S5 doesnt boot - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys i bought an s5 sm-g900f from a local site here in italy and it wont boot on.
It doesnt turn on in recovery mode but only in download mode
Pls help me :good:

First, take out the battery, look around the panels and write down the model and the serial number of your device. Should look something like this:
Model - SM-G900F
S/N - RF2G40TB8SM
Put the battery back in and boot to Download mode by holding the Power, Home and Vol DOWN keys, and when it boots press the Vol UP. Connect the phone to your computer.
Then download the official Samsung Kies 3, if you haven't, and open it up. Go to Tools menu, and click on Firmware Upgrade and Initialization. In the next window enter your Model, then your S/N and after a couple more buttons, Kies will begin downloading the official stock rom for your device.
It's kinda big, like 2 gigs or more, so have that in mind if you're on a metered connection.
After it's downloaded, Kies will then transfer the rom on your phone, install it and reboot. And that's it.

Go in download mode. Run Odin and flash a stock ROM

Double check it says G900F at the top of the screen in download mode
If yes, flash this PIT file along with a stock ROM

Flash both at the same time with ODIN 3.11.1

You need to get a new battery. You should never flash with battery less than 80 percent. It could run your phone.

[Q] Galaxy i9000 Stuck on downloading screen

Hi there all. My Galaxy S i9000 is frozen on the downloading screen. It was connected to Odin previously to install CWM recovery but it just stayed on this DL mode. I try to connect to Odin to solve the problem but nothing happens when I connect to computer. Not picked up by Odin, and computer doesn't recognize the device. I have previously installed the driver but the computer doesn't recognize it tells me. I have tried unplugging and reconnecting to no avail. Any help, tips or tricks would be extremely appreciated.

What happens when you pull the battery then restart, it can't be booting into download mode??

Hi have you tried resetting both pc and phone, then trying the procedure again. .
If not maybe a usb controller/hub is at fault.

When I pull the battery and restart it, it is at the soft brick screen, the little picture in centre screen of a mobile and a pc. I can only get it to the downloading screen from there, nothing else.
The pc can recognize other things so the USB seems ok.

try the various solutions to resolve it, from My Android solutions, link below
If you are on Windows, plug phone into PC while in download mode. Go into 'Devices and Printers' , right click on the device, select properties and then the hardware tab, then choose properties again. Go to the driver tab and update driver. After driver has successfully updated, unplug usb and pull your phones battery. Put battery back in and boot back into download mode, then try using Odin again. Hope this works (has for me in the past).
Ok thanks for all the replies. I just finished work. Now I uninstalled driver & plugged it in again while in DL mode. Windows installed the driver. But it came up as "Gadget Serial" It doesn't seem to recognize it as a mobile? When I go into the properties I'm unable to click "update driver".
Ok so Odin seems to recognize something there now as you can see in blue. Now what do I do?

There's nothing in some of them. I tried the Rescue Kit for i9000 using heimdall packed by ldq. No luck. I don't really know what I'm doing lol.
Now looping title screen
Ok so I managed to reboot but now it's doing the boot loop. Stays on Galaxy S screen for 3-4 seconds. Not long enough to play a sound or anything though.

Not getting what you are implying here, you mean Odin does not complete the process or phone does not stay in download mode for it to complete the flashing process or??

So I put phone into DL mode, hook it up to Odin, when Odin's flashing it says KERNEL in the first box at the top, then goes to the blue RESET in the same box, then the phone resets and starts looping again, so then that's all that happens.
I just flashed 512 PIT again, it went to PASS but same result....boot loop.

so you are only flashing a kernel and that does not solve your problem, next solution would be for you to flash a ROM with PIT, download the Ezbase Rescue kit and flash it with the 512 Pit File ( repartition will be ticked automatically when you use a PIT File)

you don't need to get complicated. just download an official firmware that is Odin compatible, and then install in odin (open is as PDA).
before that, shut down the phone (keep power pressed). restart in download mode (volume down, menu then power), with cable plugged out. you will go to the download screen. connect the cable, start odin... and there you are... (at least this is what I did with mine when I got stacked to the kies screen)

I don't know exactly what that would do.
You cannot flash another kernel, as there is none yet.
You need to be in download mode for kies to recognize (volume down, home, power). It should work to do Emergency firmware recovery in Tools.
Anyway, I am quite sure that running from Odin works. Have you tried to follow the steps I mentioned?

Repartition is supposedly going to wipe all data on your phone, but it's also a death button that makes you ODIN freeze and making your phone not boot up so proceed with extreme caution
It uses the .pit file to repartition the space the pit file holds how much to allocate to /system, /data. If you leave it blank and flash, it'll drop the files your flashing into the existing 'slots'. If you select the pit file and repartition, it'll reallocate.
Only select that if the instructions for your rom require you to do it.
Thanks it works. I put the usb lead at the back of my pc and installed the stock rom thanks for your help guys

[Q] Odin accidental zip flash =/

I was supposed to unpack the tarfile from the zip, but since my computer decided to not recognize the zip and using the rar icon I thought it was the tar itself and flashed it only to realise my mistake as Odin said the flash failed. As of right now, every time I start my device, it says "Firmware upgrade encountered and issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." and shows a picture that looks like *Phone**Triangle**Computer*.
Kies emergency recovery does not recognize the device.
Trying to start the phone in recovery mode takes me to the *Phone**Triangle**Computer*.
Download mode > Flashing a stock rom = fail (Yes, it's unpacked this time)
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Alright, so I got a lot further this time.
I figured out how to get into Download mode again, suddenly I need to press and hold the combo a little while longer than I did before, or it will go to *phone**triangle**computer*.

I then pressed start and VOILA!!! Thanks fellas!

Did you terminate Kies in windows task manager? Kies can cause Odin to fail!
Ups. No. I will try this right now

You should do firmware writes with a notebook or UPS, a power interruption while writing critical system files can cause all kinds of damage.
Unfortunately you didn't provide much detail for us to work with. Not even a screenshot or photograph of what you see on the screen of your phone now or the log from Odin or Kies. Even your thread title didn't convey any useful information.
Pull your phone battery. Then try to enter download mode by pressing and holding the volume down key, then the home key, then the power key. Then try to flash a full, stock firmware image and proper PIT file concurrently. If you run into any difficulties, give a detailed description of what you tried, the Odin log and a photo of the phone screen.
More than likely it's recoverable. Despite the lack of details in your post, your stumbling block is probably that you aren't using a PIT file to correct (likely) partition damage that occurred during your power interruption.

Flash stock ROM via Odin. This should fix it
If you need a tutorial.. just reply.
Thank you so much for replying!
Would love a tutorial.
Thanks!!!!
First you need to download needed things,
Odin: http://odindownload.com/download/Odin3_v3.12.3.zip
Samsung Drivers: http://developer.samsung.com/common/download/check.do?actId=698
YOU NEED TO DOWNLOAD OFFICIAL ROM, FOR YOUR PHONE, COUNTRY, IF YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO FIND IT, JUST TELL ME YOUR COUNTRY CODE, AND FOR WHAT I SEE, YOU'VE GOT SM-G935F.
DON'T CONTINUE, IF YOU DON'T HAVE A ROM FOR YOUR PHONE, AND ASK ME TO FIND IT, IT'S ALWAYS BETTER.
-> Install Samsung drivers.
Steps:
1. Get to download mode -> Hold Power + Home + Vol down button.
2. Connect your device to your computer
3. Extract your rom, you will see, files, like AP, BL, etc..
4. Open Odin, go to options, disable auto-reboot.
5. Select the files, you will see buttons, on right side of the app,
BL
AP
CP
CSC
7. Click on one of them, and select file from the extracted from the rom package correspoding to it's name
So BL with BL, AP with AP, repeat this step until you will have each file for each button.
!! For CSC, use Home CSC !!
It will take some time to load these files, so just relax and don't worry, you will be notified when it's done, with Added, log section. Especially AP takes long time.
8. Click start, and wait until the download is finished, because you have disabled auto-reboot before, it will stuck in download mode, and after u will see in log : Finished, all jobs done, something like this, you are able to reboot your phone, then you have to hold again the combination ( power + home + vol down ) to get out of it, to make sure you will run 100% clean, when the screen gets out, and it will boot again, switch the Vol down button to Vol up button, to get to recovery, erase data, cache, then do a reboot, first reboot will take a while.

For TWRP you will use the AP slot.. to change it's recovery.. after u swipe to allow modifications you need to flash dm verity.. to boot up.. and after the boot you need to disable OEM.. for what i know USB debugging isnt needed too much.. but OEM for sure.
And if you want to use ROM from your scard.. then just flash it via TWRP.. and I don't think that there is real way to skip first time Welcome menu.. this needs to be modified directly in the ROM. I think..

After the installation of the drivers.. connect without booting your phone to PC.. it will install some extra things.. so just wait.. until you will get Windows notification that they are properly installed... then boot to download mode.. connect it.. it should maybe install something too first.. so leave it installing it.. then allow download mode (continue) and wait until you will see your device in Odin, As added
IT WORKED!!! Can't thank you enough!!! The usb thing.
Getting a FAIL in odin.
I think it might be a bad USB cable because KEYS says - "bad cable" (or something like that), but ODIN will show connection.
Could it be?

It's not because of cable, to fix this, it's really risky,
There is a guide, but please don't do it now, first answer me on the question down
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2659635
and there are PIT files for S7 Edge, https://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30628
BUT NOW,
Can you show me please, which firmware have you downloaded?
Thank you.
I have downloaded this:

IT WORKED!!! Can't thank you enough!!! The usb thing.
Getting a FAIL in odin.
I think it might be a bad USB cable because KEYS says - "bad cable" (or something like that), but ODIN will show connection.
Could it be?
I can go buy a new cable.

Is your phone branded? Like from some operator..
Thanks. No. Not branded. From official store.
http://www.samsungmobile.co.il/
So we will use this ROM,
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7-edge/SM-G935F/ILO/download/G935FXXU1DQE7/170029/
The code is ILO,
This is the right PIT file, you can find it on the link up.
SM-G935F OJK multi CSC ( CEL ILO PCL PTR )
by default : ILO
HERO2LTE_EUR_OPEN_HIDDEN150M.pit
Please download the ROM from Sammobile, try it again. If it doesn't help, we will need to fix the PIT.
Thx again.
I believe this is the file I have downloaded (see link):
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862727613
G935FXXU1DQE7
EDIT:
only reason i download from androidfilehost website is because it's way faster
Okay.. so we need to fix the PIT.
