Keyboard lag - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi,
I seem to be experiencing keyboard lag specifically in WhatsApp.
Native as well as third party keyboards seems to display this issue. Clearing RAM also does not help.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Yeah seems to be an issue for me as well, the keyboard animation doesn't seem to keep up with my typing speed, I am a very fast typer, but this was never an issue with my old htc one m8, I have tried the stock as well as SwiftKey. Might try the Google keyboard even though I am not a fan of it, but it might be the only keyboard that can keep up with my typing speed.
And yeah, as expected the Google keyboard doesn't lag at all when typing really fast.

Same issue with Google keyboard as well. Ridiculous considering how it's maxed out in terms of hardware.

Not for me though, Google keyboard doesn't lag at all, animations sound typing etc is all on point with my typing speed, I typically go crazy on a new keyboard and type out a sentence really fast to test this, Google keyboard is the only one that has kept up.
But yeah I agree the fact that other keyboards lag is disconcerting, but it might be a problem with the keyboards and the apps themselves rather than Samsung hardware.

Figured it out thanks to a mac forum!
It was happening because I switched to condensed mode display. As soon as I reverted to standard display settings, the lag has disappeared.
Thanks for the input.

I have had this lag ever since I bought the device. On Google keyboard and all others that I have tried. No change when I switched over to condensed mode. When comparing it to the smoothness of my old z2, it is a joke.

Really? Switching back from condensed to standard display has completely solved the lag issue for me. I'm on stock Samsung keyboard now and it works great.

I had lag on the Samsung keyboard from day 1. Switched to Google keyboard helped. Have noticed no difference when I switched to condensed a few weeks ago. To see the fluidity in my old z2 is frustrating. Should have listened to my own advice and never bought a cr*psung.

Issues With Smart Keyboard Pro

Hi Guys,
Just got my S4 on Saturday, and I've been messing around with it, trying to get it set up in the way I like, and I'm enjoying it so far!
One issue I'm having, however, is with Smart Keyboard Pro. I've used this on all my previous Android phones are really enjoyed using it, but for some reason, it now seems to be missing letters, almost as if it's lagging behind somewhat. I've installed Swiftkey and this seems to work fine, as does the stock keyboard, but I much prefer to use SKP.
I initially thought it could be to do with AirView, but I've turned that off now and i'm still having the same problem...
Anyone else had this?

I've used SKP on the SII, SIII and now SIV (i9505) too and haven't noticed anything untoward with it ...
I used it on my S2 too, under various ROMs, ICS, JB... was brilliant! I've switched to swiftkey for the moment, i seemed to be having issues with the space bar... Might just be me but I've never had it before! I can't deal with the puncuation on swiftkey thought...
The stock keyboard is SwiftKey too I believe?

I think its based on swiftkey, but looks and feels very different. I think samsung have used the prediction engine from swiftkey or something...

I am having the exact same issue. I first thought it was a touch screen problem but then noticed, as you did, that it's unique to Smart Keyboard. Any updates?

No luck I'm afraid, I didn't get anywhere with it so made the switch to SwiftKey. Quite like it now I'm getting used to the layout!

Samsung Keyboard vs Swiftkey

So I have been having this problem as of late with Swiftkey (mainly after update to MDL) switching back to the factory Samsung keyboard. So I gave in and noticed that I actually get less lag and issues with the Samsung Keyboard. In fact my Quadrant scores have increased since I just use the Samsung keyboard.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is this just my imagination?

I use the release version of Swype and I've noticed it automatically switching back to the Samsung keyboard once in awhile too. Ended up finally deleting the Samsung keyboard. Never noticed any lag or issues with Swype though.
I'm using SwiftKey and haven't had any problems whatsoever.

I use the Kii keyboard
Love the 90s Good Times.
I've been using Swiftkey since the phone came out, and on all my other devices, haven't had a single issue or loss of any performance whatsoever!

The stock keyboard is SwiftKey but designed different for this phone. I love the stock layout but I cannot type on it whatsoever. I don't know if it's the smaller keys or what, I also have a very difficult time hitting the space bar on the stock keyboard or swype. So I use the SwiftKey keyboard from the Play Store.

I just noticed that with swift key I'm getting Quadrant scores of 126xx and with the stock android I'm getting Quadrant scores of 130xx. Not a huge jump or anything really writing home about I just didn't know if the Samsung keyboard was optimized for a lower memory foot print or if there was something else going on. I realize that the S4 comes with stock (based of swiftkey) and Swype, but I could download the already purchased swiftkey from the store and that had some of the features I liked (learning).
Like I said, nothing big I was just curious about that little jump in score.
Hello, Sorry if I post at the wrong place. Currently having swiftkey keyboard installed, however, even though it's setup to be the default keyboard, samsung keyboard being put back to default keyboard. anyone had this issue? thanks

Perhaps try un-installing the Samsung keyboard or install the Google keyboard as well. I have the Samsung keyboard installed as well as SwiftKey and the Google keyboard installed and SwiftKey serves as my default keyboard just fine right now. Try switching it back and forth a few times to see if that helps.
isn't Samsungs keyboard licensing SwiftKey?

Funny you said that... I had to freeze the Samsung KB in TB to keep it from constantly taking over as default from Swype.

Yes, they have a partnership going on for the GS4, but I still find Samsung's keyboard annoying as hell. Inserting common punctuations like comma or period is much longer in terms of the process. However, yes the predictive word is licensed.

Keyboard Lag

So I got my OP2 The other day and have been loving it but only problem is the keyboard has slight lag and its starting to drive me insane. I really didnt want to flash CM12 until the fingerprint sensor is working. Has anyone else noticed this or fixed it?
What keyboard are you using? I haven't noticed anything crazy with SwiftKey, but I'm not a very fast typer on the phone

Same here, I´m kinda disappointed, my Nexus 5 feels smoother than the OPT.... :crying:
Try this keyboard.

I don't know if it's the keyboard lag that you are experiencing or the actual overall sluggishness that the OPT has. Coming from the OPO this phone feels laggy by a few ms.

I came from a Z3 C and overall the phone feels sluggish / unresponsive. Kind of like a Samsung phone.
Definitely seems to be the OS all over; sluggish between apps, camera lag is massive taking photos. Don't get ghost touches that seemed predominant in the old issue with one plus 1 though. Seems updates are suppose to address these issues and have asked directly in a support ticket as my finger scanner suddenly doesn't work after being off for some time :/

same here...there's a lag in the keyboard...is something of software???...kernel???...or hardware?...if is harware i'm gonna sell this sh****.... i can't believe this!
Disable vibration in Google keyboard. Long press on the comma button, go to settings, preferences, and uncheck vibrate. Helps a lot.

Have you experienced lag?

Do you experience lag when using the phone. I've experienced lag during basic operations like working with emails in Inbox, app drawer, recent apps, quick menu, scrolling nearly anywhere, etc.
The only lag I've seen thats really bad for me is when swiping to close apps.

I've only seen it on the keyboard when I'm texting...seems to work fine in every other app though.
Only very occasionally with the keyboard.

I wonder if it's the phone or just a Google keyboard issue? Definitely not a big deal, but kinda frustrating
I thought I was the only one seeing small keyboard lag lol otherwise everything else is OK.
I am using SwiftKey and the emoji's lag. In the phone app when scrolling through the history - terrible stutter...I mean really bad! Other than those two..which are not that important...the phone is great!
The contacts list in Hangouts is pretty laggy for me but that's the app, not the phone. I'm very happy with my purchase.
No Lag but I have had several crashes/restarts. I'm trying to figure out if I have an app causing me the problem. I'm using Nova Launcher and may try to use the Stock one for a bit to see if that is the cause.
I'm using nova. No issues like that. I've noticed a change since I did a factory reset. You may try that.
Since we are talking about lag and speed in this thread I figured I'd post this comparison between the Pure and the S6. I recommend you take a look, I was surprised at the results. His second time through the test is pretty telling.

What lag.
I get minimal stuttering whole scrolling through screens here and there but really nothing major

Coming from a G4 (lag central), I can't tell any lag. I did have one issue where I apparently had too many running apps/processes at once and the phone froze for a few seconds. I cleared all of my running apps, freeing RAM, and haven't had the issue since.

I've been experiencing stuttering around the device, it's not a big deal however. I think the 808 is struggling with the 1440p display.

This is what I'm seeing. Although my wife's phone seems pretty smooth.......
Since the Google App updated with the vertical scrolling feature, I am not getting much lag anymore.
I Have had the phone since the 16th and have had maybe one or two times when the multitasking screen lags just a little when 1st opened. That's all I have seen in my week of owning the Moto X.

Keyboard lag

I've tried a couple different keyboards (swiftkey, google keyboard, fleksy) and I get lag when typing quickly with all of them. I'm coming from a M8 running a custom GPE rom which exhibited none of this. I know that keyboard lag can be a thing, but I assumed a nearly stock device with a snapdragon 808 would be able to operate without struggling to type. Any ideas on how to get rid of this? I am rooted in case there is some sort of tweak that requires that.

I've had this intermittently. Maybe has to do with all the memory shenanigans on lollipop. Most of the time it's fine. But occasionally, it bogs right down.

I just installed a min/free app. I'll play around with it and see if perhaps that helps to minimize it. I'll report back.
Me too tried few keyboards everything runs perfectly on this phone but the keyboard I even tried different SMS apps and nothing.
What I did for now was just turn off vibration when typing so it doesn't feel laggy.. this is why I am waiting for CM 12.1
I will flash it as soon as someone can confirm volte on verizon working

I've installed this app and am running it on aggressive. It's one I've used in the past, and it seems to help the keyboard lag quite a bit. The only downside is it will force apps out of ram more frequently. For me it's a worthwhile trade off, but just be aware.
