Reflash rom - Droid Turbo 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi i hope someone might point me in the right direction i recently purchased a brand new moto x force from ebay I know some may frown upon that but the price was too good and i took the gamble. Anyway up untill yesterday all was fine and the handset works as expected then yesterday i tried my sandisk 32gb sd card in the phone which was not detected either under storage or in es file explorer so i tried 3 other sd cards which all work in my old phone and in the laptop but not in the moto x. It would seem the card reader is broken a hardware issue or maybe it is software related so i have also tried a factory reset without any luck. I tried to contact motorola but when they were told where i purchased the phone they refused warranty without an authorised retailer VAT reciept. Now i am thinking i may try reflashing the official firmware to see if it is indeed software related and perhaps something is corrupted.
I have rooted many phones before but because this phone is quite expensive and quite new for me i am a bit nervous before going ahead with any of this plus i am not very familiar with RSD lite. I look forward to opinions and thanks for reading.

had you tried formatting the SD card with your notebook first to fat32.

Yes many times

did you try reboot with the SD card in? if I insert the SD on the fly, it not detected as well.
Sent from my XT1580 using Tapatalk

Yrs I have tried all the obvious things no dice.

I would just like some details on reflashing the official firmware with rsd lite and iff i can just download the relevant file and flash without unlocking bootloader etc because i dont really want to do that thanks.

Just check my recent posts and you will find the link to RETEU (works for mine GB Force) and log what and how to flash.
About sd card, I have 128GB and I had problems with recognition in my previous phone (RazrHD). Formatting in the phone fixed the problem.

Downgrading from OTA Cupcake to RC29 to get root seems impossible.

I've searched everywhere, it seems impossible. I tried the DREAIMG.nbh trick, and it failed.
I tried all suggestions of how the name should be, and I got "No Image File!" Is Cupcake
really just a good-tasting trap to prevent getting root? I don't want my G1 to be a TiVo
I'm wondering if anyone out there has had similar experiences and are willing to HELP
(not give useless pointers like what has happened to people many times before) without
getting mad at just another n00b, I'd be really thankful.
Hello there, have you tried reformatting your sd card. And there are different dream.nbh files floating around, you just may have a corrupted one. I would try reformatting first and then if that doesnt work I can send you the .nbh I use. And yes you can downgrade from the OTA, I just did it yesterday. Oh by the way when you downloaded your .nbh did you extract it from the .zip file it came in? Just have to ask
Yes, I extracted it from the zip file. I use Ubuntu, so I'm rather computer literate
I tried many different DREAIMG.nbh files, and none have worked
And I reformatted it as FAT32 twice, even, although I really doubt the second formatting
was necessary.
no man, I've done it twice because the update kept freezing my phone. I followed the tutorial from here, and I too was using ubuntu. I put everything on the sdcard after reformatting it, and then went ahead with the process of rooting the phone... it worked the third tim and apps to sd works for me too... just took awhile to get everything to work. wish you the best... good luck man
This is why I don't bother to unroot.
Hmm well then the only thing I can suggest is using the .nbh I have always used. I have never had a problem with it and just did it yesterday. Here it is for download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=05N71GON Let me know if that works
Try it with XP.

I've tried holding Camera+Power to start up my phone and I always get "No Image File!"
I've retried many times, this is getting ridiculous. Are you sure the nbh trick still works
from an OTA Cupcake (1.5) update? What if the nbh trick was blocked to prevent rooting?
D:
Try reinserting your memory card. That might be the problem. The bootloader may not be reading the memory card properly.

I've done that, and it still doesn't work :<
I've reinserted many times. And yes, in case you're wondering, I did disconnect it from my computer :S
Yes I guarantee that you can downgrade from Official OTA to RC29. Like I said I did it yesterday morning with no problem. I have used that same .nbh file since I started rooting RC30. Did you try using the one I posted?

[Q] Acer A500 Root Problems

So I am running and Acer A500
Android Version : 3.0.1
Kernel 2.6.36.3-00001-g9b3ce2b
Build: Acer_A500_1.104.02_Com_Gen1
I am trying to root my device using gingerbreak v1.2, my device is in portrait and locked, sd card inserted and mounted. However when I open gingerbreak it does the normal thing however it just sits on the screen with the rooting this may take a few minutes message sitting there , I've heard of it taking up to 10 minutes but on mine I let it sit for 30 min one time and nothing. I have removed and uninstalled the gingerbreak.apk from the phone and reinstalled it and still no solution. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong or possibly a work around for this. I have searched the forums here and haven't found a solution yet.

Try a diff SD card would be my only idea - that and do a clean power off/power on before attempting root. Would bet on the SD card being the issue - others have reported trying a diff card solved their problem. Enabled USB debugging and locked into portrait mode *before* starting gingerbreak?
ok trying it with the card out of my fascinate now, hopefully it works. Oh and kind of off topic here, but anybody know if the keyboard dock from the acer w500 will work with the a500 or if anyone has tried it?
EDIT----------------------------------------------------------------
Just tried it with a new card, freshly formatted and everything, still nothing, gingerbreak sat on the rooting screen for about 20 minutes. USB debuging is on and its locked in portrait before starting ginger break. Odd thing, I tried to pull up the device info with ADB but the devices list comes back empty
Are the cards the same brand and/or type?
Did you format it on your pc or the acer? Maybe try the opposite of whichever you used. You could also grab the HP sd Formatting Tool and try to format with that.
Possibly try a reset then try again.
Just throwing those out there. It is what I would try if I had that going on.
Good luck.
I used my fascinate to format the card, ill try again using my computer then the acer to format it.
Just a thought but are you sure you have the right version of gingerbreak installed? I had the same issue you have and it turned out that I had somehow gotten the wrong version installed. Once I figured it out and got the right version, it rooted no problem.

Hi The same happen to me I unistalled and installed Iconia Root. Apk Search it here on XDA
Put a file on your sd card and verify it's reading it one of the file managers.
If it's formatted correctly, the file will appear, if not it will appear empty.
Had a similar issue when updating, some how when I copied the file from my PC to the card it screwed up the formatting. Should be formatted in FAT32.
Did you try without locking the screen?
I have rooted twice and never used the lock function to root and it rooted in three minutes.
w500 dock works with A500 only if you have a cable to connect the USB from the keyboard wich is the dock port....
and even tho... will not be a dock

[Q] My Transformer refuses to install new firmware updates (OTA and SOP). What to do?

My Transformer simply refuses to take any firmware updates!
I am currently still stuck on version HTJ85B.WW_epad-8.6.6.9-20110804.
I have not received any update notifications since the 3.2 update mentioned above (and I have pushed the Check Update button a lot lately).
I have also tried to install a newer version via the SOP method (download latest available version, UpdateLauncher_WW_epaduser8659.zip, from Asus, unzip to root of sdcard in ASUS/Update folder etc). unfortunately that does not work either. I have not rooted, just been running the official version of the OS.
I have cold booted the device and finally done a full factory reset. Still no update notification, and manual install via SOP is still not working either.
Does anyone have any idé how I can fix this?
When you say the root of the SD card, you are talking about an external micro SD card correct?, as that is the only way it will work...

Yes, I have used an external micro SD card for this.
I have tried it both in the plates SD slot and also in the SD slot in the keyboard dock.

This is strange
As it turns out, the HTJ85B.WW_epad-8.6.6.9-20110804 version I have installed probably was installed when I had my Transformer sent in for service(my screen died). Not sure how they could make a mistake like that, but thats what it looks like.
This explains why I do not get any OTA notifications and why I do not succeed manually installing a new firmware version for the TF101, since it is expecting a version for the TF101G.
Note: I do in fact have the TF101 without 3G!
I went ahead with installing the latest version available on the ASUS site for the TF101G version via SOP, and that actually worked! (UpdateLauncher_WW_epaduserV8_6_6_10.zip)
Hopefully this will not cause any issues.
Is it possible for me to rollback/reinstall the correct version of the firmware for my TF101, instead og the TF101G version? I would prefer that since I will not get OTA notifications otherwise.
Anyone have any thoughts about how to fix that?
tHIS SHOULD HELP, IN CASE your tab has pre-b7 serial i.e b4,b5,b6(check at bottom base). it will format all partitions in nvflash mode, the process is automated.

Thanks mughalgxt!
That was exactly what I needed, worked perfectly ;-)
I also got the notification for 3.2.1 soon after I had flashed to the correct firmware for my TF101.
Awesome!

Nexus S (i9020) issue with internal SD card

Sometimes my Nexus S (i9020) hangs on Google logo when booting. This happens let's say 5 of 10 times. However, once it's booted it works just fine.
I have been investigating what's causing it and I have a guess that it's because of internal SD card. But I'm not sure what exactly is wrong with it as mentioned everything works just fine if phone boots.
Why I think it's SD problem? I have tried to install another ROM using CW and when I chose to install zip from SD card, CW just reported that "Can't mount SD card" (something like this). I did couple of restarts and then it worked fine. So it seems to be that phone sometimes cannot mount or recogzine(?) SD card and that's why it hangs on Google logo.
Do you have any ideas what could be wrong with SD? It shouldn't be a contact problem as it works without any problems when phone is finally booted.
I have also tried to format/partition card, but it didn't help.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the Nexus S has any SD card. So that would make sense that it cannot mount what doesn't exist.
It has 16GB NAND memory which is basically the same thing as SD card. NAND is a technology used for USB drives, memory cards etc.
And regarding mounting, it says "can't mount" only like 5 of 10 times, other 5 times it works (mounts) perfectly.

I have the same problem too. I've, yet, to find out the real cause. I want a warranty replacement unit but I know they are going to say that I'm OOW because it's unlocked.
You have to send it in.
I had this problem last week, after hours of searching the net, I found other people with this problem. Its nothing you can fix your self unless you can take apart your phone and replace the bad part. It really sucks to be without the nexus, but they got mine repaired, I am just waiting for them to send it back. Its says they had to "replace a bad component" on the repair ticket. Good luck.

Lock your boot loader before you send it in, very easy to do via ADB.

So, there's no flag somewhere saying that you unlocked your device? What did you tell them the problem was? Mine does it too often.
I'm seeing the same issue on my phone. It sounds like its SD card related but it has to be something with the connection since it only happens during boot time. Correct me if I'm wrong but android doesn't actually need SD card to boot so why would it have an issue. That's what makes me think its something else.

If you can factory restore the phone and then lock it they have no way of knowing you had it rooted. Just make sure your SD storage is cleaned too.
Just wondering if anyone else had this issue and what they did to fix it.
Hi!
If you plan to go for repair your device , then it's no need relocked your bootloader . During the warranty period they will repair it for free.....

Thanks but I don't think yours is a same issue. Mine is just stuck on the Google logo. However turning it off and plugging in the charger and there powering after the charge display usually fixes it.
Right now I'm up for more than 3 days without rebooting but I'm afraid that eventually it will go bad and not be able to boot properly.

[Q] Rooting without a MicroSD Adapter?

Hey there, XDA Members.
I have posted a few times, one because my device was bricked. I have reset my device, and was happy with it. Now, I want to reroot. It seems that I have lost my MicroSD card adapter, so there is no way for me to put the image onto it.
My point is, is there a way I can root my NST DIRECTLY from my PC?

No you cant. No way.
I would mostly agree with "No, no way".
For completeness, I would add that if you figured out the JTAG interface,
soldered on a connector and had a JTAG interface you could do anything you want.
The other way would be if you could get fastboot to work.
Just to be clear, these two methods are advanced and have never been investigated.
I suppose you could try using an android-based phone that is already rooted. A rooted android phone may have the ability to write an image directly to the sd card, and most android phones have micro-sd card slots.
Is there something wrong with going to Office Depot to temporarily buy the adapter, using it for this purpose, and returning it within 14 days of your purchase for a 100% refund?
