Hello, I have a major issue with my note 4 where the microphone sound is very very quiet when trying to voice call on skype, messenger, voice recording app thats built in the phone, absolutely anything that does voice only, but as soon as i do video, video call, snapchat video, video camera, etc its loud. I have looked online and many tell me to go into the secret menu but none of the codes work so I have drawn a blank.
If anyone has the solution to increase the microphone volume just as its default state without needing to be on video it would be very appreciated. Ive tried many of the secret menus just cant find anything that has the specific one I need. (Ive looked everywhere online yet to no avail)
Thank you

Hey guys,it's my third day with the SGS2 and I'm still very very fascinated by the device.Still trying to get used to working without Sense and trying to figure out things about overclocking the thing(What the heck is internal voltage anyway?I'm using Tegrak Overclock Ultimate btw).
Anyway,I noticed that my GS2 has a second tiny hole next to the 3.5mm jack on the right side.It looks like a mic, although any sound I've recorded with the thing is still mono.Any ideas as to what that might be?I can post pictures if requested.
Anyway, two questions for which I'm still scratching my head:
1)How do I link my Google contacts with facebook ones?On Sense it was as easy as clicking "Connect" and searching for the Facebook contact. Here it must be trickier.See,when I connect my Facebook account it synced all of my Facebook contacts, which are 900 give or take a few.I tried to connect one contact with the Facebook one,it connected, but still it shows the picture I have on my Google account, not the Facebook picture. So,do I have to do this stuff like that or is there another way?And can I set the picture to the one they use in facebook?
2)Does anyone use GoWeather widget?I like it very much as an alternative to the Sense clock(even on my DHD with Sense) and it has an awesome weather app. However,on the SGS2(maybe even on the Desire HD but I hadn't noticed it ever happening) the time sometimes stops counting. And those "sometimes" tend to be very often. It just gets stuck, like time stops(sadly it doesn't).So it might be 4:30,but when I look at GoWeather's time it shows 4:10.Very annoying.Does anyone have such an experience?I am using FancyWidget until further notice but I don't exactly like it.
Thanks guys. And please bear with me,I'm still getting used to it.I'm no (big) noob, but some things are over my head sometimes and free time nowadays is scarce here.
Yes that is a second microphone, for Noise cancellation during calls.
Supposedly you can turn it off by pressing the menu button during a phone call, though i have not tried this.
Also it gives you stereo audio during video recording used in conjunction with the mouth microphone.

Well yeah but what the hell,my videos all have monophonic sound, not stereo.Although with the Hacked camera found in the Dev section(don't remember the author's name, but kudos to him) the sound is great, but stereo would give us the wow factor.
As for the other two questions?Anything?
It appears to use both microphones during video recording, but it`s only in mono not stereo like you said

Yep,exactly. It's a shame actually 'cause the hardware is there but software's not taking advantage of it.
Anyway,I want to ask another question that has gone unanswered 2-3 times already. Why is there no current reading in current widget?Instead of electric current values the widget says "no data".Does anyone know why?

Any news?
OP, regarding your second question, i had the same problem with the go weather clock and i found a fix by unchecking the default clock option that said automatically provided by network settings. Check to see if that's your case and if it fixes your problem
Hello people!
I just got 2 days ago a brand new Samsung Galaxy S II I9100.
To my disgrace the bottom microphone isn't working at all in any circumstances.
I tried to increase volume levels as noted by some users in service menu, updated to KG3 (2.3.4), hard reset,... none of this changed a bit.
I checked that top microphone works recording a video, talking and then putting a finger over it and it stopped recording any sound at all.
Could this be a software issue? or my bottom mic is dead from factory?
Shall I try to open my phone and check for the mic not being visibly broken? There's a seal that will break if I open it and could not return to Samsung to ask for repair?
Please help, I'm very frustrated.
EDIT: Playing with the sound recorder app and literally shouting to the little hole with the top microphone hole bloked seams to record slightly. It may be alive, but the volume in all applications and calls isn't recording anything of use. I tried again to change all volume settings in service menu and nothing changed.
Sounds like a Hardware issue. I wouldn't open the phone up though, you will invalidate your warranty.
I think you are going to have to send it back for repair/exchange.
Send it back for an exchange

So, it is the top or the bottom microphone that is not working? Your post indicated at the start that the bottom one was not working and then in your edit you said the top one was not recording.
Are you able to make standard voice calls? If you are, then the microphone is working. The bottom microphone is meant for voice, the top microphone is for noise cancellation. So the top microphone does not record anything.
No, you got me a little wrong or I messed my explanation.
The top microphone is working because I managed to record sound making a video and then blocked it with a finger to check if it was it with which the phone was recording, and yes was the top which was working because no sound was recorded after blocking the top microphone.
I'm not able to do phonecalls as it's the bottom one not recording any sound.
I played with the sound recorder app and only when I really shout at the hole of the microphone get my voice recorded slightly.
I tried to bump up the values of volume in service menu that some users comment, but anything improved.
Any ideas of what other option do I have other than take it to Samsung's technical support?
I also will have to reset the custom rom flashing counter before, don't you think so?
Hi Dreamer, have what sounds the same issue. I have just gotten it back from repairs for an issue with battery consumption. Think it was a faulty battery. They reflashed it back to something original, and after I flashed it back to the latest lightning, 4.2 or something I've had the problem. I've tried flashing it back to a more original rom, and back to 2.3.3 ... other kernels as well. No luck. It used to work brilliantly though ...
One more thing ... Like I described in this question, I have the same thing, BUT when I initiate a call with the headset, sound quality through the headset is GREAT. But if I during the call disconnect, and reconnect my headset, sound pickup is CRAP even through the headset, that worked a second ago! Do you get that too?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1199252
Hi Larswa!
I also used the headset in the search for making a few calls, it seemed to work OK until I used with noise ambience, then it was almost inaudible by me, to low volume even at the top volume.
Now it's in an official repair store, I'll call them tomorrow to see if I can pick it up. I'll update with the status.
So, after changing the peripherals the problem was still there and was sent to a higher repair centre to check the motherboard.
Still waiting, now two more weeks minimum.
Omg im having the exact same problem did exactly everythig u did let me know asap what they tell you i dnt have a warranty so im praying i dnt have to send it to get fixed myself and end up payin my arm & leg

I don't know, but opening up your phone by yourself after 2 days is going to brake your 2-year guarantee from Samsung...
Just bring it back to Samsung or an official retailer, it may save you some money...
Oh crap, i didn't read the whole thread...it's already solved...

So the Nexus 10 should be a good device for making Google Hangouts calls or Google Talk. But every time I use it I get such a bad experience.
I want to use the speakers on the device but when I do either the other side cannot hear me or they get an echo, or sometimes I just cannot hear them. If I use head phones it is fine, but that is not the point. Does anyone else have the same problem?

I don`t think it a softwarebug, i think it's a hardwarebug. Try any software, where you choose front and rear mic, and you will see, that the front mic record really bad quality and extream weak. good luck...
I don't think it is. When you search using voice it is perfectly fine. Whenever there is any type of sound coming out of the device speaker it is somehow inputting that into the microphone and that this something which a software update can sort out.
Another work around is to attach a loud speaker through the 3.5mm jack. When you do that you do not get an echo being presented back to the user you are talking to.

I obtain a similar result as you. Not exactly the same. When I hear some body througt hangout-gtalk I hear him faltering and with very low sound. The work arround I did is:
It's behaviour is the same with gtalk video call.
With Skype works perfectly, so it isn't hardware issue. Please try it to corroborate. In didn't try with Tango, we should.
With headphones works perfect bidirectionally, but it demostrates nothig i think.
I think the problem is on echo cancelator applied on these apps.
What is your oppinion?
The geniuses at Google have the rear microphone as the default microphone for skype and hangouts...
We have an open ticket for it on the support pages, but they never fixed the issue in 4.2.2

But with skype works right for me, and you? Could you please attach link about your ticket to have a look.
I hope with new Key lime prime they do a apps comunication unification and fix it.
Tango is not working for me. Very choppy receiving audio and sending it back. Almost like a real bad speakerphone where the two callers are always "stepping on" each other.
This is my second N10 and I recall the first one working much better with Tango. I also added a case to this one when I got it, so maybe that's impacting it as well?
Hello everyone, I've checked the forums and I've not really seen many answers to this question as it's something that's been bugging me for a while now.
I don't know when it started, but I noticed recently after recording a video and playing back, the sound on one side is completely gone. Almost like Stereo mode has been disabled, I have determined that it is the microphone that is often used during Loudspeaker calls, I tested this by placing a call to a friend on a regular call, then a WhatsApp Call, and finally a Skype call - and each platform is having the same issue - my loudspeaker microphone is not picking up audio. Is there a fix for this? I took apart the device, cleaned thoroughly but I'm wondering if the microphone itself has become busted. If anyone has a similar issue, or has found a fix for this - could you please provide me with some information? I love my Note 3 and would love to start recording some videos again.
Thanks everyone!

First factory reset and check again. .if same it s material problem
I've Factory Reset about 10 times since this post, and attempted all kinds of different things. I can confirm that it is a definitely a hardware issue, could you recommend what to do so I can get this fixed? Again, my primary microphone works fine while making calls - it is only when I enable Loudspeaker that the other party is unable to hear me due to the "Top Microphone" on the device not working for some unknown reason. Again, I've attempted cleans, fixes etc - but the issue only occurs during loudspeaker calls and when recording video as the top microphone is used with the primary microphone for Stereo Recording.
I know the microphone still picks up some form of audio but at a very low level - as I have called a friend and enabled loudspeaker and continued on to blowing in the hole where the microphone is situated. They can hear the loud distortion created by the air, but not a voice or anything like that. I really have to shout (And I mean LOUD) if anything audio is to be picked up.
From the past 2-3 days i started using the 6P for voice calling and i noticed the other side could not hear me properly so today i confirmed it my self and it was true my sound is muffled at best and i have to take the bottom speaker very near to my mouth to make the other party hear. There is absolutely no sound if i held my phone normally. Please help me.
I'd advice you to check the other microphone on the back. Clean it. And while on call, do not block it, or the sound gets muffled.

Blow it, preferably with canned air. Test your microphones by recording a video where you talk and listen to it. Does it sound normal?

Recording audio from third party recording apps works perfectly. Audio during video recording is also perfect. Its only during calls the issue occurs.

Does it still occur if you make sure that you're not blocking the microphone right under the rear camera on the back? Because that's the most common reason for that.

Yup. I almost never block the mic on the rear.
I have it too, already from android M, it has to do with noise canceling. I've tried allot of things. but none of them really worked. If I put the phone on speaker, the issue is gone, the person on the other side can then hear me perfectly again. Google should fix this problem. I don't think there's much we can do about it..
IS there a fix for this I have 2 6p's with the same issue. I am happy to root one and have a test if there is a known solution.

I can't explain how the problem was fixed, but here is what i did.
I'm not rooted BTW.
download build.prop editor

Tap add on the upper right corner, then input
Property name
persist.audio.fluence.voicecall

What this does is disables the noise cancelling mic during a normal call which is the source of the issue. There is an issue in the coding or the actual hardware where the noise cancelling mic picks up on your voice as background sound and tries to lower the volume of those khz which is what it is supposed to do with everything except your voice.... When you put it on speaker mode or record video it automatically turns the noise cancelling mic off which is why it works perfectly in those modes and why this little trick that I have been doing for over 2 years now works. It is just a simple build.prop change and all you need is root access and a text editor. The application is nice to make it easy but not necessary. I hope this illuminates the issue and why this little work around actually works. Trying to clean the noise cancelling mic or other measures will get you about nowhere as it is firmly a problem with the operation of the noise cancelling mic in normal call mode. I remember when we were diagnosing the issue on some thread here on XDA and some people said to put your finger over the noise cancelling mic or that they used a piece of tape to cover it which gave the same result, so we decided to just do away with it on the software level. I guess if you don't have root you can cover it with a piece of tape permanently or your finger while you speak on the phone.
Hope that helps; decided to post for posterity.
Also, I tried the program linked and it did not change the actual build.prop file for me, but rather made a new one which was not in the right place and therefore did nothing for the actual running of the phone. All you need to do is go into root -> system -> build.prop and find "persist.audio.fluence.voicecall=true" and change it to false then save. You can leave the other ones alone. I used Solid Explorer and edited the file with SE Text Editor which I gather comes with LineageOS as I only downloaded Solid Explorer and not SE Text Editor.
