Ive had the device since October, quite randomly all of a sudden the camera will not focus and makes loud clicking noises when trying to focus. I seriously doubt i will be able to get an RMA.
Back to the good ole N5 till i get a replacement camera
Edit: flashed back to stock and voila, alls well... weird.
This. Happened with me few days back and didn't find even as single thread stating this problem. Thought I was the only one. You give me courage, my friend. lol.
It's the only thing stopping me from rooting my device
Edit : I'm on stock and it got fixed after I restarted my phone.

Rooting your phone doesn't void warranty. I had this issue on my Nexus 4 every once in a while, never fixed it.
I have had the same problems once since November. A restart fixed it...

I feel bad reviving a thread this old, but it is literally the only one about this issue. I just switched to the 5x again, and after getting everything all set up, my camera won't focus, and there is a clicking noise when it tries to. Everyone in this thread says a restart has fixed it, but both restarting and flashing back to stock hasn't helped me. Is it possible its a hardware issue?
I just replaced my camera with an 'authentic' ebay special and now it has issues focusing anything less than a foot away. I hear the clicking.

I got this refurb. last week and flashed it and started using using it. Well last night i was trying to take a picture of my kids and it would not focus. I thought maybe it was the rom i was using so i switched roms. No dice. It turns out no matter what rom i use the camera takes nothing but extremely blurry pictures. Doesn't matter whether i'm taking a still image or the distance. BLURRY. I know some people aren't happy with the camera in general but this is totally unusable. I even tried switching the quality to 1 megapixel. Same thing. So basically i think the camera on this refurb. is a POS. What im wondering is if Sprint is gunna give me problems when i want to exchange this thing. Otherwise im happy with the refurb, but i have twin two year olds and use the camera a lot.
Just flash it back using the backup I hope you did of the stock ROM. If not, there is a stock ROM RUU floating around here somewhere. Then take it to the Sprint store to have it replaced.
yea, i'm not really worried about returning it to stock, just a little pissed that i get a pre-broken replacement for my broken phone.

dude they did the same thing to me, i got a refurb in a week ago, the refurb screen had dead pixels in it already, so i just used this pixel fixerr app and it seems like it corrected the dead or sticky pixels or whatever their called, but i feel like this phone was jacked up when they sent it to me, also the menu and other keys make this weird ass noise when i press them now, smh
there is a little peice of tape like protection film on the inside of back cover pull it offf.... lol had the same problem... wife found tape and laughed at me.
Hahahaha my mom has the same problem I hope the tape thing is true.

Wow, thanks for reminding me how dumb I felt when I encountered this issue several months back!
I got my refurb, and re-rooted in the parking lot (I didn't want to risk wrecking my truck due to the frustration and rage I feel when I have stock 2.1 Sense on this phone ) I am not much of a picture person, but the few pics I did take looked so bad, and I never could get a barcode to scan no matter how steady I held the phone. I assumed it was related to the fact that we were in the early stages of Froyo development, and as we all know, the Hero camera is one of the last things to get fixed because of the drivers. When most of the bugs got fixed, and I saw no change in quality, I decided it must be faulty hardware. So I drove to Sprint, and used my laptop in their parking lot to run the RUU then I took the back cover off to take out the sd card. Thats when I saw the tape
WHen I first got the Slide it was awesome! The pictures it took looked great... but now my phone won't auto focus right... there is no manual focus... now it just takes awesome blurry out of focus pictures!
Is this happening to anyone elses phone? From the looks of the intertubez this will become a "known" issue with TMO
Are there any files the camera accesses for settings or the like that may be damaged? I have tried other ROMS and they all seem to have the same problem....
yup, happened to me too, i just got a warranty replacement and it's clear again. you have to call and get a new phone.
My camara was blurry the other day and I noticed it had condensation under the lens. It ended up drying out but the pics still arent as clear as they have been. Weird.

yea this same thing happened to mine and i just called them and got a replacement. i even tried resetting my phone before i sent it in and that didnt fix the problem so idk what causes it. Hopefully it doesnt happen again with my new one.
It started happening after this rave I played at.... the humidity inside was probably 100%
Yes, this happened to me as well. It would only focus on things literally about an inch from the lens. When wiping didnt fix the problem, T-mobile sent me a new Slide.
Blurry Cam
I just bought the MTslide about a week ago on craigslist and I too have the blurry focus issue, ive cleaned it, messed with settings all to no success. It only takes clear pictures if the object is an inch away. I of course do not have insurance cuz I bought on craigslist, is there anything I can do I'm desperate? I love this phone it's amazing but I dont want to have to go back to my CliqXT because of the camera (especially since its still on 1.5 till Motorola's "fairytale" update which they keep pushing aside)

What is the best program to use to backup all the programs and crap before I unroot this one and send it back...
Yep.... Same deal with mine. Sending it into HTC for repair. It is stuck in Macro focus... Go up to something close and it will be fine.
Fine if you only want to take macro photos..... otherwise useless!

I had the same problem with out of focus but it came down to condensation. I live in Florida and it has been hot and it is the same over the US right now. Everyone is using AC but going from cool and low humidity to hot and very high humidity well you build up condensation. I left my phone in the sun for about 45 minutes and then took some pics and it worked fine A few days later it was back to being blurry and tried the same thing. If I leave the phone in the house without going outside and take pics it is fine as well. Just going from on extreme to another it takes its toll. I do photopgraphy and when I go out to do a shoot I leave my camera in the trunk of my car to get rid of the condensation on the lens and mirros inside the camera.
I think i figured the problem out why everyone camera goes blurry.
I have the mytouch slide and the pictures were perfect and crystal clear. Then when the firmware 2.1 update came, that messed up the camera big time and made it barely unusable.
Please fix the issue!!!!
I just had mine replaced via warranty exchange. Just call, tell them you're having trouble, there's nothing on the lens, the water damage indicator is white, and it's still not working. You'll get a new one and if you don't have insurance they'll charge you ten bucks to deliver it to you.
I actually don't think it has anything to do with condensation or heat or humidity. Yes, all of those things can affect ANY lens on ANY phone, and the update may have even adversely affected certain handsets but this is a handset by handset issue. My father's mytouch slide got the update and still works better than my old camera did. It's a hardware problem with a certain batch of these phones. My wife's is still fine and she got it early on like me. The lens tries to focus and snaps back to its original position. It's a defect. You can play with the settings all you want, but other than minor adjustments and a lot of placebo effect, you're not gonna fix it.

I hear you. But i just got this two weeks ago in the store and the camera was perfect till after the update. I would hate to get a replacement for a silly camera. So debating to not care and keep the phone or just risk it and get a Warranty one
You have nothing to lose by getting a new one via warranty exchange. You don't even have to be without your phone. It comes to you in the mail, you backup your contacts, you hard reset the old one, you're done.
The camera won't get better, it will not improve, you'll have the new phone before you know it. And the slide is relatively new which means the longer you wait, the higher the likelihood that you get a manufacturer refurb. instead of the new one I got 2 days ago.
Just do it. Someone in your life will do something, you'll want the silly camera, and you'll go, "damn, I shoulda listened to that dude on the forum".

I'm practically in the same boat. I called a few repair places up here in Seattle and since it's such a new phone, none of them were able to order parts. Does anyone know if HTC will repair it. Or even repair it if it's rooted?
I just had this problem with my wife's slide and having read similar threads on different forums including tmobile's, I called customer care and lied a little about doing all kinds of things to make sure it's hardware, like doing a factory reset. Never mention that it's rooted! Just play dumb and they'll send you a new phone under warranty. We got the new one yesterday and I rooted it while my wife was still at work, following the new root method as it came with the 1.35.x update.and flashed chiefz 1.35.x rooted ROM (she likes espresso). When she came home I took the old phone and installed the 1.27.x esprimg.img and then flashed the 1.35.x OTA (non root). Put it in the return box and gonna drop it at a UPS drop box today.
It sounds like a lot of steps, but it goes relatively quick.

i'm currently experiencing the camera issue as well as my wifi not working (running CM6) ...it simply cannot see any networks. I tried even loading the latest nightly build to no avail. As my phone has a slight crack on one of the buttons I'm going to try and get a refurb and then possibly sell it for a G2
I'll reply how it goes
I honestly do not notice the blurry pictures issue that you guys are having. The pictures are awesome in light but gets a little grainy in low light conditions, other than that my pictures and videos are great. Are you guys complaining about low light pictures?

I had a NS with a back button that used to get stuck and i exchanged that NS for a new one. Since then i did not have the issue. Here comes 2.3.3 and the little monster is back. I have seen it twice in the past few hours. Google fix this ASAP or this phone is going back for good.
Anyone else with this problem?

That's not good!! I had this issue occasionally (never exchanged the phone though) and so far since 2.3.3 it's not happened.
I would strongly suggest raising the issue on the google support forums - there is an existing thread from before the 2.3.3 update which as it happens was meant to fix the problem......
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=455215ff8747658b&hl=en&start=40
Mine is N1, I also got back button problem occasionally since 2.3.3. I press the Back, I feel the vibration, but there is no action. I should retry few times.
I guess this is 2.3.3 bug.

my back button is very responsive maybe you need to reflash.
OK I take back what I said previously, this has started happening to me again now. In fact I'd say it's worse than it was before.
I have no idea what to do other than trying to exchange the phone which will probably be a nightmare because I've had it since early January..........
weird cause i read people saying that if their phone had a back button issue it was fixed with 2.3.3
Well I've taken it back to the carphone warehouse where I bought it, they are going to attempt a repair..............will hopefully end up with an exchange for a new handset - i'll keep you posted.
Well the nexus one never had this problem at all, never. And now since the update it too has this issue. So that's pretty solid proof to me that this problem exists and needs to be fixed by Google.
I have non rooted nexus s 2.3.2 and noticed this for the first time last night. Back button key would either stick and/or be un responsive (light would turn off).
I wonder I'd this be a memory issue in that it might occur more frequently when the device is low. Notice a lot of apps run services around midnight and in the morning when this is happening for me..
I have also seen problems with green screen from flash when memory is low.
Closing some apps seems to solve this.
Just a thought. Hope this is not a sign of a hardware failure.
I'm waiting to collect my "repaired" Nexy - wondering what if anything they will have done to try and fix it.....
Feel naked without my phone........
Take off battery cover. Tighten up a bit the screws on the back of the phone. See if that changes anything. I experienced that a little while ago, tightened the screws and now all's good. Haven't seen a single issue since. 2.3.2 and 2.3.3

Well I dont have the phone right now but I'll certainly give this a try if the problem happens again once I have the phone back.
Out of interest what size/type of driver do you need to fit the screw heads??
Thanks!!!

same problem with me. I upgrade to 2.3.3, the back button will stick for several seconds especially when you hit back key very fast and repeat after fast scrolling the screen.
I flash back to 2.3.2, change rom, not install apps, the problem is still there. And even in bootloader, the issue is still there.
I've just been told my phone is being sent to some central repair hub and might take 28 days to get back to me :-(
will probably get scratched to bits and still wont be fixed.....
Guess I'll have to dig out the old Sony handset to keep me going for a few weeks..today is a bad phone day...
Well I picked up the phone today and noticed a few things where different, firstly I now have an unlocked padlock icon at the bottom of the bootscreen - On checking recovery it would seem my bootloader has been unlocked....
Secondly it was running 2.3.1 which I also found odd?
Going charge it up and do a manual update to 2.3.3 using the full 90mb ROM, wonder if the back button issue has been fixed......? the repair notes said the PCB had been checked and cleaned......
I'll keep you posted.
So I've had my phone (d803 canada telus) for 2 years and it's been fine for most of it but a few months ago it started to reboot over and over, sometimes when im using an app or sometimes just sitting there.. sometimes it reboots right away and others it takes a whole night of wait to start again. Is there a way to fix this, i have performed a factoty reset and it didng didn't fix the problem.
Weirdly for about phases of a week once in a while the problem would stop amd and id be like whoa cool but it would start again and this time it looks like its gonna stay. Please help? Called and the only thing they said i could do was "repair" it for $149 but nuh uh. I don't even know what could have changed to the phone physically because i take good care of it.

It could be anything. A single bad capacitor could ruin a phone. It's rare but it does happen from time to time. Like raptorddd suggested, try to tot back to stock following THIS GUIDE. Then update to th latest ota and factory reset. If that doesn't fix it then it looks like you need a new phone. Good luck.
Had this issue when my battery started dying.
Got a replacement and the problem went away
If you take the phone apart you may notice the battery could have started to swell

Ok so I took my phone apart and didn't notice anything that weird except that it was reeeaallyy dirty inside, dust all over the place, mainly at the bottom where the speakers are. I cleaned it mostly but I don't think that's the problem. But I looked a little closer at the battery and it doesn't seem swelled like you suggested but it had tiny dents. Would I need to get it replaced? Don't even know how this could have happened. Would pictures help or is the desc enough
Yes. It's not holding proper voltage

So I've had this phone about 4 months in midnight black and this week I noticed a few times upon opening the camera that it won't Focus at all. Everything is extremely blurry but then if I tap the phone off my leg or something then point the camera back at the same thing it's perfect again. It continues to work perfectly until I close the camera and come back to it a while later where the problem just occurs again.
Has anyone else had this problem before?
It's a midnight black S8 SM-G950F
Yes, it's a common thing. If you actually search for it, you might find quite a bunch of posts about it. Camera gets stuck and the only "solution" is to shake it a bit. I also noticed that it happens less frequent if you give the camera a few days rest.
Yeah, got my phone less than a week ago and the first time tried the camera out it did this.. I'm so surprised that it's not a bigger thing on the net and some sort of #camerastuckgate issue.
Shook the thing are there it worked.. Yesterday it did the same thing again.
Yes it is an issue. Only solution right now is to shake the phone.
