested it out and the water just slides right off the boards in the phone xD amazing stuff

so ive had my s4 for a week or so now, and i decided to go swimming with it..... -.-

what normally fries when a phone gets wet? what can i replace to hopefully fix it?

know anywhere good to buy a main board?
ive got it in a bag of rice for the night.
i can test a different battery with it tomorrow.
i would assume it would be something on the main board or the battery.
lol sad thing is.... i had my girlfriends skyrocket (that i just upgraded from) in my pocket too. so i also have to repair that one.
i had a feeling i should have bought the active but it wasnt available the way im allowed to purchase yet.
im sure if i replace enough parts in it it will eventually work.
I put my Nexus S though the wash and it lived. The only thing that got wrecked was that battery, so try a new battery before you chuck it out.
should power on with no battery while plugged into charger

How do you know if you have a fake S7 Edge, or if it is real??? My new G935f...

i received my s7 edge today, and found some things that are worrying me. first, the writing on the bottom of the back of the phone is barely noticeable, and definitely not readable. second, it states on the box, that it was made in vietnam. i haven't read anywhere of samsung having phone fabricated in vietnam.
on the other hand, everything works perfectly. i downloaded aida64, and it has the sony sensor on the back camera. it is listed as a 935f, and not some other wierd letter. the everything i have tested has worked flawlessly. but i can't get over worrying that the other shoe will fall after it's too late to return.
so i need for those who have a g935f, to let me know if you can easily read the writing at the bottom of the back cover, and if you have one that was fabricated in vietnam, i'd like to know if you have had any problems with it at all. thanks!!!
You can tell if it's fake, Samsung's are made in Korea and Vietnam the small text on the back is hard for anyone to read

The screen is made of cheap glass material.
this is the one thing i can't tell. it's shiny and beautiful, but i'm not sure of the glass quality.
2
The screen is too far from the edge.
(Cloned phones have a wide gap between the edge of the screen and the edge of the phone).
no, no gaps.
3
The screen is not as bright and vibrant as the original device's.
the screen is very bright and beautiful.
4
Some of the sensors are not available.
can't find one of the sensors which isn't working.
5
The Home button is not located in the exact same spot as the one on the genuine item.
the home button seems correctly located
6
The Samsung logos are not smoothed out and can be felt; rubbing it will also remove the logo.
no, they are smooth and under the glass.
7
The device's proportions different than that of the genuine product.
seems like the same dimensions, as it fits properly into my cases.
8
Gaps between parts like the home, power, and volume buttons are obvious.
no gaps at any of these buttons.
9
When the battery cover is opened, some of the small components do not match with the original ones.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No | I need help
can't take the battery cover off the s7 edge.
10
The phone does not have a seal from the National Communications Agency or an equivalent agency in your country.
this is the other thing. i can NOT find this seal. the text on the back is not readable.
11
The battery specifications are not the same.
battery is 3600mAH

of course with samsung everything that seems like it would be that easy, never is. samsung america will NOT comment whatsoever on the g935f, because it is not an american device. they act like they are completely handicapped if you ask them about anything that is NOT carrier specific. It, of course, was the first thing i did. then i tried to call the uk customer support, but the time difference kept screwing that up. and on top of all that, i had to make a decision today, or get stuck. so that is why i was buggin.
however, tonight i drove across town to the bestbuy, and held a few of theirs in my hands while the guys were busy with other customers, and that made me feel a lot better, as several of those also had writing that was hard to see. only on the edge, not the reg s7, which was very clear. then i had the samsung rep look it over, check all the coding and he said it was legit. so i am done. i will keep it, and feel great about it. all day it has performed very well, and all sensors work perfectly. i've done motion sensors, bluetooth, cameras, wifi, etc... it all checked out. so thank you for anyone who commented to this thread. i appreciate the efforts. cheers!

So the writing on the back is blacked out because of the change from the fCC that doesn't mandate the imei and other info be displayed. So since the phone is blacked out they made it dark so you can see if you look closely but not if you are far away. Phone is made in multiple locations, and honestly only way to be 100% sure is to check hardware which you did. That can't be spoofed easily and takes work. Also, if it's real you should be able to register it on Samsung's website. If you can register it. Chances are your are good.

yeah, i installed that app this afternoon, and it says it's all good. except my scs says nordic se. that's the only thing that stuck out. but after seeing all of that, comparing it to other s7 edge devices in a bestbuy tonight, and speaking with their guy, i am satisfied it is all good. runs really fast, and the battery life has lasted all day with very little drain.

Keeping the note 7 safety strategies...

Well, because the guy at the T-Mobile store screwed up and rang my original Note 7 as EIP "paid off" while trying to exchange it for a "safe" one, the Note 7 I eventually got in the mail was FREE to me. So I'm keeping it. My only concern is, what's the safest operation method? I've been told to disable Quick Charge, and put it in front of a fan or cooling source while charging. Anyone else keeping the phone? I welcome any suggestions on how to minimize any risk of it catching fire.
Why not just leave it in water when you're not using it?

Interesting you mention that, they tried twice and I was able to reverse it twice it seems settled now. But I'm curious about any best way of operating this phone without fear of it exploding. Do you have any suggestions?

I'm operating mine the way I always did. No quick charge and nothing that will make it work hard.
This is how I'm leaving mine at night, so if it does catch fire it will burn the tape and fall in the water.

Man.... I get where you're coming from with the 'it's free and it's great so I want to keep it' thing but if anything were to ever happen not just to you but your property, someone else or their property, you would be fully liable since the gov has stepped in and said return these flamin' phablets.
That's another reason that I will comply.
Every party is doing what they can to limit their liability right now. You don't want to be the one left holding the flaming bag of $hit when something goes wrong.
JMHO and best advice.

Because there is not a single smartphone in the world that is "Water Proof" . But there are phones that are water resistant. People just assume that what they see is fact. Yes it can withstand water but not over a certain depth and only for 30 minutes at a time and even then your still damaging the phone.

You just quoted the threshold for the ingress rating that doesn't mean it can't surpass it.
I doubt at exactly 30 minutes it will cease to work.

I believe the phone is waterproofed pretty good everywhere except for couple spots, like microphone, where protective membrane is rather flimsy and could fail after a while. Also pure water won't do anything to the phone, even if it got inside, it's the impurities inside it, that do damage, like short circuit, erosion etc.

The amount of lithium in a cell phone lithium ion battery is so minute that pouring water on it is no issue.

What would you expect T-Mobile to do? They didn't take any of your money.
Wait until it officially becomes a recall. Samsung will have to deal with it then.
