Ascending sound fix needed - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tried unlocking my bootloader & it won't unlock keep getting timeout message, won't get me the token so I've given up with rooting for the time being after trying different methods.
I've managed to update from 5.1.1 to latest security patch Feb 6.0 stock recovery.
My question, is there anyway through Terminal/Adb running a completely stock Moto Style can I get rid of the ascending ringtone/notifications command line so I just have instant sound, I've missed so many important messages/emails due to not hearing it
Sent from my XT1572 using XDA Free mobile app

I hate ascending ringtone, it does it to alarms and other notifications. There is an app in the play store but it only worked so so and it didn't fix it for notifications and alarms. I was hoping they fixed/gotten rid of it in 6.0.1 but I haven't heard this yet. My understanding is that it is a Motorola thing and a lot of people complain about it. They can leave it if they want, but give us a toggle for it please.

I am extremely annoyed by this "stock google" limitation!!!!

How on earth can I make a "calls only" profile on my phone? I have tried half a dozen apps and its laughable how such an open phone is unable to achieve what should be a basic feature.
As you would know google merged the notification and ringtone volume as one in ICS which is the most dumb **** move google could have made. Now most of the profile apps on the playstore can do nothing about this.
I tried profile scheduler and it can only handle the sms app notification volume. I tried elixir 2 and even though it says that it can unlink notification and ring volume but it does not work for me. Then I finally found an app that actually managed to do it! But guess what? It has a horrible bug of randomly deactivating my data connection and I have to restart my phone. I really dont know what its doing to cause that.
Now I could just manually set the notification tone to silent but actually that doesnt work either since many apps and services have their own notification tone settings which cannot be overrided by the system setting.
So does ANYONE have a workable solution for me? My phone is rooted but I aint installing a custom rom just for this. Samsung touchwiz phones still have separate volumes guess samsung wasnt as stupid as google.
I dont think I'll be buying a nexus phone next if I cant find a solution to this soon. Really sad such a petty issue has to ruin it.

Hmm you're out of luck if the apps don't cut it for you. If you're rooted then flash a ROM....you are missing out on truly useful features not present on stock. If you're not into flashing on principle, get over it if you don't flash due to uncertainty then read up on it, super simple.
Some top ROMS are Slim Bean, Rascarlo, plus many others.
Good luck

Have you tried this?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=Orion.Soft
Custom roms got you covered though, don't know of any without unlinked volumes.
Why not flash a custom rom, you have a nexus, I don't think it gets any easier to flash a rom on phone. People make these roms and make features that don't and won't exist on a stock rom.
I am using baked black bean 6. It has the option to unlink call and notification volumes. Also it supports profiles. I think it's worth trying a custom ROM when you need additional features.

Yes thats actually the one that worked but had the data connection bug. I have emailed the dev and he has no idea why that would happen.
On the nexus S I will install custom rom if I am unable to find a decent solution. However I dont know if I'll want to buy the nexus 4 knowing that I would need custom rom for basic functionality so I am gonna try to make this work out without custom rom.
I agree this is dumbest thing Google has done in Android recently. On gingerbread, i had always rocked stock rooted, or something close like pete's bugless beast. On a fundamental level they need to change this, but I think that it's probably motivated from their desire to unify the tablet and phone platforms.
I'm on CM10 now, and have been since ics linked the volumes. It irritates me to no end that every month or so, my phone slows to a crawl and i have to do a full wipe and re-flash. Never had to do this on stock gb. But that's a whole different issue.

yup, android is very flexible in regards to flashing
you truly are missing out on a lot of other features. and you necessarily have to give up a lot of space/speed for it, some roms are dedicated to keeping things as much stock as possible, just because of that, they mostly contain the "stock" rom with exactly those features you want and in other cases you can just go with a rooted/deodexed rom and flash just those mods that you need. in most cases, the latter has almost no effect on performance
Why don't you go flash a custom rom? Sorry but Google has millions of customers and it can't please everyone. There's a very fast way to fix all of this, and that is just simply flashing a custom rom. These roms are very stable and nothing is going to happen. Since you're already rooted why don't you give it a shot and then come back here and complain if it doesn't work?

[Fix] Voicemail Notification (CDMA)

Just thought I'd throw this out there for anyone who's not getting notifications for their carrier voicemail. This fix worked for me and was a little hard to find. It should work for all CDMA phones (the string is not present, nor is a similar string on my T-Mobile SGS3). I take no credit for the actual fix. Requires root (does that even need to be said?).
Possible fix:
There could be a string missing in a settings file, /data/data/com.android.phone/shared_prefs/com.android.phone_preferences.xml
<string name="vm_number_key_cdma">##########</string>

Where ########## is your 10 digit phone number.
If you just edit that file (make a back up if you want to be safe) and add the line above somewhere between the <map> </map> XML tags, replacing the ########## with your phone number (no dashes or parentheses), then reboot, you should be getting notifications again.
Check out the source for more info.

The file doesn't appear for me even if I leave a voicemail

Scratch that. I find the file but a reboot doesn't get the voice mail icon to come back. If I go into the file again it says there is a voice but no notification pops up.

Has anyone figured out this issue yet? I tried the suggested fix above but it doesn't work for me either. I'm running 4.2.2 Carbon ROM on a Samsung Fascinate and do not get any notifications when I have voicemails. I've searched around this forum and google as well and there isn't too much information on this issue. Some say it's a known issue in all recent 4.2.2 ROMs, some say it's in all AOSP-based ROMs, etc... Anyone out there know of a fix?

I have had the issue for as long as I can remember it seems, no matter the rom. Its to the point I expect it and/or just have learned to accept it. I don't get that many lately for it to be a huge huge deal besides the whole job hunting process lol Tried prolly most things things have popped up over time but no solid fixes. With messing around I can get it to pop up a few times and it is always delayed or random when it does and it will also stick in the status bar for a bit even after clearing any unread till it randomly goes away or I clear the responsible/corresponding system apk's data. and that be the most I ever see of it, a downfall i guess & either you deal with it or your don't I suppose. Your not alone brotha lol

Voicemail indicator worked in 4.1.x, but broke in 4.2.x. there is only one ROM - GEE-WIZ, where the dev actually figured out what was wrong and fixed it. It is now my daily driver, although I miss some of the AOKP features. None of the other developers have picked up the fix and implemented it in their ROMs. The voice mail indicator problem has to do with the code looking for a SIM card and not finding it. Eveyone else seems content with using google voice as a work around, I don't find that a good solution, except when I want a few laughs from bad transcriptions.
I just wanted to say that this actually sort of got notifications working for me again. I'm using a Droid Incredible 2 running PAC 4.2.2, and ever since upgrading to it, I would not receive voicemail notifications.
I made the appropriate change to the file, rebooted, left a voicemail in my box, rebooted again, and I had a notification saying that there was a message waiting!
The reason I say "sort of working" is because I didn't receive the notification while waiting directly after leaving the message. Normally, I'll receive a new voicemail notification within a minute of one being left. But, I suppose this is better than nothing.
If any new developments or fixes are found, please update this thread!
Its still broke. Voicemail notification has always come up after a reboot but that is of no use. This is not an improvement.

[Request] Show sent SMS time rather than received time, anyone with quick fix?

hi there,
i am looking for a modded SMS app that shows sent time rather than received time, but i am not looking to put up a new rom altogether. have root but on stock rom - debloated.
is that possible at all?
thanks
Gabrio
Stock SMS app shows you what time you sent an SMS
Unless you're looking to see what time the other party sent it? Not sure how any app would know that, as the phone only knows what time it arrived, it has no control or knowledge over the other parties phone or carrier, only it's own
yes that's what I meant... say I had phone in airplane mode, someone txted me overnight, then the phone will show the time I turned the phone on as "received" time, which is not that meaningful.. I know there's a few roms out there which have this modded but I don't want to put up a new rom altogether, so was wondering if there's an "easy" fix, I remember with my old galaxy s2 that all I had to do was to modify a bunch of files in the sms.apk and that was it - oh and I also increased number of TXT before the annoying conversion to MMS, now we have not to send more than 3 otherwise it converts, very annoying... would love to get rid of that too!
thanks
Ah right, so it will be pulling the info from the carrier as to what time it arrived on their server from the other party
yep - I know there are roms such as Phoenix Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2741302 that have that included and modded... or tweaks from some time ago such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2178895 but I couldn't find anything specific for the S5 on JB 5.0 stock that's what I am running.... JUST for the SMS part... if anyone has something, I would be really grateful!, thanks!
Can't you extract the SMS apk from one of the ROMs that has that ability?
hmhmmh that might work but then I don't know if that will work since there's that odex/deodexed... I am not 100% sure it will work

How can I tie the ringtone and notification sound together?

I recall this option on my rooted S3 (6.0 ROMs) in settings, so raising/lowering ringtone volume would be for both ringtone and notification. Any way to do this on S7 Edge (stock)? I have no intention of rooting, if that's the only way that's fine at least I'll know. Thanks!
Anyone

I want this too but unfortunately they haven't implemented that feature in the stock os. I have dug around the menus to make sure, definitely not in there. I think the only way would be to root but then you'll have to find a rom that has it unless there is a root application that can change that particular setting.
It is annoying but I don't think it's worth rooting over. I have a rule of five to justify rooting. So if there's five things that really annoy me about a phone rom which I can change through rooting then I do it but I haven't had any major issues with the stock rom yet.
Wish I could've been more help.

Amazfit - no notifications from phone

Got an AmazFit A1602 watch, Chinese ROM. Set it up, updated it, played with PACEified for a few seconds (hadn't figured out how to OTA the stock ROM yet, so it hung-up when screen went off), went back to Chinese ROM, OTA'd it, reset it in English, and that's where I left it for about a week. Worked great, loved the watch. But, coming from a Gear Live (that wore out), I can't stand not getting my notifications on the watch...
So I dug further into it. Replaced the Chinese ROM with the English ROM - now it thinks it's an A1612 PACE. Kewl. Whatever. App works, everything works, repaired the recovery and OTA works (wellp, now I'm stuck on it, after finding the bootloader is now locked). But NOTIFICATIONS still don't work!
Tried it on a different device - my Nexus 7 tablet. Still no notifications.
Tried reinstalling, tried different app versions, tried everything I can find and think of. No. Notifications.
Do they even work for anyone else?
Another thread on the saga: https://www.reddit.com/r/amazfit/comments/61w4ga/most_notifications_not_coming_through_facebook
I might just offer "ad-free" for anyone that can actually help, throw a bounty out there and see if someone can help me. I usually end up asking the hard questions nobody can answer :fingers-crossed:
Probably you've tried this already but it's worth to repeat procedure.
After you paired the watch with your phone, you have to enable notifications in the app, choose witch notifications you want to allow/block and let the amazfit app to access notifications. Last part is usually under Android settings, security. Sounds complicated but it's good to have full control.
Notifications worsk perfectly for me.

Yep, that's the first thing I try - but I appreciate the reply/bump! I think I might throw that bounty out there (if legal to do so) - I'd throw $15 at this problem to get it fixed. Hopefully that's how the donate option works
I enabled notification access to Amazfit app in the Android settings. Under the "notifications" options in the app, I get a miles-long list of apps on the phone, but they are all under the option to "disallow app notifications" -- no apps appear at the top of the page under "Allow app notifications". Presumably the top section is for apps that have sent notifications.
I also "disable battery optimization" and allow contact access for the watch as well.
My phone is a Huawei Honor 5x (kiwi) running CM13 (20161223 nightly) - but also tried on the Nexus 7 (2013) tablet running stock OS, unrooted.
Each app on that list have a switch on the right to enable notifications and move it to the "Allow app notifications".
Sent from my LG-V940n using Tapatalk
Screenshots how should look like. Latest dev app does not have push notifications but has another tab. Of course, watch must be connected to the phone to be able to receive notifications. But that's obvious Btw, I didn't touch batter optimization.
Btw, Frys still has the watch on $30 off.
p.s.
Now I see that you're my neighbor

That was it!! Goddamn Chingrish... to me, it looked like that settings page was divided into two - apps that had sent notifications in the past, which I could turn off "allow notifications", and apps that hadn't sent notifications and I could "disallow" them from ever doing so. The Chingrish part is that they should be saying "Allowed" and "Disallowed" notifications... not "allow"/"disallow". It simply doesn't make sense to divide them solely by their switch setting... and since I had no intention of disallowing an app's notifications, I never tried switching ones from the bottom! Also doesn't make a lick of sense to disable them all by default - easily seems like it's malfunctioning. I just went through and switched everything up to "allowed" like it is in Android Wear by default.
Wellp, I got a SMS buzz on my wrist for the first time, and everything is awesome now.

Just sharing my experience. My notifications stopped working and I went through all the above to no avail. Finally I realised I must have accidentally turned on Silent Mode at some point. It may help to check on your watch that Silent Mode is OFF

Gmail doesn't push notifications to watch
Hi all,
I m experiencing this issue and I really cannot understand what is going wrong and why it does it...i recently purchased amazfit stratos English version and I was not very satisfied with the notifications capabilities..i could only see the first email and read it all way down but if a second mail arrived I could only see the gmail logo and a number( indicating the number of the mails that I have) ..but wasn't able to read each message...very frustrating...same for other apps...Viber and line messenger if I receive more than one message I can only read the last one....so I decide to go with the watchdroid app for the phone and assistant for the watch... everything is running smoothly now,I can even reply to messages (for some reason only sms messages not Viber or line) BUT I do NOT receive my mails from gmail...something that with the amazfit app I could...well I could not read them if they were more than one but the push service was working...with watchdroid gmail push notifications do not work....any help would be appreciated guys!
Thanks in advance,
Stratos
