Is there an app or a hacked email apk that lets you bypass the Exchange security (PIN code required) that my work server has set up on it? I ask because I'd like to answer emails for them, but don't want the annoyance of the PIN every five minutes (I'd rather use the pattern unlock).
I'd guess NO, because that's an Activesync security feature? But maybe someone wrote a version that caches it, although it's likely more complicated than you think, requiring certs and back-and-forth from phone to server.
Just use TouchDown. It's not cheap (19.95), but its worth it IMO to be able bypass the pin annoyance. You can try the free version for 30 days.
My phone quite requesting the pin for exchange server after the Verizon update (the original OTA update). It only requests it on startup (and the server side setting haven't changed-tested on multiple devices). Anybody else exprience that?

New to Android so not sure if this is an Android qwerk, our Exchange sever or just my luck!
Tried adding a mail account for my Exchange server to sync mail, contacts and calendar etc, and a message comes up saying that a policy requires the device to be encrypted, I click to start that a it gives me the option... the Nexus7 reboots.. I get an android robot logo for 25 seconds then it reboots again and I get the glowing X .. but hasn't done anything and no exchange server.. and the message comes up to encrypt... and I can repeat to my hearts content but no joy
Any advice?

Get Touchdown for Tablets in the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nitrodesk.honey.nitroid&hl=en
I had this same scenario -- Exchange server sync's corp email, so encryption is required. It worked perfect for me first time. And it worked for others where I work. So it can work, but I didn't do anything special or different than what you described.
Touchdown
I had the same problem but bought a Touchdown license and everything works great. I think it has something to do with my IT department wanting complete control over the contents of my Exchange account on remote devices. Touchdown allows them to remotely wipe the contents of my Exchange data and makes sure that my data is store in an encrypted, password-protected sandbox.
Have you tried to encrypt the device before adding your Exchange account? In the Settings/Security area you should be able to encrypt the device, which is how I did it.

OK.. will keep trying

Trying Touchdown now, it works but doesn't integrate with the system calendar such that Google Now is aware of events etc.? Otherwise seems to work well, thanks for tip

Good idea, not tried that... although it looks like Touchdown avoids me losing control of my device as it looks like Corporate policies would lock out a number of features I'm enjoying playing with... camera, face lock, etc.

Found my fix
I was having this problem.
I did a factory reset, then went into the security menu and started the encryption. (Though, I did not pair it with any account at this time. I am waiting for after the encryption is done.)
So far, 50% done.
The reset was not really an issue for me, as I just got the device and have no personal content, just app downloads and account sync.

I had a similar situation. I got around it by turning off wifi and bluetooth. For some reason it wouldn't encrypt with either of those on.
I am using the native email app for my exchange account. It is useless..
1. Keeps force closing
2. Whenever I try to move a message to a folder it keeps loading then closes
I was hoping it would fix with the new OTA update but not luck.
I am using N900 model.
I actually have the same problem but on a S800 version of the phone.
I've tried clearing the cache, removing my account and a lot of different things.
I am rooted, use a different dpi than stock but via xposed it is stock dpi. It never worked w/o fcing the first time I open it, even before I was rooted even.
If I want to read an email I open the app, it fc's, then I open it again and all is fine...
Would be nice of anyone had an answer or fix for this.

Which means it's there on n9005 also!
Have you tried flashing one of the ROMs? Maybe it works fine in those?
Something causes the crashes and I suspect it's folder naming related and is depended on the local language. I thing even if I don't have the problem we must somehow contact sammy for this.
You have the problem in normal pop3 accounts or exchange accounts only?

Aha so it's a bug in Android 4.3 or something then.

Not too sure... Works fine on my HTC which is running Android 4.3
I have zero problem with the email app. 2 exchange accounts on it. So maybe it is indeed something about your particulars accounts.

i have this problem on my exchange account... not quite the same, but every time i get an email or notification to do with that account, i can't access it from the notification bar or the app will force close. even if i try to clear all notifications or clear just that one, it freezes up the phone for about 5 seconds then force closes the email app
any ideas? this sucks... i need that account for work...
I think we need to narrow down the problem, what I can do is to make for you a test email in my company just for you to test, I'm with exchange 2007. What you think,? I'm really thinking that is regional problem or something that has to do with character encoding in the phone or in the exchange server or even with the certificate.
You both have knox enabled?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 4
Well I have frozen the knox crop via titanium backup.
I've only setup a Hotmail account. Never had any problems on my old note 2 or s4. Not even on 4.3 Google edition roms or aosp. Anyway, the problem was there even before I rooted strangely. Even when I swipe away email notifications the app fc's.
Could it be an email.apk problem in the /system/app folder?
Could someone with root please upload it so I can test?
Another edit.
I've noticed it only happens when I get an email, which means I get an notification. If I open the app when I get an notification as well it fc's. When I just open is at random it doesn't fc. Very very weird

Working fine here. I have the exynos SM-N900 version with 1 exchange account. I use it for work so emails all day and no fc so far. I have wanam xposed with the exchange pin bypassed.

How do I disable knox?
Sent from my HTC Butterfly s using xda app-developers app
I have tried it with Knox frozen and not frozen....I'm on a n900w8 rooted with twrp installed. If I do anything to interact with an email notification from my exchange account it freezes the phone for a few seconds then force closes email. If I turn notifications off, and nothing gets displayed in the notification bar then I can use it all normally. And even with stuff being displayed, if I go into the actual program and check the email, it works, even with the notification there, but it doesn't go away and when I go to get rid of it then same thing force close.....what a load of Crap that Samsung puts out something with an issue like this on a phone that is supposed to be "business friendly" ****ing bull****
My problem with email app:
It sends emails just fine it does not receive any email unless i remove the account and add again. there is nothing wrong with my server (using IMAP push from hostgator) and in the K9 client its working flawlessly however i would really like to use the stock app. It wont receive email even if i do a manual refresh i have to remove the whole account and add it again
can anyone help me please??
Ok guys better don't turn off knox for this, we still don't know how it affects the overall system. As I see it it's problem with the samsung push service and the notification subsystem. The push service is upgraded before some days and my version that's working fine is 1.2.2.2

Are you able to move mails to folders in the mail app? Do you have many folders on your exchange server?

I'll try, I normally don't do that on the phone. I'll try it out.

Two things....first, would this cause the notification related issues I have?
Second, I just found that, if I set sync to manual, send myself an email from a Gmail account on my computer, then go into the email app and click refresh to sync, then I get the same problem....email freezes things up fit a few seconds then force closes. I can still Re open email and after I do that then it works fine and I can interact with my nail, it's just those two situations that causes the force close.....don't get it
I have both LG G2 and nexus 5 hooked into my exchange server. The G2 won't display the emails in the correct format, what I mean is they don't show photos, only the words. On the Nexus 5 (and touchdown hd app on G2) they display the email body as if you're seeing it on your desktop. Is the stock email app on the G2 not able to display it normally, or am I not seeing it up correctly?

Not experiencing your problem as our servers are set to deliver attatchments differently, but my mail app is not functioning correctly, period. I can have no problems all day, but once I receive an email, or try to respond, I'll get an error that login or password is wrong. It then won't work for a good 15 minutes. Maybe your issue isn't exchange, but the mail app itself? Do you have other emails set up under the mail app? Any problems?

I get that error also.
Also when I send emails sometimes (not every email I send) it sends weird characters/symbols. I can copy an email that I sent.

Hmmm my exchange works great.
The only problem is that it doesn't download the email immediately. When I open an email, there is a button that says "LOAD EMAIL" or something.
Not a big deal but if I'm in a dead zone, it's nice to be able to flip through emails still.
I'm sure it's a setting somewhere.

Figured it out. In the settings for exchange there is a option for HTML or plain text. I had HTML loaded, i changed to plain text and all is better. I still don't know what the difference is, but it worked.
Hi, I would like to ask if it's possible to log out from user account (to close all apps) when switching between accounts. Good example is FB Messenger - when I switch to second account I can still hear incoming messages and is quite annoying. Or is there any possibility just to mute/turn off Wi-Fi on one account only? Thanks in advance
