Spring effect inside - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi can everyone explain to me why i feel some spring effect inside my s7 edge when i tap the upper part and middle part of my fone. (I drop my fone one time)

I guess you answered you're own question, sounds like your device didn't completely survive that one drop

If you mean it like there's some sort of vibration when you do, it could be the vibrator motor resonating to external movements. I'm not sure if the motor is in that area, though. I don't believe a mere drop could have broken something important inside.

[Q] Droid survived dunk- Now no vibration/ haptic feedback

Hello. I hate to even make the post, but I do so love XDA-developers, and maybe somebody can help me out.
I managed to dunk the phone, lets not discuss how, in some pond water. I scoured the int3rwebz for solutions and seemed best advice was to dry with desiccant and a suggestion of an alcohol wash or use of electrical contact cleaner.
The phone was on when dropped, off when recovered. Water damage indicator on the phone was tripped, but the battery still shows red x's. Waited the requisite amount of days and the phone works! everything works.
Now the problem- I get a bit worried about the left over pond scum and I decide I'd be the mad scientist to use electrical contact cleaner on it. Sprayed the suspect areas and immediately blew out the phone with compressed air, let it sit a few nights in desiccant. Now I have some small bubbles in the screen( which was NOT sprayed...) . FML. figure they may be trapped cleaner and eventually evaporate. Not a huge deal, just a bit annoying.
THEN I realize my vibration now does not work. I attribute this to either the water or contact cleaner.
I am now one of a million posting "PHONE GOT WET HALP!!!" and I apologize for such a newbie post, but is there any hope for the vibration to begin working again magically?
Haptic feedback is a fairly big part of this phones operation, and I use silent mode at work with vibration.
If I am screwed on the vibration I have another newbie question:
Can you set different ring tones or sms tones to certain contacts? I have had phones that do this in the past but I cant seem to find anything on this one. I am using the newest version of fission at the moment- 2.6.1.
THANKS for any help/ useful information!
-Andrew
If you look in the battery compartment, I think in the lower left, you can actually see the vibration motor. I would check and make sure that nothing is blocking it. However, I would venture to say that being that it is the only (powered) moving part and being it being so exposed, I would imagine that it would be the most likely to get short circuited or otherwise damaged by the water.

I would concur that it was probably short circuited. Do you have insurance?
I agree. I absolutely did not purchase insurance. Live and learn. That's why I don't mind using it as is.
On to the second question- any way to select varying tones for different contacts in phone ringer/ sms tones? Would I just find something on the market for this? again using fission ROM.
Can you change the green missed call/ sms received LED?
I should have left the phone as it was after drying and not gotten paranoid about the "left over pond scum mineral residue" Oh well.. again live and learn.
Thanks again for the replies.
-Andrew
Open the contact that you wanna change, hit menu and select "options" and it's obvious from there. As for the LED, try an app called Missed Call.
Sorry I missed those to begin with.

First off, this isn't really a newb post. Not once have I seen "is there any to trick Verizon into sending me a new phone blah blah blah"
Second, I think you got really lucky here especially for the phone having been on, and ESPECIALLY that the battery didn't get wet or damaged. For what happened, the vibration being gone is pretty minor damage.

I agree. I guess mad at myself because it was ok before the contact cleaner (d'oh). Oh well, maybe it will reduce some corrosion.
And thank you -Gilgamesh- Don't know how I missed that. I'll try that app as well.
I have a hard time contact cleaner as being the culprit. If it damaged electronics, then it would kind of defy the whole point? Not trying to argue, just seems like it would be the least likely thing to do it. Was it powdery or foamy or something? Maybe it clogged up mechanism, maybe try poking at it with a quetip or something to dislodge it? Or maybe the air pressure pushed some moisture further inside where it could do some damage? Either way, guess I'll make sure to stay away from using it myself anyway. >.<
WELL.. the electrical cleaner in question does say to re-lubricate any movable parts as the cleaner will most likely dissolve oil/lubrication. My guess is that this vibration motor was lubricated if only in a small way.
I agree, unless the phone was submerged in something KNOWN caustic or corrosive, then I would just dry it, and be done with it. (I do also have the new screen bubbles/ dead pixels after the cleaner too.) I read the stories of people submerging in high grade alcohol after the water based dunk so I thought what the heck and the mentioned area in the lower left- looked like a board to me- was sprayed (of course with battery out). I tested the stuff on paper and it was dry within seconds just from air. I sprayed the phone out with compressed air afterward and another few nights in industrial strength desiccant.
So now I'm wondering if I spray some lube (WD-40 just a drop?) into this area in the lower left (Vibration motor?) of course with battery out and adequate dry time?
Thanks for staying with me. I installed a few LED applications and now at least know how to set different ring tones for different contacts.
Of course I'm ecstatic that the display even works after the submersion. I was already pricing 6-700 phones and even thought of...dare I say it... downgrading.
-Andrew
I really wouldn't. WD-40 is high pressure, thus when the tiniest little squirt would prob end up coating most of the inside of the phone. With the battery out I doubt it would cause any shorts, but it may still cause via corrosion because of the chemicals. IF I were to use any type of lube on it, I'd use something made for moving parts, such as the little thing of oil/lubricant you get with a hair trimmers. That way you can easily just put a small drop. That being said, I have no idea what effect using such a product might cause. May fix it, or could permanently damage the phone. Never really tried anything like that.
Personally I would just cut my loses now. There isn't very much damage, and you don't know how much more damaged could be caused by doing something like this. Just my opinion.
Yeah probably best to leave well enough alone at this point. Working screen for the most part, everything else working, just a dead vibration mechanism.
Lesson to be learned for anyone searching- if you have no real reason to beleive the device will be corroded by the substance the device was submerged in... JUST DRY IT WITH DESICCANT! Like I said mine was on and streaming music when dropped, completely off when recovered. I thought it was shorted out for sure, or at least would have tripped some kind of fuse only to be known by verizon/ motorolla techs to be cheaply replaced for refurbished units.
Anyway... just glad to still have a working device. Now to live this down as the GF got a $0.01 droid 2 at the same time as i did, but hers works perfectly fine (I smell a sabotage in the near future.....)
-Andrew
HAHA good luck with that.

HA! Decided that id add a drop of wd-40 to the vibration motor. After re-reading gilgamesh's post here I remembered seeing a turbine like piece of metal spinning with the compressed air. I was thinking the very lower left where the main board is exposed, but this is pretty much to the left of the middle of the battery. You can see a white motor with gears on the output shaft and the "spinning metal fan blade...thingy"
so, I pull my battery and.... blue silica desiccant ball! Dunno how I missed it. Removed it with a pencil, battery back in, fire it up, success!
So now I just have what im guessing is some left over cleaner under the plastic screen, but it could actually be lcd damage. Ill just have to see if it ever evaporates.
Still in the running for luckiest unlucky droid 2 user 2011!
thanks again guys,
-andrew
Oops- double posted. Anyway moral of the story is use desiccant, but block all passages (I used cotton on the audio jack and port at lower left that goes to mainboard, but forgot the vibration motor.) And don't get any cleaner anywhere near the screen as it seems to have messed up my lcd a bit.
Also- if your vibrate stops working make sure that metal fan spins freely when you blow on it/ use compressed air.
-andrew
Congratulations!! Glad to hear it's fixed now!!
Yeah I think that award is going to you lol. Glad to hear you fix it.
Damn you're one lucky mofo...for being unlucky that is...

Actually, I would say the opposite. One of the luckiest. Dropped it in a pond and came out working perfectly, in the end.

Is it just me or any of you also feels like the back cover around the bottom area of the camera feels like empty, I mean you can clearly push it down toward the phone ???

There is a haptic feed back when you press softkeys. you might be pushing them.

When you mean vibration. Do you mean in your pocket? If you get the vibration/boom feeling then that the vibrating motor. Hope this helps.

hey guys, its not the haptic feedback. its like it somehow 'vibrates' when I tapped it on the back of my phone.

it doesn't really vibrate but it kinda feels like its moving when tapped with your nails.
Yeah I have the same feeling, like its on "haptic Vibro" but thats not enabled, yet still feels like a slighter Vibrate when hitting some keys?
I think I know what he means...
Its not a feedback from the vibrator at all -- I sometimes tap on my Note when I'm listening to music, like I'm playing a drum solo with my fingers
There is a faint vibration when I do that.
I always assumed it was just one of the sensors vibrating in response to my enthusiastic taps. Who knows, the shock sensor, the vibrator itself?
Anyway, I don't think its anything wrong or broken.
I don't think there is a problem... it happened with my note 2, but always worked well and flawlessly
I get it occasionally and gave up with it.

Hi!
A lady friend of mine has this problem on a GSIII.
She broke her screen and since i had a GSIII with dead mainboard i moved her mainboard to the other phone. Main camera & all.
The phone now works perfectly but has accuired the "vibrate when tapping" issue.
Personally i´d say that the vibrating camera module is a solid bet. Production tolerances might be a little on the loose side in the new camera/screenframe combo and there is a short unsupported flex cable from main board to camera module.
If i understand this particular issue correctly you dropped your phone a while back. This just might have knocked the camera module a bit around so it now sits a smidgeon more loosely in the camera bay.
If it really bothers you, a solution could be to disassemble your phone and try thightening the tolerances in the camera mount by adding small pieces of e.g. sticky tape on sides or bottom. If nothing else you´d be able to confirm or discard the camera module as the "culprit".
Personally though i wouldn´t worry about it, as long as everything hums along nicely with this particular handset.

hello! thanks for your long reply, this happened before I dropped my device, so I reckon it isn't because of the drop! it works flawlessly, but do you think I should take it over to Samsung? or is it not an issue?

About the drop - oh yeah, you stated that earlier, my bad.
I´d leave it alone.
If the phone is still under warranty you could try taking it to a service center but then you´ll have to demonstrate there is an issue.
As everything works as it should that might be easier said than done.

S-PEN feels loose

I'vehad the Note 4 for a few days and the S-Pen feels quite loose to me. It can even move around a 1mm when in its silo.
I compared it to my friends Note 3 and it felt very tight. It also feels much more tight when inserted with no movement.
Anyone with the same problem?
I'm just concerned that it will get only worse.
My note 4 have no problem with spen
Try factory reset

I had that problem this morning. I took my case off and reinsert the pen and now it's nice and sturdy again. Maybe the pen wasn't inserted all the way?
I double checked and it's all the way in. If I'm the only one I guess I got a defective one ...

Try putting the pen in with the button facing down. Seems if it's facing up, it does jiggle a little.
It actually feels more firm with button facing down. But it doesn't solve the problem completely in my case
lol, same story here. just wanted to create a tread...
i have 3 note4's at the moment (due to display problems): 2 of them have loose spen, at one device it sits tight like on my note3!
a solution is to put one or two layers of transparent tape around the silver end of the s-pen, although i do not prefer this method
as it looks not good...
I decided to return my device on Thursday since it was actually bothering me, but funny thing is Samsung is still claiming it is not a defect and studying my case. They even went as far as show me another unit with the same problem.
I really hope upcoming batches will have it ironed out.
Does anyone know a solution in fixing the loose s-pen? The one with tape doesn't work out well, and is not really aesthetic...
Have you tried comparong inserting the S-Pen with the button facing up and facing down? I had the same problem on my 10.1 2014 and it was much tighter when the button was facing down in the case. I know it's not a solution, but it might help.
iR¡[email protected]!* from i9505 via Tapatalk 4
Do about 20 jumping jax with phone in hand. If the spen slips out of place its a defect.
You could then argue it has s heath and should allow you to run with device.
Mine is snug, my Note 3 was a bit loose but it never fell out or anything. I guess if it's inside the silo and doesn't slip out with normal usage it's not a defect.
i added now one layer (one wrung around) of clear tape (which i do not like aesthetically!!), and now the spen sits tight.
button up or down didn't change anything for me...
now, with the pen tight, the device feels a lot more "solid", so for me the loose pen is a defect...
maybe adding a point of glue would also do the trick, i will experiment a little with that...

Please don't use glue in your brand new device. Get it exchanged!
Can someone define 'loose s pen'? I put mine in pressed in all the way. If I wiggle my finger on it, it slight jiggles, but not to the point where it falls off. I have never noticed this on any note before. I wouldn't say its a defect, but more of an annoyance.

S Pen included with my Note 4
Hi i have 2 seperate questions about the S Pen. 1st. Has anyone removed the button on the pen to try to adjust the potentiometers for sending the pen thinner or thicker? I saw a pic of a note 4 S Pen with the button removed on this forum somewhere 2 days ago & it showed the pen having 2 round very small adjustable screw like things & they where explaining which way to turn the front one to adjust it, but I removed my button just to look at it & in my S Pen there is no adjustment mechanisms at all & there's only one round thing total so I'm just curious to see whether it's the same for all note 4 buyers or not?
2nd. I thought I heard something about Samsung developing & very soon making available for sale a newer updated S Pen for the note 4 & note edge to include Rotation & Tilt which was originally supposed to be included with both phones on release days of each. Does anyone know any info at all about this?

Did my daughter compromise my LG G6s waterproofing?

Hello everyone. This may sound extremely silly, but let me start at the begining. I bought a brand new LG G6 for myself, as for an upgrade over my old Huawei P8. I inserted my nano sim, turned the phone on, did the whole fresh start thing, and had to leave for a couple of seconds to get something from the other room. As i got back, i noticed that my daughter (4yo) got to the phone and started pinching the top microphone whole with the sim needle. I dont know if she did any damage. I checked the mics by recording, covering each one and whispering very delicately into each of them, and they both work fine. But, what about the waterproofing? Has she, possibly, done any damage? If i try to put the needle in there, It does go in almost all the way before stopping on something ( im not pushing it, just letting it go in freely ). on the bottom mic, it stops freely somewhere right before the middle. I appreciate all the help. Thanks if advance plus I apologize for my bad english. Cheers from Poland.
Don't worry mine's the same. Almost all the way in on the upper by own force if letting it go and only halfway on the bottom one.
THANKS MATE! Im so relieved. Can you also shake your by the ear to see if there is any sort of sound coming from the inside? I got this delicate vibration when rapidly shaking it. Thought its cause of my daughter tinkering with the thang lol!
