How to enable USB Fast Charging in Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Folks,
I am using Team OctOS 5.1.1 custom rom in my Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 LTE.
My phone takes 1.5 hours for full charge. May I know how to enable USB Fast Charging?
Do I have to change kernel or something?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
The S4 does not have quick charging.

@GDReaper : Snapdragon 600 processor has Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 1.0 support.

in the AOSP 6.0.1 JDCT thread there are people stating the same as you while others have posted screenshots from Galaxy Charging Current showing 1900 mAh.

It's quick charge 1.0!
You expect it to charge 50% in 20 minutes, like the new phones with quick charge 3.0?
The battery of the S4 has a capacity of 2600mAh.
The maximum charging current of the S4 is 1900mAh.
So this means that, from 0mAh (0% battery) to 1900mAh (~80% battery), it will take a charging time of one hour. The other 700mAh (20% battety) will charge in about 30 minutes.
As you can see, there is nothing wrong with your phone. Your charge time is normal and there is nothing you can do about it.

Either way, if it really has quick charge then it is a hardware implementation. Meaning that it's the way it would charge by default.
In other words, there isn't any on/off switch. If it does have quick charge then that's the only way it will charge. Which renders the OP's question redundant.

"Fast Charging" would mean having a USB port type-C (like Nexus 5x or 6),so it's not possible.I've personally flashed a custom kernel and enabled Fast charging (kernel adiutor) it's not that fast but ok!

@r3i-al - which custom kernel did you use? how fast it is taking to charge?

I'm on crDroid 6.0.1 Gt-i9505 kernel: synergy s
On normal charging it takes 0% to 100% about 1 hour and half, on fast about 1 hour! It lasts same no matter normal or fast,if I don't use it 100% lasts 2 days and with using it non stop about 4 to 5 hours! Amazing

@r3i-al - is crDroid 6.0.1 Gt-i9505 kernel: synergy s working fine without any issues as daily driver? I am thinking of switching to it but wanted to check with you first for any issues or stick with my existing rom. Thanks

First thing: For me it's working better than a firmware,no bugs, light ROM everything is great and for the kernel it's like the previous but with much better battery...It is working for me but it's not meant to also work for you.You can see the forum of the ROM and u will see alot of ppl having problems and alot of without any! The ROM is updating like once or twice a month because it's not perfect for the others. It's your choice!

i think that Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 thats in S4 actually supports Quick Charge 1.0

Battery Drain while Charging, tried almost everything, need help!

Hi Guys,
Been following XDA for a long time but never had to post anything as everything had already had an answer to my question.
I know there are a lot of threads about battery drain but for some reason, everything I have tried has seemed to help minimally.
Here's the rundown.
I have a Galaxy S5 G900I running G900F custom rom, Resurrection Remix 5.6.7 Marshmallow.
Previously I was running the lollipop version of Resurrection Remix and battery was fine.
The phone is over a year old, but I have tested the battery with another S5 my wife has and it is perfectly fine. It charges fairly quick when the power is off on the phone and still fast enough while it's in use. Even if I am to open up a game on my wife's phone with my battery or hers, the battery continues to charge slowly while in use.
On my phone however, switched with both batteries, the drain is astronomical. I tested playing a game and I would lose practically 1% of battery per minute while in game.
What I have done so far is, installed Xposed, I have Amplify running following various guides which has slowed down the drain of my battery, I have installed Greenify which has also helped. I've turned off the scanning of wifi and bluetooth in locations. I have tried going back to stock rom which does help but it doesn't help me figure out the issue I want to fix.
I have tried switching power points in the house, changing usb cables, changing chargers, all of which do not help my phone with either battery, but on my wives it is fine.
I have also set CPU profiles in Rom Toolbox to lower CPU usage in idle, lower than 15% battery, while on charge. As of today, even while using the phone, I have limited the max CPU usage.
Prior to this latest updated Rom with Marshmallow, I could use my phone and have it plugged into my USB 3 on my PC and it would charge while in use unless playing a game or using a high demanding application, in which case, it would slowly drain. If in a power point adapter it would charge regardless.
Now, even in idle, on my PC, it drains while charging, and charges extremely slow on a power point.
I have searched for over a week trying to find any sort of guide or help with this problem and I have certainly minimized some of the drain but this is ridiculous.
If anyone has any idea's on what it could be, please let me know. I have tried cleaning all the dirt and gunk out of the charging point, the only thing I haven't done is pull apart the phone to see if its a hardware problem (Which I am starting to think it might be.)
have u tried with another usb cable?

Yes, I have tried various USB cables on various USB chargers, even non USB chargers I had laying around. And as I said, I have also switched the batteries into my wife's phone and they charge fine there.
The problems only started once I upgraded to Marshmallow.
It also persists when the phone is switched off and charging. It's just slow.

Do they persist while on L? Could possibly be a conveniently timed hardware failure.

Your default CPU 1900.0 MHz (8-core) this now running at 2400 MHz, you are lucky that the phone did not permanent damaged up to date.
Find S5 G900I compatible ROM and not what ever ROM.
try to factory reset your device 1st. if its only started after MM update then must be software issue.

Done that. Had a previous ROM installed and the battery was better. But I want to know how to fix the issue, I don't want to revert back to older software.
I know its possible because even with the same rom installed, before I bricked it and forgot to back it up, I had better battery life.

It seemed that you did that unsuccessfully, OR you battery gets old and needs replacement.
At about 400 charging times, the battery this is now at 80% capacity or less.
In my S5 I have permanently activated basic power saving mode, this clocks the CPU always lower than Max.
The phone seems happy, and I am too.
By using one Qualcomm App I discovered how low is low with basic power saving mode on.
Flash a custom Kernel and you can set it more or less as low as you like
S5 this is a very complicate device, I am trusting only Samsung about it.
If this was an old tablet with out ROM support from anywhere, in this case I would.

But you could just flash a compatible custom Kernel and then have control over the CPU/GPU clocks

This one looks like it supports stock TW 6.0.1 MM for the G900F
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...kernel-phoenix-kernel-v7-marshmallow-t3340407
But like always, do your own research before flashing
EDIT - Actually it looks like the dev has left out OCing from this Kernel, not sure about downclocking/under volting - maybe request it in his thread

Galaxy Note 4 extended battery incorrect reading

Hello everybody,
I own a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 N910H and an extended 9600mah battery on it.
But the issue I'm facing is that the phone does not give me the correct value of the current battery level, which can be sometimes very annoying like being stuck on 1% for a little while with no brightness.
The extended battery I have is the Kranich 9600mah Extended battery you can find its review here
I've already tried quite a few times calibrating the battery, run more than the recommended 5 cycles but I can't have the correct value of it.
So I would like to know is there a method to manually change the default value of battery capacity from stock one (3220 mah) to the correct one.
Any help would be appreciate.
My configuration
ROM : eRobot ROM v.7 (Android MM)
Kernel : H-Vitamin (3.10.9)
Battery: Kranich For Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Smart 9600mAh Extended Battery Replacement
Hope you guys can help me fix this.
Regards,
Here is the battery stats from the last cycles.
You can see more than 5 peaks on it.
For each one, the phone went down to 1% stuck there for a moment (that moment decreases progressively).
Everytime the phone turned itself off, I pulled out the battery and put it back in before restarting the it.
For the first time (meaning the second peak) the battery was at 26% after the phone boot up, the third it was at 19% etc. Until it shows 1% during the last one.
See below screenshot.

Woooowww this is absolutely incredable. At this moment I can only use mine for 2 days, I will flash this kernel ASAP and let fou know after using it.
Thanks a lot.
After one hour of usage with this kernel, it's not accurate yet and shows 88% after I pull out the battery and put it back in and it shows 94% which is quite a lot for an extended battery.
I'm currently on eRobot Custom ROM which is a S7 ported ROM and I plan to go back to stock ROM like Hani Base ROM maybe it will make a difference.
I have the phone in my signature (N910F) and now I'm using Emotion kernel for Zerolemon variant.
I mount a IBestwin large battery and the gauge is not accurate yet.
Probably I need to calibrate better the battery.
How is it work this kernel you made?
Sent from Note 4 device - Rome - Italy
After one day of usage starting from 65% it's pretty accurate.
I'm charging up to 100% and see how it works.
You can definitely try it.
But do remember it's d'or N910C/H and it's seems like Emotion kernel is for N910F.
@LukasAddon 87% on battery 19h remaining. This is weird.
Do I need to complete some cycles before it starts to show correct infos ?
The screen-on time has been very poor for me on spacelemon kernel but thé standby time is incredible.
If there is another kernel i'm willing to test it too.
kernel not need cycles before it starts to show correct.
when i charge buttery , it very long write on display "charging 100%" , but it is not 100%.
i wait some hours and then it write "charging complete" on lock screen and then battery is full charged
and DISABLE FAST CHARGE option in settings !!!!
try new version 2.1.0 on git hub.
https://github.com/LukasAddon/SpaceLemon-N910H-Kernel/releases/download/V2.1.0/SpaceLemon_v2.1.0.zip with Zerolemon Path
do not load SpaceLemon_Standart_Battery_v2.1.0.zip - its for standart battery
you need to install Synapse from goole play and tune kernel

Is your scrren-on time good enough ?
And is it possible to use it on custom ROM ? I was on eRobot ROM v.7 and due to overheating I flashed back a custom stock (Hani Base ROM).
One last thing, which settings do you consider the best with synapse for your Kernel ?
Thanks again for you efforts.
you can use custom rom, try first full charge buttery. and then test it.
my battery charging min 6-8 hours when i sleep )))
my 5 days on battery if i use 1.5 hours screen every day.
all default settings in synapse i put in kernel.

That's what I thought for the screen-on time I will test it for this week and I will report to you how it works with screenshots.
If everything is fine and hopefully it will, I'll then try it on eRobot ROM and report again.
Thanks a lot mate for this piece of magic.
it must be fine =)))
This is what I got from the last 2 cycles, as I said previously, the standby time is absolutely incredible when the phone is idle, there is no battery pourcentage drop. But while using it, you can see the screenshots below it's a real fast drop.
I just ordered kranich 9600 mAh . My n910c is running on Erobot v11.1 MM can anyone please recomend me a good kernel to show exactly the battery percentage?

You Can use SpaceLemon the dev shared the link here. I'm on eRobot 7 because the 11.1 was overheating.
As of now it has been the most accurate kernel I've used, btw the h_vitamin kernel dev said that it Will have extended battery support soon.

OnePlus 2 fast charging..?

Hello everyone,
I just want to know is there any setting/boeffla kernel setting for fast changing.

Hi,
As far as, I know there isn't any kind of external factor or kernel setting for fast charging.
& for us, just put our phone on flight mode & close all background app.

3-4 hours? You either have a problem with your charger or battery or maybe your phone consumes battery very fast.. Mine usually charges full within 90 mins or so (without force closing apps or using airplane mode or anything extra)

SM-N9005 LTE Charging at an incredibly slow rate

So I recently installed an unofficial Lineage OS Rom and replaced the charging port of my Samsung SM-N9005. Had some battery troubles here and there, but this new issue take the cake. On the lock screen, it says it is charging to full in 17 HOURS
I have no idea what could have caused this since it only recently happened with the same , and even launching Lineage OS in safe mode will still show 17 hours to charge.
Will changing to a stable Rom help? (Running 14.1-20170426-UNOFFICIAL-hlte)
Flash your stock rom and test .
Battery calibration takea a week or so of use.

I remember trying Resurrection Remix (I know it is not the same ROM) and when I connected the phone, it always showed "Charging slowly" on the lock screen and it charged normally which made me think it was highly inaccurate. I'd say you might have a similar issue as to where it won't actually take the full 17 hours to charge, it just says that because it is inaccurate. I'd try another ROM instead or try this ROM out for a couple of days and see if it ACTUALLY does take 17 hours to charge.
Edit: Oh and by the way, replacing the charging port is not always a solution to an original problem. What I mean by that is that I once had a phone and I replaced the charging port and right away I noticed it didn't charge as it used to charge, it went way slower. Port replacement is very tricky and if done incorrectly, your phone won't charge as it needs to.
I had to replace the charging port as the bottom half of my phone dropped in water, if not it would never charge. Thanks for your help, I'll try out your suggestions!

SOT cannot be same for everyone. But I get good two days of usage.
Charging speeds are also better than the Stock. I don't know the speeds as the stock rom doesn't show it on the charging screen.
One more thing: This is some machine learning algorithm. So will take a while to 'set-in' on your phone for maximum effects.
