Galaxy Note 4 extended battery incorrect reading - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
I own a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 N910H and an extended 9600mah battery on it.
But the issue I'm facing is that the phone does not give me the correct value of the current battery level, which can be sometimes very annoying like being stuck on 1% for a little while with no brightness.
The extended battery I have is the Kranich 9600mah Extended battery you can find its review here
I've already tried quite a few times calibrating the battery, run more than the recommended 5 cycles but I can't have the correct value of it.
So I would like to know is there a method to manually change the default value of battery capacity from stock one (3220 mah) to the correct one.
Any help would be appreciate.
My configuration
ROM : eRobot ROM v.7 (Android MM)
Kernel : H-Vitamin (3.10.9)
Battery: Kranich For Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Smart 9600mAh Extended Battery Replacement
Hope you guys can help me fix this.
Regards,

Here is the battery stats from the last cycles.
You can see more than 5 peaks on it.
For each one, the phone went down to 1% stuck there for a moment (that moment decreases progressively).
Everytime the phone turned itself off, I pulled out the battery and put it back in before restarting the it.
For the first time (meaning the second peak) the battery was at 26% after the phone boot up, the third it was at 19% etc. Until it shows 1% during the last one.
See below screenshot.

Woooowww this is absolutely incredable. At this moment I can only use mine for 2 days, I will flash this kernel ASAP and let fou know after using it.
Thanks a lot.

After one hour of usage with this kernel, it's not accurate yet and shows 88% after I pull out the battery and put it back in and it shows 94% which is quite a lot for an extended battery.
I'm currently on eRobot Custom ROM which is a S7 ported ROM and I plan to go back to stock ROM like Hani Base ROM maybe it will make a difference.

I have the phone in my signature (N910F) and now I'm using Emotion kernel for Zerolemon variant.
I mount a IBestwin large battery and the gauge is not accurate yet.
Probably I need to calibrate better the battery.
How is it work this kernel you made?
Sent from Note 4 device - Rome - Italy

After one day of usage starting from 65% it's pretty accurate.
I'm charging up to 100% and see how it works.
You can definitely try it.
But do remember it's d'or N910C/H and it's seems like Emotion kernel is for N910F.

@LukasAddon 87% on battery 19h remaining. This is weird.
Do I need to complete some cycles before it starts to show correct infos ?

The screen-on time has been very poor for me on spacelemon kernel but thé standby time is incredible.
If there is another kernel i'm willing to test it too.

kernel not need cycles before it starts to show correct.
when i charge buttery , it very long write on display "charging 100%" , but it is not 100%.
i wait some hours and then it write "charging complete" on lock screen and then battery is full charged
and DISABLE FAST CHARGE option in settings !!!!
try new version 2.1.0 on git hub.

do not load SpaceLemon_Standart_Battery_v2.1.0.zip - its for standart battery
you need to install Synapse from goole play and tune kernel

That is the version I've downloaded the 2.1.0 but I will download that Synapse application and tune the kernel. I didn't notice that the fast charging was unabled, so I will charge it again and will let you know.
Is your scrren-on time good enough ?
And is it possible to use it on custom ROM ? I was on eRobot ROM v.7 and due to overheating I flashed back a custom stock (Hani Base ROM).
One last thing, which settings do you consider the best with synapse for your Kernel ?
Thanks again for you efforts.

you can use custom rom, try first full charge buttery. and then test it.
my battery charging min 6-8 hours when i sleep )))
my 5 days on battery if i use 1.5 hours screen every day.
all default settings in synapse i put in kernel.

That's what I thought for the screen-on time I will test it for this week and I will report to you how it works with screenshots.
If everything is fine and hopefully it will, I'll then try it on eRobot ROM and report again.
Thanks a lot mate for this piece of magic.

it must be fine =)))

This is what I got from the last 2 cycles, as I said previously, the standby time is absolutely incredible when the phone is idle, there is no battery pourcentage drop. But while using it, you can see the screenshots below it's a real fast drop.

I just ordered kranich 9600 mAh . My n910c is running on Erobot v11.1 MM can anyone please recomend me a good kernel to show exactly the battery percentage?

You Can use SpaceLemon the dev shared the link here. I'm on eRobot 7 because the 11.1 was overheating.
As of now it has been the most accurate kernel I've used, btw the h_vitamin kernel dev said that it Will have extended battery support soon.

It was the Rom that was causing overheating not the kernel, so you Can try it on eRobot v.11.1 and see how it works. Knowing that you Can go back to h_vitamin suemax etc. whenever you want.

ROMs that support extended battery?

Guys i need you help!
A few days ago i stumbled to a cheap extended battery for HD2 and i bought it.
Unfortunately i just found out that most Android NAND ROMs dont support it....
Can you please point me to a ROM build that does support it?
Its a non-HTC 2600mA battery....
Currently im using CoreDroid 1.6 and its draining my extended battery just like a normal one.....
Thanks!
extended battery support is kernel related, not rom related.
every rom which is using the current tytung or rafpigna kernel supports extended battery, so my guess: nearly every rom out there

Well...CoreDroid 1.6 uses rafpigna 1.9OC kernel.....
Why is it draining my battery so fast?
I charged it to 100% at 16:00,now is 23:30 and its already at 65%.....

Not much.
I used like i use it normaly.
A few cals during the day, couple of texts and a few minutes of internet...
My standard battery usualy lasts 24-36hours.
I thought extended battery would give me 2-2.5x longer battery life....
I read somewhere that when battery level reacher zero extended battery users should restart the phone and it will go back to 60%....
I wonder if Android can even charge extended battery to 100%?
If the battery you bought is a non HTC battery then it may not be what it is advertised to be, ie not the ma that it is supposed to be, you hear many stories of cheap or 'fake' extended batteries

Get "Battery Monitor Widget Pro" and that tells you what mAH your battery is and that way as its non-htc you will know if its genuine, i bought a non htc battery apparently 1600 mAH when i first got phone but had no idea back then and only until i got "Battery Monitor Widget Pro" it told me it was 1230mAH which is the original battery so i just use one as a spare now and take 2 out with me, so i can drain it as much as i want, as i know ill never be without
Ok,here's what i did.I let the phone discharge to 50% thatn i powered it off and took the battery out for 10 seconds.
After rebooting the phone battery level was 78%
Im guessing that rafpigna kernel can read extended batteries just not entirely correct.
I'll wait until phone discharges completely and will take out and reboot again.
I tried Battery monitor widget and it reports 1230ma....
When i finish testing i will report back.

Please Help - Problems Again

Guys its me again.
Flashed Pre-Rooted DDJP6 and G3MOD 1.8 extreme kernel.
Charged for 2 hours, After that taken my phone out of charging suddenly battery started draining to 10% and phone switched off. i waited for a while and restarted phone battery was 80% and suddenly 10% again and phone switched off.
In the past i had been changing rom since last 4-5 days from Kyrillos to Indroid to XXPJF to DDJP6.
Kindly tell me what is the issue?? Many suggest to calibrate, when we calibrate we have to drain it in reality and recharge it to 100% but my phone if showing fake battery it drains instantly so how do we really drain it and re-charge??
I want to solve this problem asap. As my phone is almost unusable, i suspected SETCPU is causing this so i uninstalled it but still no use.
Please help i don't want to re-flash the rom and lose the data again
There is a high possibility that your battery is damaged since, as I understood, this problem persists in more than one roms.

Switched it off for a 20-25 Minutes.
Switched on since last 2hours 3minutes and Mobile WIFI ROUTER AP in use since then.
still 22% Left. Dont understand , sometimes works very well and sometimes what a lag. I would let it drain and then charge fully.. Hope it works

first change the kernel to G3MOD v1.9 lite. be rooted. using root explorer delete batterystats.bin or install BatteryCallibration.apk charge upto 100% then let it drain. use battery monitor widget to check health and voltage of the battery. report it here. if health is good and voltage is >4150mV, u are good.
Actually its such an pain to again n again change the kernel i can't doo al data2sd and stuf again
btw i had cleared battery stats from the recovery so i don't have a stats.bin file when i tried batterycallibration it said the files is missing.
Sometimes battery works nicely and sometimes it lags usually at night what solution we have for this?
Battery was running fine at 100% on some tough work for an hour or so. Its rocking
So lets experiment , see the log below ->
SETCPU set to on demand max 1Ghz.
11:33 = Battery 100% , SETCPU setting on boot, wifi on , fb chat on , opera on.
11:41 - Battery at 74% FB CHAT off now installed operamini.. let me browse SETCPU still on
11:52 - Battery at 61% , Opera On , Setcpu modified to SAVE POWER.
11:54 - Battery still at 61% but phone is lagging more then it was before SETCPU. So i have uninstalled setcpu and kept my phone for charging. Lets see how much time it takes to fully charge..
I have reached the conclusion that SETCPU is the cause of problem
Even after SETCPU problem persists... drained it once and charged for about 1 hour , was showing BATTERY FULL... took it off charger switched on, was 100% kept in pocket in idle condition. 10-15 minutes passed by took it out and was down to 80 then to 50 in next 15-20 minutes without any work... What's gng on some1 help

Best kernel........????
Well there are 2 kernel which are just awesome ......G3mod 2.0 b3......and Fugumod kernel......
U can flash any one of them.....
I personally prefer Fugumod....but it's your choice coz both are fantastic....
Flash the new kernel and clear the battery stats....calliberate....and Setcpu doesn't harm your battery....
Even i am thinking about FUGUMOD.. does it include Recovery , app2sd ,data2sd and stuff.
If yes can you tell me which version exactly of FuGuMOD is the best for non lag stable superb experience ??
M using DDJP6 pre-rooted with superuser and i don't want to format and wipe stuff again.. lots of apps are dere and internal memory is still 800mb empty so will it b impacted if i flash a kernel?

If the batttery gets swollen, it means it is near the end of its lifetime. If it is swollen so much that you cant put your back cover on, it is time to change your battery. i would recommend you not to use your phone with that battery and get a new one ASAP.
Just to clear things out, fugumod doesn't include CWM recovery nor does it include app2sd script. You have to do this manually unless you are using a custom ROM which has this preloaded such as kyrillos' ROM.

It is weird that it happened on this phone. I CAUTION you STRONGLY not to use that battery as it may damage your phone, leave aside blasting and all.
I would also recommend you to take more care of the phone as in, not left in charge for way too long, not overclocked constantly at very very high speeds continuously, and also to check where you keep you phone while charging (dont keep it on heat emitting stuffs like stabilizers, fan regulators etc) Change your battery of course.
Looks like the problem is You. It is neither the battery nor SetCPU. You skipped some basic stuffs, ignored the governor scaling of setCPU and now just pay some attention and if you do, you got yourself a solution!

Nope its the battery only I checked it a mobile expert and saw the battery a bit swollen so its definitely a battery issue. I set the right profiles and governor while using setcpu. Maybe overcharging must have damaged my battery.

Battery drain during usage

Hi All,
I've been playing with my Galaxy Note for a few days now (got it last Friday) and everything is going good.
However, after upgrading to RocketRom v22 I noticed my battery drops relatively fast. For example I used the phone for about 15-20 minutes on the way into work this morning and I'm already down to 92% battery.
Are there any tweaks I can do?
Right now batter usage shows the following:
Display 48% (I have it set on auto)
Internet 15%
Cell standby 14%
Idle 9%
OS 7%
System 4%
Try badass battery monitor

The only app who have found my bad apps
Sent from my VIC-20 / VC-20
Also keep in mind most custom roms come with their own kernel and some kernel's etc just tend to work better for some..
The franco kernel gives me great performace but it tends to drain my battery more then abyss kernel..
Right now Im on abyss kernel 4.1 and battery is pretty good..I'm at like 12% battery with close to 4 hours on screen time...I can definitely deal with that..
Also when you change kernels you need to give them time to set in so wait a couple days and see how things are.
with rocket v22 you can change the brightness settings with jkay mod. try the dark setting and keep the auto brightness setting on. the huge note display causes always the biggest battery drain.
and as already mentioned, try different kernels, always with clearing cache/dalvik/battery stats.
download betterbatterystats app in market and check for background apps that are running on your phone..
check for wakelocks , and it's sometimes good to use a different kernel to try to improve battery performance as well..
used Franco's latest kernel before.. it not only heated up my phone.. but it also speed up the battery drain process.
had to reflash back to another kernel - Abyss Note or SpeedMod to get the stability back.

- try not to judge the kernel performance without 2 full battery charging n discharging cycles.
- prior to flashing any kernel use the kernel cleaning script like jbroid's to remove the trace of the old kernel.
- 2 or 3 reboots would be good before regular usage.
- use betterbattery stats for knowing the wakelocks, cpu spy to know the deep sleep mode, battery monitor widget to know the temperature n drain stats.
- once u have reached a stable state of performance and battery life pls stick to it! This is the most difficult part!
Why open a new thread for a ROM specific topic? You downloaded the Rocket ROM v22 and you have a question concerning this ROM. Then pls ask there - I am sure you'll get (more) help.
But, being polite I'll ask what you did in those 15—20minutes? Listening to Internet Radio, web browsing and playing a game or ... if you could specify what you did, it's easier to get help.
Furthermore you could download CPUSpy, to see whether the phone gets into deep sleep (or not).
If not, there are some apps that'll help you out (better battery stats or badass battery, the ones mentioned in the posts above). And then, it'll be user related and neither ROM nor kernel related.
Next thing (already mentioned as well) is how often did you charge your phone? Sometimes ROMs, kernel and the battery need some time to work well together...
And auto-brightness is sometime a battery drainer as well...
Galaxy Note GT-N7000 - GB.XXLB1
Try using a stock rom, with custom kernel. You'll have less problems than the "custom" rom your using.

Battery drain

Hello!
I rooted my phone as of yesterday, I charged it all night and when I took it off today the battery went from completely full to dead withint 3 hours of no use. I did not use the phone at all.
Any ideas?
If you just rooted your phone, you should not have battery drain... Try to temporarily disable root (with Voodo OTA RootKeeper for exemple)
Use better battery stats to nail down which app is causing the drain
Did you try wiping your battery stats in CWM - advanced?
There's also an app, Battery Calibration, on the Play Store that may help with that.
Not uncommon to get weird battery readings after changing rom's or rooting.

This is soooo strange. Not a normal behavior!! Before you root your phone, how the battery lifes goes??? Are you in a stock or modified ROM? Wich kernel are you using?
I faced this issue a couple weeks ago. Android S.O was the culprit and it was driving me crazy. I was using a custom ROM (RemICS-UX). I solved the problem returning to stock and erasing everything, then i reflashed the ROM and the kernel, in my case Devil3 0.79. If you want to give it a try!!
After that my batterys life is pretty fine, during at least 2 days!
Feel free to ask anything you want! Cheers mate

Go through a couple more full charge cycles, if android os usage isn't very high then, it should be fine.
Edit: on second thought, draining the battery without use in 3 hours is extreme, and would suggest that the CPU is running at max speed all the time. If it doesn't solve itself or improve a lot after a few more charge cycles, reflash everything.
Using GT-I9000 my sent Tapatalk 2 from.
Did you just root your phone or did you flash another ROM? Some ROMs have horrible battery life.
The stock battery usage monitor (Settings>Battery) should be enough to tell you what ate your battery. If it's a particular app you're running, try disabling that and see if it improves. If the usage is mostly "Android System", "Mobile standby", or something like that, then you have a tougher problem. The free app CPU spy will let you know if something is keeping your CPU usage high. Better battery stats is pretty cheap and will give you much more specific information.
+1s for BetterBatteryStats and waiting a few charge cycles before judging/debugging your battery drain, especially if you changed your kernel to root or flashed a rom.
I find that after flashing a new rom or kernel my phone, the battery level shown in recovery mode is higher than in the rom's settings, for a couple days. (You can see batt level in semaphore's recovery). I once dud a lazy search about this and found nothing, but I figure that's what is meant about waiting a few cycles gir your battery to calibrate.

There's no such thing as "calibrating your battery". It's a myth. Wiping your battery stats file doesn't do anything other than reset the tracking of what's using power. It doesn't magically fix your battery meter. Flashing a new ROM doesn't leave left over data, again a myth.
Battery life is never consistent after flashing because your ROM needs to "settle" for a day or two first and during that time your ram and cpu usage are all over the place.
The rest is a placebo effect.

Currently I'm experiencing a huge battery drain too. I used both tools which where mentioned here in this thread and when the drain occours, CPU spy reports that my SGS didnt go in deep sleep at all with turned off display, it was at least at 100mhz all the time! I attached 2 logs from better battery stats and it seems like the NotificationService is causing it?
I'm using JW6 PDA JW4 Modem and JVC CSC in combination with the MNGB 0.5.8 Kernel.
Definitely, now you got to find out what is causing it!

Nexus 6p stand by battery life on pure nexus

Hello everyone , hope y'all doin good.
I got a question. I got my 6p a new rom , purenexus... Flashed a new kernel (elementalx). I did it yesterday , but today morning , I woke up , on 100% , unplug my phone , put it on my pocket and 2 hours latter , I had like 96%. This is a massive decrease over stock Android when it came outta the box. Can someone tell me if this is normal or not , or what shall I do to get the impressive 1 month on stand by that I had (phone was on 70% , broke the screen , didn't touch it , repaired it , when I turned it back on , it was on 37% , for a whole month+). What shall I do to get the best outta stand by time ?

Check your battery capacity with Accubattery. Run it a few times. Your battery may be degraded like many other ppl out there. To rule out the ROM itself, flash stock and compare.

Everything with the battery is ok , just got to get a good standby time , does anyone has any tips ?
Well, how many apps have you installed I the last 24 hours? Maybe all your apps are optimizing possibly?
What do you have running?
Any chance you were playing music?
Did the phone have a y heat to it when you took it out your pocket?
Also... I always felt that the first 1-5% goes really fast.

Ha Ha, what is your measured capacity with Accubattery? Probably thousands of ppl are having degraded battery problems. If you are looking for a limited PN fanboy response, why not just post in the dedicated PN sub-forum? You have a battery drain problem but apparently don't want to run a battery diagnostic to find out where the problem really lies, or flash to stock and find out if your custom ROM is the cause. A "tip" is not going to cure your problem. It requires homework.
Edit: Another issue is that the 6P is inaccurate at reporting 100% charging. Your device may charge for up to an hour longer to actually be full on the stock charger after showing 100%. What you see as fully charged may not be.
I left Pure Nexus because battery life was very poor compared to stock and Cortex. I thought it might stabilize after a couple days but the poor battery life was a constant and I was not the only person having that issue. I was running PN with Flash Kernel and Flash's profile. You will get better battery life with Franco Kernel but with noticable negative effect on the performance of your phone. You could always try Francos Naptime app which puts your phone into deep doze as soon as the screen goes off but I didn't personally care for the app. You might want to consider a different Rom if battery life is very concerning to you. I'm currently on Dirty Unicorns with Flash Kernel and I'm getting better battery life than Pure Nexus but not as good as Cortex. The problem with Cortex is that you have to use Flash Kernel to get good battery life and there is no OMS support. When Substratum stopped working in Legacy Mode (again) I decided to switch to a Rom with OMS support.
