Hey guys,it's my third day with the SGS2 and I'm still very very fascinated by the device.Still trying to get used to working without Sense and trying to figure out things about overclocking the thing(What the heck is internal voltage anyway?I'm using Tegrak Overclock Ultimate btw).
Anyway,I noticed that my GS2 has a second tiny hole next to the 3.5mm jack on the right side.It looks like a mic, although any sound I've recorded with the thing is still mono.Any ideas as to what that might be?I can post pictures if requested.
Anyway, two questions for which I'm still scratching my head:
1)How do I link my Google contacts with facebook ones?On Sense it was as easy as clicking "Connect" and searching for the Facebook contact. Here it must be trickier.See,when I connect my Facebook account it synced all of my Facebook contacts, which are 900 give or take a few.I tried to connect one contact with the Facebook one,it connected, but still it shows the picture I have on my Google account, not the Facebook picture. So,do I have to do this stuff like that or is there another way?And can I set the picture to the one they use in facebook?
2)Does anyone use GoWeather widget?I like it very much as an alternative to the Sense clock(even on my DHD with Sense) and it has an awesome weather app. However,on the SGS2(maybe even on the Desire HD but I hadn't noticed it ever happening) the time sometimes stops counting. And those "sometimes" tend to be very often. It just gets stuck, like time stops(sadly it doesn't).So it might be 4:30,but when I look at GoWeather's time it shows 4:10.Very annoying.Does anyone have such an experience?I am using FancyWidget until further notice but I don't exactly like it.
Thanks guys. And please bear with me,I'm still getting used to it.I'm no (big) noob, but some things are over my head sometimes and free time nowadays is scarce here.
Yes that is a second microphone, for Noise cancellation during calls.
Supposedly you can turn it off by pressing the menu button during a phone call, though i have not tried this.
Also it gives you stereo audio during video recording used in conjunction with the mouth microphone.

Well yeah but what the hell,my videos all have monophonic sound, not stereo.Although with the Hacked camera found in the Dev section(don't remember the author's name, but kudos to him) the sound is great, but stereo would give us the wow factor.
As for the other two questions?Anything?
It appears to use both microphones during video recording, but it`s only in mono not stereo like you said

Yep,exactly. It's a shame actually 'cause the hardware is there but software's not taking advantage of it.
Anyway,I want to ask another question that has gone unanswered 2-3 times already. Why is there no current reading in current widget?Instead of electric current values the widget says "no data".Does anyone know why?

Any news?
OP, regarding your second question, i had the same problem with the go weather clock and i found a fix by unchecking the default clock option that said automatically provided by network settings. Check to see if that's your case and if it fixes your problem

Hi, wanted to briefly comment on my largely positive HD2 & skiing experience.
Video
Worked fine right down to about -15c (-25 with wind chill), noticed some jerks in recording but cant say if it was cold related, Here is the HD2 video I made.
Bear in mind that some videos had gamma/brightness adjustments.
Camera
Yea, not too bad after the HTC camera patch, the last image at the end of the video is a (curve adjusted) photo taken with HD2. I was impressed with the camera under some conditions (medium-good light levels and little movement), still not in the same league as an N95 especially in low light conditions.
Music application
Worked OK, but its still pretty lame, making the experience quite frustrating:
1. no volume control on the headphone piece
2. long pauses while (large) playlist loads, why is this not cached???
3. Cant use your own headphones with remote (like Nokia) so had to use crappy HTC ones
4. Scrolling large lists in the cold! (I believe there is a scroll bar in 1.6x)
5. loads more niggles
General
No problems most of the time but a couple of times in extreme cold (-15) I found the keyboard became really erratic and once it even completely stopped responding. I also noticed that coming in from the extreme cold quite a lot of fog behind the screen, this cleared up after the phone warmed up with no ill effects.
All in all I was happy, BUT I was pretty pissed off to find, after running for the plane, a scratch on the screen, keys or coins the culprit.. just shows how wrong the unscratchable claims are!
Sorry to hear about the scratch on your screen. You should have listened to your head and bought a screen protector. It's not too late.....
WB
And you really should have tested the SatSki application, then you could also have tested the GPS functionality.
Had this application already running on my previous phone, excellent application for skieers and on the big HD2 screen it is really handy.
I've downloaded Satski and will be trying it in Les Deux Alpes in a couple of weeks, will report how it goes.
I must admit I noticed the same thing about not being able to ajust the volume using the remote on the headset. That's a real pain.
Also intending to buy some new thin gloves for using the phone poss The North Face E-Tip or Blacks do their own version which I tried in store and they work ok (perfect for texting your mate at work while you're have a beer on the slope)
Headset
I use my HD2 when snowboarding with Jabra bt620s bluetooth headset. It works great and I can adjust the volume, skip songs and answer calls with buttoms on the headset. And its nice not to worry about wires.

To be fair I don't really have a problem with you guys being behind me...........because you can't keep up on your trays.
What I really need is a camera that can look out for groups of you sitting down just after the brow of a hill.

Hi guys and gals,
I have recently stopped using my Sony Walkman, which sounds great with my Sennheiser earphones so that I can use the HD2's in-built player with Audio Booster and SRS Wow 1.5.xx. The combination sounds just as good as my Sony walkman, and delivers good quality at all frequecies.
However, I have two grievances that needs to be resolved somehow.
1) The Audio Boosters turns off every 5 mins. The only two "fixes" that I have seen do not work; the cab provided by Touch-X or the advice from the Leo Tips and Hints thread to keep the Audio Booster running in the background. Neither of these actually work.
2) The music playback always stutters when something network related is happening in the background, whether it be an SMS coming through or changing from 3G to HDSA. It is very annoying, and didnt happen with my N95, so why with a 1GHz "beast"?
Do you think HTC are aware, and is it worth asking them about it?
Thanks.
Any body care to comment, or everybody more interested in the fake HD3 and the SMS bugs?

I dont hate HTC. My phone is working fine apart from the above. There may be other faults in features I dont use, but I am guessing that most of the bugs are inherent in the Sense interface. Looks like the first time they built Sense into WinMo wasnt the best idea.
hey i dont know if you know this by now but if you press the X button in the right upper corner instead of the done button when you adjusting the audio booster it´s saves it for all the songs. annoying bugg butt this is a soulotion that works. bad english but who cares i am from sweden and good luck
I would like to start working on a way to change the function of the push button received from the headphones. Mainly for when your driving, but this would also be helpful when you need to work with your hands, but still would like to use your phone!
I would love to make an app, but i have no exp in doing this, so basically this is my REQ for a developer to work with to create, develop, test help build my idea.
A customizable app that allows you to choose to open apps, perform actions, play music, skip, pause, play etc with different clicks of the button (Like the older/newish ipod shuffle controls)
If your interested or have any material or ideas for me to start looking into gpio settings please add to the post.
My ideal click config would be:
[Current]
1 click - Depending on Phone State : Open up Music Player/play/pause/answer call/end call
[Additional - Needs to be added]
2 clicks - Next Song
3 clicks - previous song
Click and Hold - Open Voice Control Program (in my case Vlingo) Should be configurable via GUI or config file
(I'm not sure how many commands we can actually store, but if there are more then we can surely add more and more features)

How much money do you have?
I already have the answer. Get a set of the Motorola S9-HD Bluetooth headset. You can do all things you require with them (over bluetooth of course) The sound quality is AWESOME
well, that's not the correct answer, ths idea for an app is really nice, I dont have experience in android development either but I'd like to have this app, and I would donate, Once I saw an application like this for WM and it was awesome( Former WM user)

Fingers crossed that this is on topic enough...
On my Captivate, the hardwired headset that came with it has a button in the wire. This button doesn't seem to do anything. What is it supposed to do?
Also, I have a bluetooth Jabra BT3030. None of the buttons function with the Captivate. They all worked fine on my Tilt (WM). Should all of the bluetooth buttons work with this phone? Also, when I turn on my bluetooth it pairs fine, but doesn't automatically connect. I've read about this happening with other people. I'm wondering if it's just this old bluetooth device isn't compatible with the Captivate. Any opinions?
Thanks,
Rich

The button you speak of will pause and un-pause music from my experience. I'm not sure if it does anything else.
It also answers incoming calls and in at least one music player (can't remember which one, maybe DoubleTwist?) a double click skips to the next track.

You obviously haven't tried out the s9_HD pair. They are really good quality. I have a $50 pair of Sony buds, and the S9s are just as good.
BTW you can get them for $60 on the net. So where did you say you can get better quality buds for far cheaper?
Also I mostly use my S9s' at the gym, because my wired pair of buds kept getting caught on the weight bars. When I run on the treadmill I always set my phone on the top tray and kept yanking on the cord. I actually knocked my phone on the floor a couple of times.

its supposed to pause and play your music or atleast thats what it does on mine
Yeah, my buttons doesn't do anything with any music player I've tried. I don't use the stock captivate player, I prefer pretty much any other music player over it. Right now, I'm using the one I pulled for the vanilla rom awhile back.
In Slacker radio the button pauses and unpauses. I think this is going to be more of an issue of the software developer using the functionality of the button, not making the button talk with the software.

Through more investigation it seems that the software determines what happens on button press, so really this is going to be a look through to see where it allows us to select which program launches on button press.

I wish I looked into it before my 30 days were up. The button on my headset does nothing (never has). I dont know if it's just the wire or it's the phone (hardware or software).
Yeah I would definitely DONATE too if you could work this out, it would make my life much easier
I've checked high and low on the forums for something similar or a solution to my problem, but alas I can't find anything so I'm starting a thread.
As the title state's my phone rings people whenever an AUX jack is in, listening to music, or hooked up to a stereo. I've tried restoring to factory setting's also I've tried different headphones and stereo's but still no joy.
T-Mobile
HTC HD Desire HD.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Many thanks.
Flynn.
Hmm, maybe I've got a similar probelm, I use normal 3.5mm in-ear headphones with my Desire HD and they are able to make strange things, if I gently move the jack, sometimes my phones starts a call to the latest called person, sometimes it skips to the next song, sometimes the music is paused.
I think that has something to to with the default headset funcionality, but it would be great if there was a way to lock any function other than playing music if no multi-functional headset is plugged in.
You're going to think I'm nuts but I've tried everything.
It seems to go berserk when you do a screwing motion with the 3.5mm jack. It doesn't make any difference what headphones I use whether they've got any calling buttons on them or not they just go absolutely mental.
I will admit to doing the calling bug that increases the music volume when you hang up straight after making the call.
But I still can't get around it and it's VERY frustrating, especially in the car.
The same problem
Hey, i have the same problem. This morning i was listening to music on my way to school. And all of the sudden it went berserk, started calling, skipping. What to do?
That happens if the AUX wire passes a current (many times stray) back to the phone. The phone just reacts in the way it would if a button was pressed on one of those headphones having an in-line mic/button.
A lot of times this stray current comes because of static build-up. I'm sure you guys know how to get rid of that. If it's not because of static, it might be because of faulty wiring on the audio enhancement (not usually the case), or if the audio enhancement and the phone function at hugely different potential differences (also, usually not the case).
As far as mine is concerned, freeing it of static usually helps.
One way to quickly judge if it's static that's the problem is if the call/skip/whatever usually takes place the minute you plug it in.

Search for an app on the market called "headset blocker"
NO luck
The above post helps,
However im testing the new ICS rom by Lord Clockan and twistedumbrella and there is no compatability for ICS. Wondering is anyone knows what part of the phone controls headset controls so i can mak an app to block it on 4.0?
Its a real pain as i cant play music at all,
random apps start playing music over other apps and music stops in others, skips tracks etc. SO frustrating.
Take out headphones
Blow into the jack hole
Plug back in headphones
Sorted till the next time crap builds up in there.

I have that problem for a while now. The blwoing inside technik did work for a while, but doesent anymore.
That headset blocker would be amazing if it would be working on ICS. Im on the LordMod Beta to.
@geinome would be amazing if you could make an app to fix that. But honestly i have no idea were in the sistem that headset control is located. Hope you can find it.
Found a Fix. Hope it helps you guys to.
I found an other App, that did solfe the problem for me eaven on ICS. The App Headset Interceptor is meant to let you choos, which Music App should receve the signal coming from the remote on the headset. But if you dont choose any from the Apps to get the signal, none dose and so none is cousing problems
Would love to post you guys the link to the market, but cant couse i dont have anouth post yet. But im sure i can sind it yourself
I hope this is solving the problem with the unwanted calls to. Couse i never had that problem, i cant test that.
you dont need any apps
you just need a needle to clean up the pocket lint inside the 3.55 jack.
for me it's usually enough to unplug the jack and plug it in again and all works well for the next month or so.
So the Nexus 10 should be a good device for making Google Hangouts calls or Google Talk. But every time I use it I get such a bad experience.
I want to use the speakers on the device but when I do either the other side cannot hear me or they get an echo, or sometimes I just cannot hear them. If I use head phones it is fine, but that is not the point. Does anyone else have the same problem?

I don`t think it a softwarebug, i think it's a hardwarebug. Try any software, where you choose front and rear mic, and you will see, that the front mic record really bad quality and extream weak. good luck...
I don't think it is. When you search using voice it is perfectly fine. Whenever there is any type of sound coming out of the device speaker it is somehow inputting that into the microphone and that this something which a software update can sort out.
Another work around is to attach a loud speaker through the 3.5mm jack. When you do that you do not get an echo being presented back to the user you are talking to.

I obtain a similar result as you. Not exactly the same. When I hear some body througt hangout-gtalk I hear him faltering and with very low sound. The work arround I did is:
It's behaviour is the same with gtalk video call.
With Skype works perfectly, so it isn't hardware issue. Please try it to corroborate. In didn't try with Tango, we should.
With headphones works perfect bidirectionally, but it demostrates nothig i think.
I think the problem is on echo cancelator applied on these apps.
What is your oppinion?
The geniuses at Google have the rear microphone as the default microphone for skype and hangouts...
We have an open ticket for it on the support pages, but they never fixed the issue in 4.2.2

Tango is not working for me. Very choppy receiving audio and sending it back. Almost like a real bad speakerphone where the two callers are always "stepping on" each other.
This is my second N10 and I recall the first one working much better with Tango. I also added a case to this one when I got it, so maybe that's impacting it as well?
