i dropped my Samsung into the sea after only 2 days from buying it . went the technician said that the board is bad and need to replaced . it is very expensive .
can i buy cheaper board from anywhere online ??
From the best of my experience with things like this, you are probably better off just buying a new phone than trying to replace the board. Isn't exactly an easy swap.
Should have took it apart and put it in a bowl of rice, the rice absorbs the moisture and if your lucky the phone will survive
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
I don't think that would work with sea water, the water would be absorbed, but you'd get salt deposits left behind.
check if you can claim it on your household insurance.
Exactly, the rice trick would most likely not work due to the presence of salt in water.
Oh too bad. :-(

And since salt water is alot more conductive than regular water you most likely have something fried

One last resortis to remove battery and rinse phone in distilled (mineral free) water then dry totally in silica gel or rice, maybe remove back plate whilst drying, for a couple of weeks, then try, but only as a last resort!

Ultrasonic cleaning might help, however chances are very low.
Today, my Samsung Galaxy S I-9000 got dropped in approximately 2 feet of sea water, at the beach. My phone was dead.
Took battery out plus SIM & SD card didn't seem wet, card contacts were dry
battery was dry. What happened was sea water went into the circuit board through the headphone jack. I took my phone completely apart underneath the circuit board was 1 drop of water, but lots of salt on the metal parts, grabbed a Q-tip and rolled it around the back of the board, let it dry under a halogen lamp for aprox 30 mins, put it all back together and I could not believe it phone booted up normally tested all features wifi, bluetooth cameras, barcode scanner and of course the phone. One thing is that there is a water marker behind the plastic case by the headphone jack there is a small white square that turns purple when it gets wet.
anyhow I'm happy my phone is back to normal. Antenna seems to work better to as usually I only get 1-2 bars of signal, now getting 2-3 bars.

Hi folks!
Just wanted to post this, as it really surprised me.
I went to a swim the other day (about 2 weeks ago) and forgot, that I had my HD2 in my Pocket.
It was about 0.5 hrs under water. Afterwards I yelled... then took out the battery and tried to dry it with a hairdryer.
It did not help. It stayed dead (The paper indicator are in a bright pink now)
Then about 1 week later I finally found the time to buy a new battery. I put it in and then... it worked.
After about 5 or 6 hrs using time, the last bit of water in the screen (a nice 3D effect ;-) dryed and I have absolutely no difference whatsoever. Working like a charm, no problem.
Maybe it helps so.
JoC
lucky you ;-)
Wow, happy you. Don't try this at home
lol, how many hd2's have been sold? thats a one in that many chance occurance, and no mistake.
just wow
Wow I cant believe it still works. Id wanna shoot myself!
If you get your phone wet don't use a hair dryer to dry it coz it overheats metal parts so the circuits melt.
In the words of homer simpson DOH! cant believe it worked after
as long as the internal complete dry, u shouldn't have problem to turn it back on.
The best thing you can do with a phone that has been for a swim (completely submerged in water) is to pull the battery off and soak it in isopropyl for 30 min or so. This should get the water out of it. Then leave it out to dry until completely dry.
Iven if a wet phone works initially, it generally wont be long before the components begin to corrode. The isophopyl will drive out any water and then completely evaporate.
u are one lucky guy lol
very very lucky, my friend sneezed on his and it stopped working...

Even better, since this phone already soaked for half an hour, with the battery out soak and then flush it well with distilled water to remove all the minerals that could cause corrosion, then stick it in a container of desiccant or rice if you're cheap
Alcohol especially soaked that long could be harsh on adhesives, surfaces and components in the phone.
Water itself isnt bad for electronics, its the minerals that are in the average tap, pool, beach, lake water. Distilled water has none of these minerals. Also any liquid tends to damage things like the camera and LCDs where it can get between the glass covering and LCD and backlight causing water spots to develop that are hard are just about impossible to remove.
If you do go the isopropyl route, id say do a very quick flush with it, and then make sure you are using 90%, usually in a red labeled bottle at the drug store, normal isopropyl is something like 65% alcohol and the remainder is water!
Really the best option for either route is to completely disassemble the phone then flush and dry while disassembled, but i know thats hard for some people to do without completely damaging it cosmetically. Remove things like the LCD, Camera, and speakers as these could be further damaged by subsequent soakings in either water or alcohol. These parts may need to be completely replaced depending on the existing damage
im supprised no one has asked this but,
HOW DO YOU GO FOR A SWIM WITH YOUR HD2??????
Did you go fully clothed or something? or do you normally keep your HD2 in the pockets of your swim shorts?
Me too
Hi,
I also took my leo swiming. Now loud speaker isnt working. can anyone help where i can get one?
Oooo, that's interesting...for your next test...microwave the phone for half an hour.
Yes.. I had it in my swim shorts. Before I went to the pool, I thought: "Be aware of that phone, don´t forget it in the pockets..." -> That didn´t help...
Yeah, our HD2 is a great phone.

Most importantly, turn it off and don't turn it on until you are sure it's completely dry
Silica gel is good. I've used alcohol to save an android phone in the past (HTC Magic) after it fell into a toilet (with the added bonus of sterilizing it!) but YMMV with the Note. I filled a quarter of a ziplock bag with 99% alcohol, dropped in my phone and shook it up. In theory, the fluid alcohol should replace the water molecules along the circuit board, but will evaporate at a much faster rate. After a few minutes, I removed the phone, gave it a good wiping and let it air dry for about 12 hours, then to be safe put it in a bag of rice (same effect as silica gel) for another day and a half. The phone still works.
But I'd recommend this as a last resort - try the silica gel/rice treatment first.
DO NOT PUT IT IN RICE!!! THATS A WIVES TALE! THE DUST FROM THE RICE WILL CAUSE ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS... I own a mobile device repair shop... turn it off first and foremost. Most electronics turn themselves off when they get wet... they don't get fried until you turn them back on. Take it apart as far as you can and sit it under a source of dry air (aka A/C) and leave it for ATLEAST 2 days (preferably a week). You need to take the back plate off. You can find tutorials on how to do it online.

Good Lord! It's surprising how many people have dropped their phones in the toilet! Needless to say, I am never touching someone else's phone again.
This one time a colleague of mine dropped his iPhone pouch in his pants at the toilet at work. He thought he lost it. All this time it was stuck to his butt crack & he found it the next day! LOL. I have never touched his phone since.
Lesson learnt... Think twice before bringing somebody else's phone to your face.
You should close shop.
I've done the rice thing at least 20 times with friends and family. Worked everytime .
Most important thing Is to be patience. Take battery and leave it alone for a few days.

YEEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHH
There are plenty of desiccants out there that work MUCH better than rice. I think most people preaching the rice route have only done it that way. They don't know if they'd just placed it anywhere with a supply of warm, dry air and waited, it would've worked just as well. If you want to use a REAL desiccant, you can get a product called DampRid at most hardware or grocery stores. It's a plastic tub with anhydrous calcium chloride in the bottom, underneath a perforated plastic plate. Just pop the phone in and snap the lid on.
Personally, I'd just disassemble as far as you feel comfortable and place in a warm dry area for awhile. A rinse with 99% isopropyl alcohol wouldn't hurt, either. But step one is always remove the battery first!

Remove the battery
I think only one poster implied it... REMOVE THE BATTERY as well as drying it out.
Even if you turn it off there is still current being drawn from the battery - else the power button would never work.
Then follow the excellent advice here - esp the alcohol route - and hope.
So my waterproof cover was closed and I was blasting music. My phone fell into a water stream I was washing dishes. Instantly my speakers started sucking and it hasn't been the same (about 30 mins ago). I thought this phone was water proof?!?! the rest of the phone is working fine. I opened up the case, no water inside. I am confused to say the least!
Do you think the speakers are screwed? I don't understand this. Its past my return period should have tried this the first day I got it!
The phone is water resistant, not waterproof. Also give it a little more time, the speakers will go back to normal.

There is water on the speaker membrane which distorts the sound and makes it quieter. Once it dries out you will be fine.

Nope, don't worry about it. Your speaker is still wet just give it more time.
Happened to me when I went in the shower, the earpiece where you listen to people on calls went really quiet and tinny for a few hours.

I have washed my phone several times. Also I have taken shots in a pool underwater. My phone doesn't have any problems. Remember you cant listen to music or talk on the phone immediately after you take it out of the water. The speakers are full of water and you have to give them some time.
It's good to know ! Thanks for the advice

Bros.. I did the same thing... I dropped it in the water. And now.... after @30 mins the speakers seem to be like... Soud like the membeane is punctured. Can that be? I gave it a lot of shooks and I 'smacked' it, so to say, with the back of it to my upper foot, so that the water could get out faster... Was that bad? confused:

I was sitting in water that was not even deep enough for the water to cover my legs playing with my grandson for about 20 minutes. I was told my the salesperson the Galaxy S5 was waterproof not water resistant for up to 30 minutes. No water depth was specified either. When I got out of the water, my phone would not turn on and I took off my otterbox because it had water in it. I then took off the back cover and found it had water inside it and on the battery. I have now had it drying out with the battery out for 8 hours. I tried it again and it still will not come on. I have to say though that it was starting to act up before it got submerged in water. The last several days it would not wake sometimes unless I took the back off and took the battery out and put it back in. The camera the last two days has been not wanting to work sometimes too. Or sometimes it would hang up. I have had this phone less than a year. I bought it right before the S6 came out. I think there is an issue with this phone besides the water issue. I have googled the other problems and they seem to be common with the S5.

there's got to be more to the story..this phone, if the back cover is completely snapped on + charging flap closed, can be fully submerged in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes with absolutely no harm done to the phone. That's the manufacturers specs.
Personally, I jumped into a lake off the back of a boat with the phone in my hand (while recording video) and proceeded to swim around for about 45 minutes with the phone in my hand the entire time.
I'd say the deepest it went was around 5 feet.
As you can imagine there was a lot of pressure hitting it in all directions due to the swimming aspect..anyway point being, nothing was damaged.

I dropped my S5 in the toilet yesterday and I quickly removed it from the toilet. The toilet was almost empty and only the top part of the phone where you put your earphones in got wet. I have put it in rice but it is still not working. The bottom part didn't have the safety guard on but it didn't get wet. Why is it not working?
let the s5 dry up completely before turning it on
The difference between water-resistant to water proof is that water proof is impervious to fluids which means it doesn't allow not even a drop of liquid into the phone which only works with waterproof cases.. Water-resitance which the galaxy s5 has can withstand the penetration of water. Keep in mind taking it for a dive has some risks.. Make sure to completely dry off the phone once your done using it in the pool. It's normal for the speaker to sound muffle for a couple of hours.. Same goes for the microphone.. You won't be able to call or use any app that uses the microphone once you take it out of the pool. Just wait for it to dry off in a couple of hours!
Cheers!

To be completely sure its dry take the phone apart and use a hair dryer.
Since i'm more of a realist than an optimist, i think your phone will survive this accident but have in mind that there is a chance of hardware failure in the future.
Water + electronics = corrosion

I think its completely dried but i read in forums that using hair dryer is not a good idea. I can't believe such a fragile phone like the nexus 4 survived it.I have my phone insured (yes water damage is included) but the guy at the service told me to wait for a month or two and afterwards get my touch and motherboard changed.

Using hair dryer could be the worst idea resulting in a solid burnt state motherboard.I think i should keep using it till it works fine and get it repaired under insurance if i face any problems
Same happened to me last autumn. What I did was; First hard shake to remove all the water, then immediately in a bag of rise, after 12 hours (I couldn't find a screwdriver earlier) I took it apart, disconnected the battery and left it in a bag of rise on a sunny window for another 48 hours. Checking the water damage indicators shows only little purple (not the whole, only small parts) on sim tray and usb, on the main board indicator is like new. After this whole procedure phone is working without a problem since then.
Hey all,
I dropped my V20 in a puddle on monday. It spent about 5 seconds submersed. I did remove the battery and put it in front of a airconditioner fan. When I got home I put it in a bag of rice. Today the screens backlight is messed up. The only area that lights up is the upper right. The rest is displaying info but no backlight unless I tap the phone hard on a flat surface. Then entire screen lights up for a while then it goes back to the upper right being lit up. I put it back in dry rice tonight. Everything on the phone works 100% but the backlight. What can be done. I dont want to buy another phone and I dont have insurance.
Leave in the rice bowl for another day and then check ✔

I found success a few years ago by shoving my phone with the battery cover and battery removed into the flexible tubing of a shop-vac (no attachments on the end) and running it for about an hour. I did this immediately after taking it from the toilet it dove in; this sucked the air through it and pulled internal water out, rather than blowing air on it and not bothering the internals much at all. After that I put it in rice for 2 days to try to make sure all the water is out and evaporated. From some of my friends in the electronics field I hear it's the corrosion that hurts more than the water, and turning on the phone before all water is removed is about the worst move you can make. This may be more useful info for next time, but wait until all drying techniques are employed before putting in the battery and turning on the phone/tablet. Good luck.
youll need to open it, and take denatured alcohol and clean all the parts using a tooth brush, each time u put battery in/charge ur ruining the board and circuitry, need to clean off the corrosion before causing more damaged, but sadly to say if its been a few days and been in rice/dried up when you open it i wouldn't be shocked you'll find the cable that connects ur screen is fried at the board side and wont be repairable.
I forgot about that. This phone is easy to take apart. Iirc, it's 16 screws or so.
