My LG X 8.3 tablet just got marshmallow, but not my Droid Turbo. Perhaps Verizon should give out condoms with their new smartphones, as they screw everyone over in the updates
I experienced the same feeling yesterday when mine (X 8.3) updated. Really makes me think the lack of update has more to do with Lenovo/Motorola.
I love my turbo as it is, rooted unlocked and Xposed. Just want security updates really.
CM is too unreliable on my Turbo where I live. Full 4G becomes barely 3G. I don't know what my next phone *will* be, but I know it *won't* be a Lenovo/Motorola. Too bad because I love their hardware.

No, VZW deserves the blame. They're notorious for being slow to release anything until they've made it as unhackable as they possibly can.

VZW had NO problem pushing updates to the 2013 Droid phones before almost anyone else...that was when Google owned Motorola...
Now that Lenovo runs the show, we don't get updates...hmmm...

I just find it comical that the Droid X was hyped up to come with 2.2 and then it launches with 2.1, which wasn't a big deal...
However now as a slap in the face.. The droid1 got froyo... The droid 2 has froyo.. Now the droid incredible also has froyo.. And the X is left alone by itself in 2.1 land.. Any comments?

I'm not really worried about it as I (and probably most of us) already have froyo...even if it isn't OTA
Yeah its more or less just showing where DroidX owners stand on verizons priority list, that's last

And I agree with the OP.... I think the Droid X should have gotten the update by now also... being the flagship phone and all.

My comment is its BS!! i know its potentially just a week or 2 away (maybe) but there is no reason why it should be the last freaken droid to get the update. This is suppose to be the daddy of all phones. If anything it should have been the 1st. Sorry just impatient because i want it but dont want to mess with leaked version that has to be manually installed. Who knows if its even the final version.
I'm going to list the phones in order of release with their Froyo Status.
Droid - Froyo'd first
Droid Incredible - Froyo'd second
Droid X - FroyoLeak, no OTA
Droid 2 - Released Froyo'd
It's only logical that X is last. Of course, it's not Verizon's fault. It's technically Motorola's, as they are the ones providing support for the phones they themselves released... But with the leaked Froyo out, it's only a matter of time before the OTA update's out. Just give it time, ok?

It's most likely Moto's fault. Taking their time, etc. I'm just hopeful they'll release it soon. I'm laying off upgrading to the leak because I did the leak on my eris and got screwed.

+1 as well. Whoever said this means the X is last on VZW's list of importance has no clue...vzw has nothing to do with it. Motorola does.

It could actually be verizon holding it up. There is a very exhaustive testing process that all phones have to go through to be allowed on the vzw network. Most of the time the long lead is the first time through testing withdrawn updates taking much less testing and therefore much less time. However, if verizon found some issue that they don't want to allow on their network they could require motorola to go back, fix it, and get back in line to get the testing performed. Of course, some times verizon waves their hands let's the phone go through with minimal testing. We really can't know.

Good point. But still..that doesn't portend that the X is low on verizon's priorities..quite the opposite I think.
I think there are tons more droids than droidx phones in use. The lack of flash in the recent froyo release for the droid seemed to have caught more of motorola and verizons attention since they rolled out /are rolling out an update in short order.

There's still no timeline and it appears the X will be getting 4.4 weeks before the Droid family.
So we're supposed to celebrate because MotoGoogle hasn't declared two-month-old devices obsolete? Gee, expectations are really getting low around here.

Pretty much my thoughts too. I pretty much knew right when I saw the Nexus 5 that Moto X and droids would be about a month or so behind in the update cycle.
What I'm actually excited to see is if 4.4 actually gives Verizon phones the ability to use Google Wallet or whatever payment system/NFC trickery

The Google/Verizon plans for 2014 are probably LTE tablets. Maybe- just maybe- we'll see a Google phone that is VoLTE-only, but I find it hard to believe that Verizon and Google would willingly partner on that. It doesn't seem like Verizon's style.

That's what those of us with Photons on GB thought too. Motorola's story was they would get JB...right up until the day they said they never would.

We all knew it was coming, but it looks like Motorola has finally officially changed hands from Google to Lenovo. I went to their site this morning and got a new flash animation site entry trailer that said Motorola a Lenovo Company. The 2014 X was certainly a product of the Google era, it will be interesting to see which way it goes now.
As long as they don't screw with quick updates and the performance of these phones, I don't care.
Well i ordered my moto x yesterday through motomaker. It already has been assembled and is now shipping from shenzen. I have to say i am living in Germany

Shouldn't really change much for these devices, Google is still in the works with Motorola due to the Nexus 6. So in terms of "3rd parties" outside of Google, Moto should be getting the updates for L out the quickest (helped by their stock approach as well).
It's still A "Motorola" phone. Parent company changing doesn't suddenly change that.

You must be joking right ?
Motorola - An iconic brand with it's own character.
What I want and expect is it remains Motorola forever. I bought my last Moto when company was dying, it was an Atrix 2 which is still my primary and only phone I have been using since more than 2.5 years. That time I though it may turn out my last Moto. But I am feeling so glad and lucky that company bounced back so strongly and today I have few great choices as my upgrade options. :good:
Though would have liked to see ownership of the company would have remained in the hands of Motorola itself or atleast in hands of Google.

LOL, truth is unless something truly game changing comes out of Android my next phone will be an iPhone, which is something I never thought I would say. I paused that thought when the Nexus 6 price dropped and bought one off of Amazon but couldn't bring myself to open the box and returned it. I figure if I truly hate the 6s I can easily sell it and recoup most of my money something I can't easily do with an Android phone.
i have a nexus 5x preordered. 32gb quarz color. i might miss the moto stuff but whatever, its about time i guess.
In hindsight if I had known, how much trouble the upgrade to lollipop would cause (all file permissions where messed up and fixing them was a pain in the ***), I wouldn't do it again. I already forgot, what noticeable improvements came with lollipop. Wasn't my phone a little smoother? Can't remember.
Bottom line: i don't care for any updates anymore.

Oh good grief! Motorola hasn't come out and said that Marshmallow wouldn't be out for the XT1060 have they? I know it's not on the list right now but I wouldn't say that they broke their promise until we see something definite that Marshmallow will not come out for our phones.
If this is the biggest thing you all have to worry about, I guess you have it pretty good. Personally, I like the Lollipop on the XT1060 for the most part and am willing to stay with this phone until I find something else that I like better.

Lol that's the price we pay for having an Android phone.
If you think it's bad on Android, you'll laugh at how often the Windows phones get updated (never).
No, it was not that bad with my old nexus.
I have to admit one thing: my moto x 2014 is by far from a pure hardware point of view the best smartphone I ever had.
But from a pure software point of view I'm overly deceived. Moto has made a lot of publicity of themselves arguing they are the best at providing updates in a small timeframe, but they never respected their own claims.
If in future I have to choose between an OK smartphone with stellar software support and a stellar smartphone with no guarantee of software updates ( especially monthly security updates ) I will for sure choose the first one.
But yes, other than that Moto X Force looks good
