Hello i have a GEN 2 Sold with 2.2 BUT IT IS 2.3.5 now
and it's impossible to root i thinkĀ“
tried everything!!!
check my other thread too. And sorry for duplicate threads.
Can any one help me?!?!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319257
or to install a rooted custom rom, use one of amphoras' tpts, you could try his tpt helper app from the market, you want a gen2 image.bin tpt & a rom to install. you're actually on gen3 now if you installed stock 2.3.5, so you need to get back to gen2 to install most custom roms, you do that with a tpt, it'll wipe your phone, get you back to gen2 & install clockworkmod.
So i need to do a GEN 3 to GEN 2?
And is mine GEN 2 STOCK?
@wbaw
Do u think Gingerbreak will work?
Solved problem. did make a GEN 3 tpt. and it was pre installed with CWM. without any ROM.
SO i installed cyanogenmod. but it had no signal. re flashed again no signal so i did flash 2.3.5.bin and now i got the stock rom.
Wrong post. Very sorry.
Hello everyone!
I rooted my Moto X Pure and I'm trying to figure out how to take the new Moto X Pure OTA update for Marshmellow. I have the TWRP recovery installed and the bootloader as well. I also have SuperSu installed. I'm still running stock Android but I have made a couple of database variable changes and a build prop change (Very minor). If someone can provide me instructions on how to proceed it will be completely appreciated.

I wrote this up a few weeks ago. Here is the linkhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/help/updating-to-mm-lp-moto-x-pure-t3270473
This is for the US Moto X Pure Edition, not sure if it would work for the Style or not. So if you own the Pure Edition then this should work perfectly for you.
will I be able to flash any ROMS that are for the Moto X Pure and not have any problems with apps that require root access?
Just got the phone couple days ago. Coming from an n5. I'm not new to the ROM scene, but been out of it for awhile.
I currently have pure Nexus in my n5. 3 years of custom settings will be hard to get rid of.
Features I'm wanting.
-Custom nav settings. Mainly swap back and recents.
-ElementalX kernel compatible ROM?
-A way to go back to non rooted, locked bootloader on a custom ROM after ROM settings applied? Not sure this is doable. I thought relocking the bootloader would erase everything?
-OMS with non rooted and locked bootloader?
Thanks for reading.

Nougat makes some of these impossible with stock. You can only relock the bootloader with a stock, untouched system and boot partition, so your last 2 questions are no, you can't.
The other two I don't know the answer to.
Although this device shares many common traits of Nexus devices, it is not one.
almost every nougat roms support ex kernel. and you do need to stay on custom to have all these features. u can install xposed framework but u still need bootloader to be unlocked and device rooted.
fyi- locking bootloader doesnt give u back your warranty
my moto g4 plus using stock ROM of nougat have an issue on rooting process. boot-loader unlocked. twrp installed. when install superSU or magisk all the process completed successfully. but cant boot into system. long pressing power button did nothing .
Did you flash a custom kernel like ElementalX before rooting? Attempts to root on the stock Motorola kernel can cause boot issues.
thanks

Hey, I also want to root my Moto g4 Plus. Can you please tell which version of TWRP, Magisk and Elemental X you used. It will be helpfull for me. Also, I have already installed Feb OTA. Have you already installed that or you were on dec OTA before root?

The set up that works for me is:
Shreps TWRP 3.1.1 32bit https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...covery-twrp-3-0-2-r3-moto-g4-g4-plus-t3494337
ElementalX 2.0
Magisk 16.0 (or 15.3)
This is on the Feb 1 2018 security patch, but the same set up worked on the Dec 1 security patch too.
