My Droid turbo 2 went through the wash. I put it in rice for a couple days then sat it in front of a vent and hairdryer on cool. After starting it up it seemed to work, but later the vibration motor, speaker and flashlight don't work. took apart the phone as far as separating the back and front frames. All of those components are on the back frame. I cleaned all the contacts with alcohol, but it still does the same thing, works, but intermittent. Anything know what else I can try?

2 weeks ago it was raining so much that the whole parking was under water.
I jumped to my car and went home. Halfway I discovered that my phone was missing, so I went back and found it on the parking, laying under water for half an hour, 10 cm deep.
When I picked it up, even it was still under water the lock screen went on.
At home, after disassembly the phone, only under the battery cover where a few drops of water, futher the phone was dry. Even the headphone and micro-usb are no leaking path.
I use it now again for 2 weeks and it still works fine, without any trouble.
Bravo for HTC to make a phone, more than spashproof

Yes, htc is the shizz! I just brought mine back to life and everything works after dropping it on the deep side of my pool. On cases like mine, taking it apart right away and putting it on a bowl of uncooked rice for a week(just to be sure) and it will dry it completely!
Alas mine wasn't so lucky, fell in a puddle as I got into the car, grabbed it out, turned it off and removed battery, sim and SD, wiped as much water off as I could with tissues.
Left it for 2 days to dry, nada. Might be that the impact with the ground (wasn't that deep a puddle) killed it.
Embarassingly and luckily I'd only taken insurance out on it that lunchtime!
Wow, that's pretty impressive for a phone. Touchscreen phones are usually prone to most types of damage, but it's good to see being fully submerged in water didn't completely disable the phone.
You lucky guy
Hmmmmmm
I'm a little dubious... I spilled a really small amount of water from a glass on the bedside table onto my HD2. Even though I immediately jumped out of bed, cursed and wiped it dry, the water seeped into it. I could see the water in the LCD (it looked like a shadow that spread across the screen slowly over days). Two weeks later, the digitizer stopped responding to my touch even though the LCD itself still seems to work. I've hard reset the handset and that hasn't helped. I also tried heating up the unit a bit (without the battery) to try to have the water evaporate from it, but that hasn't helped either.
I took the phone into O2 who had their people look at it. Ultimately they said it was out of warranty because of water damage and that I could purchase a replacement (since I don't have insurance on it).
I'm considering trying to replace the digitizer, but it sounds like a lot of fuss and ultimately the phone won't be under warranty.
Annoying... I miss my HD2. I'm stuck with a Motorola Razr at the moment.
You can drop the phone in anything... aslong as the water does not have minerals that are conductive or prone to errosion it will be fine
[OP] just happen to have some clean water falling from the sky
I had a Blackberry Storm that once got submergered in baby oil.. It stopped working and I left it alone for A month or so...One day i picked it up and it started working... The LCD was messed up with Oil in it but other then that it worked...I opened it up and there was baby oil everywhere.... Got some distalled water and let it sit for a day or so to get it clean then replaced the LCD and it worked like new.
Distalled Water is H20 with notthing in it... As clean as water can get... Sine it has no conductive minerals you can drop a phone or PSP and it will work just fine.
Really?
I thought water itself was corrosive to metal? I can't imagine that the rainwater mentioned in the first post would be as clean as distilled water...
Anyway, I was wondering do you guys have have any suggestions? I have this lovely phone that boots up and I can't do anything with.
Should I just wait it out and see if it starts working again.

i dropped my Samsung into the sea after only 2 days from buying it . went the technician said that the board is bad and need to replaced . it is very expensive .
can i buy cheaper board from anywhere online ??
From the best of my experience with things like this, you are probably better off just buying a new phone than trying to replace the board. Isn't exactly an easy swap.
Should have took it apart and put it in a bowl of rice, the rice absorbs the moisture and if your lucky the phone will survive

I don't think that would work with sea water, the water would be absorbed, but you'd get salt deposits left behind.
check if you can claim it on your household insurance.
Exactly, the rice trick would most likely not work due to the presence of salt in water.
Oh too bad. :-(

And since salt water is alot more conductive than regular water you most likely have something fried

One last resortis to remove battery and rinse phone in distilled (mineral free) water then dry totally in silica gel or rice, maybe remove back plate whilst drying, for a couple of weeks, then try, but only as a last resort!

Ultrasonic cleaning might help, however chances are very low.
Today, my Samsung Galaxy S I-9000 got dropped in approximately 2 feet of sea water, at the beach. My phone was dead.
Took battery out plus SIM & SD card didn't seem wet, card contacts were dry
battery was dry. What happened was sea water went into the circuit board through the headphone jack. I took my phone completely apart underneath the circuit board was 1 drop of water, but lots of salt on the metal parts, grabbed a Q-tip and rolled it around the back of the board, let it dry under a halogen lamp for aprox 30 mins, put it all back together and I could not believe it phone booted up normally tested all features wifi, bluetooth cameras, barcode scanner and of course the phone. One thing is that there is a water marker behind the plastic case by the headphone jack there is a small white square that turns purple when it gets wet.
anyhow I'm happy my phone is back to normal. Antenna seems to work better to as usually I only get 1-2 bars of signal, now getting 2-3 bars.
I dropped my phone in the toilet last night. I immediately pulled out the battery and dried the exterior as much as I could and under the battery compartment.
Most people put thier phone in a bag of rice and wait for it to dry and hope for the best.
If you can't wait 48 hours to get your phone to dry and you're not afraid of taking apart small electronic assemblies. This is the way you wanna go. Plus you have the comfort of knowing that Your phone is completely clean and dry before you turn it back on.
This morning I went online to find disassembly instructions. I used this video: http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Sprint-Samsung-Epic-4G-Galaxy-S-SPH-D700-Take-Apar-p/taprtvdo029.htm
This video helped incredibly for disassembly. I would have destroyed my phone were it not for this. So I took the phone all apart according to the video. Dried as much as I could with a cloth and blew all the parts out with some canned air duster. I have hot air heat in my house so I put all the parts on a rag and put them on top of the air register with a box over the top to trap some of the warm air to accelerate the drying process. I let the parts dry out for about 6 hours with this air register deal. Then I reassembled the phone. There was no video for reassembly so I had the to play the video from the end in 30 second bites to make sure I got all the connections back correctly.
There was one part where the ribbon cable attaches to the led screen which I screwed up. The connectors actually have tiny little lockdown clips which weren't shown in the video. In the video they just pulled the ribbon out of the connector without ever unlocking the tiny levers.
So I had to disassemble the phone and reassemble it again, because the screen wouldn't come back on. I got it all back working again the second time around.
I had purchased this phone on ebay and it was in excellent condition when I bought it. But, when I opened this thing up there was noticeable corrosion on the circuit board which leads me to believe this thing took a bath before I bought it. So I brushed off the corrosion with a soft new toothbrush before i put it all back together and the circuit board looked brand new.
I know this is a long post but I'm hoping that someone will find this in a search someday and it'll help them out.
This is why I'm going to buy samsung again

Have to say thank you very much... wasn't paying attention and my 17 month old took my phone and put it in a glass of water!!! Went to the video you linked and got it taken apart. Dried the way you specified and now all is well!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much! Probably would've been without a phone for a bit if it wasn't for this!

Hi,
I accidentally dropped my cell in water, touch sounds and ear piece stopped working but i blowed some air in headphone jack so it started working. But i think it will give some problem in future as water makes its way inside everything.
Any idea how can I do some proactive steps like using hair drier or apply some heat blow????
DUDE. You should put it in a sock full of uncooked rice or bigas over the night. That's the best way to drain the water as uncooked rice absorbs water.

I dropped my old phone in water once.
I opened the back, took the battery out and put everything in rice.
A few days later it started working again.
With the Nexus 4 however, since it is completely closed, it may be a harder decision to make what to do.
I think things like a hairdrier or excessive heat may damage the phone if not done properly. Rice actually imbibes the water.

Take it apart and rub all the circuit boards with rubbing alcohol, that's your best bet, I saw in another thread where it fixed this guys phone

Long story short... My little brother spilled a cup of milk on my phone. ?*
At first, both of my speakers seemed to work, just little distortion from being wet, nothing major. I left the phone upside down after drying it off. Come the next day, the top speaker stopped working, but the bottom one works fine. I can't hear anyone unless I put them on speaker, so I checked with Google and my device is well out of warranty, since I pretty much ordered it around day 1.
I haven't yet to contact Huawei, I probably should, but I've went on and ordered this piece here...
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/401176645698
Bottom line... Does anyone have any experience with the teardown of a 6P and know if it will fix the issue, or should I not be stubborn and contact Huawei? ?
Thanks
It will almost certainly fix the issue but the speaker from this seller isn't great quality. My top speaker had distortion after a spill and I ordered a replacement from the same ebay seller. I ended up carefully cleaning up my original speaker with a q-tip and cleaned up the grill while it was apart. Your speaker may need replaced though since it's not working at all. Or maybe the connections to the motherboard are just dirty. Have some thermal compound on hand the replace the old stuff when you remove the motherboard. And test it out before you put the back cover back on.
Don't understand completely, but even looking at the motherboard, I couldn't tell if there was something wrong.
I've replaced the speaker, but the sound coming from the top is super dim. I can't think of what the problem may be whatsoever. [emoji21]
Might take another look, but taking this this was a nightmare(pretty much the first part). Using guitar picks and whatnot just didn't work, but an X-Acto knife worked no problem.
