I just got my G4 (US991 running MM) a few days ago. Low headphone volume was crappy. I found a way to increase the volume using the built-in but hidden 32 bit Hi-Fi DAC controls. Using Nova, use the activity widget. Choose settings, then choose 32 bit Hi-Fi DAC. Be careful moving that volume slider, its very touchy and will get LOUD quick.
BTW, when choosing an activity, press/hold to launch the activity without actually linking that particular activity as the widget. This allows you to play around with activities faster without having to start with a new widget each time.
H815
It just opens sound & notification tab from settings :< H815 running v20d MM .
This is what it does on my uS991.

My H815 on MM 6.0 v20d briefly shows that settings page header but then closes and goes to the sound tab of the regular settings.
I can't found it, make a video of it please or be more specific.

I have the same thing, sound & notification.
Using Nova Launcher, on homepage, press/hold to add a widget. Choose the Nova Activity widget and place it on the homescreen. The activities list will automatically open to let you choose what activity that widget actually activates. Scroll down to settings, click on it and look for "32 bit Hi-Fi DAC" and click it. The widget will now be linked to this activity. YMMV.
I can now turn up the volume about half-way while listening to music because it actually gets really loud now. Rebooted and the setting stuck. Good luck peeps.
Guys guys. Plug headphones and play music. I got it. But the settings dont really change much Its nice to play with them tho Thanks OP
I finally found the "32 bit Hi-Fi DAC", but when I click, it send me to sound & notification, too bad, thank you.
Found it and it works , good find OP
Do the above steps and add the widget to home screen then plug in some headphones , play music and then click the widget , it does boost the volume quite a bit but I have Viper4Android installed so it might be because of that as to why my volume increases significantly.....

I use viper also. Most def. viper does such a good job. Viper + other sound mods. Are not good to run though. Can fry the voice coil in the speaker from to much boost. I dont use head phones i plug min in to my amp in my car and its to much sometimes with viper alone. Have u ever tried goin into settings in viper and setti g the ui to expert you get loads more options than when u first install it.
I've used Viper before. It was great. Tons of options available. I don't really care for super loud music. I just want to be able to adjust the bass levels so it sounds nice and deep but not boomy. Sometimes equalizers boost the higher frequencies as the bass and it's just boomy and terrible and makes me hate life. Lol. Best equalizer I used was DSPManager during the CM10 days. It made my bass super deep and clean without muddy mids or high frequencies. Perfect. I still keep my Samsung Fascinate as an MP3 player because of DSPManager and it's awesome sound.

I also found a screen mode option that offers, standard, vivid, and something else setting. Tried it, didn't see any difference. I was looking for a scaling option like I found on my S6. Darn.

Ls991 cant even find a dac option on nova.
Update guys: It doesn't seem louder anymore. Was good while it lasted. Sorry for getting everyone's hopes up.
While playing around with this though I noticed that the phone recognizes different devices. I've seen a headphone icon, a headset icon, and an auxiliary device icon pop up in the notification bar. I assume the DSP works differently with different devices maybe? I don't know.

As everybody knows, there are three types of feedback which the Epic delivers to users (aside from the blinking light). They are: Silent (no sound or vibrate), Vibrate, and Sound.
Currently, the settings only allow for: Silent Mode, Vibrate Mode, or volume mode with vibrate.
This makes sense to me but what doesn't make sense is why we cant have all three in one option. We have to go into settings and change them every time we want to go from silent mode (then can add or take away volume by clicking side button) to vibrate mode (then can add or take away volume by clicking side button).
Instead the MOD I'm requesting is to enable the sound up side button to go from:
Silent to Vibrate to Sound Up
and Sound Down button to go from:
Sound to Vibrate to Silent
Is this possible?
Would any other users like this feature?
Thank you for reading and posting!
(Currently using Midnight ROM 4.2 BYOR)
If nobody comes up with a mod, you may consider using something like Widgetsoid to place a homescreen widget which allows you to switch between Sound/Vibrate/Silent.
i could swear this was how it worked when i was on DI18 Eclair. Ever since i upgraded to EB13 Froyo, theres a new button for silent/vibrate in the notifications dropdown next to wifi, bluetooth, gps, 4g.
now when i use the volume buttons it goes straight from sound on, to which ever combination of silent/vibrate is configured in the settings rather than toggling between vibrate and sound as well.
i have resorted to using widgets to quickly switch, but would love a mod to let the vol buttons do what im sure they used to do... (maybe im crazy and they never did this though)
I use extended controls. On top of the standard controls from the power widget that's our loaded into the rom I had an option for silent and vibrate and a couple other things. Honestly this widget is alot easier then the pull down cause off all the stuff I use it for

I would definitely like to see a mod to bring this functionality back. It is ridiculous to change something as fundamental as this, every phone i've had knew the difference between silent and vibrate and both were easily accesible.
Adding a widget works, but it is a clunky work-around and not everyone wants a huge power control widget or an extra button on their homescreen.
*Removed Link*
is there anyway to change brightness without minimizing application or going to setting menu or use widgets. Tab 2 has this cool notification bar from where you can do lots of things like changing turning off/on gps,wi-fi,sync, change volume and brightness (manually) or set auto. And it does it without interruption.. very useful! On Nexus 7 it's a whole different thing.. i use power toggles from playstore and it has that option to put the toggles in the notification bar.. it works but not the way i would like it to.. Like for example i'm watching youtube and i want to bump up the brightness i pull down notification bar select brightness slider and youtube stops the video.. now after i adjusted the brightness i have to click on play icon sometimes the video resumes sometimes it reloads or rebuffers.
You get the point.. Thanks!
Try Widgetsoid.
It might work better for you than power toggles

nope the same thing.. i guess it's JB itself! No matter what i try it does the same thing stops(pauses) youtube. I wish youtube had those gesture controls like in MX player or BS player or basically any other third party video players!
Notification Toggle. You can have access to all the settings like WiFi, GPS, brightness, sound etc. all in the notification drawer.

yeah i've tried it not exactly what i'm looking for.. I want application that would do it seamlessly without any interruption. Just like volume.. when press volume rocker the volume control pops out over playing video you can still use the rocker or you can slide the volume on screen while your video plays I want the same thing with the brightness ..
I just use Jkay's deluxe settings. It integrates the settings in the notifications panel

What you want is display brightness ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.DisplayBrightness&hl=en ). It makes swiping your notification bar adjust brightness. Go through the settings to get it like you want. Hope that helps.

This actually is a feature inside deluxe settings.
Does anyone have any insight what to edit in build.prop to remove the way the volume adjusts when receiving calls, notifications? As we all know its starts very quiet sometimes hearing nothing
Set my alarm this morning almost missed it as it was really low but volume was high in settings
Don't really want to download an app for it, would rather adjust and test it myself

Don't think you understood what I'm saying buddy, the volume check was already raised to highest point in the standard settings, I want to increase the incremental volume at root/build/development stage so it starts at 100% as opposed to starting at 15% then raising up slowly to about 70%, this is why short ringtones, notifications & alarms don't get heard
I read somewhere that the way the code is written the speaker goes into sleep mode??? Unsure if there's any truth in it or how it would do so but I'd like to turn it off or modify it and then test it to see if it works.
Any help peeps?

I don't know about a build.prop edit for it, but I know that if you used Xposed you should be able to find a setting to fix it
Everything i can find regarding this says your probably out of luck. Other solutions to this problem don't seem to work (Wanam, Dont Increase Ring )
This was implemented due to the device having front facing speakers, moto didnt want to cause hearing damage if you got a call while pretending to be on a call.

Interesting idea about the reason behind the "feature". Is this just an educated guess, or did the info come from Moto?
(I wouldn't think there are that many people pretending to be on calls, but maybe I'm living in a bubble. I also never would have predicted the selfie phenomenon.)
This file is one of the culprits in all the most recent Moto phones. This built-in feature of ascending ringtone is stupid. Moto calls it a safety feature to attenuate the sounds. Sounds great in theory. Poorly implemented. Wish they would just get rid of it. Seems only Moto phones have this "amazing feature"....*cough büllsh*t cough*
My Nexus6 has same problem. You miss many notifications because the first X.milliseconds is muted/attenuated.
It may also be adding to the crackling noise MANY people are having with ringtones and notifications. Apparently there is a confirmed fix in the next update. However, I'm certain the ascending ringtone will not disappear and will continue to annoy many. A huge oversight IMO

This is right. If you're rooted you could make a backup and remove the file. To be safer you could just put zeros for all the values. That leaves the file intact.
One of the things I was missing w/my S7 Edge due to the lack of root was using Xposed to avoid the high volume warning that annoyingly appears and interrupts increasing the volume after connecting to a Bluetooth device. My wife and son also wanted to never see that volume warning again.
My wife also wanted to also automatically turn off wi-fi when she arrived at work, and turn it on again when she left. (Privacy issue.)
I also wanted to set volume to mid-level for ringtones and notifications at work, then max them out again when I left.
We're doing all of above via Macrodroid, and it is such a delightfully well-designed app that I think it deserves some love.
There are a number of similar apps w/varying levels of complexity and capabilities. I own/use Tasker, for instance, one of the most powerful. The thing that makes Macrodroid stand out and why I like it so much is it's excellent designed, so easy to use interface, and the fact that it's powerful enough" w/out overwhelming w/options. Translated - I installed it on my wife's and son's phones and both were setting up their own macros in just a few moments w/little or no assistance from me.
Definitely worth a look if you'd like to automate some tasks....free for up to five macros, which should be enough for most casual users. Just not seeing that damn volume warning should make many happy enough to buy the full app even if you don't need to.
EDIT: See my post below for screen shots and steps for the macro to set volume to max on Bluetooth connect. Once you do that you won't have to manually increase BT volume on your phone when connecting to a BT device, so you won't have to see the stupid BT volume warning. You can then control volume normally via your BT device (car head unit, BT headphones, etc.).
Victory.
Enjoy.
For the BT warning, can you describe what you did with Macrodroid to solve the issue? Thx.
i cant seem to find a way to disable the volume warning with this app
The voume warning only appears once every reboot. Not that annoying really

You avoid getting the warning by using Macrodroid to set media and BT phone volume, etc., to max when you connect to a BT device. Since that is done in the background by Macrodroid at connect you won't need to increase volume, so you won't have to see/deal with any volume warning on the phone.
See screen caps.

Yes, must agree. Brainless monkeys cannot conceive situations that they themselves don't experience, and hence we get these nanny state brain dead quick fixes to complex problems. When I am driving and try to increase the volume through my car radio, I cannot because of this stupid message. I often have to increase and decrease the volume to compensate for the broadcast volume changes during adverts. It is legal for me to get my phone out and use it while driving. We are seeing the results now of the dumbed down education systems in the donkeys creating rules.

Got me on that one? I've used Dolby Atmos on other devices (Rooted) and it did the same thing? I think what when songs are playing, they'll register higher than half way and you kind of go off of that?
I've never really liked setting up Dolby Atmos, but once it's set up it sounds really good.

did you finally figure out how to keep it from sliding back down I am having the same exact issue.
Hi,
I have the same problem and done an extensive research about it on the web. There are 10 kinds of people: One who can set the equaliser settings like they want (even above the magical 50% mark) and those who experience the problem, that the sliders slide back to 50%. I belong to the latter ones and I'm really pissed off about that, because I bought the Phone because of its famous sound qualities and while holding the finger on the equalizer the sound IS amazing. But I'm not willing to do this every time I play music, so any ideas how to solve this issue?
Greetings,
Martin

Basically you don't have to use Atmos if you want good sound quality. Atmos is only made to be used with the speakers. It uses the secondary DAC, which is worse overall.
If you want good sound quality install Viper4ARISE.
P.S. If you don't mind a very high noise floor you can use V4A+Atmos+AK4490 patch together on a custom ROM. It's probably the best way to listen to MP3s even though the noise floor might be somewhat high.
