Since mid December I have used a Dev1 phone on ATT (never setup on TMobile).
Things have worked pretty well, but after returning from a week long overseas trip I couldn't sync gmail, calendar, contacts.
I finally gave up and did both factory reset methods I found.
After setting up the ATT APN again, and entering my gmail info, it just seemed to sit and spin never finishing the initial sync. I tried this maybe 10 times and it never worked.
So, I hard reset again and tried using a brand new gmail account. After several attempts that just got stuck at the sync point during setup, I actually got a notification that I had email. This was the welcome to gmail message. I was able to read it, but the initial sync has still not completed. I sent another email to the new account but it has not shown up on the phone yet.
If I log into the phone with adb I can ping various websites. If I launch the browser via adb I can browse websites just fine.
I have tried using ATT and wireless ethernet to register. Both connect and say it is syncing, but it never seems to finish (after after 30 minutes).
Anybody have any ideas?
Who/where would I contact Google if they need to check into it?
Is there a log file someplace on the phone to check?
Thanks!
After trying everything I could think of I just installed an update.zip and blasted the phone back to a factory state.
That seems to have fixed everything. I guess something was corrupted, but I don't know what.
i've just been changing a few icons on my home scree. everything has been running great, had no problems whatsoever until i tried to access the market this afternoon.
the error im getting is that i need to set up or sign into my gmail account, so i go ahead and chose sign in, then it says:
"Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server.
This could be a temporary problem or your SIM card may not be provisioned
for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care."
ive searched all day on the net for a fix, tried unmounting the sd card, removing the sim, signing in via youtube, but nothing works.
what i have noticed is that, in the accounts settings, my gmail address is missing (samsung & regular email accounts are still there).
now, i must say that while i have been messing around with stock icons, i havent touched anything google related, or indeed deleted any apk's.
the last option open to me is a hard reset, which i want to avoid like the plague after weeks of customising my phone, even titanium restore didnt fix it
does anyone have anymore ideas what i could do?
thanks
i've had an idea, but will it work?
if i create the same account on my girlfriends galaxy ace, would i be able to transfer those account settings to my phone? if so, where are they located
i've just noticed as well, that i'm not getting any emails from my other accounts either
please....really need some help here guys
You could always re-flash your firmware to get the gmail icon and all the other settings back.I know you said you don't want to but if its disappeared then its a good way to get it back at least and with a nandroid and /or titaniun back-up its not that much work to put all your settings back.
ok, reflashing the firmware didnt work. the problem is definitely with servers as i cant add any more email accounts, all are getting server errors.
so....i ask this, what file holds this information? and if i can copy this from my girlfriends phone, will it work?
in fact, does anyone know ALL of the google apk's that should be installed, i have a feeling one is missing/corrupted
surely someone on here must know the answer to my last post??
I was having data issues with many different modems on my carrier but found today that KE7 modem solved my problem with solid download/upload speeds. worth a shot.
Have you frozen something or deleted something with titanium that you shouldn't have?
Try calling your operater to check if you have connection problems or not. After all the warning did say to call. The fact that it just happened suddenly is quite surprising and re-flashing should have put back everything that was missing.
Hi Taco1916,
Did you find a solution? I have exactly the same problem and I've tried all suggestions without success.

PlanetP,
I actually have a similar problem, and I see that you are also using China Unicom. I arrived in Kunming from Hong Kong last Sunday, and ever since Wednesday, Gmail suddenly stopped syncing, and Market does work. Market gives me the "no connection" thing. The weird thing is everything worked for two-three days after arriving in Kunming.
I've restored to previous nandroid backups, I've reflashed a fresh LeoMar Revolution rom (with everything wiped), and still cannot sign into my Google account..
My internet (via prepaid China Unicom data sim) and hotmail still works, XDA app, engadget all works..
I am going back to HK tomorrow, I will then find out if this is a China thing, or else...

Connection Error
I have been accessing gmail/market/maps on China mobile for past 3 months ... but for last couple of days I am getting Error connecting to server message... does it something to do with China mobile connection or something to with the setting... I have wiped the mobile couple of times and installed new rom also. Even then it is not solved? any soultion
Seems like this is a problem on both networks just recently, for me, it was just four days ago.
I have been in and out of china the past three months with my s2 without problems. I wonder why we are all met with this problem.
Now that you brought it up, google maps doesn't work either. it seems to detect my location, the arrow swivels around, but the map its not displayed, just the grid.
I really hope this is a temporary thing...

I've recently (2 days ago actually) upgraded my firmware to 2.3.5 (from 2.3.3) and I'm getting the same connection error when trying to add a google account. I'm pretty sure this is related to the china firewall as all the google services work correctly ever since the day I bought the phone.
In fact, I have tried all the alternatives that you can think of: using wifi to add google account does not work, using youtube to add account does not work, using market enabler to fake my sim card provider does not work, factory reset does not work, downgraded back to my original 2.3.3 firmware does not work. The only plausible option left now is to try and add a L2TP VPN account to my phone. If this happens to work (which I'm pretty sure should) then it means china has resumed blocking all the google mobile services.
I'll keep you guys updated in a few days once I find a good vpn service provider.
UPDATE: I have got a reliable vpn service going on and am now able to connect to google services and sign in to my account. Note that you'll need to take out your unicom sim card and connect to wifi+vpn to have this work. If you have a sim card inserted, you'll have to try the youtube trick with vpn connected.
So I have proved that this is, in fact, related tol china blocking access to all the google mobile ports.
So the china firewall has blocked google mobile services before?
I never knew this since I recently switched from a hk blackberry with a roaming plan in china the past three years when I traveled in and out of china.
Do you think it has to do with this weeks anniversary?

Got the same problem after have bought a GS2 from Hong Kong.
Try Wifi/China Mobile internet but nothing works was wondering if it didnt come from my rom...
Same problem, wish I'd seen this thread early, as I 've just wiped my phone, lost **** loads of data re-installing firmware, stock rom etc, re-setting, sim card in/out, cannot try the YouTube Trick as China won't allow You Tube and still can't add the google accoutn as it says it can't establish a reliable connection.
Jesus, what the feck is going on ?, anybody got any information on whether this is actually just China ?
This was working fine up until a few days ago, I have been in Guangzhou for past 2 years, and had Galaxy S2 working fine here for last 6 months, and now this ?
Wow, that sucks for you, I feel for ya, I have since rooted my phone so I can make bootable back ups.
I am heading back to hong kong tonight, so I will update you guys tonight when I get out of the firewall.
When did this problem start happening for you guys?

Hi Chief,
For me 3 days ago, it really is a complete pain in the A$%e...
At first I thought my Data Plan had been cancelled with China Telecom, but even after re-booting, hard reset without sim and just connecting to the WiFi in the company which is obviously Chinese, it still will not add the Google Account so no GMAIL or Market Place anymore...
Still trying to see what else is shafted, but also my phone looks naff now as I cannot re-download Go Launcher EX from Market Place as cannot get on it...
That is around the same time as mine, I think I lost connection last wednesday. I hope this isn't forever, especially for you guys that are in china long term.
Had this happened before? I wonder if this is across all phones with android platform.

Hi,
Since the update to Lollipop 5.0.1, my Note 4 cant sync any more with Microsoft exchange over wifi. Over 3g everything works fine. Over wifi the only problem is with exchange since the rest of the services and the Internet works fine. Before the update everything was ok. Already deleted and created the again wifi access points and also deleted and created again the Microsoft exchange account and this bug persists. . I'm also tried full erase of the phone, and still the big BUG in Lollipop continues to happen. Anyone else experience the same problem?

I hope the problem will be solved in future updates... :crying:

I had the same problem as well (my boss has a Samsung Note 5 and Lollipop did it to him as well).
The only solution I could find was to purchase 9 Folders as a replacement. It works like a charm and integrates into S-Planner (which means it works with my Gear 2 Watch) so all is well!
Solved!
Hi all,
I contacted Samsung customer service live chat to solve the problem and through the app "Smart Guardian" a technician has been connected to my phone to check the problem.
It was problem of the APN settings of my mobile operator (Movistar Spain). Erasing the "Proxy" field and saving the changes my email accounts works fine through wifi.
I hope it also work for you too!
I have an Amazon Prime XT1625 on H20 wireless (via AT&T networks) and cannot get the MMS to work. Interestingly, it DID work for a day with the phone in the beginning then stopped working.
Originally purchased back in october. Trying to wipe the AMZN bloat and root the phone I soft bricked it. I followed this thread and unbricked it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4/help/soft-bricked-prime-exclusive-xt1625-t3470693/ ). Currently loaded with XT1625-XT1644_ATHENE_RETUS_MPJ24.139 firmware.
The MMS did work the first day and that was it. For the last 3 months no MMS. I have copied both H20 wireless' official recommended APN settings again and again and also tried using the same APN settings from my previous phone (same sim & service), but none are working to either send or receive. H20 wireless customer service eventually gave up and blamed it on the phone saying because it is not an official AT&T phone it works on different MHz - LOL!
Dialed *#*#4636#*#* and messed around with switching "SET PREFERRED NETWORK TYPE" dropdown, cycling through the LTE options (did not perform reboot between each though). Also tried "turning on sms over IMS", but nothing worked.
What's odd is at one point it did work at one point. I do not know if something happened during loading the firmware after the softbrick or something else.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? Of course, I'm hoping it's a hidden switch or menu, but I'm open to reloading new firmware as well. In fact, I was looking to upgrade to Nougat but I see that there are only soaps available and no official release yet, so I wanted to post this first.
Thanks!
Have you tried a factory reset? Sounds like after the soft brick you messed up the MMS service.

Had this issue on both my XT1625 (non Amazon) and my wife's Moto G3. turned out the APN settings were not setup correctly so it was accessing the wrong MMS proxy. AT&T is also who our provider (Consumer Cellular) uses. Check with H2O wireless and find out what your APN settings should be and set them up accordingly.
Make the APN settings match the settings on this page.

You also know that MMS probably won't go if you have wifi enabled while sending. Many apps have a T-Mobile setting that disables wifi while sending MMS. For grins, disable wifi then try sending the MMS with just data enabled.

This worked: disabling wifi allowed the MMS to send.
Is this a moto g4-carrier specific problem, or universal problem? Is there a work-around to enable both MMS and wifi simultaneously?

It's not a G4 problem, it's more the app and I use Textra SMS for that reason but there are several that you can use. You can try that or Chomp which is by the same developer and I believe both are free to try. I actually purchased Textra because I just like the features more. In the MMS settings for both there is a setting called T-Mobile Fix. What it does is when an MMS is coming in or when you're sending one, it will turn off the wifi, send or receive the MMS and then turn wifi back on. I've seen that setting on other SMS apps also.

Interesting. I haven't seen any issues with WIFI being enabled blocking MMS messages from being sent. I just use the built in Messaging app that coms with opengapps. My wife had an issue on her G3 that prevented her from sending MMS to a group but worked fine for single recipients. It turned out to be APN settings.
But this is good to know should I see any issues in the future.
OK, have had quite the adventure getting this to work.
I did install Textra and selected the "T-Mobile workaround" setting within the app and MMS worked wonderfully. For about one week.
The all of a sudden it stopped working. Phone crashed and upon reboot MMS ceased to work in its entirety.
This got me thinking there must be a conflict somewhere. So I uninstalled Lucky Patcher and HEBF, and lo and behold MMS would send and RECEIVE only upon reboot. Not once the OS was completely booted, but in that sweet spot of 30 seconds after the main screen popped up and the rest of the OS booted. So I'm thinking there is a conflict somewhere. The only other apps I have that require root is Titanium Backup and SuperSU - I don't think these would cause conflict but I suppose I could uninstall and see.
Short of doing a full factory reset, is there some sort of conflict debugging software that I can use to trace the conflict?

I have TB installed and had SuperSU as well when I was on stock. Didn't see any issues with MMS once I got APN setup correctly. Short of doing a factory reset or disabling individual apps you probably don't have any options to find the conflict, if that is the issue.
