I dropped my fone from the second floor to the first - but luckily the corner of the phone stopped it from hurting the floor any more. It hit the corder where the stylus is and now the screen looks a liitle raised from the keyboard. When I turn it on, it only shows me a white screen.
2 Questions:
1 - can I fix it
2 - can I get another one from Cingular (and how)
I know that I do not have protection on my phone since Cingular will not protect phones that cost more than $300 (when if you think about it, those are the phones you need to protect) Does anyone know how I can get another phone from Cingular without paying?
Thanks

getting one without paying isnt going to happen, especially since it shows obvious signs of user inlficted damage. you need to start saving up for your next phone purchase.
So Should I go ahead and try to open it up and see if I can fix anything in it?
In my opinion, I think the LCD is broken, or it could be just the connection loose where the LCD connects to the mainboard. Goodluck!

there is a place called www.safeware.com where you can insurace your PDA for about 60 bucks a year... check it out
you may get another from ebay for $400
if the screen and motherboard are not broken, try to get Dopod 838 housing assembly, and replace the housing
So I opened up the entire phone and only found that the InfraRed lens broken off. I don't see where else it is broken. I had everything apart except the screen from the face of the phone. I took off the back by taking the screen off of the guide rails.
I made sure the connections between the screen and the board where secure. With the phone completely open, I tried to turn it on and still got a white screen.
When I plug in the power, the orange light doesn't light up.
I think I'm up a certain creek without a paddle.
Here is an update:
I called Cingular and all they could offer me was the number to the manufacturer HTC (877-878-6944)
HTC sends me to their repair center (888-354-2375)
So I am sending my busted phone to them and here is how the process works:
They get your CCard # to have on file. You send the phone in your own package, your cost. They will get it, diagnose the problem and give you an estimate of cost. If you approve the cost, then they will charge your card for the repair plus $27.80 for return shipping. If you do not approve the cost then they will charge you $27.80 and return you your busted phone.
I'll keep you posted to the cost estimate.
10/26/06 - HTC calls me up and says that my unit will cost $169 to repair and I go ahead and authorize it.
10/30/06 - HTC Ships out my unit and I should get it 11/2
Jesus, 169!
wait wait..u mean to tell me there's no warranty on this device? not even a year?
I don't know how HTC works, but I used to own a couple of HP PDA and PDA phones...and if there's any kind of problem, hardware, software, or even if I dropped the device and broke it (which I did a couple of times), I call the warranty department (of course I had to lie and told them I never damanged it), but then they send me a new PDA on UPS Next day right away with no charge to me..and I send them back my old PDA postage paid....
I don't get it..why can't u do the same with HTC? Like I was wondering earlier...is there no warranty? Coz if there isn't, I'm returning my 8125.
And the Saga ends.
Yesterday got my phone and tested everything to make sure it works. Turns out that they actually do fix what you send them instead of just swapping it out. My case was cracked near the corner and you can see where they repaired the crack.
So there you have it.
- There is a warranty for factory defects, not dropping your phone

There is a 1 year warranty through Cingular but it does not cover lose or physical damage, only defects in the product.
My touchscreen developed some issues after about 3 months of use. It was replaced under warranty.
If you drop and break it your warranty is voided. This is pretty standard, insurance covers loss & accidental damage.
I'm so pissed now because I dropped my three days old xperia and not only it left some scratches, screen does not turn on.
It worked when I turned it back on after the drop but now it doesn't anymore.
Screen does change from black to very dark blue when powered on but that's it.
I tried hard reset it by pressing the two silver buttons and power button(soft reset button) but it doesn't change anything. All I see is four purple lights blinking at each corner...
Is there anything else I can try?
btw, I'm using the X1i in USA...any good repair shop in austin tx?
Xperia Screec doesn't work ...
Hi,
I have exactly the same prolem as you. Dropped my Xperia and the creen doesn't work - aside froma dim, dark blue colour. I am so annoyed because I love this phone.
I was curious to know whether you had sorted the problem out and if so, exactly what you did.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I am in the UK
I had the same problem a week ago. I dropped the phone (it was in a case) and the screen stopped working. Gave it to SE and they returend it to me today. I never told them I dropped the phone, i just said the screen stopped working. They got it replaced for me free of cost in the Warranty. Though the drop has caused the rear housing to crack a little and i am having problem removing and inserting the stylus. Its a bit hard than before. Also the Memory card refuses to come out. They said i would need a new rear housing which would cost be around US$ 40 for a new one. That will also get rid of my cracks under the volume button and all.
dropped mine once, screen went funny like yours, reset it, then all was fine.
I dropped mine, it took a really bad bounce on concrete, phone seems to still work but now there is a really nasty dent in the foil silver trim along the outside on one of the corners. Anyone have a guess as to how much it would cost if I were to send it in for repair to Sony?
Any1 with any info about the TS problem? Im having the same trouble.
UPDATE
Ok. So I figured I'd flash back to genericROM and stock SPL. However w/o any screen its kinda hard to figure out if I did everything right..
So my question is: Can you tell somehow what SPL your device has? in RUU perhaps?
I have a serious problem. I noticed a bug in the Desire alphas where sometimes when the backlight went off during a call it would not come back on when the i took the phone away from my face. It always came back on eventually.
Ok now yesterday I flash alpha 8 and it worked fine. Now all of a sudden I reboot my phone bc the battery dies and the backlight won't come on at all! I know the phone is on because the haptic feedback and cap buttons are on and if I leave it on I can tell it's getting notifications.
How am I supposed to fix this?! I can't even see anything to get into recovery! My phone is unusable.
Find out every step to do a backup in recovery... see if that works

Load into bootloader
Press power button once and wait about 20 seconds
press volume down once then hit power button once
Wait about a minute and move the trackball down slowly 3 time and press it
Scroll it down once and press it four times

Unless your screen is broken you can always boot into recovery.
Take out the battery, then put it back in.
Hold the trackball down as you power on, this will boot you into fast boot.
Select bootloader, then select recovery. and bam your in recovery and can reflash.
I can get my phone into recovery. When I adb in i can push the phone into recovery, then when i hit adb devices it shows my phone and says recovery.
the problem is the backlight is not on even when i am in recovery. i would say the screen broke, but it seemed like a software problem, because it was just slow to come back on. It still always came back on. then I left it in my car chargine and it never came on again. The phone seems to be working fine though.
Kind of off topic, but did your call screen do this before flashing to Desire at all? Did you recently install a screen protector? I had problems with the PhantomSkinz screen protector making the proximity sensor less sensitive and behaved exactly how you're describing...as soon as I took it off it started working again. I'm now using a dcmugen88 screen protector and it works great.
interesting. i have one of those bodyglove or whatever protectors. best buy glued it onto my lcd. i suppose it could have started around that time. but would the proximity sensor still be deactivating the lcd even when its booting up or in recovery?
Oh, I must have overlooked that. The screen protector wouldn't cause any issues on startup or in recovery... guess it must be the rom then.
well, figured it out.
warning to n1 users: watch that lcd screen under the glass. its not nearly as sturdy as the glass cover.
the lcd/digitizer screen under my glass got cracked and stopped working. no drop, no warning, no funny colors. htc does not cover this in the warranty no matter how good the actual phones condition is.
i almost didnt get another n1, a phone thats inherantly weak (i found dozens of similar reports over the web) is not exactly a good case for a system with no insurance, no store to walk into, and very unhelpful support. they try to be very nice, but the rep i talked to couldnt even tell me whats covered and not. he just said let us charge 500 bucks to your card and we will ship a replacement, then decide if we think you have to buy it once we get your old phone. i demanded to talk to someone who did know. his manager denied hearing about lcd screen problems... after the original rep said he and htc knew this was a common problem. google didnt even return my email when i first contacted them saying my backlight was broken.
so again, be careful and get a good case.

Whatever rom you are running ask the developer of rom in his thread. That's where you will get the best information and help.
I have used this 10.1v for a month and suddenly for this pass 2 days, there is a thin blue line which appears suddenly and when I pressed the bezel, it disappears but it will come back some times later.
Is there anyway that I can fix this myself or should I turn it in to the service center ? I'm in Germany right now.
thanks...

Send it in right away. You could void your warranty if you try to fix it and accidentally damage it.
Where should I bring it ? Vodafone or Samsung ? because I heard 10.1v is a Vodafone exclusive, I just want to make sure also how long does it take for me to get a replacement ?
Hi,
I owe a Nexus 4 since Nov. 2013, purchased from Play Store.
I noticed that the buttons began to behave very weired recently.
The power and Volume Down buttons are tricky, and when pressed lightly as before they don't produce any response. I have to press them hard.
It started a week ago, and deteriorated very fast.
I use the phone with Ringke Fusion case from day 1, Which is water sealed and the buttons don't get any water. And didn't drop it.
It might be cheap material of the phone.
Now what is the solution ?
Are buttons covered under warranty ?
Should I use an alternative apps and Kernels (S2W, D2W)
or should I fix them at a local shop ?
Thanks very much.

Same thing happened on the power button of my N4. Correctly working -> tricky -> doesn't work
If you are ok with it (risks, warranty lost, ...), you can try to fix it by yourself, as i did.
Remove the back cover (2 T5 Torx screws), then remove the black obtrusive plastic frame covering the motherboard (fixed by >10 screws)
Now you should be able to access the different buttons.
When removing the non/hardly working buttons, you should be able to see the connectors on the button (the ones making contact with the motherboard) more or less crooked. Just straighten them in order to make them touch correctly the motherboard during pression.
Hope this helps.
I had the same problem and after removing back cover problem was solved.
Same problem here. My buttons are very hard to push sometimes, but man...I am experience in computer hardware and stuff but I am somehow not confident enough to srew off my phone... :/
