S7 Edge Charging Speed & Battery Drain Worse After Software Update! - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I updated from Note 5 to a S7 Edge. I noticed that Fast Charge was taking quite a bit longer than my Note 5 and seemed to drain quicker as well. Took into AT&T store and tech said do warranty exchange.
I actually received a warranty replacement. And looks like it might be a software update from AT&T!
I alway transfer and get my phone ready before I change sim card. First S7 Edge was charging fast and when put sim card in there was an pop up for software update. Seemed like it started after the software update completed. Took into as mentioned the AT&T store and said do a warranty replacement.
Received another one and same issue! Did the set up wirelessly and when all transferred and ready put sim cad in and happened again after update.
Went from Note 5 to S7 Edge-The S7 Edge takes 30% longer to charge.
Cables and wireless chargers works fine-did them with wired and pad. Plugged int o wall directly and used different samsung cables.
One reason to upgrade was longer battery life and faster charging-
Anyone else have these issues after update and more important any ideas how to fix???
Thanks

It's normal for s7e to take longer to charge than note5. Because s7 have larger battery than note5 (3600mah vs 3000mah) but the charging rate is the same(15watt for fast charge)

Wow-missed that one-makes sense-thanks.
Seems like 50 minutes for 78% level is a long time though!

U tripping bro, of course it should take longer with the larger battery

0-78% in 50 mins is actually good. 0-100% takes 1:30 (wired fast charge). Just under 2hrs for fast wireless charging 0-100%.
You may have too high expectations.

very slow charging from AC adaptor

hey guys, i was wondering if you've noticed that it takes the battery an extremely long time to charge to 100% through the AC adaptor.
i actually don't have a i9000, i'm on the US att variant captivate. i'm trying to figure out if this is a model specific problem (ie. just for us att users) or is it for all of the galaxy s phones.
while the galaxy s does have an extremely large battery, it shouldn't take 6 minutes to charge only 1% of battery. i've noticed that charging my captivate for 2 hours only nets a 40-50% charge, which is far lower than what i had previously experienced on my iphone and sony ericsson phones.
in my opinion, this is the biggest problem of my phone especially since i'm always on the go. i may have to switch phones since i always don't have the luxury of charging for 7-8 hours at a time.
thanks.
Yea the charge speed is very slow while the phone is turned ON.
- However when its turned off it charges really fast, like 30 min for full battery.

I guess I had the same issue, slow charging lateron when the battery fully drained it refused to charge and hence cannot start. I tried via usb cable when I panicked something went wrong so I hard reset my phone to see if it is some software issue. It happened once again phone cannot be switched on since it cannot recharge via adapter, so took it to the service center they tested it and told me that the problem is with the AC adapter.
Now the phone is with me, I am still monitoring it to see and confirm once again that charging via usb cable is not an issue.

Battery life down significantly after 3 months...

Just like the title says, I'm not sure it's the last few updates but I'm on nougat. I'm not using power saving but I wasn't before. I haven't really changed more or added any new apps that I can remember. Can anyone advise if they have encountered a similar issue and how you fixed it?

Same for me. Battery has started draining significantly faster than before. I was told to go into recovery, wipe cache, and reboot but that hasn't fixed it. Although, I don't want too, I may be pushed towards an s8 upgrade if I can't figure out why my battery sucks now.
my battery has sucked from day 1, absolutely the worst phone ever for this. Nougat helped it last a little longer, but it still takes a year and a half to charge compared to past few phones I've owned. Charging from a 2.1amp car charger doesn't move but 3% in 3 hours. My portable battery charger is the same way, can barley budge the phone charge. Yes fast charge is on.
Note 7 and iPhone 6S + both charged just fine with the same vehicles and with the same portable brick charger.
what I still don't get is why with the same hardware specs for the most part minus the screen, why the note 7 was such a drastically better phone for battery life. I thought it was nougat, but that definitely wasn't it. I'm down to 20% battery life left by noon anymore with the S7E. Note 7 wouldn't hit 20% until 10pm at night (day starts around 7-7:30am)

You might have a defective battery. The fact that it won't charge up and assuming your charger is still good, is telling.

charges perfectly fine when plugged into the power brick. Used the same cable in the car etc. to no change. Just something about those it hates.
I'm finally going to breakdown at some point and restore it and start over just to make sure. next step will be to see if sprint will replace it. I am thinking I am going to buy an S8E outright here very soon...

Brand new G4 Play Battery Issue

I bought a brand new unlocked Moto G4 Play from.Amazon Prime last week. Between purchasing it on Prime and the phone being old and OOP I got a great deal. However, I'm having a couple issues.
The first is with the battery. It charges insanely slow. Yesterday morning I had it plugged in for 3+ hours and it only charged 70%, from 15% to 85%. Also, for a battery rated at 2800mAH, it seems to drain fairly quick. Is it possible that the battery lost some of it's power while sitting around in the Amazon warehouse for so long?
My second issue is with file transfers onto my Mac. This is the third Android phone I've owned and it's the first to.cause my computer to freeze up when connecting it via USB. The charger that came with the phone is just one piece, I.e you can't disconnect the USB cable from the outlet plug. I had rummage around for a USB cable to use. It's an old cable, so I think that's what could be causing my.computer to.freeze. I'm gonna buy a new USB cable today and hopefully it fixes the problem.
Getting back to the battery, is there an app the can analyze my battery? So I can find out if it's defective or just not running at 100%? Any other suggestions on what I can do to remedy this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam
As far as apps go you can check the Play Store, and go by rating to see what is best for you. I use this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fsinib.batterymonitor
Charging with the stock charger will take hours. It's only rated at like 527 mamps (or whatever it's called), but it will never charge fast. I use a 2 amp quick charger, and from around 20% to 100% it takes just about an hour.
The drain may be because it's new, and getting settled in, so it should get better after a bit of time. Plus it does take a couple charge cycles to reach its full charging potential. I get an easy 5 1/2 to 6 hours screen on time on a full charge.
Now for using a computer I don't have experience with Macs, but I have heard issues with Android and Macs not playing well together. Maybe newer/better cable will help.
I've used 3C Battery Monitor Widget.
Like said above, the charger that comes with it is very low power, you can charge faster with a 1 - 2 amp charger and it won't hurt anything since there is built-in circuitry in the phone to control charging.
When I first got my G4 Play, I charged it up and let it sit unused for about 2 weeks only checking the battery remaining periodically and it still had ~15% left after 2 weeks on standby.
If your battery doesn't get better, you may want to exchange the phone with Amazon before your return is up.
G4 Play XT1607 Battery Drain
I'd like to revive this post real quick. @adam79 did you get your issue figured out?
I bought a phone from eBay. Ok, a bunch of them. I'm buying broken, fixing, and selling. I have hovered around G4 Plays as that is what I learned with and am slightly comfortable with. This new issue has got me stumped though.
Moto G4 Play - listing stated 'will not power on or charge'. No problem, I have extra parts. I tried to plug it in and sure 'nuff, no power. Tried another battery and she fired right up with Marshmallow already reset. I replaced the charging board and it started charging but it was hot. Hotter than normal I thought. Said that it would take 3 hours to fully charge from 71%. Whatever. She wanted the update to 7.1.1 just like the two xt1609s, the other two xt1607s, and my recent xt1601. I let it update then turned it off. Battery was dead the next morning. Plugged it up and no charging animation appeared. Another battery and it fired up. The heat is coming from the metal plate just above the battery contacts. Drains the battery no matter if it's on or off. What could it be?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

How long does your s8 take to charge full from around 5%?

I have the feeling my s8 doesnt really fast recharge even if it's enabled (i'm on 2nd charge now)... how long does it usually take you guys to charge it full when its very low, around 5%? And how long does it say it takes on the notification? Thanks!
About 1h50 or something with normal charge, not fast charge.

Mine definately took longer to charge than that the 2nd time (the first one i was asleep so i dont know) and with fast charge. Does it matter which side you plug in the cable or it's the same? I'm getting worried.
The side of the cable does not matter. I normally charge my phone when it's about 15% and with normal charge it takes around 1h40. Next time I charge it around 5% I will check but I think it's about 1h50 to 2h. My S7 was definitely faster in charging.
Takes about 90 minutes with fast charge
Around an hour and 20-30 minutes, a bit slower when I'm using wireless fast charging.
Did you notice a substantial difference between normal charge and fast charge? Lat time I checked it was about 10 minutes difference until full charge. I expected more, it was much better on the S7.
I think that fast charging got capped by samsung after all the note 7 exploding battery horror stories. And it got capped at 2.45amp fast wired charging and around 1.35 with fast wireless charging since the nougat update on the galaxy s7. when it was around 2.8 fast wired and 1.8 fast wireless charging on MM
Beside the charging rate cap, the fone is much cooler while fast charging now as it used to get crazy hot reaching temps above 42c while now it never gets over 36.smthing.
So while its slower i guess its a much better bet for the battery health and your safety.
Normal wired charging didnt change between MM and nougat and its around 1.7~1.8amp
These are my findings using the s7 and s8 exynos international versions and the statments above are purely my own opinion and experience which could be different for everyone.
I noticed that mine never goes over 1060ma while charging using Ampere. It takes about 1 hour 40 minutes to "fast charge" but it is cooler than any other phone I've ever had while charging.
The sad thing is that it REALLY takes longer if you are using the phone, like barely increasing its %. I even tried changing cables, chargers and places but now I know I'm not alone and this is how it works.
I have an Exynos.

IMO ampere is crap and slow to report, you need an app that can report as fast as cpufloat. As once you turn on the screen the charging rate will default to ~1amp regardless of the charging mode your using and thats when ampere starts to measure.
Use cpu float for info at glance
Or
Use accubattery to even help you distnguish which charging cables your using gives you the best charging rate.
Hope this helps

Back when I had my Galaxy S4 I used "CurrentWidget: Battery" which was really nice but is not working anymore so I installed Ampere.
I just tried both apps you mentioned and both gave me the 1050am right away. I'll try later on since I was at 90% and if I remember thats the point where it starts to throttle down the current.
I like the AccuBattery 80% cycle though, not sure I can really use it since I prefer to go with a full battery for the entire day.
Thank you!
Mine takes around 1hr 30 mins , The other night i turned fast charge off as i was going to leave it charge throughout the night but i actually forgot i had turned it off and had been charging for a few days with fast charge off..... surprisingly i noticed no difference! It still took around the same time to charge haha

You hit it on the nose. They slowed it to avoid the whole exploding battery problems just to play it safe. Also why they didn't cram a bigger battery inside it to keep heat down.
They lost a lot of money because of that. The only thing that really saved them was that some iPhones were blowing up too

Bear in mind that the charging rate will default to 1050ma whenever the screen is turned on no matter what charging mode your using.
To use my method in cpufloat app, open the app n keep it floating on your screen. Turn of the screen for awhile ( lets say 5 seconds) and n turn the screen back on. You will have a split second to read the current before it updates to the 1050ma. ( you can slow the update rate in the app settings btw.
Accubattery will have 2 readings, charging rate when screen on, charging rate with screen off.

Yup, I noticed that, thanks!
Accbattery showed me a maximum of 1156ma obviously it was charging with the screen off. From there my test starts since this charge was done using a multi-usb charger and had something else charging and wasn't using the original cable. We will see
Thanks once again!

What other difference you want?
The charging issues on the Galaxy S8 seem to be widespread. I was hoping the most recent software update would help resolve these issues but it hasn't. Extremely slow charging (71% charged, 3 hrs 17 mins to 100%) and random connectivity (wireless charging paused) with Samsung's OEM wireless charger. What I've found with respect to the wireless issue, if I leave the phone on the charging pad after a few minutes it will eventually engage to a slow charge mode. Direct charging with the Samsung 2.0 Adaptive makes no difference, still a very slow charge. The normal Fast Charge Notification which should appear at the bottom of the display has never appeared and the tab remains grey in the Advanced Battery Settings even when enabled. Prior to purchasing the phone I had read and was advised by a Samsung tech the phone was suited to accept Qualcomm's 4+ Quick Charge. That seems unlikely at this point. Just got off a live chat with Samsung Support, not surprising the tech offered no solutions which I hadn't already experimented with. Booting up in Safe Mode to see if the app(s) were the problem, clearing system cache, app cache, using a variety of adaptives and cables, updating software, checking the C jack for connectivity. The S7 Edge I had previous to the S8+ was a great phone, no problems whatsoever. I honestly feel that Samsung is dragging their feet and haven't yet gotten their hands around these issues. Seriously, do they really want to experience another wide ranging battery concern? I think not. I can get a refund or replace the S8+ (SM-G955FD) but I'm wondering if the problems may be so widespread it could easily be an issue with the replacement phone. From the research I've done these issues are popping up on all models, regardless of the manufactures location.

Erratic charging hell

Hello guys, since about 8 months of purchase of my v20, it is starting to charge quite erratically. When manufacturer's cable type-C is inserted, the phone will say "Because the cable provided is incompatible, charging is slow, use manufacturer's cable". WTF?? I thought I can finally get a phone that I can use in peace forever, however it looks like it is not.
Because of this charging problem, it ruined my last trip out of town where I ended up struggling the charge thie POC.
does any else experienced this problem? I just filled out rMA and intended to return it.
Assalam o alaikum
Have you tried after changing cable?
And what happen if you turn off the device and plug it on changing?
---------- Post added at 04:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:15 AM ----------
Simple fix: (hope it'll work in sha Allah)
1 Clean your Type C port
2 change your cable
3 try changing the adapter
4 try changing wall socket
5 try by shutting down your device and putting it on charging while shutted down
6 restore the device or change the rom
In sha Allah your device charging issue will be solved..
Thanks
My LG V20 [h918] began charging unreliably about the 10th-14th day after arrival in late June of this year. I only use the original cable and adapter provided to charge, directly into the wall outlet and while not being used and screen is off. Yet, it seems to be charging slower than my old devices that didn't have QuickCharge technology do and definitely not anywhere near as fast as my SG s7e on QuickCharge still does. I have to power it off to get a halfway acceptable charge time whether from 50% to full or down in the critical zone of 30% and under (which I have been doing more than I like to with the V20 as the battery life is disappointing at best and downright abysmal when out and about where I have to turn my screen brightness up past 50%, using Bluetooth, no wifi, on 4GLTE data and intermittently turning the screen on/off for switching songs, Google Maps tasks and other short duration, activity specific tasks I may need to during these journeys before returning the screen to it's resting status and into my pocket as I continue rocking out and walking to and fro to my desired destination at any given time and place) I generally charge up to 100% prior to venturing out into the great big scary world, carry a fully-charged replacement OEM battery I immediately ordered after receiving my V20 and my charging adapter/cable just in case it isn't practical to swap batteries for some reason and wait for the ridiculously long just under 5-minute boot-up process accompanying any and all battery swappings vs. powering down to charge up at a reasonable speed then rebooting device, which I find myself doing at least once or twice every day on average, something I'm growing much more dissatisfied with doing by the day, compounded by random lag issues, occasional Bluetooth connectivity problems, spotty Wi-Fi [I'm attributing this to the Qualcomm SnapDragon 820 chipset included in the V20 AND my S7E which also exhibits similar symptoms affecting the overall performance of these phones while on or trying to connect to Wi-Fi networks both at home and around the area where I travel and have remarkably stable 4G data signal reception and fairly good to excellent up/down speeds using T-Mobile Family Plan with 6GB data per month - thankfully I stored up 20GB of rollover 4G data quite quickly to use via Data Stash otherwise I'd be stuck in 2G data hell by the 3rd week each month due to being unable to use Wi-Fi as frequently and efficiently as I should be able to, at home especially but seriously - I can't wait to move onto something with at least a QC SD 821 or 835 chipset if not an altogether non-Qualcomm manufactured set-up entirely [Apple, Huawei both seem to produce compelling alternatives for consideration].
Yesterday it went from 68% to 94% in the time it took my S7 Edge to charge from 22% to a full 100% while both were powered on but display was asleep and charging with OEM cable/adapter using Fast Charging mode directly plugged into the wall outlet. Absolutely unacceptable. And ridiculous. My Asus Zenfone 2 outperformed these BOTH after rooting and optimization, modding, flashing new EVERYTHING under the sun. Neither of these phones have even been rooted. Maybe THAT'S my problem with the V20. I have no real reason NOT to root it. It has TWRP. Still on the h91810j build. Maybe this is the first step in making this device realize it's full potential? And one more thing - I heard that LG ships an inferior charging cable with this and most of their other products, one that doesn't fully utilize the QuickCharge 3.0+ functionality of the V20...any truth to this claim that owners of the LG V20 are aware of? Or more interweb speculations and misinformations? ??? This problem is really crippling an otherwise excellent device and I'd like to figure out what, if anything, can be done to remedy this situation as quickly as humanly possible. Before I accidentally throw it in a lag induced rage frenzy episode, quite unnecessarily I still have good reason to believe at this time...Words. I use them to excess. Effectively and excessively. :fingers-crossed:
